Multiple Portal instances on the same machine

Hi  Forum,
we have a requirement where in we are asked to implement multiple instances of Portal on the same machine. can you please give me some detials on Feasibility , issues and limitations of having multiple Portal instances on the same machine , different instances pointing to different tiers(Dev, Test, Production) etc
pointers will be highly appreciated..

  • Multiple Instances on the same machine: Several IP Addresses

Hi all, I want to set up several instances of WL on the
same server. These instances will be clustered. I am
using Apache for the WebServer. Here the configuration
I used: I first change the weblogic.conf file in Apache
to set up the bridge.I restart apache using apachectl.
Then, on the WebLogic site, I created a new ipadress
using ifconfig hme0:1 ip adress ... I created a file
hostname.hme0:1 in /etc I added this Ip address in /etc/hosts.
I added this Ip address in the mycluster DNS. I wanted
to start both WL manually using startWebLogic.sh file
to see the log file. So, I first assign hostname to WL1.
Then start WL. I opened an other terminal. Assign the
hostname to WL2. Then start using startWebLogic.sh. The
first instance started correctly. When the second started,
there was an error: when listening to the port 7001,
this port was already used. That was the same with the
              port 7002.
Then , my question is How is it possible to configure
several instances on the same machine using several ip
addresses and one port. Thank you for your help. Erwan

Please try -Dweblogic.system.bindAddr=<a.b.c.d> in your startWebLogic.sh.

  • How to run 2 weblogic instance in the same machine

is it possible to run 2 weblogic instance in the same machine ?
I have created 2 domains ...domain-1 and domain-2 in my hard disk and both of them have startWeblogic.cmd in them..
but i cant run them simultaneously though individually they run.
they differ by HTTP port and Debug port but still they dont run simultaneously
    can you please comment ?

    yea...i thought about it .
but as both of them are same application and they are using the same DB connection pool , JMS queue ....i just dont want to mix all these.
so i have created two seperate domian . and i run them individually and they work fine.
However , they are having different ports though .
But when i run the second one while the first one is running ....the second one does not starts up
here is the error when i click on startsWeblogic.cmd when the other is already running.

  • More than one Portal instance on the same database

Is it possible to have more than one Portal instance on the same database?

Yes this is possible. We have run 2 separate portal instances on our test database successfully.

  • Multiple application instance on the same server instance

Can we have multiple instances of the same application on a single WLS?? For ex, can I have two app.ear files in different application directories??

    Hi Nilesh,
Can you please clarify your landscape as this will help in getting answers to your question.
In general adding instances (and/or server nodes) should be considered for increasing capacity rather than impoving performance. Specifcially, adding instances (and/or server nodes on the same host you risk a situation where the processes compete for resources which will have a negative effect on performance. If you do need to combine instances on the same host, make sure there is enough hardware (specifically memory in case of JAVA).
    Hope this helps,
    Best regards, Walter

  • File sharing across multiple user accounts on the same machine

    Hello,
I try to figure out how multiple users (my wife and I) on the same mac can have equal access to files on the local drive without granting that access to all users on that machine or even the rest of the world.
My research sofar hasn't come up with a satisfying solution. Here are the solutions that I am looking at:
    1. Enable a permission system that ensures access to both users in all cases (file/directory creation, copy and move).
I only found a suitable solution for creating and copying files/directories but not for moving them.
See the following articles for reference:
https://discussions.apple.com/message/20787617#20787617 Setting up a shared structure that works e.g. for iPhoto Library but not for moving files to and from
https://discussions.apple.com/message/4005647#4005647 Helpful information on POSIX Permissions, ACL's an Permission inheritance
This would be my first choice if I can get around the problem of moving files...
    2. Disk Image
Create a disk image which ignores persmissions and set permissions for the file that contains the image instead.
Read this article to get further details: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1198
This solution will work but has a few disadvatages:
There's no mutual access from multiple user accounts since an image may only be mounted by one user at a time.
One has to create a startup script that mounts the image upon login which would create a first come first serve for access to the image content.
    3. Using a file sharing protocol (e.g. afp or smb) locally.
The idea behind it is to have a server providing the files mutually to multiple users one the same machine. At them moment this seems to be the most promising approach to me.
Unfortunately I can get acces from another machine but not from the same machine. Has anyone ever tried to access the file sharing (afp or smb) from the same machine on which the server is located?
Has anyone got some helpful hints for me?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but you didn't specify details, and it was worth checking whether or not you had overlooked this approach.
The problem you're having (as I suppose you already know) is that any new disk item inherits the permissions of the folder it is originally created in in.  These permissions (sensibly enough) need owner or administrator permission to change once they've been established; that will happen when you copy a file to a new location (because that's essentially creating a new file) but not when you move it. any of the following would work:
changing the permissions on newly created files for both users so that they all explicitly give r/w access to a particular group.
writing a droplet that would change the permissions of files dropped on it and move them programmatically to the shared folder
set up a folder action or launchd job that would watch the shared folder and automatically convert permissions on files placed in it.
The last would be the approach I would take, but...  which appeals to you?

  • Communication between Two WebLogic instances on the same machine

    Hi,
We're having a problem with communication between two copies of Weblogic on
the same machine. They are configured with seperate ports (regular and SSL).
Independantly, they run fine. I can access EJBs running on either of them.
The problem is that a bean in one of them has code which attempts to access
an EJB on the other one. The procude fails when trying to obtain the initial
context. This same code works if compilied independantly of WebLogic on the
    same machine.
Are there any known issues regards communication between two running
instances of Weblogic on the same machine?

    Thanks for the prompt reply.
There is one IP address (internal address 10.227.1.34) one the machine. WLS1
is set up at ports 7001 and 5133. WLS2 is setup at ports 7004 and 7005.
When WLS1 attempts to obtain a context to WLS2 with the URL
t3://10.227.1.34:7004/ it pauses for a long period of time. Running truss
on the both WLS processes shows communication occuring between the two
followed by long periods of silence. Finally WLS2 spits out the error
    ConnectionException[7001,7001,5133,5133,7001,7001] (paraphrased, I can get
the entire error if it would help).
After another long pause, WLS1 quits trying with the error 'Server
    10.227.1.34:7004 not found' (again paraphrased).
    Among the things we've tried:
    * Changing the URL from the IP to 127.0.0.1
    * Enabling/disabling SSL on either or both WLSs.
    * Changing the server name in WLS2's copy of weblogic.properties from
'myserver' to 'myserver2' (previously they were both 'myserver')
    * Upgrading WLS2 to 5.1.0sp5 (Tried upgrading WLS1, but was getting class
not found errors and quit because that WLS is being used by other people)
This is a Solaris server. WLS1 is running 5.1.0 and WLS2 is running 5.1.0sp5
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Best,

  • How to configure a second apache instance on the same machine?

    Hello,
We are in the process of migrating our client server application to web. We are using 9iAS (release 1), forms and reports 6i.
We installed 9iAS (Rel. 1) on Solaris platform. This instillation is our development platform. We need to create a second instance on the same Solaris box. What steps are to be taken to create this new instance on the same box?
Any pointers or documentation are appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.
    Arun.

You can create a 2nd service and copy all config files involved and change the contents of the files. E.g. create httpd_2.conf etc. etc. You will find that this is an endless process.
What I usually do is create another Oracle 9iAS home (iSuites only). The installer automatically assigns a new port number and creates new config files.
You do not have to install a 2nd Developer home. Instead, create a second environment file, e.g. (paths are clearly for Windows in my example):
    <ORACLE_Dev6i_HOME>\Forms60\Server\Apptest2.env
Edit <ORACLE_9iAS_HOME>\Apache\Jserv\Servlets\zone.properties and add the following lines:
    servlet.oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet.initArgs=EnvFile=D:\Oracle\Dev6i\forms60\server\default.env
    servlet.servletApptest2.code=oracle.forms.servlet.ListenerServlet
    servlet.servletApptest2.initArgs=EnvFile=D:\Oracle\Dev6i\forms60\server\Apptest2.env
The alias servletApptest2 is used in the serverURL parameter in the startup html file.
Do something similar for Reports server. Create a 2nd Reports service and add this services to tnsnames.ora with a different port, e.g.
    RepserverTST2,RepserverTST2.world=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=myhost)(PORT=1951))

  • Multiple BAM installations on the same machine?

    Hi guys,
I have a customer with the following requirement:
"We have installed BAM 10.1.3.3 with EL and upgraded to 10.1.3.4. It is currently using a remote database 10.2.0.3 in our test envt. We want to use the same Windows server for monitoring our Development enviroment also using the Dev database. Is it feasible or will it corrupt the IIS of the windows machine already running BAM 10.1.3.4. Please provide your recommendations on this, whether to have separate windows servers or we can have multiple BAM installations on same server."
    Any ideas on this?
    Thanks in advance,

This can be done, but it really depends on the load balancer you use.
There is no recommendation from BusinessObjects and you might want to consult the load balancer vendor for instructions and support.

  • Multiple APEX instances sharing the same Oracle Home?

Can someone tell me if it is possible to have multiple APEX installations where the database instances are sharing the same Oracle Home? If so, how would this be set up?
So, if I have development and test running on the same home, I want a separate APEX instance for each. We can do this when different Oracle homes are used (separate httpd running) but not for the same home.
    Thanks

Thanks - We have tried putting 2 dad entries in file, but not sure how you connect. You only specify a port number, so how does it connect that to a db???

  • IHAT multiple iAS instances in the same view.

I have three iAS instances installed on the same node, the iHAT is also installed and running from the same node.
    iHAT Version: 10.1.3
    APPSERVERS:
    - INFRA - ORACLE_HOME01
    - MIDTIER#1 - Forms / Report - ORACLE_HOME02
    - MIDTIER#2 - Discoverer - ORACLE_HOME03
I installed iHAT and started the JAVA server, (3 sessions on different ports. 8096, 8097 and 8098)
Everything works well and i can monitor the application servers on the different ports from the web browser.
Then over to my question, is it possible to monitor all three IAS servers from only one running iHAT view? And if so, how is this possible.
    Best regards,
    Roberth Steiner

Yes.. I need to use different port and I could resolve by following steps
There is a way in Oracle Application Server to achieve this. However, it requires a different installation type and additional configuration, Following are the steps that you need to take.
    a) Install Oracle Application Server with J2EE Server only option, this is in Advanced Installation, also, please select the option: Configure this as an Administration OC4J Instance.
    b) Access Oracle Application Server control console
    c) Create the OC4J instances, by default, it has a home instance, then you need create additional instances: say example placeagra, placeexcalibur.
    d) Stop Oracle Application Server.
    e) Edit [oracle-appserver-root]/opmn/conf/opmn.xml
Replace OC4J instance placeagra's port definition for default-web-site
    from <port id="default-web-site" range="12501-12600" protocol="ajp"/> to <port id="default-web-site" range="8889" protocol="http"/>
Replace OC4J instance placeexcalibur's port definition for default-web-site
    from <port id="default-web-site" range="12501-12600" protocol="ajp"/> to <port id="default-web-site" range="8890" protocol="http"/>
    f) Start Oracle Application Server
    g) Install your applications into these instances through application control console. (You can only use home's ascontrol)
    * This should work fine. If you go to [oracle-appserver-root]/opmn/bin directory, type "opmnctl status -l", you will see that you have multiple HTTP server services running, each with different port.
    * This is identical to Weblogic's set up, however, this is not recommended for production, since the embedded HTTP server in Oracle Application J2EE server is only for application management, just as weblogic.
    * You can only access application console through home's http server, since ascontrol application for other instances are always in down mode.

  • Multiple environment instances in the same process with DB_REGISTER flag

    Hello,
I'm having two applications in the tomcat that should use the same environment. I have the DB_REGISTER flag set, and since tomcat has a java single process for all applications, I can't open an environment in the second application since I get a "DB_REGISTER limits processes to one open DB_ENV handle per environment" error message. This is understandable. So my question is: is there a way to "join" the first opened environment instance. Or do I have to run applications in two different processes, i.e. using 2 tomcat instances?
    Thanks,
    Vyacheslav

    Thanks for reply Sandra.
I have a follow-up question. Is it possible to get an environment instance if it's already opened in the process. For instance like:
    Application1 in the tomcat process:
Environment env  = new Environment(envHome, envConfig) //openning an env under "envHome" directoryApplication2 in the same tomcat process:
    Environment env;
    try{
env  = new Environment(envHome, envConfig) //openning an env under "envHome" directory
    } catch (DbException e) {
if(isAlreadyOpenedException(e)) { //checking that our exception is "DB_REGISTER flag permits only 1 opened env handle per process"
env = Enviroment.getEnvironmentHandleFromTheSameProcess(); //here I'm improvising. Is there any similar method?
} So my question is if it's something that is possible.
    Thanks in advance,
    Vyacheslav
