Multiple Chapter ID

Dear All,
our clients scenarios is like this. There are some salable items which have more than one chapter id. This is because these items undergo different process. I just want to know whether it is possible to maintain multiple chapter id for same item in master ....???? OR
any selection criteria to choose chapter id while performing the transaction...??
Regards
swapnil

Hi,
No you can't have different Chapter Id for the Same Item and also Not possible to enter Chapter Id at the transaction level for an Item also.
No thing i can suggest is to create 2 Item masters and give the respective Chapter Id's and as you also mentioned about after the process it changes you can record this by using Production Order where you raw material would be Item A and once processed you woul get Item B, here advantage is you will have exact idea how much of Item have you processed.
as in chapter Id along with Id, you are required to mention if it is a Raw Material Item or Finished Goods. so better to have 2 items than one, helps in sumbitting Excise Return Forms also.
hope this resloves ur issue

  • How Do I Globally Edit Multiple Chapter Master Pages In a Book?

I'm working on a new edition of an existing book; the new edition will have a new trim size.  I have 40 or so chapters, and I want to change the master page of all the chapters and part headings of the book.  It's been about five years since I've done anything in FM, so I'm having a hard time figuring out how to change the page and flow size of all the chapters in the book.  Is there a way to do this globally?  Or, to do it to one chapter and copy/paste those master pages to all the other chapters?
    Thanks!

See the recent thread (about same issue for Variables).
    Editing multiple chapters at once.
Same technique, just specify only Page Layouts.
And you'll probably want chapter1.fm to be the controlling instance, rather than cover.fm

  • Putting multiple chapter-marked movies under one IDVD menu

I am currently making various instructional videos for a company and I want to fit 4 separate imovies that are chapter-marked under 1 idvd menu so I can fit this in 1 Dual layer DVD . Any answer can help. Thanks
    Macbook Pro 15"   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

I assumed the OP had tried that and it failed..
I asssumed he was using the 'Export from iMovie' approach that only gives you a way to add one movie to an iDVD project.
Anyway, we should have him covered.

  • How do I have Blu-Ray pop up menus linked together if I'm using multiple timelines?

I have a 6 timeline project that I put in pop up menus for.  Each timeline asks for it's own pop up menu to use.  The pop up menus seemed to need to be created with the multiple chapter option to work for me, I couldn't create stand alones and link them together because the timeline asks for ONE pop up menu associated with it.  I then created 6 separate pop up menus (each one ended up with about 3 pages) one for each timeline.  I tried to link POP UP MENU1  to POP UP MENU2 with a NEXT button at the end of the last page of POP UP MENU1.  When I drag the whip to link it to the proper pop up menu when I actually look at the button the link is the current pop up menu not the one I want it linked to, so I am unable to do this.  The pop up menus function properly on my Blu-Ray player- If I am viewing material from timeline 1, I can pull up POP UP MENU1 and arrow back and forth to the three pages on this, POP UP MENU2 functions the same way for timeline 2.  etc.
    Project Settings:
    Blue Ray
    720 X 480
    EncoreCS5
    Quad 4
    2.4 GHZ speed
150 GB free space on drive
    NVIDIA GEFORCE 8500 card
    6 GB Ram

First of all, the pop up menus can not be linked to each other.
If you want, you can have more pages on a single pop up menu and link all your timelines or chapters to the buttons of the pages and then link that pop up menu with more number of pages to all of the timelines. In this way, you can have the option to navigate to any chapter of any timeline while any timeline is playling.
    Thanks,
    Ramesh.

  • How to add another Chapter Page for more then 6 chapters & add right arrow?

    Hello,
I created a project via the Magic iDVD option and it worked great and added multiple chapter pages for more then 6 chapters. Now, I manually added a submeno off of main and added 6 chapters but I need multiple pages since I have 40 chapters... I can't figure out how to add another chapter page and create a RIGHT ARROW navigation button for the next pages...
I also looked at the map view and see that on the working pages there is page connected to page... I also cannot find a way to add a page connected vi map view...
I have searched the forum but none of the answers were clear on how to do this... any help would be appreciated...
    Thanks! T.

Adding the submenu is easy...making the button for it a "right arrow" is not.
You can keep adding submenus to other submemus by navigating to the appropriate menu and then choose the "add submenu" command from the iDVD project menu. This can be done in either normal or map view.
However, this creates a "folder" button, (or other things in some themes) not a right arrow. I agree it should be a choice! My 2nd best solution is to chage the folder button to a "text only button" and label it "More Chapters > >"
Another solution (3rd best??) is to use command-shift-4 when you are one one of your other menus that DOES have a right arrow, and take a mini picture of the arrow. Then choose one of the oval menu buttons on the button pane, and drag this tiny picture onto the button. Re-size it to make it close to the same size as your other buttons. It will have a funny edge on it from the button style, but it will look like a right arrow.

  • Advance chapter menus without a button?

Does anyone know where I can find advice about scripting a command to change menu pages by using the remote's up or down arrows?
IE: on a menu with multiple chapter selection buttons, I want to be able to click through from top to bottom and upon reaching the last on that page, click down again to change page to the next group of buttons.
I've seen it done before but cannot find any information on it now.
    Thanks for any help!
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Final Cut Pro 5.1 / Dvd Studio Pro 4

    Keirene:
You can get that without any scripting! You just have to assign an Auto Action to yhr NExt Page button of your menu. This info is from DVDSP User Manual:
Auto Action: If you enable Auto Action for a button, it will activate automatically as soon as it is navigated to, without the viewer needing to press Enter. This is useful in menus, such as scene selection menus, in which you use Next and Previous buttons; you can assume that if viewers navigate to the Next or Previous button, they want to activate it.
You'll find this setting in the Advanced Tab in the Button Inspector.
Search in the PDF USer Manual for "Auto Action" and you'll find detailed info.
    Hope that helps !

  • IDVD chapter selections all point to the same video clip!

In iMovie I created a movie with 9 chapters, I'm using iMovie 6 because I can still easily create chapters. I've shared the movie to iDVD and added a music track to the menus only. There are 3 menu pages, the main and two sub menus. When I select "play movie" the entire movie plays through in order. If I select any of the 9 chapters it plays the same clip every time. Doesn't matter which chapter I click on 1-9 it always plays chapter 4. Does anyone have an idea what I may be doing wrong? I've not had this problem before with multiple chapter movies. Thanx

    Hi
YES - This is the dreaded iDVD BUG
And it is set of by
    • Making a video
    • Export it one way or another to iDVD and a New iDVD project
    • Finding something needed to be altered and returning to Video-editor (iMovie, FinalCut or whatever)
    • Fixing it and returning to iDVD
NOW - iDVD will notice the difference and ask You to either Cancel or Up-date - and now all Chapters points to Chapter one.
    Medicine:
    • It's said that You can Clear out iDVD assets and re-import the edited video.
    • I do - Start a brand new iDVD project - Import last edition of movie and never look back.
    Yours Bengt W

  • Chapter Marker not corresponding

After burning an iMovie in iDVD6 that has multiple chapter markers, all the markers work fine except one. That one marker takes me to a previous marker instead. None of the markers are too close together and while this marker does fall within a transition I have many markers that begin at a transitions and they all perform perfectly. When I double check the alignment in both iMovie and iDVD the markers respond and correlate perfectly yet upon play this one marker does not perform correctly. Any thoughts?

Well... You're probably not going to be too thrilled when you read this...
I had a similar situation. Marker typo. Changed it. Then my iDVD project got messed up. I finally had to finish the iMovie project and save it. Start a NEW iDVD project. Drag the iMovie file into the new iDVD project.
You should create a disk image and test it. Then burn a DVD.
    File/Save as Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/6.0/en/18.html
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/image_to_diskstone.html
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. If you hold your mouse cursor over the pop-up it says: "Select a slower speed to work around burn failures," so select 4x or slower for best results. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Chapter Markers for Apple TV movies

After a search, I saw a brief discussion about using Handbrake to set chapter markers for Apple TV.
But is there a way to set chapters with iLife apps or QT Pro? With my home movies, the Apple TV remote button ">>" advances to each scene I captured with the Canon camcorder. At least it's not random, but dvd-style chapters would be nicer.
I realize QT removes chapters from iMovie projects, but I'm wondering if anyone has a workaround.

To create a chapter list in QT Pro:
    1. In a text editor or word processor, type your list of chapters and save the document as plain text.
    2. Make each item very short (preferably one word but no more than two or three words) and separate each item with a carriage return.
    3. In QuickTime Player, choose File > Open File, select the text file, and click Open.
    4. Choose File > Export. In the Export pop-up menu, choose "Text to Text." In the Use pop-up menu, choose "Text with Descriptors."
    5. Click Options. In the Text Export Settings dialog, select "Show Text, Descriptors, and Time"; select "Show time relative to start of Movie"; and set fractions of seconds to 1/30 (the default is 1/1000).
    6. Click OK, then click Save to create a text file with descriptors.
    7. Open the exported list in your text editor or word processor, and open the target movie in QuickTime Player.
    8. Choose Window > Show Movie Info.
    9. In QuickTime Player, drag the playhead on the timeline to find the first point in the movie where you want to begin a new chapter.
    10. Use the Right and Left Arrow keys to step forward or backward a frame at a time as needed. Note the current time in the Properties window.
    11. In the text file, find the first chapter title and change the timestamp just before that chapter title to the time you noted in the Properties window.
    12. The timestamp might now read, for example, [00:01:30.15], meaning that selecting the first chapter title will jump the viewer 1 minute, 30 seconds, and 15 frames into the movie.
    13. Repeat steps 9 through 11 until you've identified all the places in the movie that correspond to the chapter divisions and you've entered the proper timestamps in the text file.
    14. Change the last timestamp (the one after the last chapter title in the text file) to match the duration of the movie.
    15. Save the text file and import it into QuickTime Player.
    16. QuickTime creates a new movie with just a text track.
    17. Choose Edit > Select All, choose Edit > Copy, and close the movie.
    18. Click in the main movie, choose Edit > Select All, then choose Edit > "Add to Movie."
    19. QuickTime adds the text track to the movie.
    20. Choose Window > Show Movie Properties.
    21. In the Properties window, select the video or audio track you want to associate with the chapter track, and click Other Settings.
    22. Choose the main video or audio track from the Chapters pop-up menu.
    23. If you have a movie with alternate subtitle or sound tracks, you can create multiple chapter lists in different languages and set the appropriate subtitle or sound track as the owner of each chapter list. The chapter list will change to match the selected language.
    24. Select the text track, then select "Preload this track" (to make the chapter track load first).
    25. Deselect the new text track so that it doesn't display on top of the video.
    26. The new track will still function as a chapter track.
    27. Save the movie as a self-contained movie.
    28. You can now choose a chapter title from the pop-up menu to the right of the timeline.

  • How to add chapters to exported Apple TV movies

(The process works with QuickTime 7.4 and Final Cut Express 4.0)
To add chapters to movies exported from FCE using the "Apple TV" preset in the Export menu:
In a text editor, like TextEdit in the Applications folder, type your list of chapters.
Make each item very short (preferably one word but no more than two or three words) and separate each item with a carriage return.
    Choose Format/Make Plain Text.
Save the document as plain text.
In QuickTime Player, choose File > Open File, select the text file, and click Open.
Choose File > Export. In the Export pop-up menu, choose "Text to Text." In the Use pop-up menu, choose "Text with Descriptors."
Click Options. In the Text Export Settings dialog, select "Show Text, Descriptors, and Time"; select "Show time relative to start of Movie"; and set fractions of seconds to 1/30.
(The fractions really don't matter, we will change the value later)
Click OK, then click Save to create a text file with descriptors.
Open the exported list in your text editor, and open the target movie (formatted for Apple TV) in QuickTime Player.
Choose Window > Show Movie Inspector.
In QuickTime Player, drag the playhead on the timeline to find the first point in the movie where you want to begin a new chapter.
Use the Right and Left Arrow keys to step forward or backward a frame at a time as needed. Note the current time in the Inspector window.
In the text file, find the timeScale attribute and change to 24.46.
Next, find the first chapter title and change the timestamp just before that chapter title to the time you noted in the Inspector window.
Example: For a chapter called "one" that starts at 4 seconds, 21 frames into the movie, you would revise the text to look like this:
    (00:00:04.21)
    *{textBox: 0, 0, 50, 160}one*
    Ignore the textBox attribute.
Repeat steps until you've identified all the places in the movie that correspond to the chapter divisions and you've entered the proper timestamps in the text file.
Change the last timestamp (the one after the last chapter title in the text file) to match the duration of the movie.
    Save the text file.
Open the text file in QuickTime Player.
Choose Edit > Select All, choose Edit > Copy.
Click in the target movie, make sure the playhead is at the beginning, choose Edit > "Add to Movie"
QuickTime adds the text track to the movie.
Choose Window > Show Movie Properties.
In the Properties window, select the video or audio track you want to associate with the chapter track, and click Other Settings.
Normally you would choose the main video track.
(alternatively, choose audio track from the Chapters pop-up menu. If you have a movie with alternate subtitle or sound tracks, you can create multiple chapter lists in different languages and set the appropriate subtitle or sound track as the owner of each chapter list. The chapter list will change to match the selected language.)
    Select the text track.
Deselect the check box for the text track so that it doesn't display on top of the video.
The new track will still function as a chapter track.
Save the movie as a self-contained movie.
In the Finder, drag the movie to iTunes, and then Sync to Apple TV. The movie will play in Apple TV with Chapters!

Thanks for explaining that in detail Mike.

  • Can you point me to FrameScript samples that do some or all of the following?  Or maybe even write the script for me for $$$? :-)

    Hi,
I'm brand new to writing FrameScript.  I'm looking for example scripts that I can piece together or perhaps you can give me a quote for your cost to write the script for me.  Here is a description of basically what needs doing.  We have .book files than contain say a cover.fm, multiple  chapter.fms, and possibly multiple appendix.fms.  (They actually contain more  types, but I can expand the script for that.)  I don't think here is a  consistent way to automatically determine which .fms are of which type, so I was  thinking of popping up a dialog box that showed the files in the book and asked  the user to identify which files were of which type.  This asking could be done  all at once, or it could iteratively ask for the first type then run all the  processing then ask for the second type, etc, etc.
The processing of each file goes like  this:
    1) Delete the paragraph and character catalog  contents
    2) Import all formats, including the new paragraph and  character catalogs from correct template file (chapter.fm, appendix.fm,  etc)
    3) Remap the old paragraph and character tags to the  new ones, preferably based on an internal predefined, hard-coded table, but  possibly using the "use a remapping table that is in another .fm file" method.   It's just that the latter method requires the user to open two more .fms in  addition to the several other template files they'll already (correct?) have to  have open.
    4) Report to the user all tags that are in their file  that are not in the new catalogs
Can you point me to pieces?  Write the whole thing?  Recommend someone who can?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Dave, if you haven't yet check it out, do visit the Framescript users group, here:
        http://groups.yahoo.com/group/framescript-users/
There are several folks who do contract FS work who post their contact info as part of that group (I believe there's a webring also). Also,  Rick Quatro has a good e-book "Crash Course" about learning FrameScript (although the book refers to an earlier version, almost all of the concepts are still applicable to the current versions of FS and FM) , check it out at

  • Saving .idml causes InDesign 6 crash

Working on a large book with multiple chapter files. The client has asked for .idml files. The whole book has gone smoothly with no software issues, but when I try to save any of the chapter files as .idml, InDesign 6 crashes almost immediately. I have restarted InDesign, restarted my Mac, now installed the latest version on InDesign 6. Still crashing. Any ideas?

    My fault entirely.
When I tried to load the .idml file into BBEdit, I was using a lnk to an old, thrown-out BBEdit version, and that's what caused it.
I thought the editor had opened the file, but it was just the system saying there was no editor.
    Thanks. All fixed.

  • InDesign 4 -- printing booklet

I am building a publication, i set it in individual, facing pages 1-12...okay, i print as a booklet to get the pages 12,1 printed on one spread, 2,11 printed on one spread....and so on. I can print ALL the pages on the correct spreads at once, but can't figure out how to print just pages 12 and 1 as one spread.  Am I clear on this?  Do I have to set up a new publication and have it manually set up, or can I print from the Print Booklet menu to just print page 12 and 1 on one spread?

Congratulations, glad it worked!  Can anyone help with a similar problem described below where we have multiple chapter files we want to combine and print as a booklet using Print Booklet - Vista Ultimate, InDesign CS3 /Master Collection.
I am told Print Booklet does NOT work with the Book feature.

  • How to: Horizontal slideshow with parts of previous and next images

I want to make a slideshow with 6 images in it. The centre image is fully visible, the previous and next images, you can only see parts of it. When you click on the button for previous and next the image swipes tot the centre. Is this possible in Muse, and how???
I dont want to show the slideshow in the full background( yellow area in the screenshot) but only in the main container.(see image below)

"Previous" and "Next" buttons are for selecting the next or previous menu in a series of submenus for multiple chapter selection. Look at the options for indexing that creates multiple submenus for the chapters in a timeline.

  • Menus for Blu-Ray

Can one build chaptering menus that work in Blu-Ray with Encore?  I normally have worked with Final Cut X but there is no way to build menus for the Blu-Ray DVD.  Thanks
    Don

Sorry to explain so poorly.  The timeline is the whole DVD.  Within it are multiple chapter points to delineate segments of the information.  Than, using the Mpeg2 compression file in Apple's DVD Pro, I build the menus with buttons which relate to the chapter points.  However, if I select. The compression protocol for Blu-Ray, it seems as tho I cannot make menus which are functional on the Blu-Ray disc.
Another gentleman has answered saying there are many available menus in Encore which can be used for a Blu-Ray disc.  I got Adobe Premier's trial.  Am assuming that is different than Encore.
    Appreciate your help
