Multiple sources for address book

Is there a way to keep different sources for addresses separate and discrete in Address Book? For instance, we have our own addresses from iCloud, but I also have addresses coming from Google Mail. We've worked hard to keep the iCloud ones updated and "clean", whereas the Google Mail ones are a bit messier. Is there a way to keep them distinct when importing/subscribing from Address Book? Or, does all the information end up getting merged?
Thanks,
John

A table storing book details can only be designed like above. Right ? I mean, the duplication of records for one book because of multiple authors cannot be avoided. Right ? I would have had a table for books, and a separate one for authors, and a 3rd one for their relations :
create table books
book_id integer,
title varchar2(100),
etc...
create table authors
author_id integer,
name varchar2(100),
etc...
create table book_authors
book_id integer,
author_id integer
);You could also have only 2 tables book and authors (with authors table having a fk column to book_id).
It would depends if the author is supposed to remain unique throught different books.
- The 3 tables model would allow a single update on author information to be automatically "propagated" to all book he participed in.
- The 2 tables model would allow to have different information for each participation of the author to different books (but would certainly "duplicate" part of the data about the author)
One can also have even more tables to totally avoid data "duplication".

  • How to copy the same address for multiple contacts in Address Book?

    Hi! I got a question, I didn't find an answer for yet.
    How to copy the post address from one contact to another, without manual entering. I mean if I have one contact with already entered post address, can I just copy it someway at once to another contact?
    I don't want cards to merge, I need separate contacts, that may have different phones, e-mails, but the same post address. Please, advise.

    Thanks! yes, this is a solution I'm following now. But I was wondering about the similar way as it is made in Daylite or Contactizer - you create company with name and post address first, and then can create a contact for that company. And company name and post address will appear in contact name.
    I just wonder why such a simple and useful solution isn't available in Address Book as default.
    I know there are many scripts written for Address Book. Maybe there is something for this purpose?

  • Tags or keywords for Address Book?

    I'm surprised to find that Address Book doesn't seem to offer any sort of tags, keywords, or categories for contacts. I've searched the web and can't seem to find any information about this, or a plugin that do for Address Book what MailTags does for Apple Mail. Does anyone know of something to help???

    I mostly use groups for both those purposes. I also use the company field as a sort of tag, since very few of my contacts are companies rather than individual. So I have contacts with builder or plumber or electrician in the company field - but this won't work for you if you need that field for company names. The other field you can use is the notes field; you could put several tags in, and you wouldn't need any special separator as search will find them.
    The advantage of groups, for me, is that you only have to type the tag or category once and you can so quickly isolate all those in the group. A contact can of course be in multiple groups; indeed a group can be in a group.

    I am trying to sync by calendar and address book.
    Works for the Calendar but not Address Book.
    I get the following Sycn Warning message. Synchronization unavailable for: Address Book because the application(s) is (are) configured for wireless synchronization. Desktop synchronization for the above application(s) will be disabled. click here for information how to disable wireless sync on your device.
    Followed instructions to the letter numerous times and it doesn't work.
    HELP!

    Are you connected to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server? If so you can delete one service book on your device, and this will allow you to sync your device through the wire.
    To do this go to: Option> Advanced Options> Service Book. In here look for the Desktop  [SYNC] service book. Press the menu key and choose delete.
    Now you should be able to sync your device with Outlook. Once the sync is done go back to: Option> Advanced Options> Service Book. Press the menu key and choose undelete.

  • Groupwise Field Definitions for Address Book entry

    Hi,
    I am looking for Groupwise Field definitions i.e. Field Names associated with Address Book entry (Contact and Organization). I am using OAPI to access the Contact's field values and set the Contact's field values by Field Name. Is there any place which has the list of all the field Names associated with Contact and Organization Address Book entry.
    Note: Field Definitions for Address Book entries that are in PAB.
    I also look for the comparision of Field Names in Groupwise 7.0 and Groupwise 8.0.
    Thanks,
    Pranav

    Why don't you iterate through all the field definitions of a given abook?
    This will give you the list of all possible fields for an entry.

  • Multiple sources for trusted reconciliation

    Hi All,
    Is it possible to have multiple trusted source in OIM . such as I have to different application (1)end-user and (2)support. Both type of user need to created OIM.
    When I do the recon. on support after recon of end-user . I find that users from end-user are deleted.
    I am doing trusted recon.
    Am I missing anything and how we can support multiple source for trusted recon.
    Cheers

    Hi,
    I know you can have multiple trusted sources, as long as you normalize the attributes on the way in.
    I have seen an implementation with multiple trusted sources that provide the information for different attributes, as well as the same (for example, employees can change their own name in one application, HR can change it in PSFT, but PSFT is also authoritative for PSFT number). Since the First Name and Last Name can be touched by both, when the reconciliation connectors/adapters push the data into the recon engine, the attributes are named the same from both places.
    You can go into the organization of the users, find the Xellerate User process for the deleted users and find out what triggered the deletion. I have no idea what is doing it...
    Some ideas: if you are using the AD adapter and have Delete Recon turned on, and are doing a trusted recon, then you might get into conflicts between the users. Other adapters don't have Delete Recon, so they won't do this. I haven't looked into the new generic connector, so I am not sure if it does this as well.
    Also, you can look at the data coming in from the recons in the Design Console's Reconciliation Manager. This might give you a hint as to why things are getting deleted.
    Also, since I haven't played with 9.0.3 yet, it might just be a bug (I just finished my installation though and will be doing recons next week and see -- i have multiple trusted sources).
    Hope this helps,
    Deb

  • Source code for address book

    hi everyone,
    i have to make a contact wizard for iphone, i have allready designed the view for contact wizard using navigation controller, there are 3 pages total which includes UITextFields, PickerView, and Table View.

    i have written code in a function which is called on the Navigation toolbar Button
    the code is
    ABRecordRef aRecord = ABPersonCreate();
    CFErrorRef anError = NULL;
    ABRecordSetValue(aRecord, kABPersonFirstNameProperty,
    CFSTR("Jijo"), &anError);
    ABRecordSetValue(aRecord, kABPersonLastNameProperty,
    CFSTR("Pulikkottil"), &anError);
    if (anError != NULL) {
    NSLog(@"error while creating..");
    CFStringRef firstName, lastName;
    firstName = ABRecordCopyValue(aRecord, kABPersonFirstNameProperty);
    lastName = ABRecordCopyValue(aRecord, kABPersonLastNameProperty);
    ABAddressBookRef addressBook;
    CFErrorRef error = NULL;
    addressBook = ABAddressBookCreate();
    BOOL isAdded = ABAddressBookAddRecord (
    addressBook,

    NSLog(@"ABAddressBookSave %@", error);
    CFRelease(aRecord);
    CFRelease(firstName);
    CFRelease(lastName);
    CFRelease(addressBook);
    But it is showing many errors.
    can any one give me some advice how to manage it?

    You probably won't get much help here... this is a user forum, not a developer or programmer forum.

  • Can MULTIPLE birthdays on Address Book card show up in iCal?

    iCal 2.0.3 - I have a number of cards in my Address Book that list primary party, spouse and several children. I have created in Address Book on a single card a birthday field for EACH of the parties on an Address Book card. However, only the primary party's birthday automatically is transferred to the Birthday calendar in iCal.
    The only way I have been able to have all the birthdays shown in iCal is to have a separate Address Book card for each member of the family. Obviously, this bloats the Address Book.
    Is there any way that I can accomplish this with one Address Book card with multiple birthday fields?
    Thanks in advance for your help.
    Mac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    While you can't list multiple birthdays for multiple members of a family on a single card in Address Book and have them automatically added to the Birthday calendar in iCal, you can by using Dates to iCal donationware manually insert birthdays into the iCal Birthday calendar (http://www.nhoj.co.uk/)
    This is great in that it keeps you from having to bloat your Address Book by unnecessarily creating a separate card for each additional member of a family, e.g.

  • How do I add multiple birthdays to address book cards?

    I am trying to figure out how to add multiple birthday's to cards in my address book.  Example I have Jennie & John Smith & their daughters Sue & Susie.  How do I add a birthday for each one?  There does not seem to be a way to add more then 1 birthday but I can add as many URL's, e-mails, phones, address etc. as I want?

    Hi RSER,
    Apologies in advance for quantity of detail following..
    Currently there appears to be no way to add an additional birthday. (Haven't explored command line options)
    There are shareware options that will allow you to utilise the 'anniversaries' field to make additional birthdays and add them to iCal.
    Personally, when I want that level of individual detail for a person I make a sep. card and add a note or 'related person' item.
    I can only assume that the decision was made by Apple that we can have (and do) any number of phones and emails etc, but usually have only one birthday (some lucky people ie Queen Elizabeth have an official public holiday 'birthday' in some Commonwealth countries, so they get more gifts... but then have your issue)
    With iCal you are potentially stepping into a minefield (so many things could be improved)
    But consider that Apple have a key philosophy of simple.
    There is enough for everyday use, but not so much it is overwhelming to the new user
    If you want advanced functionality/technical capabilities, buy a 3rd party product
    Certainly there are additions I would like to see:
    The 'related names' field would be very useful if it were threaded within the address book to link/refer to other contacts, not just a static field.
    Threading within contacts would also be convenient for adding names/addresses to an appointment in iCal (but not have to send requests etc)
    Making a contact a 'Business', should allow multiple 'people', or as above, tie in multiple contacts
    Maybe something for v6...
    Maybe I should buy another app too
    Hope that at least eases the pain.

  • Multiple users sharing address book (intranet)

    Can one machine with multiple users share the address book? Basically I am setting up 3 users (parent control) so they can't stuff up the settings (desktop etc.) Two of them will share the address book,iPhoto,iTunes etc. of the administrator. The other will be independant.
    Can it be done simply. Yes I know about Prefs/User Groups and Users/Shared Folder. I have an existing setup (Address Book etc.) in the admin user, as the system has only had 1 user for a few years.
    Cheers

    You would think Apple, the forefront of Home computing, would have a built in preference selection allowing multiple users on the SAME computer to share simple things like address book and calendar data.
    Seems like a no-brainer.
    Its ridiculous that I have to buy a subscription to an online account, send all my personal stuff to some server in California or wherever in the world it is just so that I can share the info with my wife on the computer we share here at home
    Money Grab or what?
    V.K. wrote:
    if anything one should try a symbolic link with some inherited ACLs to make everything in the address book folder read+write for both users.
    "if anything" apple needs to provide an update that streamlines this sharing business, or at least provides a work around that is understandable for the average user. We spent good money on this machine to make some things in life easier, not to become programmers or system managers

  • Access via command line to the data files for Address Book

    Snow Leopard Server 10.6.8
    Mac Mini 2.66 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo 4 GB 1067 MHZ DDR3
    I rolled back from Mountain Lion Server to Snow Leopard Server because I needed mySql. At the time I was under AppleCare and they walked me through the steps. However, I ended up with Address Book issues.
    Addressbook user on the Snow Leopard Server was upgraded to Mountain Lion Server. During the rollback process, the Apple tech had me delete the Addressbook user.
    When we finished the rollback, he had me recreate the Addressbook user, but now it is linked to a new, empty data file. I cannot add new contacts nor edit or delete them. So I need to use the command line to view both data store files, find the one that has my data in it and re-attach it to my new Addressbook user.
    Can someone help me with the Command Line commands?
    Thank you,
    Cailyn

    Hi,
    There are a couple of more advanced solution I can think of and I'm actually working on one myself.
    * You can create your own jnlp client that allows you to pass in arguments. That sounds harder than it easy. Building a stripped down jnlp client (e.g. no installer, no applets) using one of the two open-source client as a start takes probably just a couple of days and should be sufficient for in house usage.
    * Another solution is what I'm working on now. You can wrap your own executable around javaws that takes your passed in arguments plus jnlp href and looks up the original in the cache and adds a new one to the cache that it passes on to javaws and suddenly everything works as it should. The magic will be revealed at http://www.geocities.com/vamp201

  • Multiple birthdays in Address Book on one card

    Hi. I am trying to figure out how to list multiple birthdays for an entire family on one card in AddressBook. For example...
    My sister has 3 children. I have her name in AddressBook that synchs with I-Cal.
    I have her birthday listed but I want to find a means to list her childrens birthdates on the same address card so they appear in I-Cal too.
    thanks..

    Hi,
    You could add the birthday dates as custom dates in Address Book and use Dates to iCal.
    Best wishes

  • Duplicates of elements for Address Book entries

    I have looked through the various threads that discuss "duplicate" entries in Address Book (Contacts). My situation is a slight variation.
    While I have a handful of AB people who have multiple entries (some have as many as 15!), my problem here is that most of my entries have double (and often triple) entries for an item. For example, two (or 3) Home Address items, or two (or 3) Home Phone items, etc. When an entry has double (or triple) values, everything for that entry (other than the Notes) is replicated in that same way -- spouses, children, ... everything.
    I have a Mobile Me account. I have syncing in iTunes turned OFF on both computers. One computer is running 10.4 (and therefore has Address Book 4.0.6 as the latest version). The other is running the latest version of 10.6, with Address Book 5.0.3. We have two iPhones and an iPad.
    What is suggested to correct the entries so that there is only one value for each of the fields?

    having the same Issue, when I add a contact on my iphone ( or edit) after syncing over MObile me : 1 iphone, 1 desktop / 1 powerbook:
    the contacts get doubled or trippled ( in all iphone and macs) and sometimes the I got up to 10 same phone number entries..
    it seems to sync back and forth couple of times...
