Multi-select Listbox selections from jsp to servlet

Hi,
I have a jsp page with a multi-select listbox. I need to take the selections that the user makes and pass them back to a servlet, which then needs to format them for the where clause of my sql select query. I have worked with multi-select boxes before, but just moving the selections between listboxes never using the selections in a where clause of a sql query. Can someone give me some guidance on this subject or point me to some documentation? Thanks much!

Don't muck about with fancy stuff in the HTML, just let the list box act like any other form component.
Probably you aren't using the right methods to get the data from the request. Did you try getParameterValues("listboxname")? Did you try getParameterMap() to see what parameters were coming into your servlet?

  • How to create thumbnail images on the fly from JSP or servlet?

    Hi all,
    Iam new to this forum. I need a solution for the problem iam facing in building my site. Ihave groups and briefcase section in my site. I allow users to upload files and pictures.
    When they upload pictures i need to create thumbnail for them on the fly.
    Is there any taglibs or java source to do this from JSP or servlets.
    It would be very greatful if i can get an early answer.
    Please let me know if there is any other forum where i can get better answer, if not here?
    thnx.

    Here is how you can create dynamic images:
    http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/JDCTechTips/2001/tt0821.html#tip2
    However, if you want to create gifs/jpegs and save them to the disk it depends from where you want to create the images. It is different if you are creating from another image or just drawing one from scratch etc.. But in the end you will probably need to use one of the imageencoder classes and write the result to the disk with the file io classes.

  • Multi Selection from a List Box to a Text Box

    So I want to be able to make Multi Selections within List box and export it to the Text box. Right now I have a Script running on the cal of the Text Box
    event.value = getField("LISTBOX").valueAsString;
    Which is able to do one selection but I cant find anybody that can grab two selecitons and put into a text box with commas for something. Is there a way to do this?
    -Zach

    Wow over my head a little. I understand what an array is with script but not how to write the script to handle it. I made this:
    event.value = getField("LISTBOX").value;
    But still no change in the behavior with multi selections. Example below if you want to check it out.

  • How to use the same bean from Jsp and Servlet

    I want to use the same bean instance from both the servlet and jsp.
    for eg. if a create a bean using the jsp:useBean in servlet and if a modify some values, that values should be reflected while i access the same bean from the servlet. But instead of that the servlet is creating a new instance of the bean.
    is it possible?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    When you call jsp:useBean you inform a scope (session, request, page...)
    This means the bean instance will be stored in that scope.
    So, if the informed scope is session, then, in the servlet you could get the bean instance back from the session, this way:
    HttpSession session = request.getSession();
    Bean b = (Bean) session.getAttribute("bean_id");

  • How to get multiple selections from jsp page in my servlet

    Hello Everyone,
    I've a list that allows users to make multiple selections.
    <select name=location multiple="multiple">
        <option>
             All
        </option>
        <option>
             Hyd
        </option>
        <option>
             Dub
        </option>
        <option>
             Mtv
        </option>
      </select>I want to get the selections made by user in jsp page from my servlet, selections can be multiple too.
    ArrayList locList = new ArrayList();
    locList = request.getParameter("location");when I do so, I get compilation error as the request returns string type. How do I then get multiple selections made by the user.
    Please let me know.

    For those kind of basic questions it would help a lot if you just gently consult the javadocs and tutorials.

    Both the file and text values are included in the binary inputstream of the request. The parametermap is always empty.
    There exist 3rd party API's to parse multipart/form-data streams, such as [Apache Commons FileUpload API|http://commons.apache.org/fileupload].

  • I cant pass an array from JSP to Servlet

    I have a JSP which creates a table when it is loaded doing a query on a database and showing the content of the result set.
    The data showed are some items' names and at the end of each row there is a text field where the user can write the quantity of each item to buy.
    I need to send to a servlet the name and the quantity of each item with a quantity value > 0.
    This is what I think to do:
    in the text field I've put an onChange event which calls a javascript function, the function inserts the item and the quantity inside an array if the quantity is > 0, removes the item if the quantity is <= 0.
    The submit button calls another function which put the array in the session
    session.setAttibute("daAcquistare",daAcquistare);
    daAcquistare is my array created in the JSP
    var daAcquistare = new Array();
    Inside the servlet I don't know how to take that array since if I do like this
    String[] ingrediente = new String[i*2];
    HttpSession session = request.getSession();
    ingrediente = session.getAttribute("daAcquistare");
    I obtain "Cannot convert from Object to String[]"
    How can I do to have that array inside the servlet?

    Thankyou for your reply.
    This is my form:

              <td><input type="submit" name="acquista" value="Acquista" /></td>
         </tr>
    </table>
    </form>and this is the servlet's doPost method
    protected void doPost(HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws ServletException, IOException {
              int i = Integer.parseInt(request.getParameter("totale_selezionati")); //nuber of item with quantity value > 0
              int j = 0, aux = 0; //j counts the number of items with quantity > 0 found, aux loops on each item id
              String[] ingrediente = new String;
              while (j < i) { //while stops when number of item with quantity value > 0 found is the same of the known number of those items
                   if(Integer.parseInt(request.getParameter("ingrediente"+aux)) > 0) {
                        ingrediente[j] = request.getParameter("ingrediente"+aux); //takes the attribute value of the item, how to thake the name too?
                        j++;
                        aux++;
                   else
                        aux++;
              IngrController.aggiungiIngredienteMagazzino(ingrediente,i);
              RequestDispatcher dispatcher = request.getRequestDispatcher("/verificarimanenze.jsp");
              dispatcher.forward(request, response);
    I can't use the items' names to loop on the form because the form is dinamically generated, I need to use the id attribute for that and then, take the name and value in the servlet... I can only take the value, I don't know how to take the name.

  • How to get the data of table from JSP to Servlet?

    Hi,
    I have a dynamic editable table of 3 columns on a jsp. On click on any cell the usr can edit the data. Now on click of submit button on the jsp I need to submit or get the whole data of all the rows to a servlet which would further process it.
    How do I do that?
    TIA.

    I am not sure whether u r getting my doubt or not
    properly. I am populating the table data in an
    arraylist of DO. with this arraylist I am displaying
    the data on the Screen.
    <%
    for(int i=0;i<alList.size();i++)
    DO d = alList.get(i);
    %>
    <Table>
    <tr>
    <td><%=d.getfirstField()%></td>
    <tr>
    </Table>
    <%
    %>
    The above code sniipet displays the data on screen.
    But as table being editable i would change the data
    in the cell and submit .
    So how do i capture this data? I cannot name the cell
    becos I am not sure how many rows would be displayed.
    In servlet I would use request.getParameter(?);
    TIAIf you table is editable nad has input field to edit then "malcolmmc's " answer will work perfectly.
    you can also use hidden form fields to use those vaues at servlet like this
    <input type="hidden" name="UniqueName' value="<%=d.getfirstField()%>'>
    Here UniqueName should be the unique for each cell value so that on servlet you can fetch these values using request.getParameter("UniqueName").

  • How to pass multiple parameters from jsp to servlet using iframe

    function updGrade(grd,actDetID,sID)
    updateFrame.location="/clucas/updateServ?s_id="+sID.value+" &act_ID="+actDetID.value+" &grade="+grd.value+";
    hi, i have this javascript on my jsp and try to send those three params to updateServ servlet inorder to update a grade value to database, but for some reasons it does not work. It is only work when I pass one parameter only.
    Can anybody help me with this please?
    thanks

    You have spaces before the & signs. They can't be there:
    function updGrade(grd,actDetID,sID)
      updateFrame.location="/clucas/updateServ?s_id="+sID.value+
                                           "&act_ID="+actDetID.value+
                                            "&grade="+grd.value;
    }

  • How to invoke a winword macro from jsp or servlet ?

    Hi,
    I have managed to open an word document from servlet. But I also need to run a macro to highlight some keywords once the document is open. Someone has suggested using runtime.exec(cmd) in the forum. Anyone can provide more details? Some code examples will be great.
    thanks,
    Aaron

    You need to find a command-line argument that will run the macro and highlight this keyword. (Try it with the Command Prompt)
    If you can find such an argument it's very easy to run it with java:
    Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("<insert argument here>");

    they should come from the database from and if they have been selected once and save in another table they should not appear again... that is is you selec Fix you cannot go back to New... how can I accomplish that in jsp
    my default is coming from on table and the rest from another reference table with for all the drop downs.

    Thanks.  I sorted it out after a while.  The problem that I was having is that Pages seemed to treat the copied and pasted webpage content almost like an image: indivisible.  I had to go back to the page and copy a few pages at a time.  Then I could paste the content in one page after another.

    I haven't tested this but this might help get you started.
    Your problem is that you are differentiating one "password" value from another. While iterating through your 'curLocks'(currentLocks?) simply create a new form to differentiate the various password values. Send the validate_clear() function the index number, when the button is clicked, to find the correct password.
    JavaScript:
    function validate_clear(index)
         alert(document.forms[index].password.value);
    JSP :
    <%
    for(int i = 0; (curLocks != null) && i <
    curLocks.size(); i++)
       ArrayList row = (ArrayList) curLocks.get(i);
       sSite =((java.math.BigDecimal)row.get(0)).toString();
       sAu = (String)row.get(1);

    Issue #2, The above prompt allows for all selection by using the % which works on desktop version, but not  Webi.
    Any clues to why on either of these issues.

    Hi
    If the code above was pasted from the code that actually runs, then I would suggest it could be because you have spelt "multi" incorrectly... not sure if DeskI would through that up as an error, or just ignore it!
