MS Word not in list of supported formats to combine into single PDF

Just upgraded to Acrobat X, Windows 7, and Office 10.  Selected Combine Files into PDF, then Add Filesin order to combine Word & Excel files into single PDF, which I've done many times and is my main use for AA.  AA didn't recognize any Word files (either 2003 or 2010), and no Word file formats are listed in "All Supported Formats" drop down list. What's up?

Thanks so much.  I'll check this out.

  • Why is Merge into single pdf using InDesign CS3 and not CS4 ?

I'm new to this so the question may be trivial, but it beats me:
I've created some InDesign files in CS4 and want to combine them into one PDF. So I opened Acrobat 9 Pro and
navigated to "Merge files into single pdf". I chose the CS4 InDesign files to Add and clicked the Combine Files button.
BUT, this starts up InDesign CS3 and not InDesign CS4 and returns a pop-up saying "unidentified error".
Why is starting CS3 InDesign and not CS4, and what is the "unidentified" error ! ?
As background I intially installed CS3 and then updated to CS4, leaving the CS3 applications intact. When I initially
bought CS3, just before CS4 was released I may have created pdfs from InDesign as an experiment, but it is possible I have not done this
    since upgrading to CS4.
    Thanks for any help

Thanks Michael, I was not aware of quality issues. Actually this is not really significant for my usage this time. What I'm doing is just using ID to capture notes/images/links etc in several free format ID documents. I then planned to merge them quickly into one pdf using Acrobat. I can easily shuffle the file order around to create a handy portable pdf reference document with the Merge feature.
Doing something similar from ID seemed to me to require me to create pdfs for each ID doc and them to merge them in Acrobat. I did start to write a simple script to do this in ID, but I then realised that I wanted the ordering to vary and the ID files would likely to change. Then I found the merge and bingo, that solved it..... Well it solved it on another CS4 installation that had never seen CS3, but not on my machine which had been upgraded from CS3.
I tried looking in the registry for obvious entries that might point Acrobat to use ID CS3 rather than CS4, but couldn't spot anything. I wonder if there is something buried in there ?
    Thanks again for helping

I have nine, 1-page PDF files that are accessible and need to combine into 1 PDF file.  I have tried appending, adding and the combine PDFs process. The file created is not keeping my changes. The created file is partially accessible but I have to re-fix issues I had fixed in the single files. I need suggestions on what else can be done if any. Using Acrobat pro XI.

Out of habit, I tend to combine PDF files in the Page Thumbnails pane by right-click then "Insert Pages" -> "From File". For me, this preserves the tags from both documents, although the tags may have to be moved into the right location (if I recall correctly the tags for the inserted pages get put at the end of the tag structure, regardless of where the pages are inserted), If I first put the tags for the document to be inserted inside a container tag like Section, it makes the process easier. Moving that set of tags to the right place is the only re-fixing that I recall having to do. What behavior are you experiencing?

  • Tab Key in Word not indenting lists!?

So, all of a sudden when I create a list in Word the Tab key and the Shift + Tab key combo no longer indent/dedent items in a list.
    I've tried:
    - Both of the "Full Keyboard Access" modes in Keyboard and Mouse. Not like this should effect what goes on in Word, but gave it a shot.
    - Resetting the PRAM (doing command + option + p + r)
Note This works normally in other accounts on the system. Only on my account is the tab key behaving this way.
    Anything else I should attempt?

you cannot do that in ABAP...
you have to set your fields on screen according to the sequence

  • [nForce] K7N2GM-V not even listed on support site?

Anybody have any idea how long it takes to get a new mobo (K7N2GM-V, in this case) on the support site?  I have been waiting for weeks for even the option to look for updated BIOS, FAQs and such, but it isn't even an option in the drop-down lists.  I normally wouldn't be impatient or anything, but this board is months old now, and the Live Monitor utlility is just too irritating to me.  I'd like to see updates myself without having all the hassle.
I don't know if anyone here can nudge anyone at MSI to get the ball rolling, but it sure would help neurotics like me if the board was even listed (even if it just said it was too new to have updates yet).

Yes, I bought it new from ZipZoomFly.com.  It is jumperless.  I have done everything I can to make it work, followed the manual to the letter, and this is not by far my first build (just my first MSI board and the first system build ever that didn't work).  ZipZoomFly's tech says it doesn't support 200MHz-FSB processors, even though their listing on their site where I bought it says it does (and MSI still swears it does).  I have asked him to get the listing changed at ZZF so more people don't run into this too, and hopefully, he will get it changed.  Newegg has already changed theirs, as have all but one e-tailer I can find.  It just does not support 200MHz-FSB (which is technically 100MHz frequency in BIOS as stated above).  I have contacted MSI dozens of times already, and they swear it does support 200MHz-FSB processors (just like my old 1.4GHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird).  I have tried two boards now (bought another one from Newegg.com before I RMA'ed this one to ZZF, so my wife would have a working computer) - neither works with the Thunderbird.  The TBird works fine in the older Chaintech board.  It has to be the onboard graphics like previous posters said, which means it DOES NOT FULLY SUPPORT 200MHz-CPUs!  MSI refuses to admit this.
They skirt around the issue with stuff like "200MHz-FSB is supported" and such when I say, "is my 1.4GHz AMD Athlon Thunderbird with 200-MHz FSB supported?"  They never give me a straight answer and I now see why they haven't listed a processor support test list for it yet - they don't want to, as it might keep them from selling a few boards.  Marketing wins, and tech support plays (or maybe isn't playing) dumb.
These two will be my only two MSI boards ever.   Back to ASUS, I guess.  At least I can trust them to list accurate specs on the website and not be sneaky in email phrasing to get around issues.

  • Why isn't my word doc saving in the same format when saved to a pdf?

When I save my word doc to a pdf, the text boxes are getting all jumbled.  I tried changed the font, but that did not help the text box issue.

Nobody can tell you anything without proper system info or other technical details like exact PDF settings, version of your Office program and so on. And naturally screenshots tell a lot more than even the most verbose description of a pink butterfly on a rosy peach...

  • Why is Microsoft Publisher not a supported format for creating pdfs?

I am a newsletter editor and I have been creating pdfs from Publisher for years. However, today when I went to my Adobe Acrobat X to create a pdf from a MS Publisher file, I discovered that MS Publisher is not on the Files of type list of supported formats. Luckily, there is a toolbar tab in MS Publisher to convert the file to an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file. Why can I get there from MS Publisher and not from Adobe Acrobat X?
Also, I like to use different fonts in my newsletter, but the conversion process baulks. Is there a list of no-no fonts for conversion?

The requisite programming / coding to assure PDFMaker can function with the MS Office applications is non-trivial.
Only MS Word has the "full boat". Historically it was MS that asked Adobe to come up with what is now called "PDFMaker".
Specifically the request was for MS Word. An overwhelming number of MS clients (enterprise in particular) wanted an easier way to create not only PDF but better, interactive PDF.
The "success" was announced in a major MS hosted "conclave" back in the day.
(a good history research project for those who are skeptical)
Some "outlying" MS applications have never been PDFMaker friendly. MS Publisher and MS Access are two of the more notables.
As Adobe provides a page layout program of its own (InDesign - and, yes Publisher too is a "page layout" application) I've always found it odd that Adobe's Acrobat team expended resources on MS Publisher.
I've had MS Publisher with every version of Office I've had. While I do not use it "professionally" (FrameMaker please) I use it enough to know it does not support PDFMaker functionality very well.
As PDF is an ISO Standard and Microsoft (as well as Adobe) are active participants on the U.S. Committee for PDF-Reference (ISO 32000) the question is better posed to Microsoft's MS Publisher management.
The questions you need to ask of the MS Publisher development team are:
"Why are you not providing acceptable support for output of well-formed, ISO 32000 compliant PDF (which by the way would include PDF/UA-1 compliance ablity)?
The MS Word team is doing it.
Adobe's InDesign team is doing it.
So, what is the problem with the MS Publisher team?
In short the issue rests with the business decisions made by the MS Publisher team's management.
Again, PDF is an ISO STANDARD not something held captive by Adobe.
    Be well...

  • Supported formats

I am trying to edit phots from Aperture in Photoshop.  When the photo is back in Aperture as a psd file it does not apprear.  Message of unsupported format appears.  Does anyone have a list of supported formats? psd, tif, pdf all seem to be unsupported.  jpeg is not an option in the save as menu in PS

You set the format in Aperture prefs on the Export tab.  PSD should work.  Same with TIFF.
Use the "Edit with PS ... " command.
When done in PS, simply close and save the file.
It should then show in Aperture.
You do not "Save As" in PS.
Have you ever been able to us PS as the External Editor specified in Aperture?

  • Having trouble merging powerpoint or word files in single PDF in acrobat X professional on mac book pro

    Hi
I am having trouble merging word and poerpoint files into single PDF by acrobat X professional on a mac book pro. Error says its not supported format. Why is that? It works perfectly on windows. Is the feature of merging office files not enabled in Mac version of software?

    Hi Adam,
Welcome to the forums. They've really helped my Mac learning-curve since first getting a Mac in late April.
It sounds to me from reading the different ways you want to use your computer that you would be very well suited for the Macbook. I have the Macbook Pro but I got it about 3 weeks before the Macbooks came out. And I was quite upset. I use my computer mainly for word editing, watching DVDs and picture management. I will have to admit the 15.4" screen is great for side-by-side document editing, but aside from that, I would think that for my needs the Macbook would have been perfect.
For the money I spent on the low end Macbook Pro I could have gotten the fastest Macbook with 2GB RAM. Instead I have the slowest MBP with only 512MB of RAM which was painfully slow when multitasking. I upgraded to 1GB and it was a huge difference.
But really... I never use the video card. And since I love the portability of the Macbook Pro, another 2 inches off the body would be AMAZING since the 15" is a little big...
    That's my 2 cents.

  • CANNOT DISPLAY A WORD/EXCEL DOC IN BLOB FIELD INTO A PDF REPORT

We created a report that should display several kinds of documents at one time.
These documents are stored in BLOB columns in database. We had no problem to
display txt, gif or jpeg, but we could not display doc, xls, pdf or html
    documents.
In this report we set three different fields in which display different kinds
of documents depending on mimetype. The first field has FileFormat property set
to 'Text' in order to display 'text/plain' and 'text/html' mimetype documents.
The second field has it set to 'Image', which allow to display 'image/bmp',
'image/gif', 'image/x-png', 'image/pjpeg' mimetypes. The third field has this
property set to 'OLE2', and here is where we would like to display other
    mimetype documents as 'application/msword', 'application/vnd.ms-excel',
    'application/pdf'.
We run the report on the web using:
    http://<server>:<port>/dev60cgi/rwcgi60
    ?server=<report_server>
    &report=<rdf_name>
    &destype=localfile
    &desname=<report_name.pdf>
    &userid=<user>/<password>@orcl9i
    &desformat=pdf

I have already read a lot of notes in Metalink but I could not find any
solution. Is there any way to display a Word/Excel document from database in a
    report?
We tried to convert Word/Excel docs to html format, but when we tried to
display an HTML document in the report, we found that Oracle Reports displays
the source code instead of the HTML format document. So, this did not work.
    What can we do?
We also read somewhere that a possible solution would be to convert Word/Excel
documents to a common format like GIF, JEPD or PDF. If processed as gif or jped
the file could be displayed in the report. If processed as pdf the document
could be linked in the report.
I tried to display a PDF in the report but a blank box is displayed. How can I
    do this too?
    Any solutions?

    Hi,
I have the same problem. I need to show up a BLOB, word file(.doc), in a custom report. I made a simple query, extracting file_date( the column having the blog (.doc) file) from the database, in the report and placed it on a layout by assigning it to a field "F_1". I addressed the file format as OLE2.
But when I run the Report in APPS, it shows up an error "REP-1814: Report cannot be formatted. Object 'horizontally and vertically' can never fit within 'F_1'.". I also played with the layout by changing its size but the response had no change.
I am using Reports6i and the output format of the report is PDF. Is there a way to resolve the issue? Please share the solution if you have any for this.

  • Save as PDF' splits MS-Word Sections into separate PDFs

This is more of an FYI than a question,
Original topic: http://discussions.info.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=8068226 it has already been archived and I can't reply to it.
Problem description: when printing a single work document to PDF two PDF files are generated and the original content is divided between the two PDFs. This only appears to affect MS word as preview and text edit print fine.
Possible fix: For the file in question, MS word 2008 had a hidden section break after a return character in the middle of the document. it didn't show up even after show non-printable characters was enabled. Pressing return a few times after the last return character flushed out the offending section break, deleting it fixed the issue.
The file was originally composed on a PC running Office 2003.
    Hope this helps!

    Hi Nigel,
I just created a new document in Word 2004. I typed in one line of text then inserted a page-break section, and typed text on the second page.
When I print, and save to PDF, it generates one PDF document with 2 pages in it.
I have routinely saved-to-PDF larger 20 or 30 page Word documents with multiple sections, and they have saved to single PDF files.
Have you installed something different or extra to allow PDF generation?
I am currently using Leopard, but this also worked the same in Tiger and probably earlier.
As a work-around, open one of the PDF files in Preview, open the side tray (if it's not already) and drag the other files into their prospective locations in the tray. Then save the PDF and they'll all be in one file.

  • Convert Multiple Outlook Emails to Multiple PDF Files (Not Portfolio or Single PDF) for Archiving?

Hi all, I am learning how to convert emails to PDF files and there is some great functionality there!!  I have not discovered how to convert multiple outlook emails into multiple PDF files (one PDF file for each email) - all at the same time (not one at a time)!!  Is there a way to do this using Acrobat X??  The purpose of this is for long-term business archiving.  When I search for an email in the archive, I do not want to pull up a portfolio containing 1000 emails or a 1000 page PDF file with multiple emails run together!!!  I want to pull up individual emails containing my search terms.  I have been searching for a way to archive emails and MS OUTLOOK .PST files are NOT the answer.  I get a lot of business emails with large attachments and I do not file my emails in separate sub-folders (by client or job).  I want to convert multiple emails (by date range) from my UNIVERSAL INBOX into multiple PDF files for long term storage (with each email being converted into its own, separate PDF file and named with the same name as the "Re: line" of the email).  This has been a HUGE problem for me....and Acrobat is sooooo close to the solution for me.  Can anyone help??  If so, will attachments be converted?  If not, is there a separate software program or add-in that I can buy that will do this??  I use MS Office 2010, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Windows 7 64 BIT.  Thanks for your help!!

I am a retired person and did'nt realize I already have a Adobe account, so you can scrap the entire information. Thanks for the trial anyway and have a great week.

  • MS Word not listed in Acrobat 9 supported file type (Windows 7 64 + Office 2007)

    Installation details:
    Windows 7 64bit O/S
    MS Office 2007
    Acrobat 9 Professional
When attempting to create a PDF from multiple files or combine multiple files into one PDF (single or package/portfollio) Microsoft Word is not listed in the supported file type drop down menu. This means when I navigate to a folder containing *.doc files I cannot see them. I tried adding *.doc files via drag and drop but Acrobat listed red exclamation marks stating it could not convert that file type. MS Excel, Powerpoint and Publisher appear in the supported file type list.
I believe this may be a Windows 7 compatibility issue as the same problem occured when using Acrobat 8 Standard prior to installing Acrobat 9 Professional. MS Word files are supported when both Acrobat 8 & 9 are installed on a Windows XP system.
I can create a PDF of individual MS Word documents using the acrobat tab inside MS Word itself.
I have thousands of Word files I need to combine into PDF portfollios (packages in Acrobat 8 I believe).
My great appreciation if you can provide any help.

Well, thumbnails in Explorer don't work either, but we're not concerned about it.  The preview pane is what we're worried about.  There is a button in the top-right that turns the pane on.  Previewing in Outlook does not work either.
