Multiple ipods and logins on one PC, want different itunes libraries

I have searched this forum and posted a similar question before but have yet to get an answer (after 2 years). Maybe I'll have better luck this time. I'll try to be as explicit as possible in my description.
This is what I want to be able to do:
*Goal 1*: to log into my account and NOT have my daughter's Miley Cirrus or Taylor Swift songs on my ipod or in my Library (seems like a reasonable request)
Goal 2: to have iTunes open in my login with my iTunes Store account when I am in my Windows User Account, and for iTunes to open my daughters iTunes Store account when she is using her Windows User Account.
In other words, respecting the Windows log in and NOT sharing files across them. Another way to describe the end state is that the experience would be similar to having 2 individual computers with separate iTunes Accounts and Libraries.
Please *do not respond with this solution*, it only shows how to establish the Windows accounts, which I already have (4 user accounts). It's not a complete solution: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1495

Thanks Chris, I will try the settings related to folders when I get on that machine later today. I will be thrilled if this works, and it sounds like it will work because I'm directing iTunes to a specific location for my music.
Don't change it yet. Just see what it is set to and post back.
Simply changing it will only tell iTunes where to store music from now on. It won't cahnge the location of any files now and will not change the iTunes library folder location. If everyone is using the same iTunes library files (as it sounds), then nothing will get corrected.
Check and see if each user has their own \Music\iTunes\ folder and this is where everything is kept by default.
Is there an iTunes library.itl file and are there music files in \iTunes\\Music\ folder?
In your case, the location of the iTunes library files and the iTunes media folder must have been must have been changed to the Shared folder.
When you say a "new user login" are you talking about a Windows User account or something in iTunes?
Yes.
"*Method One*
If you share your computer with other people, you can maintain separate user accounts for each person who uses the computer. This is useful especially if each user has different tastes in music; users can maintain separate, personalized iTunes music libraries and can customize their iPods accordingly."
I had individual Windows User accounts set up, and the first time we opened iTunes in the other account it pulled all the music from MY user account. (that's a programming no-no ).
YEs it is a no-no and I have never seen or heard of iTunes doing this.

  • Tips needed for multiple iPods and users with one PC...

We are a family of four, with four iPods and one PC. We have two (Windows) user accounts set up. My husband and son share one, and my daughter and I use the other. My husband's and son's music does not show up in my user library and visa-versa. There are some songs that my husband has purchased that I would like on my iPod, but there are songs that my daughter has that I DON'T want on my iPod. Is there a way to set up 4 separate librarys that can choose to share (or not share) songs?
      Windows XP

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account or
    b) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page:
Loading songs onto iPod shuffle - Windows
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:
    Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
    Separate User Accounts
Another option (which you've already tried) is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • Multiple iPods and users on one computer and constant dialogs....

Everyone in my family has an iPod (total of 5) and we each have logins with our own iTunes accounts. This works very well except for the following. Each time someone logins in (or user switches) when an iPod that is not theirs is plugged in, they get a dialog telling them so, and requests one of three answers. This is anoying, and when my 7yo clicks on the wrong button it wipes out what his brother or sister or Mother or I have on our iPods... We can get the stuff back of course but it's a PITA!
Is there any way to have iTunes completely ignore iPods that are not synched to it! I would prefer to not even have it show up in iTunes or on the desktop. Although this would be exceptable over what i have now.

"Is there any way to have iTunes completely ignore iPods that are not synched to it!"
No there's not, iTunes will always give you a message if you sync to a "foreign" library. However, you can set the iPods up so that iTunes doesn't open when they are connected. Connect the iPod and when it shows in iTunes click on the icon to bring up the preference tabs. In the Summary tab uncheck "Open iTunes when this iPod is connected". You have to do this for each of your iPods in turn.

  • HT202213 Home sharing.  Multiple ipods and more than one user..... Do they all need seperate accounts?

I have set my kids ipods up on home sharing.  Now when their games on each personal ipod, they are the same user.  Is there any way of changing this?  Or do I have to make each kid a seperate account and buy all of these games twice?

It doesn't look like anybody had any answers for me, but its no big deal as I solved it myself. The problem was dependent on the WebLogic's implementation of their security context and hence there probably isn't a generic solution. It turns out that WebLogic can associate a user object with each thread. If a thread does not have a user object associated with it, it uses the default user which is assigned the first time a user signs in. The problem was that the application thread was used to initially sign in, but the awt event thread was used to access the ejb. Since the awt thread had no context it would use the default.
    If anyone wants to know more about the exact solution you can email me at r k e n w o r t h y@h o t m a i l . c o m (pardon the spaces - hopefully they will avoid extra spam going to my account).

You could use the update option "automatically update selected playlists only" would allow you to create a playlist specifically for each iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used by the other iPods. Make your playlist a Smart playlist and limit the size to just below the advertised capacity of your iPod ( for example, around 3700MB for a 4GB or 1800MB for a 2GB Mini or Nano). You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
    To select the update option.
    iTunes 6
Connect your iPod to your computer and when it appears in the Source list go to Edit>iTunes>Music Tab (iTunes>Preferences>Music tab on a Mac).
Automatically update selected playlists only. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer.
    iTunes 7
Connect your iPod to your computer and when it appears in the Source list click on it to show the preference tabs in the main pane. Choose the following option and click "Apply".
Sync Music - Selected playlists. With this option, iTunes automatically copies the playlists you have selected to the iPod when you connect it to the computer. You'll find this in the Music Tab.

I don't want them there anymore because i don't like that kind of music anymore and i don't know how to get them to go away.

There is a similar setting for Videos on that Settings screen, so if you leave that 'on' you may have similar happening in the Videos app

    Hi,

    Thanks!

Yes, the operation will be in a single transaction, assuming you are using a JTA managed SessionBean and the code is part of a SessionBean method.

My Ipod was originally set up as a sub-account of a firends.  After that, I got an Iphone and set up my own Apple account.  I just got a new Ipod, and now can't sync my old Itunes to it. Can anyone help me? I'm even OK with deleting the old Itunes account, and staring over.  I just really want to get the new Ipod under my own account, and be able to use it...

There is no such thing as a "sub-account."  Also, you probably mean iTunes library, when you say "account."  Your "account" in iTunes is your Apple ID, which is what you use to sign in to the iTunes Store to make purchases.  iPods are associated with an iTunes library, not with an Apple ID (iTunes Store account).  You'll need to clarify...
So, this is what I think you are saying.  You previously shared an iTunes library on a computer with your friend.  Your old iPod was synced to that iTunes library.
You got an iPhone, and at that time, you set up your own iTunes library.  Is that on a different computer?  How does the iPhone affect your question about the iPod?
You got a new iPod.  What is your "old iTunes"?  Is that the iTunes library you shared with your friend?

Maybe you have multiple accounts that's why your purchase history is empty. You can try checking for possible Apple IDs that's existing for you or you can ask for assistance from support.

There is no playlist for iBooks, butther eis nothing to preent you from choosing to download specific titles from itunes, or syncing just specific titles to an individual device.
