Multistep background job, one step fails

If I schedule and run a multistep job. That is each step runs an ABAP program, and the first step fails, do the succeeding steps run or are they not run.

If one step fail the job will stop, the rests of the steps will not be executed. simply because is a chain of events, once the chain is broken the process stop.

Check to see if the option "Step Failure Causes Sequence Failure" is set for this step on the Run Options tab of the Step Properties dialog box. If it is set and the failure is not propagating, please attach an example sequence that causes the behavior that you are referencing.

Background Job Run - Error Msg

Hi all,
When i run my report as background job it is failing.
In report i have checked one condition n if that do not satisfy it will give error. but in any situation the background job fails though condition satifies but the spool is getin created.
when i debug the report it gives no error in that report but after it gives System message '' Job cancelled after system exception ERROR_MESSAGE''.
any guidelines will be appreciated...

it is not giving me any dump or something neither my report contains any popup window.
thing is that i am checking one error value at the event END-OF-SELECTION and giving some error mesg depending upon that.
when i check this in debug mode in background mode itself (thr' JDBG or SM50) the value of error mesg is empty...so idealy the report is executed fine but when after words i go for F8 it gives me that error message.

SAP job SAP_COLLECTOR_FOR_PERFMONITOR getting failed with abap dump LOAD_PROGRAM_NOT_FOUND

Dear Experts,
Background job SAP_COLLECTOR_FOR_PERFMONITOR getting failed with abap dump LOAD_PROGRAM_NOT_FOUND.
As it is hourly scheduled job and it gets finished 22 times in a day but other 2 times fails with abap dump.

Maintaining Billing due list as the background job

Hi everybody,
Can any one explain me how to run the billing due list (SDBILLDL) as a background job in step by step procedure.
I need to restrict by billing with respect to the delivery created by (LIKP_ERNAM) hence I need to insert a field delivery created by and restrict my billing due list with this as a key field. Can any one explain me what are the call functions, user exists for this.

You can create Proforma invoices as many as u can for out bound delvivery. But it does not effect any GL transactions until it is actually billed with VF01 and billin type with F2 or F1..
So even u have created Proforma invoice for that delivery but still actual invoice has to be billed. That is the reason it is in billing due list..
In VF04 please put billing type as F5 or F8 then see delviery will not be displayed in Billing due list...

Handling the failures of more than one step..

So I have a package it has several steps, all of which run independtly. They are concerned with the generation of text files.
The steps work, but I want to include good error handling.
This is one of four Groups I have created, each with similar tasks inside.
Lets take an example, of one group, I have attached a picture of the kind of failure I am trying to Trap.
It seems it goes at the end of this post.
Anyway, what I would like in the below example is, an email is sent to support stating:
- The TaskName(s) that failed.
- The ErrorDescription(s).
For instance, in my example I deliberately set the overwrite to false, but I know there is a file there, so it would always fail.
I tried some OnError logging for the job but it doesn't work.
I also tried OnTask failure logging for the job but it doesn't work.
The best I ever managed is an email with ONE of the failures on it, but I want one email with both failures on, (or all failures on, or 1 failure on, depedendent upon what fails).
If that is 100% not possible, then I guess it might be OK (but it isn't really what I want) to get individual emails for each component. What is the best way to meet this requirement? fyi, if scripting is involved I use Visual Basic.

I am creating a job that handles errors, using Event Handlers - On Error (see below).
The point is that the dataflow task basically outputs the error message into a Variable (with Type Object).
Then later, I include this on an email, saying the job has failed and this was the error we got.
That all works fine, but as you can see I want to point more than one step into the error email.
We can do so with an Or for OnError's.
This is OK, but what I've noticed is that results are variable when more than one step fails:
- For instance, I've set the job up on purpose so that two steps fail > the result is that you
might get 1 email, but you might get more than one email. It's unpredictable; I wondered if there is a way round this!

How define background job, after a job, daily

i need to create several Jobs, one after another. i'm working with R/3 enterprise.
I can create a Job after another, but I can't put it daily.
anyone knows how I can define job, after a specific job, daily???

If you want to execute the Background jobs one by one(sequence order),
Goto SM36 and create a Background job, then create another job then press Start condition, in this one there is a tab after JOB, here give the job name, os the will be run after this job complets
another way is there, if you want to run the jobs in a sequence, there is a TAB called STEP, create a Job name then press the tab STEP, here give the first job name then press the create button then create the second job name.. like this you can give N number of background Programs one by one

Periodic Scheduling of sequencial background job

I schedule monthly & weekly planning jobs. These jobs are scheduled one after another in a sequence. frequency of running these jobs is fix hence I want to schedule it on periodic basis. It possible for me to schedule single background job periodically but I don't know how to schedule sequncial backgorund jobs on periodic basis.

for execution of single job periodically I am following the same procedure mentioned by you.
I scheduled background jobs one after another by clicking on start condition & in pop-up select "After job". this way I schedule 7 to 8 jobs one after another.
So in first scheduled job you will find 7 to 8 successor jobs.
Now if I try to make it periodic, then only first job becomes periodic & successor jobs doesn't get released periodically.
I want to make entire chain of jobs to be scheduled peiodic.

How to cancel scheduled background job?

I have used FM 'HR_START_BATCHJOB_IN_OTHER_SYS' to schedule background job.
Some mistake has happend and this FM calling has gone to infinite loop. So, now the system is keep on generating background job. I tried looking into SM36 to stop this background job but i failed.
Can anybody help me how to stop scheduled background job please.

Hi,
Check which background process your job is running from the Job details and inform your Basis consultant to Kill the process. If you have sm50 acess or sm66 access you can do the same.

Automatic Background Jobs Monitoring

Hi,
I'd like to ask how to setup an alert to the background job if it fails to run. How is it done in K1P box?
What I'd like to happen is to have a message sent out to the jobs owner it encountered any problems. I work in the Support Team and I'd like my team be informed automatically (via email or anything) without contacting the K1P box Owner.

You can create a query using SQ1. Tables you need are /SAPAPO/LISMAP and /SAPAPO/LISLOG. The query can help you to sort or order the jobs based on the status message type and many other parameters.

Printing inmediately works in one step but fails in other step of same job

Hello all,
I´m defining a job in SM37 with 2 steps which both of them should be printed inmediately. For this reason in each step I define "print out inmediately" in print specifications>properties>time of printing-->print out inmediately. The strange thing is that only works in one step (works means is printed inmediately) but in the other it doesn´t and I get the message SY355 "spool request without inmediate output"
In Default Tab of user who is running both steps is not marked "output inmediately" but as far as I know it is not needed (that´s the reason we marked the option in the steps of the job).
I changed the option f time of printing from "print out inmediately" to "print later" and back again to "print out inmediately" but it didn´t work. I deleted the step of the job and recreated again but it didn´t work.
I have the same job with 2 steps defined in other SAP systems and are working properly (same version but probably different patching). The version of the system is ECC 6.0.
Any ideas?

We dind´t find the reason to this behaviour but we did a workaround: define a third step with program rspo0065 which print spool orders.

Scheduling one background job inside another

Is it possible to Scheduling one background job inside another.? i.e In my Z program I am calling job_open, job_submit, job_close and to execute one standard report in background. And after that I am executing my Z program itself from SE38 as Program->Execute->Background->Execute Immediately. Is this logically correct? I am asking this because I am not getting the desired result

First schedule the Standard job and in the job steps schedule the z report.

How to find Spool number for a 2 steps background job.

How to find spool number (and also the background job name ) for a 2 steps background job.
in the table TBTCO i can see step numbers but i dont get the spool number. Is there any link between TBTCO and TSP01.
Also after getting the spool number i need to drill down on ALV report. I hard coded the spool number and was able to drill down using BDC and call transaction but when i press back button it is not returning to the ALV report.

Which one creates the spool? (first one I guess)
What kind of spool? (WRITE, sapscript, smartform, pdf...)
Do you use special statements like NEW-PAGE, or other things?
Are you sure that the spools are generated by these jobs? (did you compare the spool generation times and job run dates to be sure...)

Program works but background job for that program fails....

I have a requirement where I have to collect the details of the purchase order and put the details in XML file format and FTP the XML file to an external third party FTP Server.
To realize this I developed a report program which follows following logic.
1) First I collected the PO details by calling the BAPI BAPI_PO_GETDETAIL1.
2) Then using the following link "/people/r.eijpe/blog/2005/11/10/xml-dom-processing-in-abap-part-i--convert-an-abap-table-into-xml-file-using-sap-dom-approach
I converted these PO details to the XML file format that the third party people accept.
 In the code I used u201CCALL METHOD cl_gui_frontend_services=>gui_downloadu201D and in this process first the XML file is generated and is getting stored on my deskytop.
3) Then I called HTTP_SCRAMBLE, FTP_CONNECT, FTP_COMMAND , FTP_DISCONNECT and RFC_CONNECTION_CLOSE.
This works perfectly well and each time I execute the report the file is getting FTPu2019ed to the third party FTP server.
Now I tried to schedule a batch job for this and the batch job fails with follwing errors

Adding a new step in existing background job

I have a background job which has 14 steps. I have to add a new program in 15th step. Can any one let me know how to go ahaed with that?

Go to SM37, go to the "released" version of your job. I assume that it is a periodic job, hence there should be a released version of it. select it and click from the menu, Job--->Change. Click the Steps button from the appliation tool bar, now click the create button. Enter the name of the abap program, click check, and save. That's it.
