Multiple OC4J's on Application Server

Hi All,
What are the pros and cons of using multiple OC4Js on the same Application Server.? We have 5 j2ee applications and plan to deploy it on 5 different oc4js. I want to know if by doing this will the response time of the applications improve/reduce. Also what the about the load on the Application Server ?
Thanks

Hi Venkat,
The only pro you will have by deploying 5 applications on 5 different OC4J instances is the administration of applications and maybe some maintenance. What do I mean by maintenance: rolling upgrades, bug fixes for the application etc, by having its own OC4J instance you can stop and restart the OC4J instance and not worry about the other applications i.e. no interruptions.
The cons:
- you need to make sure that eacj OC4J instance has enough memory i.e. you need to have enough physical memory on the system to support multiple OC4J's
- there will be no effect on OC4J performance but since the CPU utilization may go up it could have an adverse effect, this will depend on the actual system and I advise doing an impact test before going into production.
You do not mention the AS version but in 10.1.3 you can stop and start just the application and not have to bounce the OC4J instance so you might look into 10.1.3 (in that case the pro is one instance to manage and you do not have to worry about memory resources).
Hope this helps.

  • Is there any way to upload Tariff Code (with multiple XML files) from application server?

    Hi All,
Is there any way to upload Tariff Code (with multiple XML files) from application server?. Its urgent.
    Regards,
    Jatin

    Hi Jatin,
Yes, of course you can upload multiple files for tariff codes.
This can be done by the below path:-
SAP GTS Cockpit(tcode-/sapsll/menu_legal)-->Customs Management-->Classification-->Classification Master Data-->Upload Tariff Code Numbers from XML file(tocde- /SAPSLL/LLNS_UPL101).
In the above area after browsing and choosing the first file, please select multiple check box to choose more files as well. Then you can further select your application server and upload all those files in one go.
PS:- Although, we have an option to upload multiple such files but actually we should avoid multiple file uploads due to various reasons. Hence, please take utmost care during such procedure.

  • Issue with reading XLSX with multiple sheets file in application Server

    Hi,
We're currently implementing SAP CRM 7.40.
In one requirement we have to process an XLSX file and load its information to a set of Z tables.
The file has 6 sheets of data to process, each sheet with distinct number of columns and types (each sheet will be upload to a different Z table).
We're able to process the XLSX using the Desktop Office integration for local files.
However, we must also be able to process files on the application server.
We tried the following approaches without success
    - The DOI library doesn't seem to support remote files processing:
    - OPEN DATASET. with the dataset we're able to read a remote file, however since the file format is XLSX, the information we read in the dataset comes in an unreadable format
    - FTP. we tried to use FTP to download the remote file to a local folder so that we could then use the DOI library to process the file. However, the client only allows SFTP connections and SAPFTP doesn't provide SFTP
There's another approache we're considering to try which is to have a perl script on the application server to split the Excel file into CSV files (one for each tab) and then use OPEN DATASET to read the contents of each file and work from there. This approach seems quite cumbersom
The approach with DOI would be the best one but either we're missing a key configuration or it truly can't be used for files. Are there any special requirements that we should take into account for this option?
We'd like to know if you have any other approach that proves successfull or if any of the above can work but with some aditional adjustments.
    Thanks in advance.
    Best regards.

    Hello Ricardo,
    Go through below link.
to read Excel file from the application server in a BACKGROUND process
You can try below approach if it is feasible for you.

  • In Oracle 9 Application Server can we create multiple instances???

Hi I need one help this is regarding to the oracle 9 application server in this can we create the multiple instances??
my application was already developed and currently it is working with one instance for this i need to create the another one more instance which is same as existing and my application is web application developed in Forms6i and the db is oracle 9i my requirement is to create one more instance what are all the configuration files need to be modified and please give this info ASAP....

It is still not very clear. What do you mean by creating "one more instance of the same application in the same application server"? By "application" do you mean another instance of OC4J in same Application Server Instance? If yes, you can do that. I mean you can create another OC4J component in same Application Server Instance without doing another installation. Refer this for details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97329_03/core.902/a92171/config.htm#1010793
If you are looking to create another Application Server Instance out of same installation/binaries (i.e. Oracle Home) than the answer is no. You can not create multiple Application Server Instances out of one Oracle Home. You will have to do another installation in a different Oracle Home and that's how you will get another Application Server Instance.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • How  to deploy on different OC4J than "home" on Application Server

    Hi
I've a JSP/Struts Application which runs well in JDeveloper and runs well if deployed to the "home" instance of Oracle Application Server 10g Release 3. However, we want to deploy this Application to a separated OC4J (keeping different Applications separated). So I'm trying to create a second OC4J instance in Application Server in order to deploy my application. This seems to be quite complicated !
Can anyone point me to some information on how to create a new OC4J Instance in Oracle AS 10g with all necessary BC4J- and ADF-Libraries in order to deploy an application?
    Thanks

pls use the em website to create the new oc4j stance, you can access em by http://yourashost:1810
then ,you may deploy the project to a ear file and deploy it on new oc4j stance in em website.
maybe i do not make me understood,::)

  • How Standalone OC4J and the Oracle Application Server linked to each other

    Hi ,
Please let me know what is the relation between a Standalone OC4J and the Oracle Application Server ?
In my application The Oracle Application Server is installed in C drive and there is a Stand alone oC4j .
Please tell me how they are linked to each other .
    Thank you .

It depends on your need and what features and functionality of Oracle Application Server you are interested in. Note that OC4J is a component of Oracle Application Server that can run as a standalone component or within Oracle Application Server. Question #6 in earlier mentioned FAQ document states:
OC4J standalone is J2EE 1.3 compatible (1.4 and 1.5 too in later releases of OC4J) and is able to be used in both development and small scale production environments. OC4J standalone provides its own inbuilt HTTP/S listener to allow clients to execute Web applications that it has deployed. Application deployment and server configuration of OC4J standalone is performed by the manual editing of a simple set of XML files.
For large scale enterprise deployments, the Oracle Application Server product is likely to be more suitable with its comprehensive feature set including Oracle HTTP Server, process monitoring and management capabilities, and its configuration and management console.
So if you are happy with what you see in standalone OC4J and scalability isn't an issue for you, you can stay with standalone OC4J and don't need to move to Oracle Application Server.
PS: If you do decide to use OC4J that's embedded with Oracle Application Server, you can't move your standalone OC4J inside Oracle Application Server. You will have to reconfigure embedded OC4J again (as you might have done with standalone OC4J) and redeploy your applications.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Connection type "Application Server ..." missing

I'm trying to create a connection to an "Oracle Application Server 10g". When prosessing the wizard you have an option to select "Connection Type". This list does not show "Oracle Appliaction Server".
If I press the Help button the list shows these options:
    Standalone OC4J 11g
    Oracle Application Server 11g
    Oracle Application Server 10g
    WebLogic Server 9.x
    Tomcat 5.x
    JBoss 4.0.x
Is Oracle Application Server removed from the preview?

Just a quick note. JDeveloper 11g will not provide deployment to 10.1.3.x directly. This feature will be enable through Ant tasks which JDev provides.

  • Is Oracle10g Application Server EE5 compliant?

Is Oracle 10g Application server EE5 compliant?

    Jap:
Yes, as Avi said, oc4j standalone does not include a jdk. In contrast, the oracle application server of various versions I installed include a jdk; although it is probably true for all types of oracle application server installation, I prefer not to swear it. I Just in case it is not very obvious to you, oc4j and oracle Application Server are not the same thing. The reason why I did not suggest you that you should go to the forum "application server -general" for your question is that the compatibilities of application server to j2se or j2ee versions are largely determined by the case with oc4j.
For more information on certification matrix of oracle application server, google "site:oracle.com application server certification".
By the way, it seems that 10.1.2.0.2 of oc4j standalone are compatible with jdk 1.5 as mentioned by Avi. However, I do not konw if it is supported.

  • One Oracle Application Server and multiple OC4J Instances

While we are getting new server (for development) we have to set-up a Development and Production enviroment for our project (dont have previous OAS installation) but on the same machine.
So, is a good option to have One OAS INstallation (Ora Home) and then create multiple OC4J instances, one for each environment (Development, QA and Production)?, is it possible? How to manage deployments between OC4J instances, simulating different contexts if they are in the same server and under the same HTTP Server? Will be there conflicts?

    Hi,
you can do this and OracleAs will manage the different instances. The deployment can be done with Enterprise Manager in which case you select the OC4J instance first before deploying. If deploying from JDeveloper, you can specify the OC4J instance when creating the named connection

I would advise you to use the latest version - 10.1.3.5 - i remember some issues with 10.1.3.4.
    For certifications see here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/ias/downloads/oracle-soa-certification-101310-097492.html
You have two options to bypass the check:
    * Use ignore : runinstaller -ignoresysprereqs
    http://onlineappsdba.com/index.php/2008/11/24/upgrade-oracle-application-server-to-10134-10g-r3-patchset-4/
    * Or change in the installers file that lists the allowed versions - you can search for the numbers listed in your error dialog

  • How to store multiple files from SAp in to Application server?

    Hi Guys,
Can anybody tell me how to store multiple files from SAP into Application server.in my application i have to get the data from SAP tables BSEG , BKPF , BSAK and BSIK that to daily i have to do.
Any Logic  or Code for how to do is welcomed.
                        plz help me urgently.
    Thanks,
    Gopi

    Hi,
directories creates basis. If you have task to store data in application server you already should have information into which folder you have to do it. If you don't have this information because it is just for example training for next task then you can use your personal folder into which you have access. To get list of all available folders please look at attached code and form get_directories (you get the list of folders you see in transaction AL11). But don't forget: If you are using open dataset you have to have rights to access application folder!
Here you are code which I use to upload text files from local disc into application folder

  • Fetching of multiple files from Application Server into SAP Program

    Hi All,
I have a issue related <b>Fetching of multiple files from Application Server into SAP Program</b>.
    Actual issue is as below.
    In the <b>selection screen</b> of <b>my program</b> i will give <b>Application Server Path</b> as :
    <b>/PW/DATA/SAP/D1S/PP/DOWN/eppi0720*</b>
Then the based on above input it should pick up all the files that are matching <b>eppi0720*</b> criteria.
Suppose if i am having <b>5</b> files with above scenario, i have to fetch all those <b>5</b> files at a time and place in my SAP Program.
All those 5 file's data should come into SAP at a time.
Can anybody tell me how can we solve above issue.
If any body has come across same issue please provide me with solution.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.

Multiple users logged into one server, each users printer has a different name, application needs ONE name to print to.
I'm NOT in any way a Terminal Services expert and I need help trying to get an application program working in a multi-user environment.
The issue is that the printer changes for every user that is logged in. The application needs to print NOT to the default printer, but to a "special" printer which is selected in the application... let's call it a label printer to simplify the explanation.
You have your default regular printer, easy for the application to find that one, and then you have a special printer that labels get printed onto. The application needs to know what printer is the label printer. So we allow the user to select that in the
application and the selection is stored in a config file in
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
I don't have access to the application so I can't change how this works.
In the "regular" world, selecting the label printer driver to use should be per machine, NOT per user. When a new user logs into a machine, the physical printer doesn't go "poof" and a new printer suddenly appear. Same printer for all
    users.
Yet in terminal services, the physical machine is "merged" with the virtual machine on the server. And there can be many users logged in at the same time. So each users real machine (and real printer) is injected into the "fake" terminal
services machine. The name of the printers is made unique for each user. So the printers DO go "poof" and change names depending on the user logged into terminal services.
So user "A" logs in and sets up the application to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" (or whatever the name of the printer happens to be), that setting is stored in the ProgramData subfolder, and all is well. Later, user "B" logs
in, and when they print, the application tries to print to "LabelPrinterForUserA" which doesn't exist for user B or is only accessible by user A. If user B re-configures, that breaks it for user A.
SOLUTION 1: The way that /should/ work (in my mind) is that you define one "generic" printer in Terminal Services... call it "Virtual Label printer" and when the user wants to print to it, the print job gets re-directed back to whatever
physical printer is actually connected to their local workstation. There is a map of virtual printer to actual printer depending on the current user. The application is told once to print to "Virtual Label Printer" for all users.
SOLUTION 2: Or... there should be some way to make the ProgramData sub folders separate per user. E.g. when user "A" tries to access:
    C:\ProgramData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    they actually get
    C:\UserData\UserA\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
    and user "B" gets
    C:\UserData\UserB\AppData\mfgr\prog\setting files
So the question I have is: Does either of those solutions exist hidden somewhere in the setup of terminal server? Or is there another way around this issue that I don't know?

I don't really have a "for sure" answer to this, but because people here can't seem to deal with a question that hasn't been answered I'll provide the best answer I did receive from ServerFault.com user Nathan:
I can feel your pain with using old software on terminal servers ...the solution I've come up with definitely won't scale as it requires some manual configuration, but I've gotten this method to work with our label printers (which require to be
printed to an LPT port...yep, that old).
Share your USB-connected printers to the network on each machine. Then, have the user log in on aunique session for each of them
(a TS account cannot be shared among computers for this to work) and install a network printer pointing to the USB one they shared. Try to use a DNS name to account for possible DHCP movements.
After, it should work. Each user can do this since display names can be identical as long as the ports are different (which they are).
This was clarified by the following series of comments:
I think you are on to something here, and I originally advised the admin to do this. The problem he ran into is that it setup the printer names in the TS as "printer on usersworkstation"
and he could not rename it except to change the "printer" to whatever. E.g. the "on userworkstation" remained. I believe there is another way of installing the printer which avoids this, but I can't find it. Ages ago, one used to do NET
USE LPT2 \\computer\printer password /USER:domain\user /PERSISTENT:YES and then tell the driver to print to LPT2 –  James

@JamesNewton That's actually the exact method we used. The way around the "network printer" part is to install it as local printer and map it to a TCP/IP port that way. –  Nathan

You mean in the case where the printers are TCP/IP connected and not local USB / LPT to the users workstation? That makes sense. Wonder if this will work for USB connected printers... –  James

@JamesNewton You'd share the local printer on the client's PC then on the server connect via TCP/IP to it. You'd need static addresses or use DNS names if DHCP, though. –  Nathan

Ah. Yes. I see. Looks like the LPT thing should work even with a USB connected printer:superuser.com/questions/182655/… –  James
