Mssql_next_result alternative for Oracle

When accessing MS SQL stored procedures from PHP, it's possible to have more than one SELECT query and use the mssql_next_result() function to proceed to each result set.
Why don't I see an oci_next_result() function for similar functionality when accessing Oracle stored procedures? Is there a way to have multiple SELECT queries in an Oracle stored procedure and access them from PHP?

You can return results sets from PL/SQL procedures as REF CURSOR parameters. This means you need to pre-determine the number of queries.
It might be better to do a small re-design and break the logic up to handle component queries individually.

  • XMLSpy alternatives for Oracle?

    Hi all,
I know several people here have recommended XMLSpy. I was wondering
    1) Is there a nice open-source alternative that has the two features that I am looking for the most:
    - graphical schema generation/validation
    - generate example xml instance from xml schema
I tried to use JDeveloper, but it does not seem to have either one of these features. I have to admit though that I couldn't find a tutorial so I might have missed something.
    2) Do we need to get the professional edition of XMLSpy to have database connectivity and be able to generate schema-based XML docs with real data?
Any input will be most appreciated. So far, the only "free" alternatives I could find online are older, or more for Microsoft development and do not have the above features. These are:
    - XML Copy Editor (just an editor, looks like)
    - freexmleditor.com (non-commercial only)
    - oxygen (not free)
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

AFAIK JDeveloper has the ability you mention in part 1), but they are not easy to find and have to be applied within the scope of projects. I am also not very fond of that fact and most off the time I don't need all the overkill that is Java driven and not related to my XML issues. BUT it is "free", very compatible with the counterparts in the Oracle database and has a nice graphical XML representation that is workable (and contains all the xdb:annotations I need in the XMLDB realm of things).
Other free/not free variations are, for example
    - Liquid XML Studio (I am trying to adjust to the look-and-feel though)
    - Stylus Studio (nice look-and-feel and within normal $ scope regarding licenses)

  • Read only user creation for Oracle EM Console 11.1.1.5

    Dear All.
I have created Read only user for Oracle EM Console.
I have followed below link to do the same
    http://moshe-soa.blogspot.com/2011/09/blog-post.html.
I have noticed with read only user is that TEST button in EM Console is active means user with read only user can create a trans, in Prod scenario it is a risk.
Raised a CR with Oracle and found that it is a bug
Bug 14082464 - CANNOT DISABLE TEST/TEST WEB SERVICE BUTTON IN SOA EM COSOLE is there in Metalink.
So my question is there any way by which i can disable the TEST button in EM Conasole.
I think there are some WLST script or servlet java class available to resolve this issue.
Can any one confirm this and please suggest if any one aware of any alternative method.
    Thanks,

Hi, have you got any solution to this problem? I am having exact the same issue in 11.1.1.6.

    Thanks in advance.

you are posting in the wrong forum.. this forum is for the Desktop Datacenter Oracle on Linux VMware kit..
you'll get better luck in other forums or better yet, Google.. I put toad and linux as keywords and got lots of hits on TOra.. so you might research that way..

  • Alternative for TKPROF

    Hi OTN,
is there any good alternative for TKPROF?
    Best
    Jürgen

If you re-read my post, I didn't say that the Hotsos tool is free. There's more to the tool than what little I posted. The inclusion of bind variables is just something that I saw as a perk. It also orders SQL stmts by the speed in which they're running, the number of times they're run, and it does a pretty neat presentation where it nests SQL stmts so that you can see which steps initiated other stmts. The Profiler tool's presentation is solely focused on finding slow performing SQL, so it takes it a bit further than other tools I've seen which present the same data, and then you look through it to try & find the problem SQL.
I'd evalutate it for free, or get a demo, before I'd lump it into the "Oracle didn't create it, so it probably sucks" bin.

  • Document Service - Alternatives for dynamic conversion?

In WebCenter Portal, there's the Documents Service. If you are for example in the Document Manager task flow and click a document, it will show you a preview of the document (if configured properly, see:
http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E28280_01/webcenter.1111/e12405/wcadm_documents.htm#BABBCAHI) This preview is dynamically created using the Dynamic Converter component in WebCenter Content.
I've found that some users don't see the advantage of having a dynamically created preview. Generating the preview can take very long for complex documents and often the preview (of for example, a large Excel sheet) does not reveal a lof of information and people choose to download the document anyway.
Do we have any alternatives for the preview functionality? Perhaps a direct download, or alternative plugins? The only alternative I see is showing the document properties instead, but that's not very user-friendly. Any ideas?

    Hi Jaap ,
I think you can take a look at the Thumbnail functionality , which would show a snippet of the actual file rather than doing an entire Dynamic conversion . Not sure how much of in-context would this solution be , but just an idea .

  • Minimum resources for Oracle Application Express

    Hi,
I'm new to the forum, and a bit confuse here trying to find an answer to what supposedly is a simple question:
What kind of resources do I have to have to develop and deploy screens with Oracle Application Express?
    The scenario:
I have this Oracle application all created in forms that we are planning to give to our customers in a web based.
I'm looking for options to convert it and many forums are talking about how easy and inexpensive (free) the Oracle Applications Express is.
Then, talking with my main developer, he told me that in order to use it, the client need to spend quite a while in IAS (Oracle's Internet Application Server) and/or have to have the Enterprise version.
I'm looking for white papers on that and could not find any corroboration, but just texts telling that it's free and easy to use.
Any one can point me to the right directions on this issue?
Just want to know what exaclty do I need in order to use (creating and deploying) the Applications Express.
Right now I have Standar Edition 10q as well as my client
    THank you

If you want to develop an intranet web application, the HTTP server that comes with Standard Edition 10q would do. However, if you are thinking of it as an internet application then you better separate DB and web server. In that case you need to have either Oracle HTTP Server or Oracle Application Express Listener. Oracle HTTP server requires a license and usually bundled with DB or an Application Server. I believe Oracle Application Server is no longer being offered/available instead web logic server is made available. The basic edition of web logic would do as all you require is Oracle HTTP Server to broker the requestes between the web and the database. As far as I know, Oracle HTTP server is not being offered standalone. As mentioned above the other alternative is Oracle Application Express Listener but requires one of the J2EE complaint web servers like web logic, Glassfish, OC4J or TOMCAT.
    Hope this helps!

  • SWITCHOVER_STATUS value are different for Oracle 11gR1 and 11gR2

    Hi All,
I would like to know why is there a difference in the SQL output when run on a 11gR1 and 11gR2 Primary database in a DataGuard configuration.
    On a 11gR1 Primary database
Open an SQL Session on the Primary database and run the SQL statement
    SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    To Standby
Now open a second SQL Session
    Run the above SQL statement
    SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    Sessions Active
Now, when I do the same on a 11gR2 Primary database here is the result
    On a 11gR2 Primary database
Open an SQL Session on the Primary database and run the SQL statement
    SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    To Standby
Now open a second SQL Session
    Run the above SQL statement
    SQL> select switchover_status from v$database;
    To Standby
    Is this a bug in 11gR2 ? Is there a patch/fix available ?
    Oracle 11gR2 version 11.2.0.1.0
    TIA,
    Sudhir

    Hello Loic,
The result on the Standby Database is "Not Allowed". This is because there is no alternative Standby Available.
I have some scripts which does the switchover based on the Database status. As per Oracle 11gR2 DataGuard Admin docs.
Cut pasted for Oracle DataGuard Admin docs.
Step 1 Verify that the primary database can be switched to the standby role.
    SQL> SELECT SWITCHOVER_STATUS FROM V$DATABASE;
    SWITCHOVER_STATUS
    TO STANDBY
    1 row selected
Note: The WITH SESSION SHUTDOWN clause can be omitted from
the switchover statement if the query performed in the previous step
returned a value of TO STANDBY.
When I use SQL statement "ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PHYSICAL STANDBY;" and if there are Active SQL sessions then I get the error
ALTER DATABASE COMMIT TO SWITCHOVER TO PHYSICAL STANDBY *
ORA-01093: ALTER DATABASE CLOSE only permitted with no sessions connected
    Thanks,
    Sudhir

  • VSS Agent for Oracle 10g ?

    Hi there,
    I have SAP NW2004s, Windows 2003 server 64bit, Oracle 10g
4 partition with 1 hdd, C for OS, D for SAP application E for system and oracle logs+archived, F for only database files
We are trying to get backup in extrinal HDD 3TB HDD... through Symantic exec backup utility ver. 12
C and D drivers are backup fine, but sometime when server very busy and symantic start full backup for E and D drive database shutdown... sap instance is fine, but only DB instance is stoped
We are not using Symantec Agent software, is there any other software can help for that for-exmaple VSS for oracle 10g... if yes, where may i get this software any link?
Why we are not using BR tools:
1 - as i maintion before when I select "E" drive which is all logs files located symantec stoped db instance
2 - in case if i am taking backup from brtools full backup online + archived so its only take database backup + archived, not all others structure in case hard-drive failer, and data restore from symantec so its will be ok with C drive and D drive, but its nohting resotre for E and D
when I try to restore from oracle brtools to restore its getting an error for missing structure in E
so thats why I am looking only one solution either perfect symantec with online backup
    please give me some advised
    Thanks

    Hi,
Please use the standard & reliable Backup/Restore methods for any DB, to avoid more headache while Backup/Restore Operations.
Please refer [this thread|Re: Need some advise]. it will attend your most of questions. Some other alternatives (without using Backup agent) are mentioned there.
If you use Backup Agent to perform any DB backup, then It will be reliable method to perform Backup/Restore operations of DB.
With BR*tools u can also perform Non-Database Backup. Please refer [this link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_NW04/helpdata/en/0c/cd271365debc42bef96ac7fd907787/frameset.htm] and other relative links.
If you have configured the Backup Exec utility with Oracle agent on the DB server, then you can perform Online Backup by deselecting "Perform the backup offline" option withing that Oracle Backup Job properties.

  • What are alternatives for passing DB credentials to rwrun/rwclient command line instead of USERID parameter?

What are alternatives for passing DB credentials to rwrun/rwclient command line instead of USERID parameter?
As per application security, the DB details should be mentioned in command line.
I am looking for alternatives which I can use?
    Please help.
    Regards
    Gaurav Anand

If you want a database username/password for every user that runs a report, you need to include un/pw in the command.
An option that you see quite often is that Reports use a general database user to run any report. In that case you can include the un/pw of this special user in the Key Map File:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_run013.htm#RSPUB23557
Of course, in that case you need an application in front of the call to the report to check if the user is allowed to run the report. This is how most web applications work anyway: there is one database user, and application users are maintained in the application itself.
Or you can use single sign on:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/doc.11120/e24479/pbr_sso002.htm#RSPUB23512
