Multiple Oracle Databases in a Single Windows Server

Hi all,
I have Windows Server System which has oracle database created.
My question is:-
How can i create multiple databases on the same server without affecting the first created database & i want to use the both databases at a time?
Please give the steps to do multiple databases in the same server if possible..
Thanks in advance,
Venkatesh J

Oracle scales by adding more servers to a single physical database. This is called Oracle RAC.
You want to add more physical databases to a single server - doing the exact opposite of what Oracle offers as a scalable solution.
Please give the steps to do multiple databases in the same server if possible..No special steps. Run DBCA and create a new database instance. In other words, the exact same steps followed for creating the 1st database on that server.
Also make sure you fully understand WHAT you are doing and the IMPLICATIONS of that. An Oracle database is not the same as a mySQL or SQL-Server database. An Oracle Schema is a logical database - and compares to what a mySQL/SQL-Server database is.
And a single Oracle database can contain 1000s of logical databases (schemas). Each with their own dedicated storage, own security, own resource profile, etc.
Oracle is not mySQL/SQL-Server.
Understanding the differences is important.

  • Oracle Database XE with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit)

    I would like to find out if Oracle Database XE works with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit)?
    If not, is there any other Oracle Open Source Database version can work with Microsoft Windows Server 2008 (32-bit)?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I am installing W2k8 R2 Domain Controller with Oracle Express 10g.
    This is the tip to make it work.
    Go to the installer OracleXE.exe -> Right click + Select Properties + Compatibility + Run this program in Compatibility Mode fot + Windows 2003 Sp1
    Then Select Run this Program as administrator.
    After this run the OracleXe.exe and it will install properly.
    Remember to double check that everything works fine.

  • Enterprise Manager Job for Scripting DataPump Export for Oracle Database Running On MS Windows Server 2008

    Greetings,
    I would like an example of an Enterprise Manager Job that uses an OS Script for MS Windows that would effectively run a datapump export of my Oracle 11g database (11.2.0.3) running on a Windows 2008 server.  My OEM OMS is running on a Linux server with an Oracle 12c repository.  I'd like to be able to set environment variables for date and time, my export file name (that includes SID, and export date and time, job name, and other information pertinent to the datapump export.  Thus far, I have been unsuccessful with using the % delimiter around my variables.  Also, I have put the "cmd/c" as the "Interpreter" but I am not getting anywhere in a hurry :-(
    Thanks  Million!!!

    1. Try to reach server with IP )(bypath name resolution)
    2. Disabling IPv6 is not good idea
    3. What is server operating system and what is workstation operating system?
    4. Is this new or persistent problkem?
    5. If server and workstation has different SMB version, set higher to lower one (see Petri web for procedure)
    6. Uninstall AV with removal tool and test it without AV
    7. Use network monitor to diagnose network traffic.

    Thanks in advance for your cooperation.

    Hi Helios
    Thanks for the response. The database is still not created to check in the Alert log .It is still in the phase of pre-requisite checks. I did not go with Silent installation.It is a plain single instance installation.

    Hi,
    There are various differences between the two.
    1. SQL Server is only Windows, but Oracle runs on almost all Platforms.
    2. You can have multiple databases in SQL Server, but Oracle provides you only one database per instance.Given that the very term 'database' has s different meaning in the two products, this "difference" is absolutely meaningless.
    3. SQL Server provides T-SQL for writing programs, whereas Oracle provides PL/SQLWhich means what? Both products have a procedural programming language. They named them differently, and the languages are not interchangeable. Means nothing in comparing the features/strengths/weaknesses/suitability to purpose.
    4. Backup types in both are the same. (Except Oracle provides an additional backup called Logical Backup.)You make that sound like "Logical Backup" is something more than it is. It is nothing more than an export of the data and metadata. Many experts don't even consider it a backup. I'm sure SQL Server provides the same functionality though they probably call it by some other name.
    5. Both provide High Availability.Well, I guess they both have a suite of features they refer to as "High Availability". But what does that really mean? The devil is in the details. Remember, the two products don't even agree on what constitutes a "database".
    6. Both come in various distributions.???

    If you are going for an Implementation, you can try SQL Server Express Edition and Oracle XE which are free to use.
    Then you can choose whichever is comfortable for your needs.
    Thanks.

    Select them and press the Option, Command, and I keys at once. The resulting window will change its content based on the selection.

  • Oracle ODBC version error on windows server 2008 64 bit

    We had installed oracle 10g standard edition on windows server 2008 64 bit. After one hour use of ODBC connection, we are getting a error message like 'Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation. • Which version of Oracle database is best for Windows 7 Home Premium?

    Any input as to which version of Oracle database is best for Windows Home premium? Is there a major difference between the express edition and 10g itself as far as the interface/learning purposes goes?

    EssbaseApprentice wrote:
    Any input as to which version of Oracle database is best for Windows Home premium?That's easy to answer, none . No oracle database version was released for Home(Premimum) series. There are several blog posts/articles which do mention that they have installed oracle releases over Home(Premium) platforms but whether it would work or not, it would be just a lottery and help regarding troubleshooting would not be there.
    Is there a major difference between the express edition and 10g itself as far as the interface/learning purposes goes?You mean 10g Express Edition and 10g Enterprise, Standard Editions? If yes, then there is indeed difference. The Express edition is more like a developer's playground with a good looking GUI even there to administer it. EE or SE are the production releases , meant for being used in a very busy, highly concurrent environments. There would be additional features like RAC and Dataguard that would come with EE and wont be there in the XE. So if you are learning to become a production DBA, you should right away use EE or SE IMO .

  • Multiple Weblogic nodes on single Windows server  - Dispatcher question?

    Hi All,
    My experience is with other J2EE web servers (SAP's Netweaver predominantly) and typical installations on this platform include the installation of a dispatcher J2EE node which balances load across potentially multiple J2EE nodes on a single server. Does Weblogic have a similar set-up, as it appears when you create multiple nodes in Weblogic, you need to set-up a load balancer to achieve this same effect (that is installed by default on other platforms).
    Obviously creating a single node is pretty useless for the majority of production installations; hence what is the recommended option (without setting up a dedicated load balancer) to achieve this on a single (albeit large) server?
    Thanks,
    Matt

    Hi,
    I had just remembered another option, we can set up weblogic as webserver which does the load balancing. Below are the two ways you can do that.
    1. While creating the domain using "config.sh" you will get an option to set up "weblogic server as webserver". This option is enabled only on condition "cluster must be created, and few managed servers needs to assigned to cluster". For example if we create 3 managed servers and we assign 2 managed to cluster then "Http Proxt screen" would be enabled where remaining server can be set up as "http proxy webserver".
    2. Below is the lengthy procedure.
    a. Create a standalone weblogic server.
    b. We need to create a dummy war, which just contains below "web.xml" adn "weblogic.xml", let me know if you have trouble creating this war file.
    Contents of "web.xml"
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <web-app xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/j2ee" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
    <servlet>
    <!-- Add HTTPClusterServlet -->
    <servlet-name>HttpClusterServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>weblogic.servlet.proxy.HttpClusterServlet</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>WebLogicCluster</param-name>
    <param-value>127.0.0.1:7003|127.0.0.1:7005|127.0.0.1:7007</param-value>
    </init-param>
    </servlet>
    <!-- Add HTTPClusterServlet Mapping elements -->
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HttpClusterServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HttpClusterServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HttpClusterServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>*.htm</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HttpClusterServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>*.html</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>HttpClusterServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>browsestore</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    </web-app>
    Contents of "weblogic.xml" . This deployment descriptor is used to deploy this application as "default application".
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?>
    <weblogic-web-app xmlns="http://www.bea.com/ns/weblogic/90" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance">
    <!-- Add the context root here -->
    <context-root>/</context-root>
    </weblogic-web-app>
    c. Now deploy this war file to standalone weblogic server.
    d. Lets suppose you had deploy application "vas.war" on managed server "VASMS1", "VASMS2", which are running on host "vasunix1" and "vasunix2" on ports 8002. You can access the application directly "http://vasunix1:8001/vas" or "http://vasunix2:8002/vas".
    Now since you had set up "http proxy webserver" which does the load balancing, you can directly hit "http proxy webserver" url and it redirects traffic to "VASMS1" or "VASMS2". Lets suppose "Http proxy webserver" "VASMS3" is running on "vasunix1" on port "8003". You can access the application "http://vasunix1:8003/vas", this request is directed to MS1 or MS2.

  • Multiple oracle database instances with different characterset on  the same server

    Hello,
    Is it possible to have 2 database instances running with different charactersets,one with AL32UTF8 and the other with WE8MSWIN1252.?
    Are there any setup requirements to be performed prior to setting up the database instances?
    The 3rd party utility that we want to use does not support AL32UTF8 and insists on using a database with character set WE8MSWIN1252.
    Kindly help.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

    Hello Zhe,
    I guess I posted my question in a wrong forum.  I tried my best to find a suitable forum and thought this was the best and closest I found.  Apparently not.  Can you please let me know the right forum for my question?
    The below is the breif of what we are currently facing:
    We are in the process of finalizing plans to install Automic for our Retail applications to schedule jobs.  In the process came to know that Automic does not support AL32UTF8.
    Right now we have RMS and UC4 (now called Automic) run on the database server as UC4 supports AL32UTF8 and schema for UC4 is inside the RMS database.
    Going forward it is recommended to have a separate database instance on the same server as that of RMS database and with a different characterset which is WE8MSWIN1252.
    Please let me know what forum to post in, I will repost the question.
    Thanks,
    Ram.
