MSI GT70 Loud fan after clean reboot

Hey,
Got a rookie question.
I've done a clean reboot of windows 8.1 and I've noticed my fan is louder than it used to be idle.
It's almost running at the same speed it would be if I'm gaming.
Sorry if the answer is blatantly obvious I'm still coming to terms with the way things works.
Thanks in advance!

Did you install any applications recently?
They may have some background processes which will gradually consume your CPU/GPU resource and make the fans louder.
Or, maybe it's time to clean the fan.

Hello, I have a problem with my GT70 CPU Fan.
It keeps running at full speed since I use the Internal GPU because my graphic card is dead and removed.
I have found few similars topics that always ended up by unblocked bios request so I tried to update with the latest versions available on the website but it didnt solve the problem.
    My current settings are

  • Very loud fan after suspend mode

    Hi,
i installed the current arch version on my sony vaio laptop.
when i close my laptop the machine goes into suspend mode. when i open the laptop, after 3 seconds or so the fan starts. Very very loud.
I had the same issue under ubuntu. after some googling i found some forum entries about a bug within the kernel.
the output of sensors shows me that everything has no critical temperature.
Has anyone same experience with noisy fan after suspend mode?
    Thanks
    Marko

It will or can happen but you can reduce it somewhat maybe using SmcFanControl (2.1.3.1 - wwww.macupdate.com ) to keep the fans above default by 200 rpm. And run Hardware Monitor to monitor temps as well. They may be running much warmer than they could/should/ought to.
1GB and your system was on starvation express! ouch. 4GB is more of a normal minimum even. 4 x 1GB is nice balanced setup. 2GB DIMMs might be warmer, run 70C perhaps. And they use about 15W each.

  • Loud fan after logic board replaced

I just had the logic board replaced on my 17" iMac after it would not power up (apple did it for free because they said it was one of the defective boards). The fan now is VERY loud. I have tried reseting the SMU, setting the CPU speed to something other than automatic. Nothing seems to work. Top say the machine is idle 95% of the time... Before the board was replaced it was VERY quiet... Any ideas?

Greetings and welcome to the Apple boards.
Miriam is right. Take it back and have it repaired correctly. We have good consumer laws in MA so they have three chances to get it repaired correctly or they owe you a refund or a new machine.

  • Loud fan after cover removed

    G5 dual 2G PowerPC
    Purchased late 2003.
I removed the air deflector while the machine was running (yeah, I know: don't do that.)
Now the fans are running full blast, and there is a red light glowing behind the grill.
I tried the procedure outlined here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300351
a.k.a: Power Mac G5 (Late 2004): Fans remain loud after air deflector door is replaced
This procedure not seem to help - I tried it 3 times.
    Should I reset the PMU?
Is there any risk / downside to resetting the PMU?
    Thanks fo - rummers!
    Matt

Hi, and a Warm Welcome to the Power Mac G5 Forum!
A PMU/SMU reset (photo at the bottom of the page here - Note static precautions) may fix it
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300341
    and shouldn't cause problems.
If, after the reset you still have the roaring fan and red LED, there is some discussion of the 'Air Deflector Door' sensor here, and in the links

Please post again if you have any questions. Good Luck.

  • MSI GT70 Dragon Edition 2 Cleaning

Hey everyone new to the forum here.
I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong spot. I looked for some tips on cleaning the dragon edition 2 but could not find much on the forum.  I have had the laptop about 4 months and figure the fan could use a good cleaning. However I am worried I will void the warranty if I take the backing off of the laptop in order to gain access to the fan.
Also if anyone can help me get rid of the windows 8.1 update reminders that would be much appreciated. I am running smoothly on windows 8 right now and do not care to update to 8.1 at this time but the reminders continue to pop up. I keep clicking remind me later but eventually in my experience the remind me later option is not available and forces me to choose update in 1, 2, or 4 hours. Last time I was forced to 8.1 it was such a headache I chose to do a factory reset to get me back to 8.

    This might be helpful...

  • HP Envy 17 3D Loud Fan after Bios Update to Ver 06 Resolved

I recently updated the Bios (06) in an effort to solve a problem (sp56416.exe).   Shortly thereafter I noticed that the laptop fan would come on high speed for a second or 2 and then immediately ramp down to a slower speed.  This is annoying because of the startle factor and even in slow speed is noisier than earlier.  Today I reloaded the old bios (05)  (sp56028.exe) and the laptop is again quiet!  Suggest caution with this new Bios.   On another topic - has anyone else tried the Bluetooth?   I cannot get my bluetooth mouse to work, although my cell phone has no problems finding the mouse and the laptop. (yes I have checked my settings and tried the laptop and/or mouse in discovery mode.  Laptop just refuses to see any bluetooth device.

    I wish you luck.
I shipped back my Envy 17 the day I got it.
First - it wouldn't power on.  I jiggled the battery and finally got it to work.
Second - one of the fans started squealing.
    Third - the fan died.
Fourth - Even thought I paid for "in home" service, HP said I had to ship it back to them for repair.
Instead, I returned it and bought a Dell.  I've owned 10 Dells and never had that kind of trouble.

  • MSI GT70 2PC-1044US - HDMI / GPU / FAN issues

    MSI GT70 2PC-1044US - HDMI / GPU / FAN issues
I am having trouble with my HDMI port on a brand new MSI GT70 2PC-1044US . Whenever I plug my HDMI cable from my notebook to the TV, after a few minutes (5 - 20 minutes), my fan will start reving at around 5k RPMs and sounds like a jet engine. When this happens, according to MSI Dragon Gaming Center tool/monitor, the GPU temp reading hits 255 degrees Celsius, which is clearly a glitch. I used another monitor, msi afterburner, and when this HDMI problem happens, this tool reads a normal 40 degrees Celsius.
Here are the things I have tried so far but the problem keeps reoccurring:
    1. Called MSI tech support, sent me the link to the newest BIOS and updated it
    2. Called MSI tech support again, claimed the HDMI is controlled by the intel graphic controller, and they recommended that i update intel drivers (every software tool on my notebook says it's the NVIDIA GPU that controls the HDMI port /shrug???), so i did this as well.
    3. Called MSI teck support again, they suggested I send the notebook back to MSI so they could take a look at the hardware. I did not do this because I did not trust the tech guy and did not want to wait a few weeks to get my notebook back
    4. Luckily, the store I bought my notebook at was nice enough to replace my notebook for a new one. I got home, tested it, and the same thing happened. So I think we eliminated faulty hardware.
So now what? What else can I try?

have you done EC reset? https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/how-to-reset-the-ec-embedded-controller
can you try to plug the HDMI into your dell screen[insteal of sharp TV] to check if the same issue will hapends?
Install latest Intel GPU drivers from: http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect/graphics
    then retest
-Yes, I did the full EC reset. Once the EC flash was done, I removed the power cord from the back and the battery and let it sit for a few minutes before restarting.
    - My Dell monitor is old, and does not have an HDMI port, but I will try a different cable on a different TV.
-I already have the most recent intel graphic controller drivers, this one of the things the MSI tech support guys asked me to do by phone

  • MSI GT70 audio (headphone) jack makes weird noise after a few seconds

I recently got my laptop its an MSI GT70, i plugged in my headphones to the correct jack, and the laptop detects it and all is fine, but then when i play something with audio, it starts playing normally for a few seconds then the audio goes to a weird sound, kind of like everything turns to like an echo sound, i have tried multiple things, like changing the default format (the bits and HZ), and every time i do change it, it goes ok for a few seconds and then turns back to the echo-ish sound. i don't think something is wrong with the drivers tough.

i know it' been a while, but i resolved the problem finally, it wasn't anything with the drivers or hardware, i few days ago, i wanted my laptop be loud, but i raised the volume and it wasn't really loud as most laptops, so i checked around my laptop then i went to my icons i clicked sow hidden icons to see what was related to my sound i found thx tru studio pro settings in there, i double clicked it, clicked on speakers and realized they were on low that's why my laptop had low sound, so after i resolved it, i went to settings to see what it had to offerm i saw select your speaker setup, it had headphones, external speakers, and built in speakers, i automatically got my headphones and plugged them in, the thx turned from built in speakers to external speakers, then i listened to something and it was still bad, so i changed it to headphones, and it was perfectly fine after than,    , but i still dont know why it turns to external speakers, i think it has something to do with realtekhd, but it's a start, thanks to everyone for the replies

  • Loud fan noise while gaming on GT70 gaming laptop

I've loved my laptop ever since I bought it but there seems to be one problem with the fan possibly.
The fan noise is really audible and it gets annoying when I'm gaming. Games like Fable Anniversary (highest setting) forces the fan to be turned on and make loud noises that even wearing a headset wouldn't help avoid. You know how new MSI laptops have a button for turning on cooler boost 2? It feels like it gets turned on by itself while playing some, if not most games.
I would first like to know if this is normal for a gaming laptop. Its REALLY annoying, I even tried the GT70 Fan control 1.63 but the fan keeps turning on by itself. I understand that the GTX 870m gets heated fast and therefore needs to cool off, but like on almost every game.....Skyrim, Tera (not even that demanding.....and not even on max setting ....) long hours of playing league of legends, The Last Remant..etc. I wanna play without such loud fan noises  I don't mind if its audible but not too loud, I can even hear the fan noise from upstairs if I leave my room door opened. I would really enjoy playing Tera and Archeage without such irritating, loud sound that really distracts me and makes me fear that its abnormal. Hell, even Rift (MMORPG) released in 2011, would turn on turbo fan.... =(. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There isn't much you can do with the tool but better than nothing.
It didn't fix the fan problem =/
I'm not the only one with such problem, https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=256673.0 look at the 2nd video and just listen to how loud the fan noise is. (Yes different models but same crap)
The silent option doesn't fully stop/slowdown the fan,  maybe just momentarily then once you open up the game, the fan goes back to its usual 3k RPM. Is there ANY way to stop this? its been happening ever since I bought it and it really makes me not wanna play simply because of the noise that is audible even through wearing a headset. Let alone not wearing a headset....
Sad it happens even when playing fifa 15. I mean is fifa 15 even THAT demanding? the answer is no, not even close to demanding as its using the same engine as 13, 14 ..etc. Also, I played it on my old lenovo laptop that had WAY lower specs such as gt 650m graphics card and yet the fan was extremely quiet, and I might add it was on highest setting....
I understand that the gpu can get heated fast, but on almost EVERY game? at first I thought the fan will only make such noises when playing highly demanding games such as Skyrim. A game from 4 years ago without any frkin mods. or Fable Anniversary..OR Prison Break: Conspiracy (what the f?) but it turns out that the fan will go turbo mode on literally every game. so in conclusion, every game is suddenly demanding thus the Cooler Booster 2 will automatically turn on.

  • Macbook pro not turning on after SMC reset. I have the following problem. Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011does not sleep when closing the screen. smc due loud fan and an X on battery symbol

Yesterday I noticed that my mbp 2011 dos not sleep when closing the screen cover. Today I Turner my laptop in. However the fan was working loudly and stayed loud. After Start I noticed an X on Battery symbol. Clicking on it, it showed 'no battery.' I found out that a potential solution for this problem was SMC reset. I also noticed that the leds on magsafe was not lightning. Despite this I tried to execute the smc reset as described on apple support site. Switching off, plugin the magsafe connector, pushed the buttons shift + alt+ ctrl + power. Then i pushed the power button, but my mbp is not turning on. I pushed several times on the power button but nothing works. The magsafe is also dark meaning the leds not lightning. Can anyone here help me on this ?

Problem solved by my own. But do not how :) magsafe again working and the laptop tooo

  • Won't boot, loud fan noise after kernel panic?

So I got that kernel panic screen yesterday, turned it off, and now when I try to turn it on, the screen remains black and the fan comes on really loud. After about 30 seconds it stops. I tried inserting the original disc, but it won't go in the whole way. I've been using the laptop pretty heavily lately, but haven't damaged it that I know of. The battery has been dead for a while now - relying completely on the adapter.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I have a similar problem. My son was using the computer at the time so I don't know if he saw the kernel panic. The screen is black and the computer won't boot. The fan runs loudly and doesn't stop. The battery is relatively new, about six months old. I've tried plugging in an external monitor but there's no signal.
I have tried two different power adapters. One has showed orange and quickly went to green, then the light went out. The second adapter is third party but it seems to be getting power to the Mac. To complicate matters further, there is a DVD stuck in the drive. If the Mac is dead, I'd like to at least get the DVD out of the drive!
Thanks in advance for any ideas.

  • MSI GT70 2PC shut down shortly after start

I bought MSI GT70 2PC-1889CZ Dominator. BIOS E1763IMS.51B, the same problem with BIOS E1763IMS.51V. There is one SSD disk there and one HDD.
And problem? When I press the power button, my NB automatically turns off during 2-3 sec (before starting windows 8). But when I press the power button again, it starts without problem. I have the same problem everytime. First try - turn off, second try - no problem. My nb never turns off during playing games, or working in windows, only shortly after I press power button. I tried other battery (the same model), this problem occurs without plugged charger and with plugged charger too...

    Try update IRST driver.

  • Desktop screen flickers after updating my nvidia GTX 680m driver on my MSI GT70!

    Hello, MSI!
Yesterday, I updated my MSI GT70 Dragon Edition's nvidia driver to the one suggested on my laptop'smsi page. Previously, It was running on the latest driver downloaded from nvidia itself (314.22) with no problems whatsoever. But I thought I'd give the msi's official driver a try, to see if it was better. The whole day, the laptop worked fine, even after restart, but after starting it and logging in today, the desktop screen was black and flickering. There was an Flickering error window that can't be read but the title that says ".net framework 4 error"!
Now I've googled the problem, and I might have found the solution, but I need to boot it to safe mode first, and I'm not able to. So if you, please, could tell me how to boot my GT70 to safe mode. Note that I'm not able to reach the "Run" window since the screen is black, and the laptop keeps restarting.
    Awaiting you immediate response.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello, flobelix!
Thanks for your instant reply.. and I'm sorry that I could not immediately reply as I lost the forum URL
    Anyways, I solved the problem!!
I knew that the problem was caused by the driver update, so I decided to connect an external LCD monitor, and the desktop screen showed right away on it. I was curious, so I disconnected that external LCD monitor to see if the laptop's screen went back to normal, and it DID!!! Anyhow, I immediately reconnected the LCD monitor to completely delete the corrupted driver (v314.22) and reinstalled the same driver again...
And by the way, the suggested way of approaching the safe mode when the PC is not normally functioning did not work, whatsoever! I sat for at least two consecutive hours trying it.. in vein!
    Again, thanks a lot.
