MultiLanguage support for Oracle Text

Hi,
We are providing multi language support in our application. So, we are using the NVarchar datatype. And we want to provide the search option for that text. So if i tried to create an index on that column it is giving the error and unable to create the index on that column. Same if tried to create an index on Char and Varchar datatypes it was successfully created the index on those columns and search is working fine.
But according to our requirements, we should provide the multi language support in our application.
Please suggest me how to create indexes on NVarchar datatype and providing the oracle text search features on that datatype.
Waiting for your favourble reply.
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Anil.

No place in the standard docs very well. There was a note I found on it at one point, but I can't find the number at the moment. 10g new features for Text note has some info on it though. I'll look again tomorrow.
I did a lot of research on the world_lexer a few months back (wrote some info on IR & Oracle Text our newest Oracle Press book), and got some good info from the product team. One of the chapters covering Text will be made available for free and there is a diagram in there of how the world_lexer processes text. I'll post the link to the forum when it is available.
Since it doesn't require a language column, it attempts to auto-recognize the text...but not really the language. More like...the type of text it is. White-space delimited languages like English or Spanish are easy to break into tokens. Japanese & Korean are another story...no white-space delimiter. Arabic is yet another story. Those are essentially the buckets that text is thrown into for breaking into tokens when using the world_lexer.
So, where does German fall? It will be broken up similar to English. But what about the special features (like alternate spelling) that are available? Nope - sorry. It doesn't know German from French. With the multi_lexer you defined sub-lexers and told Text which records were German or French. This means that you can use more of the lang features with it. The world_lexer is much easier to implement and maintain, but it is a trade-off.
Hope that defines it a little better.

  • Quark Support for Oracle???

I am uploading quark files in the database as BLOBs. Is there any way I can retrieve part or all components of quark file into html format and store in the database? I am using Oracle 9i with intermedia. Please also let me know the scope of Quark support for Oracle (i.e. what Oracle can do and cannot do with Quark files).
    Thanks in Advance.

This question is probably best asked in the Oracle Text forum. I beleive that Quark can have a text index placed on it, and the text might be able to be filtered to HTML (not images, if supported), but the real experts on this are in the Oracle Text forum.

  • Is possible to alter default collations for Oracle Text?

Oracle supports custom linguistic sorts for sorting and matching.
Is something similar availble for Oracle text?
Specifiaccaly we want to alter base letter definitions and ignorable characters for a given language.

Barbara, thank you for your reply.
The purpose was to satisfy certain requirements of arabic text search. These seem to be fulfilled by WORLD LEXER, so the case is closed.
Note that BASIC and AUTO LEXER implement differently the lexing of arabic text, with result not to be candidates for such a solution.
By the way, I tried to use skipjoins for setting an ignorable character but it did not work (auto lexer).

I checked the download page and it says:

I have 10.0.1.3.0 in place and used the companion cd of 10.0.1.2.0 to install the necessary tools on a clone. It seems to work and I was able to install the application now. Do I have to apply the patch again for some reason? Looking at the Metalink they say I should? Any experience out there.

  • Rep. does not have support for Oracle Designer

We're new to SCM and just useing SCM with JDeveloper.
Sorry for newbie stupidness. Searches of this forum didn't
turn up any hits on 21247 or other strings.
Given: brand new install of SCM. Created a private workarea
with RON. Attempting to use RAU to enable branching and
    versioning.
    I'm having some chicken-vs-the-egg problems. I can't
enable branching in my shared workarea with RAU because it
seems to want to pop up the Migration Dialogue and then
    this error occurs:
    CDR-21247: Error Cannot proceed!
The target repository does not have support for Oracle Designer
    objects
Any help or tip would be greatly appreciated.

    Curt,
If you managed to create a private workarea from the RON then versioning is enabled. You would have enabled this from the RAU.
Oracle 9i JDeveloper release candidate provides a wizard to create the workarea and private branch.
There are now two flavours of the repository, one with Designer + file and folder support and one with just files and folder support.
If you have no structured Designer components you do not require the Designer support to use JDeveloper with Oracle SCM.
I suggest you try the JDeveloper wizards. The RAU also offers a menu to examine repository object state. Check that you have no invalid
objects, they can be recompiled using the RAU.

  • Pre-built Thesaurus for Oracle Text

Could anyone provide me direction on where to get Pre-built Thesaurus For Oracle Text that is specific to pharmaceutical science companies.
    any advice would be appreicated

There are two ways you can use pre-built Thesaurus in Oracle.
    1) Just as an earlier reply you got, use the Thesaurus Management System (TMS) product that comes with a prebuilt Medra database for mdeical and other related text mining.
    2) Import and supplement your own medical thesaurus into the existing thesaurus that comes pre-loaded with the database using the provided APIs. As an example, you could download from the web the UMLS thesaurus content, convert the data into the API required format and load the UMLS data into the database. You can then cluster and classify documents/abstracts based on themes or subject matter.

  • ODF support in Oracle Text 10g R2 version ??

Currently, we are using Oracle Text 10g Release 2 version for HTML section searching in our application. we don't have any issues in Microsoft office 2003 documents.
But, when we use Open office documents(ODF), it is not working. It is throwing the following exception:
    java.sql.SQLException: ORA-20000: Oracle Text error:
DRG-11207: user filter command exited with status 1
DRG-11222: Third-party filter does not support this known document format.
    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.DRUE", line 160
    ORA-06512: at "CTXSYS.CTX_DOC", line 825
    ORA-06512: at line 1
We are using "AUT_FILTER" filter technology.
Any ideas for solving this issue?

You start to have to think outside the box at this point -- AUTO_LEXER isn't going to be able to support you natively.
You could file an SR, and let Oracle tell you whether they'd be willing to integrate changes (like new Verity libraries as they are developed) to 10.2.
That assumes that Autonomy (owner of Verity) has improved their support for ODF.
The OpenOffice formats are all xml-based; you could write something custom to extract the text from your openoffice files and submit them to Oracle as straight XML. I've done something similar to support Office 2007 formats.
You could write a custom USER_LEXER (which is essentially the same as custom extraction, but may be an easier place to hook in your custom code).
That's the main reason I suggested moving up to 11g -- none of the other choices have any easy, short-term fix or workaround.

  • TimesTen Cache Connect support for Oracle 11g

The latest 7.0.5 readme mentioned that "Oracle Release 11gR1 is supported with TimesTen Cache Connect to Oracle on Linux x86 32-bit and 64-bit platforms, and on Windows 32-bit."
What about Solaris 10? It looks like on Solaris 10 only Oracle 10gR2 being supported. What is so specific about Oracle 11?
    Thank you,
    Alex

TimesTen 7.0.5 can be used to cache data from different versions of Oracle database.
The reason why the support for Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX were not at the same time as the Linux platform was because Oracle database 11g was not available on those platforms initially. So TimesTen 7.0.5 was certified to support only the ones available first, and support for other platforms was added as 11g became available on those platforms. It was just timing of the certification, code base is the same.
