Multiple Backups to more than one drive

I tried to find the answer to this here but hopefully someone can help me:
I have 4 external drives and i want TM to backup drive1 to drive2 and drive3 to drive4 - because the largest drive cant backup drive1+2 together.
What is the solution? Only a raid system for TM?
Thanks

TM can only have one destination drive. you can RAID the backup drives but also keep in mind that TM drive should be at least twice as big as the total amount of data you are backing up. that's needed for overhead free space that TM requires and to accommodate incremental backups. if you don't have that don't use TM. use some other backup tool like CCCloner or superduper. they allow multiple destination drives. or you can use TM for one drive and something else for the other. also see this post for more backup options

  • RE: Getting multiple values from more than one multiple select popup window

I have a button on a JSP of mine that when clicked creates a popup window (right now it is called popup.html) with a multiple select menu.
My question is how do I get all the values selected from the menu into my JSP (sample.jsp) so that I can set each of the values for my bean.
The other problem is that I have more than one select multiple menu.
Please help if you can. Any advice or suggestions here would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

I realize that I can use request.getParameterValues to get the values selected from my html because I am passing them to the hidden inputs I have and then using the request.getParameterValues to get each of the values.
MY PROBLEM IS WHAT IF I HAVE 4 MULTIPLE SELECTS??? How can I use the same html popup menu to get the values from the 4 different multiple selects????
I look forward to your response.
This code is from my JSP:

  • Can Time Machine perform encrypted backups for more than one computer to the same external drive?

I have two MBPs.  The older MBP, with 1TB of storage, now contains two other MBP clones, for a total of 3 user machines on 1 MBP).  I'd like to back up both my newest MBP, and the older MBP with the 2 clones, to my new 5TB drive (via wi-fi).  I want to encrypt these backups, but am unclear whether it is possible.  Does TM first encrypt the drive itself, or is each back up separately encrypted?  I understand that if I wanted to encrypt an existing Time Matters backup on a drive, the prior data would be erased and reformatted, but here I am working with a new backup drive, on which one encrypted backup has been performed.
I just don't want to overwrite this existing backup (which was for my newest MBP).
Thanks for whatever help anyone can provide.

You should have prepared the drive better..
The drive should have been partitioned. It is possible to load the backups.. but you can get into trouble.
    See http://pondini.org/TM/4.html
Since partitioning at this point would destroy the existing backup.. the best way is to setup a disk image for each of the other Macbook backups and then mount the disk image and use that for the TM backup..
Encrypting the drive or the backup.. that is something I avoid.. backups to me are useless if I forget or lose the key.. apple have warned lose the key.. the backup is useless..
But check pondini FAQ .. you might be able to encrypt a drive image.. or the backup.

  • HT201250 can I use more than one drive with Time Machine i.e. one for just music, one for photos, etc.?

Can I use multiple hard drives for backing up specific folders in Time Machine?

You can use only one drive at a time as a TM backup destination, though you can switch among as many drives as you like. They'll all back up the same set of files, unless you keep changing your exclusion list (which I wouldn't recommend.)

  • Can Time Machine backups for more than one Mac be sent to the same external hard drive?

It's pretty straightforward, really.  We have two Macs, both running Mountain Lion.  Can we use the same external hard drive for Time Machine backups of both?

It would be best to partition the HDD - one volume for each Mac (you cannot partition a Time Capsule).
Note that by doing so, you will lose both backups should the drive fail.

  • Enabling Time Maachine to back-up more than one drive

My 1TB Time Machine is setup as my Ethernet hub and it backs up my main drive flawlessly. I am not using the Airport feature. I need Time Machine to back up a second internal drive which contains all of my pictures and tunes. Apple Support could not tell me how to do this other than to refer me to two second party software products, Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner. So far, their websites have not been particularly helpful. Any suggestions?

    Hi -
I've got 4 internal drives (2 on main cable, 2 connected to a SATA card for >128 MB capacity drives). When I first set up Time Machine to backup my disks, it was planning on backing up all 4 drives, judging by the amount of GB it wanted to backup. Since I was using one of those drives as a backup already (with deva vu), I didn't want/need to back that one up. There's an option to NOT include certain drives in the Time Machine / Time Capsule backup process.
Check the amount of disk space used on all your drives and compare it to the amount that Time Machine says it plans to backup. I think by default it backs up all connected drives.
Hopefully this helps, sorry if the instructions are a little vague, I'm not at home right now, so am not entirely sure what the <exclude> button was actually called.
    Good Luck

  • Multiple columns for more than one record?

    Crystal Reports Xi
I have a list of addresses, etc.  with attached route numbers.  If an address has 2 different route numbers, it will appear as two records.  Is there a way that I can list the address once, and have the route numbers just grow to more columns?
    Example - Change this...
    ADDRESS               ROUTE
    100 Main St.             1234
    100 Main St.             1235
    To This...
    100 Main St.            1234      1235
Note:  An address may have one route number attached, or several route numbers attached.
I tried playing around with the multiple columns, etc, but it kept on having everything in the section become multiple columns, etc.  Any help is appreciated.

multiple columns only work in detail section.
place your address without the route in the 1st details
then insert a 2nd details and place the route in the details then select multiple columns for that details section.
then underlay the first detail section and it should line up.

  • Using TM to back Up More than One Drive

I just bought a 500 Gb external drive. I want to use it to do digital audio because my MacBook Pro 2 Ghz Intel Core Duo has only a 100 Gb internal drive. So I plan to continue using the internal drive for most things, but start placing audio files on the external.
My TM backups currently go to a 230 Gb external drive, adn I want to continue to use this backup drive. I know that TM backs up my 100 Gb internal drive by default. But I can't tell whether TM will also back up the files on the external drive, too. Both externals are daisy chained via Firewire. My thinking was that if TM sees all 3 drives, I can back up both the 100 Gb internal plus up to 200 Gbs from the 500 Gb drive -- onto the 230 Gb backup drive.

    rikbarry,
I am a life long Apple/Mac guy and you could never get me to trade to a PC. The only dealings with PCs I've had is at work.
I tried using TM because I am a loyal faithful Mac person. However, after using it for a couple of months, I weighed the pros and cons of using it against two programs I used prior to TM - Super Duper and Carbon Copy Cloner. And you know what, Super Duper and CCC just gave me what I wanted better, faster and with less hassle.
Super Duper wasn't compatible with Leopard but has since had an update which now makes it compatible with Leopard.
Both SD and CCC can be scheduled to be run any time you want, produces a bootable clone without having to have to use the Leopard install disk, and only updates files that have changed since last backup. You don't have to worry about the disk filling up and getting backup failures like I did with TM. And it works. After using a Mac since 1988, I just had my first hardware failure (the logic board on my G5). I took my CCC cloned copy on my backup FireWire 800 drive, plugged it into my MacBook Pro while my G5 was at the Apple Store getting repaired courtesy of my Apple Care program and it was as if my G5 was still there humming away. Within five days, I had my G5 returned repaired, plugged my backup drive into the G5, cloned the cloned back to my G5 HD and now I'm writing this from my G5.

  • HT202213 Home sharing.  Multiple ipods and more than one user..... Do they all need seperate accounts?

I have set my kids ipods up on home sharing.  Now when their games on each personal ipod, they are the same user.  Is there any way of changing this?  Or do I have to make each kid a seperate account and buy all of these games twice?

It doesn't look like anybody had any answers for me, but its no big deal as I solved it myself. The problem was dependent on the WebLogic's implementation of their security context and hence there probably isn't a generic solution. It turns out that WebLogic can associate a user object with each thread. If a thread does not have a user object associated with it, it uses the default user which is assigned the first time a user signs in. The problem was that the application thread was used to initially sign in, but the awt event thread was used to access the ejb. Since the awt thread had no context it would use the default.
    If anyone wants to know more about the exact solution you can email me at r k e n w o r t h y@h o t m a i l . c o m (pardon the spaces - hopefully they will avoid extra spam going to my account).

  • Can I use one TC to create backups of more than one computer?

I've got a 1Tb TC. I've already created a backup of our iMac. Can I also create a separate backup file for my MacBook Pro on the same TC?
And while I'm at it, I have an Administrator user as well as two other users on the iMac. When I initially set up the TC initially, I did it as Administrator. It looks to me by the size of the back up file that it backed up for all three user accounts. If I need to restore from the TC, does it automatically restore all data for all three accounts? Is there any way to see the contents of the back up on the TC?
    Thanks in advance.

I've already created a backup of our iMac. Can I also create a separate backup file for my MacBook Pro on the same TC?
Yes, assuming there is adequate space on the TC disk.
It looks to me by the size of the back up file that it backed up for all three user accounts.
Time Machine will backup your entire system, all user accounts, etc., unless you tell it not to.
If I need to restore from the TC, does it automatically restore all data for all three accounts?
Yes, the entire system is restored.
Is there any way to see the contents of the back up on the TC?
Click on the Time Machine icon on the dock and wait for the "Star Wars" Time Machine interface to load. By clicking on the scale at the right of the screen you can select a date to see how your computer looked at any given time in the past, navigate the Finder interface to locate a file or document and click Restore if you need to retrieve a given file. Click Cancel to close out of Time Machine and return to your normal desktop.
If you open Macintosh HD and click on the Time Capsule icon at the left of the screen, a folder representing the Time Capsule disk will appear to the right. Double click the folder. There should be a xxxxxxx.sparsebundle file for each computer that is backing up. All of the backups are contained in this special file. Do not attempt to open this file....there are no user serviceable parts in there.

    - NO - kind of but not really - take a class - watch some basic videos on you tube...
    - YES - multicam is excellent
    - YES - you can switch it off - but you probably won't when you get used to it - after about 5 days
    - YES - very much so in the browser where it counts
    - YES... I think.
Really go watch some basic entry level FCP X vids - the answers are all there. I recommend watching the latest from 2014 on YouTube. There are plenty.

  • If my backup HD is not large enough, can Time Machine use more than one destination HD?

Hi, I have about 0,8 Tb on my Mac + 0,9 Tb in an external HD + 2,5 Tb in another external HD.
I have plenty of other HDs with 1-2 Tb that I could use as backup. Can I use them in Time Machine? Can Time Machine split all the data from my Mac and source HDs in more than one destination HD? I would love it if I could avoid buying large 6-10Tb HDs; they are still expensive... I'll appreciate your kind inputs!

Technically, you could store parts of your backup on different drives, but it would require you to be constantly changing the items excluded. It is designed to be a single backup, which you can do the entire backup to more than one drive.

  • More than one time machine backup..

Is it possible to make time machine backup to more than one location? I have a nice big 2TB drive at my office that I use for time machine and it works perfectly but I would also like to run a second time machine backup to a portable 1TB drive that I own so that I have a backup that I can carry around with me as well as the fixed backup I leave at my office.
When I last tried to backup to the portable drive it forgot all about the original backup so when I came to try and back that up again it wanted to run from scratch and ignored all of the files on the external drive.

    Chanandl3r wrote:
I then ejected the big 2TB drive and re-connected the smaller 1TB portable drive. I opened TM and clicked on Backup Now
Did you change the destination via TM Preferences > Select Disk?  If not, that may be the problem.
Can't I just plug in different disks when I want and the system recognise them and run the appropriate backup for me?
No; you must tell TM when you swap destinations.
Did the new backup complete?  Are you sure TM was writing to the 1 TB drive?  There are some circumstances where OSX will "forget" that an external drive has been disconnected, and create a folder in the /Volumes folder on your internal HD; then Time Machine (or other app) will write there, instead of to the external HD.   See the blue box in Where did my Disk Space go? to check.

  • Using more than one external drive with apple tv and itunes

I've searched the forums and haven't found a clear answer for this. Is it possible to use two seperate drives for the itunes library? I've already filled up my external firewire drive and would like to get another one.
I've read in several places that people are doing this, but haven't found clear instructions on how its done.
    Much thanks!
    Brown.Recluse

I don't think you can have more then one folder designated as you itunes library folder, so you can not have more then one drive for your library folder. However you can use more than one drive for you content. I have 6 drives that I use right now. I store the movies and tv shows on those drives. I drag a movie into then library tab in itunes and it just links itunes to the path of the movie. To do this however you have to unclick a option in itunes. It is the menu that you tell the path to you library, you have to unclick “copy to your library” not sure if this is the exact name of this. If you don't do this it will try to copy the movie you dragged in instead of linking it. I actually have nothing in my Itunes library folder. You can also do this with purchased content as well. Just move the purchase content to a drive of your choice from the itunes library. Delete it from itunes. Then drag it into itunes from the new drive. I hope this all makes sense, let me know if you have any other questions.
