Multipe select list -  default database value

How can i achieve preselected Values in a multiple-select item based on values in the database ?
Thanks a lot!

Hi,
In that case you will have to change the 'Default Value Type' to PL/SQL Expression, and dynamically retrieve the values from the DB at runtime, probably from a Table.
Are you sure this is the cleanest way to achieve what you're trying to do?
Cheers,
Mike

  • How to make a select list to return value to numeric column?

    I do have a select list with static values (STATIC:01;0,02;1,03;2,04;3,05;4,06;5,07;6,08;7,09;8,10;9). The problem is that I am returning a value to a numeric column. Therefore I have set 'Post Calculation Computation' as "to_number(:P73_MRGRATING, 9);" however I am getting ORA-01722: invalid number. How, (or when and where) to properly convert a character from a select list representing a numeric value into column of NUMBER data type?
    Thank you for your time.
    DanieD

    Sergio,
    It is because I am not able convert a value in a page item (:P73_ID) to number. On a page before, I have assigned a value to an application item (APPL_ID). On page 73, I want to assign the value in APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID . The value assigned to APP_ID is numeric. On a page 73 I also have a computation in Page processing section. It is an 'After Submit' processing of a static assignment of application item APPL_ID to page item P73_ID. Unfortunately it does not work. (ORA-01722: invalid number). I have tested this also with a 'Post Calculation Computation' on page item P73_ID (to_number(:P73_ID, 9999999999);) and I am still getting ORA... error. Only way I can make it work is to create a page item P73_ID as a text field, then when I run page 73 and enter a value into P73_ID manually - then it works and I can save the values from the form into database...
    The strange thing is that I am using application item APPL_ID on a couple of pages, in where clauses and it always works, even when I am comparing APPL_ID against a numeric value like select * from a_table where some_number = :APPL_ID, this works. But when I would like to create an entry form and assign application item APPL_ID to the page item P73_ID that is referencing a numeric table column – then I am getting ORA-01722…
    Is there any application (sample application) that is doing this and it works so I can check it and learn how to create this process appropriately?
    Thank you for your time.

  • How-To populate SELECT LIST default value from SQL Query

    OK, I've done my homework, and did not find my answer in the Forum, so here it is.
    I have a Page that displays fields from a SQL Query. The Page also has below that radiogroups, checkboxes, and Select Lists to allow the user to change values in the fields that are displayed at the top of the Region. I am able to pre-populate the radiogroups and checkboxes by performing a SELECT in the 'Source value or expression' of the Source area of the Page Item.
    However, I am unable to do the same for the Select List fields. Their default value ends up being the first value in the LOV ('-- None --' for NULL values). Source Used: Only when current value in session state is null. Source Type: SQL Query. Also, when I first go into the Page when running it, and check the Session State values, they are all null, so I don't understand why the field is not populated by the SQL Query statement as the radiogroups and checkboxes are.
    Any suggestions??? I've tried all sorts of combinations.

    Thank you for the suggestion.
    I had considered that, but cannot do so, because we are using Oracle Application Express more for development than for data containment.
    We have all our data in an Oracle 10.g DB which is separate from the OAEX server, and the OAEX app will reference that data via VIEWs and DB LINKs. We are doing so primarily as an added data security layer, where the data is housed separate from the app, in case the Web site is ever compromised. The data that can be viewed is restricted to a subset of the actual data that is available.
    Since the data is on a separate server, (I assume) we will not be able to set the source type to Database column, because (I asume) that is dependent upon the data being housed by the OAEX server.
    That still leaves me with having to populate the field with a SELECT statement from the Oracle DB. This unfortuneately is almost a show-stopper for me because of down-stream processing data requirements. Have not been able to come up with contingencies yet.

  • Select list defaulting to first value

    APEX Version: 4.1.1.00.23
    Oracle Database: 11g
    Issue: The application is updating the selected value from the Select list (Y/N) to the database but in front end, the select list is defaulted to display only the first value in the list. What I find is the datatype of the field in the table that this select list is tied to is CHAR(2). And upon changing it to VARCHAR2(2), it worked fine. Now whichever option I choose from the select list is updated and displayed at front as well.
    I do not understand why is this messing up with CHAR(2). Anyone please explain, I would really appreciate that.
    Thanks,
    Samip

    never use CHAR() in your tables.
    CHAR will always pad your strings to the exact same length.
    In your case, you are comparing the table value of 'Y ' to the List value of 'Y'.
    declare
      a  char(2) := 'Y';
      b varchar2(2) := 'Y';
    begin
      dbms_output.put_line('variable A has length of ' || length( a ) ); -- this will ALWAYS have a length of 2
      dbms_output.put_line('variable A has length of ' || length( b ) );
    end;

  • Select List Defaults -- w/ Database Column

    I've checked the forums, but I'm still stuck on this.
    So I have a form that keeps track of meetings and contains a select list item of persons who could have organized the meeting. This select list is linked to a database column. I would like this to default to the logged-in-user when a new meeting is created.
    Unfortunately, whatever I try (defaults, computations, etc.), I cannot seem to be able to change the selected name. If source is set to database column and always use source, will it override and prior attempts to change the value of the select list?

    Wahhhh.....okay, it took me two days to come up with a solution to this. Marc, that was exactly the way I thought it should be. I had as the default attribute a PL/SQL function body that looked like:
    select person_id into :P27_LEAD_ID from person where username = :APP_USER;
    But that never worked. I still have no idea why. Anyway, I ended up using in SQL query to fill a hidden box and then referenced the box in the default using:
    &P27_LEAD_DEFAULT.
    Even leaving it as a PL/SQL expression and referencing it as :P27_LEAD_DEFAULT didn't work. =/
    Thanks for your help,

  • Select List Default Value

    I have wondered about this for a while but haven't found an answer, maybe because I haven't searched for the right thing.
    With a select list, is there a straightforward way to specify the first item on the list for the default value?
    What is the best way to handle a case where the query providing the list of values may take a while to complete? I don't want to double the setup time by repeating the query just for the sake of finding the first item.

    Yes, it is. I am never using default values but computations. Default value will be set only after page submittion and not on load. A computation will set the item session state on load. Usually, you use some kind of condition for the computations to set the value of the item to something only if the item value is NULL. One of the reasons is also that the computations are visible in the page property and default values are hidden within the item properties.

  • Report -- filter with selection list -- show all values after select page

    Hello!
    I have the following problem:
    - I have a report
    - this report can be filtered with a selection-list
    - the selection list is based on dynamic LOV and has a null-value
    - I added the code of the report the following, to filter the report after choosing a value of the selection list:
    ... and (instr(type, decode(:P8_FILTER_type, '%null%',type,:P8_FILTER_type)) > 0)
    This works very well.
    But my problem is: When the user logs out and the next time, he logs in, the selection list shows " --- show all values --- " (my null-display-value) and the report is empty "no values found".
    ---> I want to show the first time, the page is selected ALL the values of the report. (this is now only possile if I press the button which belongs to the selection list)
    I hope, somebody understands my problem.
    Thank you so much,
    LISA

    Hello Lisa,
    The first time it's probably NULL.
    So what you can do in your where: (instr(type, decode(NVL(:P8_FILTER_type,'%null%'), '%null%',type,:P8_FILTER_type)) > 0)
    Off topic: I also wonder if that where clause can't be simpler? Do you rely need the instr?

  • Unable to create a dynamic action ALERT to be generated on a Select List when particular value is selected.

    Hi everyone, this should be so easy, yet I am stuck.
    I have a form region with an item P110_VESSEL_ID.   This item is a select list.   It is based on the query:
    select distinct v.vessel_name, v.vessel_id
    from vessels vessels v, frequent_fishermen ff
    where ff.dea_permit_id = :G_PERMIT_ID and
    ff:vessel_id = v.vessel_id
    UNION
    select v.vessel_name, v.vessel_id
    from apex_collections a, vessels v
    where collection_name = 'SUPVES_COLLECTION' and
    a.c002 = v.vessel_id
    If the user decides against the values in the select list query, they may opt to SELECT ALL VALUES.  This SELECT ALL VALUES is a POST ELEMENT TEXT on P110_VESSEL_ID.
    <a id="popVessels" href="#"><font color=blue>Select from ALL Vessels</a>
    This all works fine.
    The issue is that when the user selects a vessel name = 'UNKNOWN' and it's corresponding vessel_id value, I would like an ALERT to appear indicating that they should double check that the vessel is UNKNOWN and not that the is no vessel.
    I created a dynamic action
    event= change
    select type = item
    item = P110_VESSEL_ID
    True ACtion #1 is the ALERT.
    I currently have no other logic, but cannot even get this to work.  Any thoughts.   I have also tried the SELECT TYPE = jQuery Selector = select[name='P110_VESSEL_ID'] but that does not work either (though I am not certain if the value should be P110_VESSEL_ID or the static name of VESSEL_ID).
    Any help is appreciated.
    ps.  the page is not submitted when the vessel is changed.  There is other data that needs to be entered both in this region and others and many validations run when submit, so the submit would not be an option.
    thanks again,
    Karen

    This should work.  Sometimes I've see where there is other javascript on the page that may have some errors and is causing the dynamic action code to not be executed.  Use your favorite browser script console to try and determine if this may be the case.

    P.S. Your jQuery selector can be: select#P110_VESSEL_ID

  • Select lists and deactivated values

    Consider the following simplified test case.
    1. create tables like this
    create table lov_values
      lov_pk number primary key
    , name varchar2(10)
    , active varchar2(1) not null
    insert into lov_values valeus ( 1, 'A', 'Y' );
    insert into lov_values valeus ( 2, 'B', 'Y' );
    insert into lov_values valeus ( 3, 'C', 'Y' );
    commit;
    create table trx
      trx_pk number not null primary key
    , lov_fk number not null foreign key references lov_values
    ) ;2. Create an APEX Insert/Update form on the trx table. Define the LOV_FK item as a select list with this query
    List of values definition:
      select name d, lov_pk r
      from   lov_values
      where  active = 'Y' ;
    Display Extra Values: Yes3. Users use the APEX form to create records like this:
      trx( trx_pk, lov_fk ) = ( 10, 1 )   -- users sees LOV_FK value as "A"
      trx( trx_pk, lov_fk ) = ( 20, 2 )   -- users sees LOV_FK value as "B"
      trx( trx_pk, lov_fk ) = ( 30, 3 )   -- users sees LOV_FK value as "C"4. A year later an admin deactivates lov_value 2/B by setting active to 'N'.
    5. When a user queries trx row 10 they still see "A".
    6. When a user queries trx row 20 they now see "2".
    7. When a user queries trx row 30 they still see "C".
    In step 6 I'd like the user to see "B" whenever they query old data with that value but I never want them to be able to create new trx rows with 2/B or update the LOV_FK value of existing rows to be 2/B. I'd also like to avoid using a pick list with a popup window just for selecting from a list of two (could be a few) values.
    Just wondering how others have dealt with this scenario in their APEX apps.

    I actually just found a simpler way in Select list filter in a tabular form problem forum thread. In the query that defines the tabular form I added a column called HIDDEN_FK_VALUE as follows.
    select
    "TRX_PK",
    "TRX_PK" TRX_PK_DISPLAY,
    "LOV_FK",
    APEX_UTIL.SAVEKEY_NUM("LOV_FK") hidden_fk_value
    from "#OWNER#"."TRX"Then I modified the the Select List query to look like this.
    SELECT name d, lov_pk r
    FROM lov_values
    WHERE (active = 'Y' OR lov_pk = APEX_UTIL.KEYVAL_NUM )Works like a charm. Thanks everyone for your input.

  • Multi-select lists, their return values and showing their display value

    I have a multi select list which is dynamic. The display and return values are pulled from a table where the return value is the Primary Key.
    When people select a few options, the value is stored in session state as 11:12:13 (etc...). From here, I run these numbers through a process which takes a report ID and the multi-select string, and saves individual rows as Report_id, individual multi select value until there are no more multi select values.
    This is great, they're tied in as a foreign key to the LOV lookup table, and they are easily search able.
    I have trouble where I want to list a report's entire multi-select list. I have a function combine the numbers with a : in between them and RTRIM the last one, so I have an identical string to what a multi-select table uses. 11:12:13 (etc..)
    When I assign it to display as an LOV in a report, it just shows the 11:12:13 instead of listing out the values.
    Single number entries, where someone only selected one option in a multi select, display fine.
    Am I doing this wrong?

    Scott - you're right on the money. I did this initially because I thought assigning an LOV display value to a report column would yield the results I wanted.
    I want to do this without referring to the original table... meaning I don't want a function to have to go out and get the names, I'd like my LOV assignment to do it. This saves headache of having to change something in 2 places if it ever changed.
    Am I not going to be able to do this?
    I created a test multi-LOV page, it doesn't work with original(not processed in my function) LOV assignments either, unless you only select one.

  • Possible bug ? - Default value for select list

    4.2.1
    Hi, I have one page with a couple of reports. I have a time period filter on top. Its a select list with values 7 days, 3 months and 12 months. Default value is set to 3 (where return values of select list is 1,2,3 resp).
    Now in page 1 which has this select list, :P1_SELECT it has a report which shows counts of number of items purchased. When the user clicks on the count(hyperlinked column), it takes the user to another page which runs the details of the items and also uses the Page 1 select. It works fine when I change the time period. However, if I dont change the time period in the select list when I first login, althought I have set the default value to 3, the interactive report on page shows no data found, because the select list default value I guess it does not recognize.
    Is this a bug?
    Thanks,
    Sunil

    Default values is only populated on the clien side and NOT in the session.

    Hi,
    you have some options:
    1) you can try setting default value of P1_SELECT_PRODUCT item, I was do it
    2) or you can try send the value of P1_SELECT_PRODUCT value in URL, like this:
    http://apex.oracle.com/pls/apex/f?p=45296:1:0::::P1_SELECT_PRODUCT:4
    3) or you can set the session state of P1_SELECT_PRODUCT item on page 101 (login page) by seting this value in Login process on page 101
    HELLO kIAS !
    SETTING DEAFULT VALUE VALUE OF P1_SELECT_PRODUCT_ITEM IS NOT A SOLUTION ON THIS MATTER, BECASUE P1_SELECT_PRODUCT IS CALLED DYNAMICALY AFTER THE LOGIN DEPEND UPON THE RIGHTS OF THE USER THE SELECT IS POPULATED ID USER IS E.G ABC AND IT DOESBNOT CONTAIN SELECT LIST VALUE 4 THEN IT DISPLAY NOTHING.
    AND THIRD POINT MAY BE HELP ME BUT I DONT KNOW HOW TO SET SESION STATE BECASUE WHEN I GO TO LOGIN PAGE AND CREATE SESSION STATE PROCESS FOLLOWING RADIO BUTTOPN APPEARS

    I have a select list generated from a SQL query that I need to get the display value from.
    Ideally, the display value and the submitted value of the select list would have been the same, but I can't seem to get APEX to allow populating a select list's display value and submitted value fields with the same database column.

  • Resolved: Use value from select list in pl/sql block

    Hello,
    I have a form with a select list: P18_BONUSTYPE, the values of which come from a LOV.
    When the user clicks a button, a page process is used to insert a row into a table.
    When I use the :P18_BONUSTYPE bind variable in my insert statement I get an error "Invalid number" I get an "Invalid number" error. I assume that APEX is using the displayed text in that bind variable, not its actual (html option) value.
    I checked the HTML of the page, and the correct values are in the select list.
    Can someone tell me how to get the value into a bind variable that can be used in a pl/sql block for a page process?

    Did you tried changing the value using "to_number"? (i.e. to_number(:P18_BONUSTYPE)).
