Yosemite - Unable to access desktop when Remote Desktop app is connected to an RDP session
Since updating to Yosemite, after connecting full screen to any server you cannot get back to desktop as it seems the RDP session takes over the primary desktop and scrolling further left on the trackpad takes you to the Yosemite dashboard and you cannot
get to the desktop.
This happens since the beta and is still an issue using the released version. When will this be fixed??
Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Initially please update MRD MAC to v8.0.9. From description it seems that issue related to MAC side compatibility issue, so suggest you to contact apple customer care and clarify for further research.
Thanks for your understanding and Support!

I have two domains. One is an account domain with a one way trust with the resource domain. Resource domain trusts the account domain and has a number of 2008R2 servers running within. I am experiencing severe logon delays
due to these servers being unable to access the server that hosts the user home folder specified directly on the user account profile tab from the account domain. When using my workstation in the actual account domain (corporate) I have no
problems.
Because of these network restrictions, I need to override the 2008R2's desire to access that user home folder location in the account domain.
So far the best thing I have found to try is Windows Components/remote desktop services/remote desktop session host/profile/Set Remote Desktop User Home Directory
The problem is that so far I have tried to configure this to point to both a local folder as well as a network path and it doesn't appear to be doing anything. Not seeing any errors in the app or system log either.
It is still trying to map the path in the account domain.
Any ideas?
Is there a better way to accomplish my goal? The servers in the resource domain will be Citrix servers and there will be a lot of users connecting from the account domain.
I tried this setting too, but it only seems to work on the 2012 machines in my Resource domain.
With the introduction of Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 there is now a new group policy setting called “Set user home folder” and is found under Computer Configuration > Policies > Administrative Templates > System > User Profiles
Help!Hi,
This might be due to permission problems. Please check whether the user accounts for whose home folder to be redirected have permissions in the shared folder specified in the server.

Hi,
I just upgraded to Mavricks and get this when I try to launch Remote Desktop:
The Remote Desktop administrator software does not match the installed client software version.
I tried removing the application and reinstalling it to no avail. Any suggestions?
Thanks.

Can iPhone remote start app be connected to general motors factory remote start
can iPhone remote start app be connected to general motors factory remote start

Scenario:
Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials
I purchased an SSL Cert from GoDaddy and I managed (after some challenges) to set up Anywhere access to use that new SSL Cert. I to rebooted the server and I am able to login to Anywhere Access vis https (using the SSL certificate) from PC, Mac and iOS.
So far so good.
The problem I am having is that when I click to launch a remote desktop connection to the server RDP connection wants to use the self signed SSL certificate of the server rather than the SSL Certificate I installed into Anywhere Access. As a result, I get
a security warning like this: "The identity of the remote computer cannot be verified. Do you want to connect anyway?"
The name in the certificate appears as ACME-SERVER.ACMEDOMAIN.local instead of the SSL Certificate I installed, which is
remote.acmedomain.com
If I lick to accept, RDP does work fine, it;s just using a self signed certificate. I want it to use the trusted certificate that I purchased and installed.
My guess is that there must be an additional step to tell Anywhere Access that when it generates the RDP session that it should use the cert? OR, is this just how it works?Because....
the server does not have a 'trusted' certificate assigned to it.
Only the RDP Gateway has the trusted certificate for the external name.
If you want to remove that error, you have to do one of the following:
Make sure your domain uses a public top level domaim, and get a public trusted certificate for your server.
So, something like,
server.domain.publicdomain.com
Or,
Install that certificate on your remote computer so it is trusted.

Windows XP see blank screen when remote desktop to Windows 7 with fast user switching disabled
All computers are in workgroup environment, no AD.
Windows 7 pro are configured with fast user switching mode disabled so that only one login session can run at a time. When a Windows 7 machine remote desktop to another Windows 7 machine, the remote desktop 'server' will give 30 seconds count-down for the
console logged in user to accept remote connection, or when timeout expires it kicks out the console logged in user. This is completely ok.
This become a problem when a Windows XP rd client try to remote desktop to these Windows 7 machines, Windows XP see a blank screen if the remote Windows 7 machine has a user logged in, as it is waiting for the user to log off first. This is not desirable
as our administrators want the console session to be logged out automatically if they (administrators) want to remote desktop in.
Is this a configuration problem? Is this a OS design, can't be changed?
Valuable skills are not learned, learned skills aren't valuable.Hi,
As I know, for RDP session in Windows 7, you don't need to configure the fast user switch option disabled. Windows 7 doesn’t support multiple Remote Desktop sessions by design, that means only one RDP session at a time.
I remote into my Windows 7 machine (which has a user logged in) from my XP machine, all work fine, the user logged in Windows 7 machine is automatically "kicked off".
May I ask a question? Does this issue happen in all XP machines? If you leave Windows 7 machine started and no user logged in, the RDP session in Windows XP established quickly?
I would suggest you keep latest drivers graphic card and latest updates paches for both Windows XP (Windows XP has come to its end of the lifecycle)and Windows 7.

Unable to select Certificate for Remote Desktop Connection
Hi,
I have created a certificate with below parameter in inf file through a local Standalone 2008 r2 CA & imported it into Computer personal certificate store but unable to see this certificate entry while trying to select it under Remote desktop connection.
Somewhere saw we should have the private key in personal certificate store but didn't get how/where to get that key. Is that the reason, m unable to select this certificate or there is something missing in the input parameter used in inf file. Kindly suggest
what could be the problem.

Problem is resolved now. i have done below two changes.
--> used KeyUsage=0xA0 in inf file.
--> imported certificate through certreq -accept. Earlier i was importing cert from mmc.
I think second point resolved my problem. i even didn't think that mmc & command can make this difference.

The question describs the question.
varjak paw,
Thanks for the insight. Sorry for the delayed response, I have not been on the computer since 17Mar13,
Background -- The tech specs for ARD3 at "http://www.apple.com/remotedesktop/specs.html" states "The administration and client system for Apple Remote Desktop 3 is designed to run on any computer running Mac OS X v10.4.11, Mac OS X v10.5.7 or later." So, I interpreted this as it would run on any of these systems, hence my question. I was trying to understand if there might be any conflicts if I installed it while both computers were at 10.6.8 (for the question I rounded to 10.7), if it made any difference if the OS differed on the two computers, and then updated AED after upgrade to 10.8. The extra background is that the two computers are 400 miles apart, hence the desire to use ARD. It is good to know that if ARD3 really will not run on the older systems, then I would not be able to purchase it (I'll probably take these steps tomorrow). -
Using the personal hotspot feature on the iPhone 5, I am able to connect to the internet. We also use Juniper NCP client to access our local system from a remote location. A VPN connection is created, but I am unable to access servers in our network. This same functionality works using my colleagues iPhone 4.
Both phones are running iOS 6.1.3. I tried to reset network settings, but still unable to ping servers in our network. This is a feature that our sales team relies heavily on when out of the office. Hoping someone has some suggestions on what is different between the 2 phones.Hi,
Generally, this issue should be related with something called split tunneling, since you’re using a F5 vpn client, you need to look for something related to split tunneling in the F5 VPN client's documentations.
Here is an example, share it with you as a reference.

Minimal requirements for remote client app to call a EJB 3 session bean
I'm just starting to get into EJBs, trying to learn the EJB 3 APIs. I kind of understand the setup on the server side to create a session bean. What I don't understand is what I would have to deploy for each of the remote client app (Swing-based GUI or something like that) installations. Of course, the client app code would have to be deployed to each client desktop, but what stuff related to the session bean? Just the session bean interface class?
For ease of discussion, let's say my bean is CalculatorBean, having two interfaces, CalculatorRemoteIface and CalculatorLocalIface. Let's also say my client app, CalculatorUI, is a simple Swing-based GUI that grabs a reference to a CalculatorBean.
Other than just the Swing-based classes and the JRE, what JARs/classes will I want to deploy to each desktop?
(Please assume the latest Sun Java System App Server 9 and Java EE 5, if you are familiar with them.)Personally- I would deploy your backend
in EJB 3.0, but then expose it as a web service. It
is MUCH easier for your clients to connect to a web
service (and mantain that code), then to have them
connect via RMI/JNDI.Oh, I would say it's quite the opposite. RMI/JNDI is MUCH easier from a client point of view than web services. To make web services work easy from the client side you have to generate code and the tools that generate code from a web services wsdl file doesn't do a great job today. But that was not the question. But take some time reading this article about webservices...it's quite funny and spot on: http://wanderingbarque.com/nonintersecting/2006/11/15/the-s-stands-for-simple
Now to your question, yes you will need the remote interface on the client side.

Access denied when using Desktop-API
Hi to all,
I have a client app that is launched using JWS. In my JNLP file I declared:
<security>
<j2ee-application-client-permissions/>
</security>
and all jar-files are signed with the same certificate. This is working fine, but when I try to use the Desktop-API to open a folder on clients machine
Desktop.getDesktop().open(new File("/path/to/dir"));
it gives me
java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission <<ALL FILES>> execute)
at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source)
at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(Unknown Source)
at java.awt.Desktop.checkExec(Unknown Source)
at java.awt.Desktop.open(Unknown Source)
I even tried with
<security>
<all-permissions/>
</security>
in JNLP. But it gives me the same Exception. I also tried to use a PrivilegedAction to make SecurityManager not check permissions, but it didn't help. At last thought about having my own policy-file. But I don't know how to tell the JWS app to use it.
Thanks for help in advance
ChristianHi to all,
Deleting the cache works fine. But only for one start.
I found the JNLP in the cache has been automatically updated with the line
<update check="timeout" policy="always"/>
I thought this could be the problem, because if may be the SecurityManager finds JNLP in the cache being different from that one on the server, it "thinks" it has been hacked?
To avoid this difference, I added the line right from the beginning, but that didn't help.
BTW I signed all my jars, but the JNLP-File is just provided in the working dir of the app unsigned. Somewhere I read about JNLP-Files also signed. May be I have to sign it, too, or is it possible to have it packed in my application jar (then it will be signed with it)?
Thank for any hints

Remote access without Apple Remote Desktop
I want to remotely access an i-Mac, at work (which is on a network) from home using a Mac Pro (ISP - Comcast). I was able to use my Mac Pro to access a PC on this same network using a Windows remote access program which was downloaded/free. I've now switched to an i-Mac at work.
I would rather not spend $300 to accomplish this. Is there another way using either free or less expensive software to access my workplace i-Mac?
I do have a copy of Parallels Desktop 4.0 for Mac if I need to run Windows programs on either the Mac Pro or i-Mac.Dave, Thanks for the information. We'll give it a try. We have a IT guy here at work, as needed. However, he's not familiar with Macs and uses exclusively PCs. He may not be as much help as I would like in solving this problem. If "Push comes to shove," I could probably remotely log onto a PC which isn't in my workspace . . . one of the "community" ones. That would solve the issue with the scheduling software, at least. (Which is, of course, PC based.)
That would leave my personal Word and Excel files on my i-Mac for the screen sharing feature of Mac OS X 10.6.
