Multiple Clone in After Effects

Hi,
My name is Kim, I'm a beginner in After Effects and I have 1 question.
Is it possible to create 1000 clones in After Effects ?
It sounds crazy but I don't know ...

Importing .AI file (multiple artboards) into After Effects imports all layers?

Okay, so I've been trying to figure out this issue that I am having but the problem is a bit wordy to explain.
What I want to do: Import an Illustrator file, that is a single artboard from a multiple artboard file into After Effects and ONLY import the layers from that artboard.
What is happening: Artboard 1 with shape 1, artboard 2 with shape 2, and artboard 3 with shape 3. When I export them (Save as --> .ai --> Save each artboard as a separate file), in .ai the layers are correct (ie only shape 1 on artboard 1), but when I import the .ai into AE, artboard 1 has shape 1, shape 2 and shape 3 (they are all separate layers).
How does Illustrator determine what is or isn't in an artboard? I am seeing the other layers but they are only 1x1 in AE.
I am using Illustrator CS6 and AE CS6 and I've tried it both on Mac and PC, and haven't gotten it to work. The weird thing is that it WAS working correctly before.

I have (hypothetically), a three layer file each with a rectangle. Each rectangle is on a separate artboard. When I save each artboard as a separate .ai file (ie "Save as --> save each artboard as separate file"), in each .ai file, only the layers in each artboard are in the separate ai files:
artboard_01.ai only has layer with rect 1,
artboard_02.ai only has layer with rect 2,
artboard_03.ai only has layer with rect 3,
This is good, BUT when I import into After Effects, all three layers appear in each comp generated from the imported .ai files
comp of artboard_01.ai has layer with rect 1, layer for rect 2 (no content), and layer for rect 3 (no content).
comp of artboard_02.ai has layer with rect 1(no content), layer for rect 2, and layer for rect 3 (no content).
comp of artboard_03.ai has layer with rect 1(no content), layer for rect 2 (no content), and layer for rect 3.

Multiple problems installing After Effects 12.2.1.5 trail on os x 10.9.3

iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7 - 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
I downloaded the CC app and then downloaded After Effects 12.2
Installed the 12.2.1.5 update.
I feel that all my issues are interrelated so I'm posting them together.
Here are the problems:
After Effects warning: Could not rename the file '/Users/...../Library/Preferences/Adobe/AfterEffects/12.2/Workspaces......xml' to Workspaces.xml'. My workaround: i changed the 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2 folder permissions to Read & Write for system,wheel,everyone + all enclosed folders.
Start up time takes 4 minutes because it hangs on Initializing MediaCore.
'Quicktime component not installed on this system...' error message. Strange because QT works for AE CS5
Quicktime not available in Render Queue
Render Queue: Missing lossless, alpha only, lossless with alpha, quicktime, and ram preview formats
Ram preview only works for a few frames then stops.
Preferences : After Effects Multiprocessing: Number of actual cpu's used is stuck at 0. Can’t be changed.
Preferences don't save after restart
Instead of hunting down solutions for each problem I feel there is one solution to them all.
My hunch is there is a permissions problem that stops After Effects from installing and working properly.

And there have been a number of threads about it. You may have a couple of different issues occurring and I've seen some good threads on both.
Permissions issues are mentioned a lot with OS upgrades. Do a forum search and I'm sure you'll find some answers.

Adobe After Effects Multiple instances does not working parallel using Scripting

Hi all,
i am uploading after effects template to my site, user came and upload his desired contents.
i update the template using scripting with user's contents and then render video so user get video with his uploaded text/images etc.
its working perfectly when i update a single template at a time but when multiple users come at the same time then they need multiple instances of after effects
so i open multiple instances of after effects by using "-m" with after effects shortcut
after looking at windows task manager there are both instances but the problem is
only once instance continue and the second one stop, after completion of first instance the second one still in pause status
i need 2,3 4 or whatever instances to work parallel without pause/stop
i am using windows server 2008 R2 with XAMP installed

After Effects CC (AERENDER) licensing errors for multiple CORE renders on a SINGLE machine.

I am hoping someone can assist me with an issue I am having in After Effects CC, or know who I should reach out to.
I currently use SMEDGE as a render farm tool. It can launch multiple instances (per core of a licensed machine) of aerender to render a project. This was worked beautifully on CS6, but with CC is breaks. It shoots out the following error: "After Effects error: Unable to obtain a license. Please run the full application to correct the problem or get a more detailed message." My machine is licensed with me logged in and I can run AE CC GUI with no issue.
Is there a way to activate multiple aerender nodes on a single licensed machine? I have an 8-proc machine that used to be able to launch 8 instances of aerender on CS6, since A.E.CC, no more.
Any help would be appreciated as it has cut my render time down drastically.

Problem importing PSD (with multiple groups and layers) into After Effects. Help!

I created a "comic strip" in photoshop (multiple rectangle shape layers, then various shapes within each box for each frame of the comic strip) that I want to import into AE. When I import it as a composition (to keep my layers), however, what appears is an simply a black image with white lines where the lines of the comic strip used to be. I checked the color modes, but they are both in RGB so I don't think that's the problem. Also, when I double click the cartoon strip composition, I can choose certain groups from the mini flow-chart at the top left and view those individual frames. However, I can't view the entire comic strip as a whole, which is necessary for my animation. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated, as I'm on a tight time constraint. Thanks!

When I asked what version down to the last decimal, I meant it. After Effects version should start with 11, but we need the numbers after that too.
And I understand that you want to pan between them, so just put all the different PSD's you import into the same comp and pan between them.

After Effects problem with clone stamp tool

Hi,
I've been using clone stamp tool in Photoshop for years and has no problem with it. But somehow I could never get it work on After Effects. After alt+click to select source I can then click (and hold left mouse button), rub and change the target area as expected but as soon as I let go the mouse button the target area reverts back to original.
What did I do wrong?

First question that I have for you is did you look in the help files?. Simply type clone stamp in the search After Effects Help field at the top right corner of the application frame it you will find all kinds of information. There are a few good tutorials linked directly from the help file. After Effects Help | Paint tools: Brush, Clone Stamp, and Eraser
Because After Effects works with video you have to make sure you have the correct options for your clone stamp or your paint tool selected and you are working in the correct window. It is not so much that the clone stamp is not working, it is just that you probably do not have it set up correctly.

I have multiple programs downloaded from Creative Cloud, but when I try to download after effects and Audition it downloads to 42% and stops.

After Effects CS6 crashing with multiple moniters

I recently upgraded from CS4 to CS6 in after effects.
CS4 ran smoothly and fine.
However, when I start CS6 i get the typical loading screen, it then tells me that
GPUSniffer.exe has stopped working *I click close the program*
Another window comes up
After Effects error: Crash in progress. Last logged message was: "<2076><GPUManager><2>Sniffer Result Code: 1
Then it closes everything. I read online this can happen with multiple moniters. My main screen is connected via SVGA to my graphics card, however my second (and smaller screen) is connected to the mobo and runs on VGA.
My graphics card is fully updated as is most of my other drivers.
I can take out the moniter and then AE boots fine, but I don't want to do this everytime just for AE.
My only solution to this is leaving the error message there and waiting for AE to load, or clicking close and having everything crash.

Nobody can say anything without exact system info, but using two different graphics adaptors is not the best of ideas. AE most likely tries to use your crappy intel chip or whatever and then crashes. You will have to disable it and only use your dedicated graphics.

After Effects clone stamp tool cursor not appearing. It is not the caps lock. This is my first time using it.

After Effects 5.5 Clone Stamping Tool, running sluggish

I'm learning to use CS 5.5 and after effects and am currently editing a video to take out product numbers on different machines in the video. I've made it to about 20 seconds in my video but everytime I try to seek forward to make changes it takes forever and I see a status bar loading each time I switch Frames (it has to load each frame I seek through and there is over 2000 frames). At this rate it'll take forever just to edit a few product numbers out of a 1:20 (1min 20 sec) video.
I'm not sure if its just some settings I need to tweak or if I'm going about it the wrong way.
The machine I'm running is a hp z600 workstation with 2 xeon quad cores and 12 gbs of RAM with a 2gb video card, so I'm sure the PC isn't the issue.
Any feedback would be appreciated or any tips on editing would be greatly appreciated.

also, is there a way to only have the edited areas be visible for certain frames, as the parts in the video move, and once they move there is globs of color where I stamped over the product numbers

No offense, but you seriously need to learn AE's basics first. You're treating it like you were working in Photoshop or like an edit suite, depending on what you want it to be most for the moment, but none of that reflects actualyl what AE is - a compositing program. Let me clarify:

Yes, almost nothing in AE is realtime. That's why people need to create RAM previews for realtime playback. Perfectly normal and in your case you are probably complicating the situation by using compressed formats where in order to show a given frame, several additional frames before and after need to be decoded. Fuirthermore, you may simply work off a slow drive.

Yes, you split and duplicate layers. pelase refer to the online help for basic procedures on layer management

After Effects error: Zero denominator in relation multiplication

I don't know what now to do. I got this error ago 30 minutes.
Render doesn't work. If i press ctrl(strg) + M, then is comming this error. I want only render, this file.
I'm using Windows 7 - 4 GB RAM, AMD Processor and ATI(AMD) Grahpic card. I'm using the newest version from After Effects CC Version 12.2.0.52 . There is no updates or something. I'm using the Creative Cloud.

Ohne genaue Rendersettings wird das nix. AVI ist nur ein Containerformat und so, woe's ist, nützt uns das nix. Außerdem müßte man schon mal die Comp settings wissen, welche Quellmaterialien verwendet wurden, welche Effekt usw.. Solche Mathe-Fehler sind fast immer entweder beschädigte Ausgangsdateien oder irgendein Effekt, der durchdreht...

Can you Install after effects on multiple systems?

i have an editing group and we all have saved up to get after effects cs3 pro but now were afraid only one of us can use it.
is it illegal or something to try to install it on like 4 computers or is it ok? because i dont want to buy it 4 times since we have low budget and i dont wanna get in trouble so im asking the people here

Creative Cloud allows licensing in two machines at the same time. They can be any OS so you can have one Mac and one Windows version running at the same time.
If you purchase a perpetual license I believe it is OS specific, however Adobe has allowed cross platform transfers at no charge for as long as I remember. You just can't run your two versions on different platforms at the same time. I think this is still the same because the serial numbers for my CS6 licenses for Windows are different than the serial numbers for Mac.
If I'm wrong about the perpetual license I'm sure Todd or another Adobe employee will step in and clear things up.
