MSI P6N SLI-FI 2.5 bios no post E8400

I have just purchased an E8400 from Newegg.com to replace my old Pentium D. I installed it and there was no post. I have a 500watt PS. The E8400 is supposed to use less power than the PD anyway. I installed the 2.5 bios before I tried installing it. I took out the motherboard and ran only the memory, CPU, and video card, and had no luck. I have 2GBs ADATA memory and an MSI 8800GT. I can put my PD right back in and run fine. I have talked to MSI support but, they suck and said they cannot help me.
If anyone has any idea as to how I can solve this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

first thing I'd try is a complete CMOS reset.
Try setting the CMOS Clear jumper on to clear it.
Remove the battery for 10 minutes with the CMOS jumper still on.
Then put the battery back in, move the CMOS clear jumper back and then turn on the system.
If you get a post, Go directly into the BIOS and "Load Optimized Defaults" and then Exit and save.  when it reboots go back into the BIOS and make sure you set the date and time or windows will choke on it and say you had a major change to your system and you need to buy windows again.  set any of your normal settings then save and exit and hopefully you get into windows.
This works for me everytime this happens to me.  it seems when a major update in a BIOS is made, you seem to have to pull the battery as not all settings get reset with the jumper.
Good luck

  • Bios problem on MSI p6n sli-fi

Hi, on december i've the bios beta 2.13 on the msi p6n sli-fi and an e4300.
I changed to an e2140, and started the problems:
If i plug a ps2 mouse, then starts the beeps, here a record of then, i look for beep code, and dont find this combination on beeps:
If i dont use the ps2 mouse, the board start fine and goes ok.
Another problem was that the back USB, dont work, they detect perfect on the Admin Device, but if i plug something nothing happens :(, sometimes take the usb keyboard when boot, so i flashed the bios thinking could be any proccesor bios incompatibily, but after that, windows or while booting, dont detect the usb keyboard, or wharever i plug.
Yesterday, i've a surprise i attach an old USB gamepad, after a while, i taked good the gamepad (propably usb 1.1 gamepad, its a cheapper one). So after this which is the problem? Because of another gamepads, keyboard, usb flash drives and another things i plugged on the back, nothing work except for that old gamepad.
THE front usb works perfectly fine, without problems.
So what could be the problem? I think to go back to bios 2.13 beta bios, but i dont have back up :(
Please some help, i'm lost with this problem

    No video card?
Clear CMOS with main A/C power cable removed from PSU and load "Optimized Defaults" in BIOS after that.  See if that changes anything.
If it doesn't, unplug the USB Front Panel Connector from the board's USB Pin Header. After disconnecting, check your back panel ports again.

No, that won't work as that requires a UEFI bios and GPT format which is both not possible with your old board just supporting classic bios. You won't be able to access the entire drive space which makes a (costly) 3TB HDD quite useless.
Better just get nothing above a 2TB HDD.
    Connection won't change that.

Maximum temperature at the junction point (where the die is glued to the chip carrier inside). Max temp is 100°C for Allendale and 85°C for conroe. The internal sensor coretemp uses does not return a absolute temperature but rather how many C° is left until Tjunction is reached. So to calculate the temperature they use Tjunction - Sensor Reading = Temperature. You can see here how speedfan's wrong assumption of 85°C for allendale creates a 15°C offset.
3x for the info, but what is the thermal specs of E4300, which is 61 sth

    According to this:
    http://global.msi.eu/index.php?func=prodcpu2&prod_no=1141&maincat_no=1&orderby=cpu_name%20ASC#menu
"Yorkfield" 45nm quadcores are not going to work on this board, only "wolfdale" 45nm dualcores and even that depends on revision, like Jack mentioned.
So your Q8200 is a no go unfortunatly.
Only the older 65nm "Conroe" quads will work.
and fastest intel processor (not 45nm quad core) ?

  • Who has this setup - MSI P6N SLI Platinum & E8400

This message is intended for anyone who has the MSI P6N SLI Platinum & E8400 in a working state.
I've had the pleasure of perusing these forums for a while in hopes of finding an answer as to why my E8400 isn't working with my P6N SLI Platinum. I've updated my BIOS, I've RMA'd my chip, I've even contacted MSI support (with no reply I might add). I have been so careful when handling these components and thoroughly reading the instructions, to no avail. I've got the board and all components working with a different processor. I've tried the voltage modifications that many have said work, I've tried different memory, I even tried a different video card. So I'm stuck in the same boat as many it seems, however there are one or two posts on this forum and others where people have said they actually got it to work!
So now I really hope I can get this question answered - What is a working config? One of the things I haven't tried yet is a new power supply. My current PS is 650w, but has the 4 pin CPU power connector. From the posts I've read, it shouldn't matter if I have the 4 or the 8. But in reality, does this CPU work on the P6N Plat with an 8 pin connector? I'd be willing to go buy a new PS if thats the case! What else could possibly be the issue? Any and all feedback is appreciated. i really didn't want to start up another thread for this proc/board issue, but perhaps someone else has joined this board by now that may provide the little piece of info that I've been missing.
    Cheers,
    Aaron

according to the website, the 1.6 BIOS had cpu updates in march so I's assume it would have support for the E8400.
What exactly happens when you turn on the system with the E8400?

    Hello and welcome,
First of all, 1066MHz isnt garantueed to work on that board, I have the same and although is says so on the box, it isnt supported, look here:
    http://eu.msi.com/index.php?func=prodmbspec&maincat_no=1&cat2_no=170&cat3_no=&prod_no=1140#menu
    533/667/800Mhz only.
    To reach 3.6 try following:
Raise NB step by step, until ~1.35V max, SB @stock, FSB VTT to 4 - 8%
Set FSB to 1600 and mem to 800 on auto timings, you can adjust those later.
And leave Vcore on 0.100V as said in your post.
See if you can get it to run then.
