Multiple members in dimension

Hello experts,
As I am new to BPC, I am still learning the lingo whle trying o develop a template for some analysis.
I want to be able to pull multiple GL_Accounts where GL_Account is one of my dimensions.  The hierarchy that was created has the individual gl accounts seperated into different hierarchies and I don't know how to select a a few glaccounts from one hierarchy and one or two gl accounts from another one.  I want to be able to pull it into one vlaue rather than pulling them in separately and then doing math in excel to arrive at the one value.  Is there a way to tell the dimension that I want to sum together the different GL_Account values and report only one value?
I hope this makes sense.  I'll take your thoughts.
AVaidya

I'm sure there is a way to get this done.
Here is what i would do.
Let's get some information first, the accounts you are trying to add have the same parent? if so, all you need to do is select the parent member on the memeber selector and use BAS(),SELF on your EVDRE memberset for the GL_Account expanssion. And to make it more interesting you can add SUMPARENT on your optionrange.
If it's harder than that, you need to add specific accounts that have diferent parents. (I don't see how that's usable if you gonna let the user change the member select). But if so, you can use the after range to add that specific accounts. For that you can use procv or h to find the value of the accounts you want and add them.
Here is a usefull tip, if you need to get accounts related with the one selected in the current views you can use =EVCVW(EVAPP();"GL_Account") combined with the EVEXP function.
I'm sure you can do this =D

  • Display aggregate total for multiple members of a dimension.

When multiple members of a dimension are selected in a row or column in Financial Reporting tool, it tends to display the result in multiple rows or columns. Is it possible to display the aggregate value of all the members and not display the individual details. I have tried the Auto Calculation which shows the "Total" but also shows the Individual members that were selected in multiple rows or columns. Any suggestions would be great.
    Ajay.

Brian, I will post all my future questions in the Reporting Forum as you suggested. Coming back to my question, I do not want to display all the Individual members that I had selected in the report. I only need the aggregate value (Custom Totals) of all the Dimension members together.
eg: If I choose the following account members in one row (Salaries, Bonus, Advertising), I do not want to display the individual line items for the three members, I only need one row called "Expenses" that has the aggregate value for the three members. Essbase by default (even if I don't select "place selections in separate columns" ) will put the members in separate rows or columns.
    Thanks.

  • BPC for Excel - All Members in Dimension

    Hi,
I'm currently working in BPC 7.0 for NW and I have created a report in BPC Excel.
I want to select all members in a dimension - but the function is greyed out in the selection screen.
I tried looking for error in service marketplace - without any luck.
    Anyone come across this before?
    Br,
    Sonni

    Hi Sonni,
When you are selecting members from the CV, you cannot select multiple members. You can select only single member at a time from CV.
To get all the members in the report, you need to use the expansion options available, depending on whether you are using evexp or evdre.
    Hope this helps.

  • Multiple members with same alias

I have multiple members with same alias name. Are there anyway to build dimension members with same alias name?

Typically I will concatinate the member name (as either a prefix or suffix ) to the Alias to make it unique

  • Multiple members for single user variable???

    Hi,
Can I select multiple members or a hierarchy for a single user variable?
My requirement is to use a dimension which consist of more than 100 members but the user will not enter data for 100 members
at the same time so I want to give user an option to select the members for which he wants to enter data.
I was thinking of using user variable but it is allowing me to select only one member for user variable created for that dimension,
that means if he has to enter data for 10 members he has to change that variable 10 times or I have to use 10 different user variable for that dimension.
what if any user wants 20 members, at that time I have only 10 user variables.
    Please help..
    Thanks in advance..

    Hi,
Can I select multiple members or a hierarchy for a single user variable? Are the required members descendants of any particular member(hierarchy )?
If so, you can use IDescendants<user variable> in the form's page. And you can also use dynamic user variable option.

  • Cannot add multiple members of a failover cluster to a DFSR replication group

Server 2012 RTM. I have two physical servers, in two separate data centers 35 miles apart, with a GbE link over metro fibre between them. Both have a large (10TB+) local RAID storage arrays, but given the physical separation there is no physical shared storage.
The hosts need to be in a Windows failover cluster (WSFC), so that I can run high-availability VMs and SQL Availability Groups across these two hosts for HA and DR. VM and SQL app data storage is using a SOFS (scale out file server) network share on separate
    servers.
I need to be able to use DFSR to replicate multi-TB user data file folders between the two local storage arrays on these two hosts for HA and DR. But when I try to add the second server to a DFSR replication group, I get the error:
The specified member is part of a failover cluster that is already a member of the replication group. You cannot add multiple members for the same cluster to a replication group.
I'm not clear why this has to be a restriction. I need to be able to replicate files somehow for HA & DR of the 10TB+ of file storage. I can't use a clustered file server for file storage, as I don't have any shared storage on these two servers. Likewise
I can't run a HA single DFSR target for the same reason (no shared storage) - and in any case, this doesn't solve the problem of replicating files between the two hosts for HA & DR. DFSR is the solution for replicating files storage across servers with
    non-shared storage.
Why would there be a restriction against using DFSR between multiple hosts in a cluster, so long as you are not trying to replicate folders in a shared storage target accessible to both hosts (which would obviously be a problem)? So long as you are not replicating
folders in c:\ClusterStorage, there should be no conflict.
Is there a workaround or alternative solution?

Yes, I read that series. But it doesn't address the issue. The article is about making a DFSR target highly available. That won't help me here.
I need to be able to use DFSR to replicate files between two different servers, with those servers being in a WSFC for the purpose of providing other clustered services (Hyper-V, SQL availability groups, etc.). DFSR should not interfere with this, but it
is being blocked between nodes in the same WSFC for a reason that is not clear to me.
This is a valid use case and I can't see an alternative solution in the case where you only have two physical servers. Windows needs to be able to provide HA, DR, and replication of everything - VMs, SQL, and file folders. But it seems that this artificial
barrier is causing us to need to choose either clustered services or DFSR between nodes. But I can't see any rationale to block DFSR between cluster nodes - especially those without shared storage.
Perhaps this blanket block should be changed to a more selective block at the DFSR folder level, not the node level.

  • Problem in Aggregate with Multiple level of dimension

    Hi,
I have a BI repository with a snowflake schema. I have also designed the business model with snowflake, It works with drilling and all but I am facing problem when I am
creating  a logical column aggregating with a higher level of dimentation. Let me illustrate that :
I have the Following Hierarchy :
Tournament(id, Name) ---- > Round (id, name, tournament_id) -------> Match (id, Name, RoundId ) |  Match is fact table and other 2 dimension.
I also created a logical dimension called tournament with 3 levels.
Now say I want to create a logical column Total Number of Matches , aggregating  to the dimension level of Tournament. The result gives counts a 0 for every tournament. However
it is working perfectly when the dimension level is Round (which is the immediate next level after fact).
The Logical request generated (in case of Tournament level) :
       MatchId:[DAggr(Measure1.MATCHID by [ Matches$.TournamentId]  SB Tournament)] as c1 GB.
There is no such column as TournamentId in Matches$ table. How does the BI server got this ?
       The execution plan  evaluate this:
cast(NULL as  INTEGER )  as c1 GB [for database 0:0,1]
Can someone please explain why is this happening, is it because of the snowflake schema, but I guess if BI server can handle a snowflake schema it should work the Aggregate
properly in multiple levels of dimensions, or it is something I am doing wrong.
       Execution Environment:
Windows XP ,  OBI 10g on OC4J.  Data source : MS Excel (ODBC 3.5)

    Hi,
    With reference to your question.
Can any operator perform this task..I don't think any single operator will help you.
I suggest using an intermediate (staging) table by using a PL SQL procedure with output port to store the values of account number provided the number of accounts are limited. Else use an array variable for account of an employee.
In short no simple solution because of the bad source design else the pivot/unpivot operator would have helped you.

  • Setting "Aggregation For Plan" for Scenario members in  Dimension Library

In the Dimension Library, I have a Scenario which has two members (B and C) which roll up to a parent member (A). Unlike the other types of dimensions, I am unable set the Aggregation as the properties (Aggregation for Plan 1, Aggregation for Plan 2, Aggregation for Plan 3) are not available under the Planning category.
If I view the outline in EAS, I am able to modify the aggregation for the A and B members directly but I'm unsure as to what impact this would have on the planning application.
Any ideas why the properties aren't available? The BPMA Administrators guide seems to suggest I should be able to do this.
Can I go ahead and modify the members direct in EAS?
    Cheers.

I did take a look at the custom dimension and it's members with their storage properties both in DEV and PROD and there were NO Dynamic/Label Only members. Checked the relational database as well and it too showed that there were no members with Dynamic/Label Only storage properties in the custom dimension.
To my surprise this morning, when I checked the numbers in EAS the two columns had the same numbers. It looks like its fixed now as the IMPLIED_SHARE setting took effect and both the "Members in Dimension" = "Members Stored".
I noticed that the server team had stopped and started all the server again yesterday night sometime in DEV so maybe that's when the setting actually took affect and for some reason it didnt take affect the first time they restarted the servers Or maybe because I refreshed the database again from workspace this morning. I am not sure which one fixed it.
Thanks Celvin for your time and inputs.

  • [Target] - Partition definition is not valid: [Cell count mismatch: [1814427] area for slice [1] members per dimension [67 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 51 531 ]]

    Hello Everyone,
I am receiving the error : [Target] - Partition definition is not valid: [Cell count mismatch: [1814427] area for slice [1] members per dimension [67 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 51 531 ]] when trying to validate my transparent partition.
Because of some issues the data is not getting reflected at the target database.
    Please suggest some solution.
    Thanks in advance.

I would exercise the following steps
1.Copy the original partition script in a notepad
2.Open one source outline and target outline applications in EAS Console in vertical mode.
3.Check the partition members coming from both source  to Target application are in sync, by checking the source members and target members in the respective cubes ,if  any new member got added in your source partition intersection then you need the member in the target too,if they are not ,then cell count mismatch will occur.
4.Since its a transparent partition target the shared transparent areas of the data source and data target outlines need not be identical. The dimensions and member in the data source maps to each dimension and member in the data target. You need to define the definition of mapping
5.Create partition either using maxl or using create partition in EAS .
In your case 1 partitions has the cell mismatch counts ,since you are able to retrieve the data for 3 partitions in the target applications

  • User has no write access to the selected members of dimension : CATEGORY

    Hello,
    Here is the Scenario:
I have a script called DAllocate.lgf in an app - Costing. Now I need to run that app from another app called Reporting. I know that Runlogic wont work in my case because in the Dallocate.lgf there are some Runlogic commands being used. and when Runlogic is being used to call a logic that has runlogics in it, it wont work. So what I hae done is in the SSIS package in the reporting app, I have added a logic task to an existing package and specified DAllocate.lgf with the app name costing.
    Here is the issue:
When I run an SSIS package in costing app called Dallocate(which basically runs dallocate.lgf), it runs successfully. But If I run a package called PtoCA in Reporting that has Dallocate.lgf as a logic task, it gives the following error:
"user has no write access to the selected members of dimension : CATEGORY "
    Thanks.

    Hi,
From your explanation it is clear that Dallocate.LGF has been run successfully in one of the logics. This means the issue is not in the Dallocate.LGF. The issue is in some other logic of the same DM package.
First, check which logic part faces this issue. Based on your explanation, definitely not in Dallocate.LGF.
Then, check how that particular Catergory dimension member which the user does not have access for, came into the logic calculation. Somewhere in the calculation, it is posting a value in the unauthorized member.

  • Rsrv: Multiple Entries in Dimensions of a (Basis) InfoCube

    Hi,
we run the report "Multiple Entries in Dimensions of a (Basis) InfoCube" with transaction rsrv and got the following message: "Warning: Dimension ZBA_ED_72: DIMID 10 and 9 have same characteristic values".
When we use the repair function and delete one of those entries, the message dissapears.
We are not sure if there are any other negative effects which we have to consider.
Can anybody advise if the process is okay and how the multiple entries occured?
Thank you in advance for your assistance,
    regards,
    Sigrun

As I remember I got the error message:
Characteristic attribute exists twice with DBMAN 231
    So I ran se38 pgm:
RSCDS_MERGE_DUPL_REF_POINTS, putting in the cube like 0PM_C03 and pkg size 100
    and it fixed the problem.
Hope that helps. I just saw this and we don't have BW anymore. We have moved to HANA and shutdown BW.

  • Excel 2010 - Calculated Members on Dimension

    Hi
Was wondering if there was any workaround in Excel 2010 to make these appear. My understanding is that the behaviour is unchanged from 2007.
Does anyone know of any plans to support calculated members on dimensions in Excel?
    Cheers

I added the following to Adventure Works and it displays in Excel 2010 if I make sure to tick the option to display calculated members from the OLAP server.
    CREATE
    MEMBER
    CURRENTCUBE.[Date].[Calendar].[All Periods].test
    AS 123,
    VISIBLE = 1 ;
The other approach is to add a physical member to your dimension and then use a SCOPE to set the value based on an expression. This way you don't need to set the option to display calculated members.

  • "Members in Dimension" Vs "Members Stored".

This question is regarding a difference that I am seeing in the"Database Properties" - "Dimensions" tab for one of our custom dimensions.
For one of our custom dimensions in Production we have X number of members. When I check the "Database Properties" - "Dimensions" tab the "Members in Dimension" is equal to X and the "Members Stored" also equal to X.
But in Development when I compare the same "Members in Dimension" and "Members Stored" columns for this custom dimension they have different numbers. The number in "Members Stored" column is lower than X.
While I was trying to know the reason I noticed that we had turned off the IMPLIED SHARE property (Essbase.cfg) in production for only our application but we didn't turn it off in Developement. I was hoping that this was the cause for the difference and so I made the same setting change in development in the essbase.cfg file and restarted the servers.
The problem now is even now the values don't sync up in both the columns ("Members in Dimension" != "Members Stored"). Is there anything else that I could be missing?
Please let me know your thoughts so that I can fix this difference.
    Thanks.

  • Rename multiple members in essbase

    Hi,
Can anyone tell me how can we rename multiple members in essbase at a time and also the data should not be lost for the existing member combination.

It depends on how many members you want to rename and if any of the names switch between members. If all of the new member names are not the same as an old member name and there are not too many of them, then you could just rename them in EAS and the data will follow.
If some of the names are the same (for example, you want to reanme a -> B and C->A) then you have to do it in two steps rename A-B and save the changes then rename C->A and save the change.
If you have a lot to do, then it becomes a bit harder as it is difficult to automate it. You can sometimes use new aliases to make the new names, then go back and rename the members to match the aliases.
You can also use the API to do this. read something that has the onl and new names and do a rename function. This would take a little more work to incorporate. I think the code to get you started is still available from a presentation I gave a couple of years ago at the Kaleidoscope conference. Look on the ODTUG site (You have to be a member, but you can sign up for free)
