Review Conclusion
Quotes: "The GS70 we test today has been introduced to the market for a while, that is why its a bit heavy for this machine to run the latest games. Even though the screen fluency is not perfect, it turns out to be quite enjoyable to play on this thin and 17" screen laptop, only the temperature is a bit high. The battery life is not great, but for a laptop as thin as GS70, we don't expect more. Moreover, this model is a bit old and you know how time will affect this factor."

  • White Screen on MSI GS70

I work on my MSI GS70 from what I think the first generation for now 14 month and all of a sudden I got a total White screen when I boot. Because I know how to get in my user session by heart, I can get to my desktop then plug a HDMI and see that my laptop's still working. But the LCD remains totally white. I can still adjust the luminosity with the Fn+arrow up and down. Anyway there's nothing.
Yesterday in the evening, my laptop worked flawlessly, this morning, I putted it in my camera backpack where I have a perfectly fit 17inch laptop padded slot then took it out few hours later to transfer videos I just shot and only got a white screen. The backpack was never dropped hard or anything. I think I'm two month off the warranty, I mean, damn, paying $2000 for a laptop that doesn't last even a year and a half... it's so disappointing. Any ideas what's the best thing to do?
    Thank you

If  your laptop still work as you plugged a HDMI ,you can rule out the possibility of VGA problem. The cause of white screen might be  defective contact of your LCD cable( http://i01.i.aliimg.com/wsphoto/v0/32236377643/Laptop-LVDS-Screen-Cable-For-font-b-MSI-b-font-font-b-GS70-b-font-font.jpg ). ←what it seems like.
You can make sure that whether the original LCD cable is well-connected with the LCD or not first. If the problem still exists after reconnecting the LCD cable, you can probably  try to exchange a new LCD cable .

  • Can't change BIOS version in MSI GS70

Hello Folks! I'm completely new in the Forum. This will be my very first post so apologies for any mistakes I can make
Two weeks ago I bought a MSI GS70 2OD-052XPL  (1TB 7200 hdd version) laptop. Before I've become a happy owner of my MSI I did some additional purchase (2x mSata 120Gb). I was planning to set my mSata ssd as  SuperRAID array and make a clean Windows 8 installation. However It turned out that to do so I have to have the UEFI RAID0 SKU BIOS version (I have nonRAID version) on board. I downloaded proper BIOS version and I've tried to change my BIOS to the right one (w8_E1771IMS.70E). No success so far . I contacted my polish MSI techsupport and they said the there should be no problem with the installation. I tried different methods of BIOS flashing but there i ROMID error at the end. I'll be more than happy to have your support guys.
    Thanks,
    Tomasz

'SuperRaid' is sort of a marketing name that MSI uses for being able to put multiple mSATA SSD's into a notebook. ALL notebooks use the Intel RAID ROM/controller built into the NB in order to make the actual Raid array.
As Svet explained, every GS70 does come with 'SuperRaid' support. The GT70 (like I have), it was an option to get a SuperRaid.
The speed of the raid is dependent on the controller on the SSD and the how the SSD is configured (by the manufacturer.....how the FLASH is arranged, etc...).
On top of that, in Raid 0, you should see performance that is roughly 2x that of a single drive.
    http://www.legitreviews.com/kingston-ms200-120gb-msata-ssd-review_125006/3
Looking at that review, you can see that their single drive is similar to the performance of a single drive that you have (should be, it's the same model....). And your Raid 0 performance is very close to being 2x that of a single drive.
Overall, everything looks to be in working order.
Thank you guys for the complex explanation. Now I know a lot more about drives and how it works!
    Special thanks for Svet!

  • KLM stopped working, new MSI GS70

Just purchased the MSI GS70 2OD-409UK
Within 2 days of purchase my software KLM has stopped working, for example i can click to open the programme from it's icon and it shows up in the taskbar, but the programme never shows up,
Any ideas? it's meerly cosmetical im aware, but i'd just rather not have my keyboard constantly with a red backlight and have more flexability with my options as i did on it, thanks.

Check in Services if Micro Star SCM is there and is running. If not found, a reinstall is necessary. If stopped, launch it.

  • New MSI GS70 2QE-066US STEALTH PRO BSOD

I am getting random bsod page fault in nonpaged area on my brand new MSI GS70 2QE-066US STEALTH PRO.  It seems to happen once a day. I am not sure what is going on really i updated the killer network drivers from their website as there was newer ones out than what were on this notebook. I only did that a hour ago so i don't know if it fixed anything or not. I herd the killer driver can cause bsod so i thought i would try.  Other forums lead me to believe it is a ram issue.  I have only install some steam games wow and things like chrome on this notebook so far. I am trying to figure out if it is a hardware or software issue as i just got the notebook and would like to not have to send it in so i can use it.
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • The 10 best laptops: MSI GS70 is the only winner in gaming laptops

Check out "The 10 Best laptops from PCmag.com" and MSI GS70 is the only winner in gaming laptops category. Cool~
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2369981,00.asp

Wow, looks like you guys get some nice extras over in Asia.  I bought mine here in the USA, and the only "extra" I got was the laptop sleeve case.
    As for your questions.....
Turbo boost from Intel is sorta set to automatic.  It will boost based on the program you are running on the system.  As for Cooler Boost 2.0....I don't remember seeing that on my GS70.
Killer Wireless is always on.  On average, I get downloads of 4.6-5 MB a second on Steam.  So you don't need to do anything special to get it working.
    As for your HDD selection....
I have the 256 GB SSD/16 GB RAM edition, so I keep my SSD clean except for system related programs.  The only programs I have installed on the SSD are things like Office 2013 Professional Plus, and smaller programs like the Starcraft Anthology USB.  You'll want to install everything on your Data drive, since this was made to store all of your games, music, videos, etc.

  • MSI GS70 Stealth Pro 2PE - Burning issue!

Dear MSI forum users, I am here to ask your opinion on my experience with this laptop, for the most part it is a good machine, but I have experienced a few issues...
First off I noticed that the Space bar only worked on the left side of the bar or the middle, pressing from the right never worked and you had to push down hard to get the left side to respond, I thought maybe it's just a defective key, but upon googling I saw that other users were reporting this, I also noticed the trackpad is abysmal and trying to use it for left and right click is useless, luckily you can disable it and use the mouse supplied with the laptop.
Anyway, when I noticed the space bar issue I thought it such an issue that I should RMA the laptop, to see if the bar could be fixed, however the exchange I had with the technical support guy at OCUK (where I bought the laptop from and have been a loyal customer for years) simply said the following "no one else has contact us about a faulty spacebar. It may just be that is how they are designed and a replacement will not fix the issue. Laptop keyboards are not generally the best as they have to be compact and slim to not avoid conflict with other components."
well that to me didn't seem right, having spend £1450 on a laptop you expect the components to be in working order, I had previously purchased 3 x MSI GX740 from them and all of them still work currently, none of them ever having space bar or track pad issues, nevertheless I had to continue with this laptop since they would not repair it.
The laptop has been running OK over the past year, but I have noticed two more very strange occurrences in the operation of it now.
First off, there's a video of the sound it is making, its like there's a fan in there trying to spin up, but falling back down at the last hurdle. THIS HAPPENS CONSTANTLY, from boot to shut down, it doesn't ever stop doing it.
Please search for my channel Daniel Sharpe on you tube as the forum won't let me post external links :S the video is titled MSI GS70 2PE Fan Failure?
now heres something that really concerns me, for my health mainly, the laptop is running so hot it is leaving burn marks on my legs through trousers, I have got a cooling pad now, but even still I NEVER had any issues with heat dissipation on the MSI GX740 models, no cooler needed it sits on my lap fine and does not burn me, but this one does?!
here are some pictures, the left leg is worse, it fades slightly overnight but yesterday it was purple, I spoke to a doctor who said he has never seen anything like it in his life, it looked like chilblains to him but obviously with the opposite cause, his advice was that prolonged use could cause long term damage, but even if I use it for an hour it burns me.
however, here are speed fan temps for idle (with a cooling pad now in place)
and here are  speed fan temps for load
and to top it all off the space bar has now come unclipped from the board and won't go back on properly.
So there we have it, there's a few issues with the laptop, I am mainly worried about the heat and the strange sound coming from one of the fans? (I Think)
please let me know what you think I can do, whether MSI would carry out repairs or something, as a laptop, this clearly isn't fit for purpose, as it can't sit on your lap without burning it!

    Quote from: RX-8 on 09-June-15, 16:11:39
GS series are slim & light models, so their temperature must be high and gathered on the surfaces of the bodies. If you're running demanding apps/games, it's uncomfortable and not recommended to put it on the top of your lap (although it's called a laptop). Some laptops won't have this problem that's just because they are not performance/gaming laptops at all or for office use. Some of the laptops are thick and the temperature was decreased and dissipated by the air flow when the heat propagated to the surface.
The screenshots of the temperature you provided are normal for GS70 2PE. The CPU/GPU temperature did go to such a high temperature (actually their top temperatures are between 100 to 105 before throttling themselves). The surface of the bottm of the laptop may be just several millimeters below the CPU/GPU and thermal pipes, so it's definitely very hot when running CPU/GPU intensive apps/games. If putting on your lap for a long time, it definitely causes the low-temperature burn, like the hazard when attaching some warm bags on your skins for a long time.
Regarding the fan noise & touch problem, I would suggest you insist to ask the service point to inspect, repair or maybe replace them. Fan noise may be due to the quality of the fan after a long period of working, but for keyboard they should have other keyboard parts on which the space problem won't exist. I think this is just a flawed keyboard.
I have a Apple Mac Air in my home and it's very cool, but it can't even run SimCity very well. For GS70 2PE, it's just a piece of cake.
I understand what you are saying in regards to the games and temperature, but it looks more like a design issue to me, the MSI GX740 that I have had for 5 years never burned me and did run most of the latest games at decent settings.
I have dealt with this issue by buying a cooling pad, so I'm satisfied on that front.
I did send a support request to MSI about this computer for the fan, touch pad and keyboard issues, but have received no reply as of yet, is this something I should resend? as I have never contacted them directly for repairs before I am not sure of the process!

  • MSI GS70 2PE - Stealth Pro | Audio Drivers / Microphone Issue

So i bought the gs70 stealth pro a few days ago and when i went on skype for gaming, i noticed my headset #1 mic was not working properly. The audio picked up on the mic is extremely low even when i tampered with the microphone boost.
Headset #1: Steelseries Siberia V2 Edition
Headset #2: Steelseries Siberia v2 Edition (neckband)
First i restarted my pc but that didnt do a thing.
I thought my headset broke so I used headset #1 on a different laptop (SONY VAIO), which is four years old.
headset #1's mic was working fine on my old laptop.
Then I tried using headset #2 on msi gs70 and it was working. a few hours later, i started playing csgo with my friends. they said they could barely hear me so i talked louder however that didnt do anything. it seems as though headset #2 was undergoing the same problem as headset #1.
I went onto the Realtek website to download the latest driver. I installed it, restarted pc and it didnt work.
I thought maybe it was not the correct audio driver so i went onto MSI's driver page, inputted all the information for my laptop and downloaded the correct drivers. After the installation, it still didnt work.
So then i deleted the realtek audio driver and tried both headsets.
Headset #1's mic was not working properly however headset #2's mic is fine.
I have no idea what the problem is other than the microphone input jack being messed up.
I am no expert when it comes to computer hardware. Please help.

Yes, the FAQ is for Apache not the stealth, just wonder if you experience the same problem. Anyway, try to unchecked the exclusive mode under advanced tab of microphone properties and chat with your friend in game again. Hop this could help you out. I google for a while and one guy fixed it up by unchecked the exclusive mode. Do not know if this applies to you since I unchecked it and chatted with my friend by skype, he barely heard me. But it would be ok if I ticked off exclusive mode. Strange.

  • MSI GS70 Keyboard Lighting

    Hello,
I'm wondering if anybody else out there has this problem with the certain keys in the keyboard not lighting up with MSI GS70. I JUST got this notebook and like it very much, however besides the fan being kinda loud (which I don't really care too much about), keys like F1, F7, F8, F9 , TAB, CAPS LOCK, SHIFT and others are not lit up at the bottom side of the key while everything else is. I'm starting to think this is a problem. Should I get it fixed? Replaced?
    Thanks.

  • Installing win7 on a msi gs70 stealth 2pc

For those who are having problems like i had for installing win 7 on msi gs70 stealth 2pc 860m (the no cd driver found thing) here is what i found out and i hope will be usefull for someone.

I did three tests, one at rest, the other one after a freeze, and the last one before a freeze.
    At rest :
    Before a freeze :
    After a freeze :
When the freeze happens, we can see that the last bar (Highest reported hard pagefault resolution time) goes from 55621 to 2361273... I guess we might have found something!

  • Questions On MSI GS70

    Hi Everyone,
I have few questions regarding this laptop model MSI GS70.
1)How many editions of MSI GS70 out there? At first I thaught there were 2...but now i feel like more than dat >
2)I was planning to buy the one without SSD but heard this model, the max RAM is 8GB only?
3)Will SSD bring a much different?
4)Will RAM bring a much different too?
I'm getting the one without SSD due to limited budget but can someone clarify this that the model max upgradeable RAM is 8GB only.
If the motherboard could only support max 8GB...it could be juz a normal motherboard instead of high performance/gaming motherboard..;-(
    Tq ;-)

If you can, save up your money and get the SSD version with the 16 GB of RAM upgrade.  You will be hurting yourself in the long run, since the GS70 is NOT designed to be upgradeable.  Attempting to pry open the GS70 will also void the warranty.

  • MSI GS70 Locking the F3 Features

Laptop: MSI GS70 Stealth Windows 8.1
I can't remember what its called when you press F3 when you boot up the laptop.
So I am going off to college and would like to be able to password everything, so far I have my normal login and the BIOS locked, but as far as I can tell someone could potentially wipe my hard drive by just pressing F3 when booting up.
Is there any way to place a password on that so no one can access it?

Apart from setting passwords did you actually made it to ask in any boot? A bit strange for me as this shouldn't happen. In my case after setting up password, no matter what you wanted to do, it would always ask before letting anyone in (made my step father drive mad as he couldn't check what I do on my NB  )
Speak to MSI about this, and if they don't help you with this with simple solution, make a request for custom BIOS in NB section and tell what you need to be disabled or locked. Just make sure you will be able to use the recovery IF needed.

  • K7N420 pro MSI 6952 TV-Out Riser Card troubles

just wondering if anyone has gotten the MSI 6952 TV-Out Riser Card to go with their K7N420 pro motherboard and if so how do you get it to work as ive tried for months on end and i still have many failed attempts at getting it to function

It is your drivers. You need to get the 29.XX series of detonator drivers and use those to get tv-out to function.
I had a K7N420 and a tv-out card... long dead, exploded caps. I recall that the last version of the detonators that worked for sure was the 29.20s. I experience the same difficulty with my geforce3 Ti500 and the new drivers... no tv-out signal as the drivers cannot seem to detect the presence of a tv on the other end of the svideo cable.
Try it out and see if it works
