Multiple vs one schema in a Forms context

Hello,
I was asked a question relating to a Forms application architected as follows:
The main application is comprised of 10 sub-systems. Each system is related to a schema with a given owner. However, there are a number of grants that are required since systems within the application are inter-related. This is normal behavior for an ERP.
Everything has been working fine until now but the DBA raised a point of view which is the following: Why not regroup all of the object in the different containers and have a single container for all of the application ?
The main argument is that there is going to be a performance boost for our Forms application. Most likely, this is not a performance as far as access is concerned since access can be improved by tuning the app server. I see it as improvement from the DB side.
From your own experience, is it better to maintain the current approach with several containers or make the jump and have one single container for our Forms app.
I understand this might be seen as a database question but I am more interested with those that have the same experience in a Forms environment.
Thanks.

Hello all,
First of all, thanks for the excellent comments.
All the schemas are on the same server. There are no personal accounts used for the application. Only the applications accounts (10) are used within the system.
The existing structure as I see it is very easy for the developers as far as maintenance is concerned because whenever they have to work on FMBs, they just check the subsystem (DB side) they are working on.
Downside as mentionned is the DBA tasks and mostly the grants that are needed since the app accounts are required to have some grants because of all the interconnection within the subsystems (for example form A in one subsystems has a block based on 2 tables from two different schemas).
I am more inclined to believe that the current system, as it is structured now, is fine but we might need to work on the security aspect. Currently, users are granted privileges thru BD roles and this is quite cumbersome to manage. An easier approach would be to create a finite number of logon profiles in our Form app and that will be used for our users whenever they log on to the system.
This will probably solve the grants problem I mentionned in the beginning.

How can multiple check boxes be added at one time to a form?

Thanks for your response, but copying and pasting creates a link. If the user places a check mark in one of the boxes, all the rest of the boxes will have a check mark also. I will research this some more.

  • Multiple page  in only one pdf in adobe forms abap?

    Hi,
How to display multiple page  in only one pdf in adobe forms abap and avoid > sign in adobe for next page?

    Hi,
Here are the steps how you can do it.
    1. Create a table.
    2. In the Library palette, click the Standard category and drag the Table object into a cell in the main table.
Note: If you selected Donu2019t Show This Again in the Insert Table dialog box, when you select the Table object from the Library palette, LiveCycle Designer automatically inserts a table with the same number of columns and rows that you inserted the last time you used the Insert Table dialog box.
    3. In the Insert Table dialog box, enter the number of columns and rows. You can enter a maximum of 20 columns and 50 rows. You can add more columns and rows after the table is created by using the Insert commands on the Table menu.
    4. To add a header row, select Include Header Row In Table.
    5. To add a footer row, select the Include Footer Row In Table.
    6. Click OK.

  • Accessing Multiple Identical Schemas from Single Form

    Hi,
    I'm working with oracle 9i.
    My question is as follows:
If one has muliple schemas that are all identical, is it possible to setup an oracle form (Oracle Forms 9i) that is able to switch between schemas by selecting the schema from an objecton the form like a drop down list etc..I'm wondering if it is possible to design 1 form that can be used to access all schemas from a single logon. if so, how would I go about doing this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
I hope my question above is clear. If not I am happy to supply more info.
    Kind Regard,
    Damian

Your question is not very clear. Of course your logon will determine which schema. If you want to switch schemas, when the form is already running then you can use ALTER SESSION as Aleksandar indicated, but I would not recommend using it unless all form changes were committed. Another alternative is to create another session in the same schema by using OPEN_FORM, then logout of schema in this second session and login into new schema.

  • Multiple Instances and schemas to One

    Hi,
      Good Morning to all gurus.
    Using Oracle Version 11.2.0.2
We have a database With 4 instances and Each Instance will be having 10 to 15 schemas Based on Countries. Here in all schemas we will be having Huge data's (count may be 3 to 5 crores for some 10 tables)
Now am keen to Know If i change the above to a single instance and Single Schema(Common for all countries) What Pros and cons Will be there (Technical).
Any Links or Answers are highly appreciated.
HOPE GURUS Here can help me study and understand the above scenarios.

    cons:
    o harder to manage
    o harder to upgrade
    o harder to patch
    o harder to maintain
o causes your shared pool size to increase 1,000 times (shared sql goes down the tubes)
    o takes more space
o queries against the dictionary will be impacted
o latching on the shared pool goes WAY up (latching = locks = serialization device =
    slows you down)
    pros:
o none that I can think of.

Seperate schemas have advantages with security, privacy, seperation of duties, and change control. Seperate schemas also have the advantage of logical granularity / grouping for easier management, upgrade, decommission, scalability, hardware or software migration.
Yes, you can develop applications faster if you don't have to think about security, scalability etc, but it will come back to haunt you later.

    AND
Separate schemas have the disadvantage of requiring additonal grants and privileges to support the reference of non-owned objects used in stored code and to support FK definitions across tables owned by different users.
Naming standards and system codes can be used to identify and segregate objects defined under one schema.
The use of solid naming standards with a well chosen group of owners (schemas) would likely be a good compromise. The choice really depends on how large the applicaiton is going to be object wise and how integrated the objects are going to be. The more integration the less separate owners is beneficial.

  • How do people register for more than one person on a form?

We had a lot of complaints last year from organizations who sent several employees to our training.  It took a long time for them to process these one at a time.  How do people register for more than one person on a form?

    Hi thearcca,
This entirely depends on the form you create, you can add multiple choice button and ask for the no. of employees the organization wants to register.
Also, you can add corresponding text field for the names.

  • Multiple digital signatures in a pdf form?

I'm creating an adobe pdf form that requires multiple approvers (one after the other) to digitally sign the form. However, once the second person digitally signs the form, the first person's signature will become invalid because the addition of the second signature is not signed by the first person.
Is it possible to digitally sign the pdf form excluding the signatures?  and how to allow multiple signature in a pdf form while ensuring the form integrity?

    Hi,
I doubt that the addition of a second signature actually invalidates (the red X icon) the first signature, but rather it shows the signature as Valid with Changes (the pen & yellow triangle icon). Technically, that is the correct signature status, but because it caused so much confusion, beginning with version 9, we've changed the user interface and stopped indicating changes to the PDF if the only change is a subsequent signature.
If on the other hand you are getting the red X for the first signature please let me know as I'd be curious to see the file.

  • How to create table for XML schema-based Interface form

    Hi All,
With tcode SFP to crate  a XML schema-based Interface form, how to create a defined table can be listed in "Data View"?
Just like APAP Dictonary- Based Interface form, that we can drag  a defined table from data view to the panel.

    Hi,
    Just follow these steps:
    1. Create interactive form UI element in your view.
    2. Now provide Datasource and PDFSOURCE to it in form properties.
    3. Now give a template name prefix with 'Z' or 'Y'.
    4. Double click on it. It will prompt for interface name.
    5. Provide interface name prefixed with 'Z' or 'Y'.
    6. Click on Context button in the Pop up window and provide the node you have selected as DATASOURCE.
    7. Click ok and it will open the form designer.
    8. In this way you can create a XML Schema based Form.
    9. Activate the interface and design the form providing layout type and other details.
    Hope it will help.

Plz help me in this regards

Thanks very much Mylenium for your help - I've scoured the file looking for everything you mention, and there anything fancy at all. I'm using no time-stretching or remapping, simply putting a text layer on top of a video, and moving its in and out points. No blurs or odd keyframes as far as I can tell. Video and comp are both 29.97 framerate (comp created using "New comp from selection").

  • Assigning a user to multiple workspaces ans schemas

    All,
Is there a way to assign multiple workspaces and schemas to a single user? If so, how?
    Thanks in advance.

The way it works is...a workspace can be associated with multiple "parse-as schemas". An application developed in that workspace can use any one of those schemas. An application can use only 1 parsing schema.
When you create a developer userid in a workspace, you can either give him access to all the schemas associated with that workspace or restrict to a subset of schemas.
    Hope this helps

  • Which comes first?  The schema or the form?

I am new to livecycle, so please bear with me ;-)
My question is about schemas. Since my company does not have a "master" schema, we will be starting from scratch.
How does one begin? Do you create a schema first in a tool such as xmlSpy and then use that to create forms and bind the data? Or does one start by creating forms and then exporting the data from livecycle out to a schema (which then would also need to be bound back to the fields in the data view). For some reason I'm stuck thinking that starting by creating the form(s) first and exporting the data would be useful for growing your master schema.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
What the Paul said is actually correct. However most of the time form is changing a lot so you have to change the schema before changing the form if starting from schema.
If you design the document first, you can generate the schema later by using the exported data of the PDF. There exists some free tools to convert XML data to XSD schema.

  • Et_KEY_DOWN works in form-context mode only

    Hi!
We have to implement a function similar hot-key functionality using SDK-UI.
Nowadays we are using version 2004C and the problem is that et_Key_Down event fires only in form-context.
It means that there is no any key-press event if none form is active at the moment.
Even main-menu form (command center) isn't a 'form' in this case (we think the reason is in lack of any 'focus-receiving' control)
Is it possible to catch et_KEY_DOWN while command-center only is opened or no any form is opened?
Could anyone check the issue on 2005 (better, 2006 in case of SAP employee) version and/or suggest a solution (not using WinAPI) for it?
    Kind regards,
    Alexey

    Hi Alexey!
We are using SAP Business One 2005A and
    there exist an "et_Form_Key_Down" Event!
Private Sub SBO_Application_ItemEvent(ByVal FormUID As String, ByRef pVal As SAPbouiCOM.ItemEvent, ByRef BubbleEvent As Boolean) Handles SBO_Application.ItemEvent
            If pVal.Before_Action = False Then
                If pVal.EventType = SAPbouiCOM.BoEventTypes.et_FORM_KEY_DOWN Then
                    Select Case pVal.CharPressed
                        Case "122"
                            SBO_Application.MessageBox("hello")
                    End Select
                End If
            End If
    End Sub

  • How to copy one schema into another

I need to copy one schema into another. That means, all the tables, views, constraints, etc, and all the data as well.
I have a dmp file of source-schema (created daily with expdp by our backup schedule).
Can I use impdp to import this dmp file into dest-schema? I'm thinking about something like this:
The dmp file was created with:
    expdp source-schema/pwd DIRECTORY=dmpdir DUMPFILE=myproject.dmp
Create the copy on dest-schema with:
    impdp dest-schema/pwd DIRECTORY=dmpdir DUMPFILE=myproject.dmp
(dest-schema is an existing schema on the same machine. I'll drop all the tables before executing the command. Is there anything else I should do first?)
If this approach is not feasible, kindly suggest me an alternative.
    Thank you.
Edited by: mgro on Apr 16, 2010 3:22 AM (changed 2nd command: expdp to impdp)

Thank you both. Dean, I've made a note of your proposed command. May use it next time.
In the end I used the following command and it worked for me. I added TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=REPLACE since the destination was not empty.
First I ran these command logged in as SYS
    GRANT Import Full Database TO dest-schema;
    GRANT Create Any Directory TO dest-schema;
    GRANT Unlimited Tablespace TO dest-schema;
    impdp
    dest-schema/pwd
    DIRECTORY=dmpdir
    DUMPFILE=myproject.dmp
    REMAP_SCHEMA=source-schema:dest-schema
    TABLE_EXISTS_ACTION=REPLACE
    LOGFILE=implog.log
There were some errors though. The import process complained about constraints referencing non-existent primary keys.
It turns out that the source schema has some constraints that are marked with status DISABLED. These constraints either:
    - are not part of the DUMP file
    or
    - are in the DUMP file but skipped during import
Don't know if this is a bug or by design behavior.
