.mac and iWeb Publishing

Recently I subscribed a .mac trial account because I wanted to try iWeb and iPhoto 6 Photocasting.
When I publish a webpage from iWeb to .Mac, it'll pop up the login window, asking me to login. I clicked the login button and i typed my .mac account information. I tried to publish again and the same thing happens (.Mac account said my password is valid)
When I select an album and share by photocasting in iPhoto, it says I haven't set up my account (again, I input info. in my .mac settings already).
What's going on? Trial account won't work with iLife?
But I can use my iDisk... that's so weird...
What's wrong?

This is strange. During the slow run of the iWeb publish, I pulled up network tools and did a traceroute. It very slowly did its thing and came up with the a route to idisk.mac.com. Shortly thereafter, iWeb suddenly started uploading at a reasonable (for iWeb) speed. Any idea if this could be related to my running of traceroute?

  • Syncing my 2 Macs and iWeb with .mac

    Hello people...
I am having troubles with iWeb. I started using it today for the first time. I love very easy to use and looks great.
My problem is this... I use 2 macs and want iWeb to update changes made on both of the machines. Example : I update a page at work then publish, all is good. When I get home I would like to make more changes to the page. This is the problem. I know all the files are stored locally (library-application support-iWeb/ domain.sites) before they are published but I don't really want to copy the domain.site file everytime I move machines or make updates.
I was hoping iWeb would check with your .mac account and update iweb on both of my machines.
Doe's anyone know if th iweb does check .mac?
    Thanks in advanced..

This is from will and it worked on my files, thanks! before I had just ported the domain file without opening and saving in iWeb and it just drew a blank page but if you open iweb first and THEN save and THEN replace the domain file you should be fine
"""""I have not done it, but from reading other posts I believe that this is what you need to do. If you have already done this then i apologize
Open iWeb without your copied domain file in place.
Add a page and then close iWeb, choosing to save, this creates a domain.site file so that IWeb knows where to look.
Move this newly created domain.sites file elsewhere.
Copy your other domain.site file into: User / Library / Application Support / iWeb / Put it in this folder.
Reopen iWeb and you should be looking at the site you created on the other Mac.

This may not be the right way to do it but I have a solution that works for me. I've had a little trouble trying to describe it; but the essential aspect is that the 2 calendars are actually calendar groups which have sub-calendars which are unique to them and there is one calendar which is 'shared' between them. To publish them I drag the shared calendar to the calendar group that I want to publish, click the button and when it's finished I drag it to the other one and then publish that. This enables both calendars to appear with the shared info without the need for double entries.

  • New to Mac and iWeb, was use to Dreamweaver on a PC

    Hi All
I am a newbie to Macs, I have been publishing my web site via Dreamweaver for a few years. I have seen the iWeb application on my Mac but for the life of me I can not see how I can import my site to the iWeb application and publish from here, from now on.
Hopefully I can then just use the Apple applications instead of having loads of different applications on here.
After looking over all the menu options I found nothing to help me out on the above, I can see that you can create a .Mac account... I am not sure why I would need this when I already have various accounts for hosting companies.
Does anyone know the easiest way to I can add a message board to my site and let people send me files to my email, I understand I will need CGI scripts or something like that, just wondered if there was any easier tools...???
Would be great if I could get a little advise.
    thank you all in advance.

Not sure if I made it clear or not.
My web pages (folder/directory) has been copied to my Mac. I cant see how I can open/import my site so that I can view/edit/republish my site using iWeb from now on.

  • Using a domain name with .mac and iWeb

How does one go about linking a domain name to the iWeb pages/ .mac account?
In other words, I don't want to have to give out the long web.mac.com/blahblahblah/site
name, I'd like to just have a domain name.

    Dottonedan...
I have replied to your thread over here...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=647660&tstart=0
You might want to have a look at the public DNS service that I posted about.
What you are looking for is basically a domain name server that will accept your domain name and be able to translate the words into the numbers like you mention. That's what DNS servers do. There are LOTS of DNS servers on the internet and once you get your domain name hooked into one the information will propagate within days if not hours, making your domain name functional.
Anyways, look back at the thread you started and you'll see my post there... we'll start there and get you squared away sooner or later, i'm sure.

  • New to mac and iWeb

Can I use iWeb with third party CSS? We have bought a set of pre-configured CSS web templates for our business, and would like to use iWeb's ease of use to manage and update, but can not seem to find a way for iWeb to recognize them.

Unfortainately iWeb doesn't work that way. You can however build some pretty creative websites using iWeb. Here is a link to my site that has a small taste of what I have done with iWeb. http://www.jeffnitschke.com/Web.html

  • New to mac and iweb, starting point?

hi good people, never created a website before so does someone have a list of things to do and in what order etc, its a business site i will create, i have a domain but no host yet, its best to avoid mm by all accounts. As i am in the UK so is there a good host with good support that people recommend? My domain is with Daily who seem good but i don't really no. should i have a linux package?
I purchased a couple of ebooks, iwebfaq & iweb4business but at this stage they seem a bit daunting and they seem to go very deep into tech jargon before explaining the basics and where to start, but no doubt they will prove to be very reference in good time.
Now whats the first things to do.
Anyone got a checklist or something similar?

    Welcome to the discussions.

  • Links are broken, and iWeb won't publish to .mac

    Hi,
Just installed ilife and immediately ran update, and tried to continue editing/updating my site.
After publishing, the look of the page was fine, however, all the links to my blog entries were broken. Tried republishing, changing themes, and other to get it fixed. Still links are broken.
Now I am getting this error from .mac and iWeb:
An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/My_Page/Blog/Entries”. Try publishing again later.
Is this a known problem thats being fixed?
I hear of lots of people having problems. Any ideas? Anyone?

Well, I first took a lot out of my site by deleting from my Idisk so I could go down to a small site to be published. I checked on my sign in with .mac and discovered my husband's signin was current...not mine, so I changed that to mine. then proceeded and was successful. Hated taking down so much but it is still in Iphoto so can reconstruct.
For some reason I was getting a Publishing Error message so I would recommend checking on your settings for your .mac signin. i still am showing that I have 4.95GB in my site. I just need to reconnect some of my links and then all should be fine. Good luck.

  • Help! I reinstalled my Mac and erased my iWeb page in the program. Its published, is there any way to download the pages from Mobile Me?

Help! I reinstalled my Mac and erased my iWeb page in the program. Its published, is there any way to download the pages from Mobile Me?

To download your pages from MobileMe simply mount your iDisk.
Then navigate to the Web > Sites folder where the pages are.
You can't do anything with them however, since iWeb cannot import them. But it's nice to know that you can download them.
You need the domain.sites2 files, iWeb uses to store its assets. Perhaps you have a backup?
See this page for pictures and movies to learn how to use the domain file :

  • General inquiry - Why ar .Mac and publishing/accessing iWeb sites so slow??

    Greetings,
I do realize that that general topic has been addressed somehow many times, in whole or in parts. I am just shooting for a general update on the subject(s).
I have grown fond of iWeb and just renewed my .Mac subscription. I am also a user of Dreamweaver and FrontPage. I just find the iWeb/.Mac combination so straight forward and... irresistible fun to play with!
BUT, before i commit more to that environment, I need to know - again:
    1. Why is .Mac/iDisk so slow in access?
    2. Correspondingly, publishing to .Mac and iDisk is slow. Why, actually?
    3. Difficulties in accessing iWeb sites published to .Mac/iDisk when using InternetExplorer (which, whether we want it or not, IS the predominant browser out there...). We know Firefox is better at it.
    4. Ultimately, would publishing iWeb sites to other servers (I have a couple of non-iWeb websites currently hosted elsewhere) make publishing AND accessing such sites speedier?
I will appreciate any advice, input, assessment.
    - Roger T

I think it's because it's more a social server with a lot of server side features available for .Mac users and iLife applications. Therefore there's a fair amount of server work when users use it for email, web sites with slideshows, backing up, etc. A commercial server will be much faster. There are othesr here that know more about servers than I and can give you a more technical explanation. But you're right, it is slow but convenient.

  • Publish to .mac AND other server

    Question:
I already publish to .mac - no problems there. I need to publish another website on another server. I published to a folder, used Fetch to upload it - works great (I know I lose some of iWeb's features, but that can't be helped).
Here is my question - now when I publish to .mac - the second site I created for the other server loads on my .mac space also. This is not a huge deal - I have no links from one site to the other, it just seems like a waste of space. Is there a way I can choose to upload only my primary site to .mac and not the other one as well?
    Scott

    Hi Scott,
The best thing to do in your case is to separate your two sites into two separate Domain files. That way the two sites can be edited and published independently from one another, so you don't have to have both sites uploaded to .Mac.
If you are in sort of the beginning stages of doing this second site, it might be easiest to start over in a new Domain file. If however, you do not wish to start over with the second site, then splitting off this second site to another Domain file can be done as well.
I'll refer you to a page put up by Mark Heaton (Apnewbie) on the process of domain separation...
    http://web.mac.com/mark8heaton/iWeb/DomainSeparation
You might also find this iWeb helper application called "iWebSites" useful in managing your multiple domain files and creating new domain files, etc...

  • Publish to .mac and redirect

Is it possible to publish a site I made with iweb to .mac and then have it redirected to another domain name?

They are asking for the IP address but I only know
the URL. What do I do to redirect to .mac now?
You can't use the IP address, only the URL. If the people you are working with will not offer you the kind of "Domain Forwarding" service that uses the URL (sometimes they want to charge extra), you will need to change the place where you have your domain name.

  • IWeb publishes, but there is no change to the site on .MAC

I have had a recent problem, where i apply changes in iWeb, publish them successfully (according to the program) and then try and visit them to find an unchanged site.

  • Iweb publishing and udate problems

I can't get my iweb sites to publish at .mac, and I can't get iweb to check for updates.
I can upload to my idisk, I can get other Apple updates, all other web connections are working fine. I can publish the web site to a folder, including one on my idisk. I did publish a test (garbage) iweb site about a month ago, when I first got this machine, and the only way I was able to get rid of it was deleting the files from the idisk. Which I only did after trying to publish the most recent updates.
The error mesages I get are:
"The update server could not be contacted. Check your Internet connection or try again later." (when I try and update iweb)
"There was an error determining the .Mac publish configuration values. Please try again in a few minutes." (when I try and publish) I have tried the button and both publish choices on the file menu.

Use the second option shown on this page to publish to a local folder...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
The double click the index.html file to launch your site in the browser.
Make any changes in iWeb and republish.
iWeb stores the website data in a Domain.sites2 file. See this page...

  • .mac required for iWeb publishing?

I just need to confirm that I do not need to renew my subscripion to .mac to continue using iWeb. I think I'd rather upgrade my iWeb software and continue publishing to my other host service. This is possible, yes?
    Thanks so much.

Now that Apple has made it very difficult to upload more than one site to .Mac you are probably better off staying with your commercial hosting service.
Although one click publishing is very easy and convenient, if you want the average surfer to stop by and look at your site you will have to optimize it for faster download. This means that you have to publish to a folder first even if you are using .Mac. The average surfer is not going to wait more than a very few seconds for your page to download so optimizing is more or less essential.
The application I use, Web Site Maestro, now optimizes JPEGs and the difference is VERY noticeable on a page with a lot of photos.
.Mac is fine and convenient for personal websites but I would not consider using it for business or commercial sites. I shouldn't think Apple ever intended it to be used for this purpose.
