Multiple Desktops when remote login?

Hi, is there a way that I can remotly login with two different users and have each one an own GUI desktop?

Sounds like you want Terminal Services.

I think that it is still early days for Terminal Services on Mac but take a look it might be able to do what you need.

  • I use multiple desktops when running my MBP. Is there any way to set each one up so that it has its own rotating background?

I thought I had it figured out but when I slide over to another desktop it goes to the pic of Yosemite. So far I am only able to make one desktop rotate. Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My apologies you are right. If you have one desktop switching and the make another desktop also switch then the first desktop does go back to the default.
However if I then go back to the original desktop and make it switch again this time it sticks and I have two desktops switching. In fact at that point any new desktop I add I can make switch and they all stick.

  • Yosemite - Unable to access desktop when Remote Desktop app is connected to an RDP session

Since updating to Yosemite, after connecting full screen to any server you cannot get back to desktop as it seems the RDP session takes over the primary desktop and scrolling further left on the trackpad takes you to the Yosemite dashboard and you cannot
    get to the desktop.
This happens since the beta and is still an issue using the released version. When will this be fixed??

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially please update MRD MAC to v8.0.9. From description it seems that issue related to MAC side compatibility issue, so suggest you to contact apple customer care and clarify for further research.

    Hey sunnyday7!
Here is an article that can help you address this issue:

  • Multiple Copys of Remote Desktop Interface

Ok here is my problem, where I work we are using 27 mac minis and 4 mac book pros. Each MacBook pro has apple remote desktop 3 on them. We use them to activate video recording software on all of our minis. The problem I am running into is that if I have remote desktop open on the other MacBook Pros I cannot access them from the MacBook Pro Im operating. Is there a security setting that would allow communication between multiple copies of Remote Desktop or Will I have activate one copy at a time.
    Thanks

Is this the same licensed copy of ARD on all 4 of the laptops, or 4 different licenses?

  • What is the best way to remotely login to another Mac?

My mother & I recently decided to take the plunge from the PC world to Apple world.  I have an MBP w/ OS X 10.8.2, and she has the same w/o the recent OS upgrade (10.7.?).  While we're both still at the bottom of the learning curve, I'm a little further ahead and am constantly running over to her place to trouble shoot/assist her with the transition.  I've been researching ways to remotely login to her computer and am now more confused than when I started.  Can anyone point me in the right direction?  I basically want to be able to login to her system and takeover as if I were on site.  And, while I don't know if my research, thus far, has brought me any closer to a solution, it has raised a few questions:
    1)  Do I simply want to go with 3rd party sofware like Logmein and will the free versions be sufficient or are they just trial offers?
    2)  Or is ARD my best option and am I right in assuming we'd each have to pony up the $80 for installs on both MBPs?
    3)  Some of the discussions talk about much more expensive ARD fees with multiple licenses.  Am I correct in assuming these are meant for network administrators and wouldn't be necessary for my purposes?
    4)  I noticed a free VCN version available from the App Store but came accross posts which seem to indicate possible security issues.  Are these valid concerns and does ARD address them?
    5)  Will I run into problems because we're using different OSs?
    6)  I attempted to follow instructions for an "ssh" remote login that I found by doing a search of 'remote login' under the Apple Support.  But when a password was requested, I didn't seem to be able to enter one into the command line.  Again, I'm new to Macs, but the cursor didn't move when I entered characters, so I was left wondering whether characters were being entered or whether this is Appple's '*****' feature used to guard passwords.  Either way, after 3 attempts, my efforts were repeatedly terminated.  Unfortunately, I'm not even sure I was entering a valid password as the article I'm referring to didn't specify how to set a password.  I used a VCN password I had set up under the Remote Management option in the Sharing utility under System Preferences.  I'm assuming this was the password they were looking for but couldn't be 100% sure as the instructions I followed were not related to "ssh" logins nor were they from Apple Suppot.  Anyway, is this "ssh" login worth pursuing and does it function independently or does it only work in conjuction with ARD?  If it is a stand alone solution, where can I go for better guidance?  The Apple Support link I used was:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH1112.
    7)  Being recovering Windows users, we both have MS Office for Mac 2011 which has MS's Remote Desktop Connection app.  But from reviewing a few posts, it looks like that comes with it's own set of issues.  It also kind of defeats the purpose as I'm trying to wien myself off of MS.  But if someone out there has experience and suggests this as the "ultimate" solution, I'm willing to listen.
I know I've babbled on quite a bit and I don't actually expect anyone to take the time to answer all of my questions.  But I'm hoping I might get a collective answer, and more importatnly, I'm really hoping to narrow the field and get generally guidance on the best Mac-to-Mac remote login solution.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi gregory,
It is a big subject, and the following article sets out various options.

  • Can't Set Remote Login OFF via Send Unix Command systemsetup

Trying to use the System Setup->Remote Login template in ARD to turn off Remote Login (SSH) in Sharing panel of System Preferences on Mac that is administered through Apple Remote Desktop.
In Apple Remote Desktop (ARD), I select the client machine, then choose "Send Unix Command..." from the "Manage" menu. In resultant window, I pick "System Setup->Remote Login (SSH) from the "Template" drop down box in the upper right. That populates the upper window with Unix commands. I edit/change the "on" to "off" and tell the dialog to Run command as User: root, then click on "Send" button.
Progress bar goes forever with no change.
I can turn off Remote Login via ARD by controlling each client machine via an ARD WINDOW, then navigating to the Sharing Preference pane, but that process is tedious when performing for multiple client Macs.
Strange, but I CAN use the "Send Unix Command..." outlined above to turn ON Remote Login, and get the status of Remote Login ("systemsetup -getremotelogin"). Just can't turn OFF Remote Login (quickly/efficiently).
man systemsetup suggests I need to write the command as "setremotelogin -f off" but that failed with an improper command syntax error.
    Thoughts?

It’s waiting for you to type a confirmation. If you run this command on the command line normally, you’ll see the message:
Do you really want to turn remote login off? If you do, you will lose this connection and can only turn it back on locally at the server (yes/no)?
    Use this command instead:
    systemsetup -f -setremotelogin off

  • Switching between multiple desktops while using VNC

    Hi All,
Encountering a minor inconvenience with switching between desktops while VNC-ing. I frequently telecommute and VNC into my work imac, which has parallels + windows 7 installed. My personal machine is a retina macbook pro, and both my macbook and the imac have the newest mavericks installed. I will frequently have multiple desktops open on my imac, but I find that when I am VNC-ing into the imac and then open up parallels in a full window that I am then unable to switch back to my other OS X desktops unless I completely shutdown my windows VM. Normally hotkeys works for me to switch between desktops (and still works when switching from OS X window to OS X window), but it just doesn't do the trick here. I know could just configure my imac so that parallels doesn't open up in full screen mode, which would solve the issue, but I feel like there's gotta be a way to switch desktops while VNC-ing! All tips appreciated!
    Thanks,
    KP

    Hi,
This is possible using access restrictions in Universe designer based on user login.
For eg. there is user A,B and C and three connections C1,C2 and C3.
In Manage access restrictions you have to create a three restrictions(R1,R2 and R3): one using C1,second C2 and third C3.
Apply these three restrictions to corresponding to the users. i.e. R1-->A,R2-->B and R3-->C.
So based on user login the instance will be used for same report.
In IDT , I think this can be done using Data Level Security, but the concept wil be same.
    Thanks

  • SGD VDI vCenter problem accessing multiple desktops simultaneously

    Hi,
I am using vCenter as a desktop provider and have created multiple flexible desktop pools in VDI. These desktops pools are then assigned to users in SGD. When accessing these desktops simultaneously through SGD either SGD or VDI gets confused and opens up the wrong desktop. When i open the first desktop from SGD it opens up the correct VM then when i open up another desktop (from a different pool) it opens up the desktop from my previous desktop pool. The name on the Java Window in which the desktop opens up corresponds to the name of the application pool i intend to open however the VM that I login to is from a different pool. I can verify from vCenter that the desktops in the various pools are correct.
Is it not possible to access multiple desktops from different pools simultaneously or is there something that is possibly setup incorrectly? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.
    The versions of SGD/VDI/VCenter are:
    SGD Version: 4.5; Build: 20091119205307
Virtual Desktop Infrastructure 3.2.1 (Build 11)
    vCenter Server 4.1.0 258902
    ESX Server 4.1.0 26047
    Thanks.

  • Administrative user can't access other accounts or delete remote login

I have the administrative user account on my iMac at home. My daughter can't remember the new password I assigned her and needs me to change it. When I log into system preferences/accounts, it shows that I am the administrative user. However, when I try to access her account or the Guest account on the computer they are gray and I can't select them. I can't add any new accounts or delete any existing ones either.
I also noticed that remote login SSH is turned on. I tried to uncheck that box multiple times but my iMac just freezes. I have to force quit system preferences.
Any ideas on how I fix this?

I enabled the root user. While now I can access the elements that were greyed out before, when I attempt to change something my Mac will freeze and just show the color wheel when I attempt to do something with the mouse. If I go up to the menu and pick Force Quit, the list shows System Preferences (the ap has stopped responding). I've shut system preferences with a force quit, rebooted several times and tried again but the same thing happens every time.
I also can't get it to read a disc so I can't even reboot from my Mac OS system disc to do an archive and reinstall. Does it sound like my system, hardware or both? Is it something that I bundle off my iMac to a Mac Genius to fix?
If this was a PC, I would swear that I had a virus.

  • Firefox in Multiple Desktop

I have implemented the multiple desk top MS feature which allows me to separate different activities such as banking from general work and allows upto 4 desktops each with a separate version of Internet Explorere. However I wanted to use Firefox and have up to 4 versions of this set up with different profiles- one for each desktop by using short cuts set up with name of profile and also -no-remote- on three of the profiles.
I can set up four versions of FF running one on each desktop and they will all do self initiated queries.
However if I try to activate a link to a web site from say a document I get messgae that FF already running whether it is of not for that desk top.
Also if I try to start the Default User it always says that it is already running even if there is no copy of FF running

I start one copy in first window with -no-remote and the other three with -no-remote.
However default FF seems to be running when all the others are shut down.
    My detail notes are below
    Multiple versions of Firefox
As I have implemented the multiple desktop feature of Windows see http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/cc817881 and this allows you to run multiple copies of Internet Explorer, but as Firefox is my preferred browser I wanted to be able to use that in any of the four virtual desktop.
Initially I had two profiles for Firefox default user and Default User.
I have changed the name on default user to fourth desktop and created three others first, second and third desktop.
I have set up now five short cuts which are set up with the name of the profile and also in three cases –no-respond
So for the first desktop I have
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "first user"
    for the second
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -P "second user" -no-remote
and similar for the third and fourth
    The fifth shortcut is
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" –P
and enables me to start any profile.
I can start and make enquiries on four versions of Firefox on the four desktops BUT if there is a link from a document or email an error message comes up saying Firefox is already running.
Another interesting thing is that even when all copies of Firefox are shut down and I try to start the default profile it says that it is already running.
