Multiple examples of photos jumping to other Events, disappearing completely, and jumping to iPad out of iPhoto

I had almost 1000 rendom photos jump into iPad and OUT OF iPhoto six months ago.  After numerous one-to-one helpers, one person was able to extricate them into a file in "Pictures" on my MacBook Pro.  (First, I had to go through every photo and match with iPhoto to see which ones were missing!  Hours of work.)  They still remain in a file in Pictures, but the event in iPhoto that I made for them worked for awhile but now is transformed into a file of a different event with its pictures repeated about a dozen times.
I tried to create an album today out of a specific event and several of the pictures disappeared in the process, both in the Event and in the Album.  A bit later, the Album is empty and the Event contains the reduced number along with some other pictures from an unrelated Event.  I also have a couple of folders that show only a grey image of a palm tree as the cover picture and it says there are zero pictures, but in fact there are pictures inside.  Choosing a different Key Photo doesnt' work.  Merging some with another Event did not work and the pictures disappeared.
In the meantime, the number of photos that is shown has changed and it tells me that there are 16 photos hidden - where??
I do have a very large number of photos (28,000) ... too many?  My machine is four years old with expanded memory and storage.
     Any ideas?

1.
I know - it's impossible but it happened.  Of probably 5or 6 different people at Apple, including Genius bar folks, no one had an answer
2.
It's 9.4.3 iPhoto 11
3.
I moved the 33 pictures in my EVENT into the new ALBUM.  From the ALBUM I proceeded to select the ones I wanted and "remove from album" the ones I didn't want.  (This is a process I have followed many times to get the pictures I wanted for albums on my website.  I upload from the album.)  This process was not complete when I discovered the problem of lost pictures that I can find nowhere.  Eleven of them are gone from the original EVENT (replaced by pictures from a completely unrelated EVENT) and the ALBUM is now empty.
4.
Yes, EVENTS is what I meant.  This problem is not understandable and is a puzzle for the person I most recently talked to at Apple store.  She suggested that I copy the pictures and then make another EVENT.  As an alternative, I didn't copy them first, but then I "merged" them with the EVENT where they belonged - it didn't work and they were lost.
5.
I have checked this option - however I see no change.  Where should I be looking for the photos???  Maybe I don't know where to look.
6.
Well, at least that's good news!  Thank you!
Thank you much for taking the time to consider my questions.  I have spent a great deal of time and energy with my photos, learning at the Apple store employees over 4 years, primarily with 1 to 1 seesion about all the details, and am very familiar with iPhoto.  But with the latest problems, I am baffled.  I thank anyone who can help

i am sorry, i am new to mac plis

I would certainly back up everything to an external drive, preferable a bootable clone using CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper! before installing Lion.
You shouldn't have to reinstall yopur apps though.

  • How do I download video to my MacBook Pro (10.9.5) or email, that I filmed on my iphone4. I can see them on my phone under photo stream, but I cannot send them and I cannot see them in iphoto on my laptop.

I filmed a short video on my iphone4 and saved it on icloud. However, even though I see it on photo stream on my phone, it does not give the option to download or the email. In addition, I can not see the video in iphoto on my laptop. (MacBook Pro 10.9.5). How do I access this video and share it?

Here is an app that works.http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201302

  • Other event images flash up when scrolling through an event

When I am scrolling down though photos in an event the row of images below are not images from that event! For a split second other photos flash up from another event. The most confusing part is when I have clicked on a specific photo to enlarge it the mini scroll bar of images at the bottom of the enlarged photo are those 'other' event photos.
For example: I was looking at family photos of Stonehenge, as I scroll down to see more Stonehenge in a split second photos of Paris flash up. When I click on my son at Stonehenge the images on the bottom of the screen are all of Paris, not Stonehenge.
Is my iphoto corrupt? Do I have too many photos in my iphot library and it is getting "confused" trying to process all those images? or what?
    Thank you

You need to launch iPhoto with the Option+Command keys held down and rebuild the library's thumbnails.  It may take several runs.

  • How do I backup my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and keep my photos grouped by their events?

How can I backup my iPhoto Library to an external hard drive and keep my photos grouped by their events?

I have attempted to make sure my iPhoto library has been backed up on the external hard drive and that it is safe to delete some events from my internal hard drive
You need to think this through.
Time Machine is a back up application. It keeps a rolling back up of the data. It's called rolling because it means you can revert to the data you had on a specific date and time. But that's not eternal, and as time goes by, and your drive fills up, older backups are deleted. So if you delete Events on your Mac they will - eventually - also be deleted from the Time Machine back up.
If you wan tot archive data hendon't use Time Machine for that job. Here's how you might archive an iPhoto Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
Now you have two full versions of the Library.
    3. On the Internal library, trash the Events you don't want there
Now you have a full copy of the Library on the External and a smaller subset on the Internal
    Some Notes:
As a general rule: when deleting photos do them in batches of about 100 at a time. iPhoto can baulk at trashing large numbers at one go.
You can choose which Library to open: Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
You can keep the Library on the external updated with new imports using iPhoto Library Manager

  • Iphoto 09 losing whole events and taking pics from other events

I have just encountered a very very annoying problem with iphoto09.
i added a ton of new pics yesterday and put them in to 2 events.
i then made a few smart albums so that i could sync them to my iphone.
after doing this. one event dissapeared completely and on my iphone put random pics from other events in its place and the other only kept one pic and also put random pics in.
i managed to locate one of the events which says it has 72 pics in but actually only has 1. i did a batch change of date and the event reappeared but with only the 1 pic plus 71 random pics from other events, which have now dissapeared.
This is really annoying. does anyone have any idea what happened?

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Error Disables All Other Events

I am using a property node for my STOP button to trigger an event within an event.  Everything was working fine when I just threw it together; added error handling and cleaned stuff up it no longer worked.  The symptom was my event within the first event never seemed to fire.
I broke it down to simple stuff and I found out what causes this but I do not know why ... as usual.  Apparently, when I run an error cluster through my property node AND I trap an error (simulated by me toggling the boolean to T as in the screencap) no other events work except the one currently running, which happens to be the Application Timeout event.  If no errors, I can fire events within events all day long.
No other events except timeout and "stop -> value change" in my little sample VI.  My workaround was to avoid running the error cluster through the property node.
    Solved!

Nodes typically will not execute if error in is true. There are exceptions such as closing references. The LabVIEW help will tell you if the node executes normally when error in is true. The property node will not execute since you forced an error into it.
Try out user events. Sure there is a lot more wires involved. But you can use Action Engines to store references and hide the creation, registration, unregistration and destruction of the user events.
Timeout will continue executing. The loop has a false wired to the stop if true terminal. You have to wire a -1 to the timeout terminal to stop it from executing.
Here is something that I think does what you are trying to do. Study it with the context help open and highlight execution turned on. (Also attached for LV8.2)

  • Horrors: How do I get all my original photo files back out of iPhoto 9.1.2?

In my heart I KNEW I should never have upgraded iPhoto when the update came in for 9.1.2. But I had no idea what it was going to do. Now, to my horror, I have found out.
It has EATEN all the original photo files in my Home/Pictures folder and hidden them inside a single iPhoto database! Yikes.
I discovered this nightmare when I tried to find the original hi-res of a certain photo, and searched my Mac for it by filename – the one assigned to it by my camera.
All the original and modified versions of the file should have appeared in the search box – but no original appeared, sending me into a total panic. I also searched my laptop and back-up drive to no avail. Then I looked in the Home/Pictures folder and there were no photo files there, when there used to be hundreds. Just one single iPhoto Library file.
I felt sick, I thought I had lost all my original photos.
So now I have two problems, and questions:
    1) iPhoto only displays photos from the last 18 months, so how do you access all the photos from years back now?
    2) How can I export ALL my photos back out of the iPhoto database so I can have them where I can see them on my Mac again – as individual files in my Pictures folder like they were before?
    Oh, and one other question:
What can I use instead of iPhoto? Can I revert to an earlier version? Or is there an application that I can import photos to that will leave the original files where they are? Then I can make a back-up of the originals before importing them into iPhoto.
    Thanks,
    Sarah
PS: How do I change my Apple Discussions username?

There's no reason to use the Finder to access your photos. That's what iPhoto is for.  THe following is from a post by Terence Devlin on accessing photos for use outside of iPhoto.  It's the definitive treatise on the subject.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
There's a similar option in Outlook and many, many other apps.
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation   which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and 10.5
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3.Show File:
    a. On iPhoto 09 and earlier:  Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    b. On iPhoto 11 and later: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Reveal in Finder -> Original. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.

  • Calendar disappeared! Last week I updated to IOS7. Today as the clocks ticked over in Australia to 2014 my contacts and calendar events disappeared. Help!

Please help. With the beginning of 2014, my calendar events disappeared. I turned the iPad off, the. On again and repeat events reappeared, but all once off events/ appointments are gone! Everything was there before midnight, but I discovered around 2am, 1.1.14 that everything was gone. Bug? Help! Please.

Are your contacts stored in an MS Exchange server, in iCloud, or some other source? Setting the Sync to less than All Events should not delete events, but only stop showing them on your device. However, Outlook also has a setting to actually delete events older than a certain date. Have you checked that?
If you log in to iCloud.com (and you are syncing with iCloud) what do you see? Whatever is there is all you can get on the iPhone, unless you can restore from another source.
I also suggest enabling iCloud Backup (settings/icloud - Storage and Backup). This will create a new backup any time your phone is connected to power and WiFi, so you will always have a current backup, painlessly.

  • Help!! My calendar events disappeared!! D=

My calendar, contacts, and notes had been only stored on my iPhone, so I decided to sync them with Outlook so that I could restore them if I lost them on my iPhone. While my contacts and notes synced perfectly fine, my calendar events disappeared completely from my iPhone and did not appear in Outlook either. Everything is correctly checked to sync on the info tab. Please help soon! This was the only place I had my calendar stored and I need it back!!!

I just had this happen as well and have found many threads on this issue. Do a search. I don't use outlook but I know I read other people who do. I'm using iCal. I found this link but not sure it would help you.
