Multitrack - Adobe Audition 2.0

I am using Multitrack to make a montage of song clips (Bounce to New Track).
Obviously each track varies in volume slightly. When I create a Mixdown, AA 2.0 seems to do some form of normalization or limiting. Looking at the Mixdown some of the tracks are louder than the originals. I am not using any gain or any of the effects.
Why does it do this, and is there any way to turn this off? All I want is the Mixdown - I do not want AA 2.0 to do anything to the volume of the tracks when it creates the Mixdown.
Thank you in advance!

Audition doesn't do any sort of anything that you haven't told it to - whether you realised it at the time you were doing it or not. There is no form of normalization or limiting applied to any tracks at all unless it's specifically selected to be there, so whatever you are doing, it's categorically not Audition's fault - or we'd have noticed this a long time ago, believe me. But since you are using Bounce to New Track, rather than a mixdown, and that uses a straightforward dB addition process, it's inevitable that results will be a little strange - it's completely the wrong tool to use.
The one thing that you will notice very directly when using bounce to new track is that there will be a -3dB level shift in the new track, because of the way that the panning control works. If you don't want that to happen, then go to Edit>Preferences>Multitrack and select Left/Right Logarithmic for your stereo panning mode. And if you make this change, you will have to restart Audition completely before it takes effect (bold because for some reason, people keep overlooking this step). This setting applies to the entire mixer, incidentally.
Anyway, if you want your montage to sound correct, then the thing to do is to do a proper mixdown - having checked that it actually sounds okay in Multitrack View. Because then, you'll get what you want. So you go to File>Export>Audio Mixdown and select the options you want - in this case, from the master output, and then name a file to save it to. When you click okay, the file will be created and automatically open up in Edit View.

  • Lost some Audio on the multitrack of Adobe Audition 3

I know that this discussion pertains to the Audition problems past CS5.5, but I need major help with something that happened in Adobe Audition 3.  I have a file that I may of resaved a file or something and then it started showing up almost as missing.  If you look closely at the picture you can see some of the audio files have red lines, but then when I click on files with the red lines you can still go into the edit mode of the audio file.  This is the second time it happened to me.  This is a problem that happened to me only this week and I didn't have it before.  I loaded up the same project that I had on my other external hard drive where the problems didn't exist when I saved them, but then the same problems came up on my backup drive!  I loaded my Adobe Audition 3 disk in and had it repair the program and that still didn't work.  I never uninstalled Adobe Audition 3.  Does anyone think I should uninstall AA3 and reinstall it?  I thought that maybe having Adobe Audition CC would cure this problem.  I downloaded it and I saved the multitracks as an xxl file and the problem still exists on Adobe Audition CC.  Is anyone familar with this bizzare problem?  What makes the problem more bizzare is the fact that the problem also occured on the backup drive and I am 100% positive that the problem didn't exist when I put it on my backup drive.  Can anyone help me with this problem?

The three clips all look like they belong to the same file - I assume that is the file that "started showing up almost as missing"
What exactly does 'almost as missing' mean?
Does the file exist in the location referenced?
What happens if you drag that audio file into another session?

  • Adobe Audition CRASHED. Multitrack is scrambled. PLEASE HELP!!!

Hello. Can someone please help me!!!
I Just finished editing my vocal tracks in Adobe Audition and the whole sound session was playing well I pressed save. The computer was saving all what I was working on but crashed. I re opened Adobe and all of my tracks are out of place and scrambled all over. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? I listen to the tracks in edit view and the sound files sound fine. But it’s when in multitrack view all the sound files are scrambled.
    Can someone please help me???
    [email protected]
    Thank You.

    Hello Everybody.
Thank you therealdobro and Suite Spot for your responses.
After breaking down, leaving my house, storming through town, flailing my hands in the air, kicking the air and saying the F word multiple times I finally came home to then find myself breaking down some more on my hands and knees saying the F word more multiple times and crying on the floor worse then a little kid having a temper tantrum or someone having one of their body parts cut off. But I would mostly compare my actions to someone losing a loved one and breaking down mixed with a mental patient in an insane asylum in a strait jacket wanting to escape and go back to when things were normal and happy.
So as a few hours of insanity passed I then called a friend to ask of is there any way at all to restore my computer to a former date and time? My friend told me that I can use system restore. So I did. But long story short system restore didn’t work so I started to break down again but also somehow kept hope that system restore may just work if I keep trying. I kept trying multiple times but once again it didn’t work. I then finally had one last breakdown and decided to move all of my 35 tracks into proper place by ear and hand.
So… Ask me how I’ am doing now? Well… 10 hours later after putting the puzzle together by ear and hand I now have a finished song that sounds better than it did in the first place. I must give the glory to Jesus though because without him guiding me through this extremely torturing time I would still be curled in a ball sucking my thumb and wanting to die.
So once again thank you therealdobro and Suite Spot for your responses. And although I fixed it all by hand and ear, therealdobro you were right (Allthough I checked Adobe forums after I fixed it, lol) also thank you Suite Spot for volunteering to look into my session and see if you could do anything to fix it. I thank you a lot.
Ps. If any of you would like to hear the complete song when it is done being mastered let me know and I would be more than happy to show you.
GOD Bless In Jesus Name, Amen.

  • Adobe Audition 2.0 can't open Multitrack Option

I have Adobe Audition 2.0.  Everything has been working fine until today.  I am no longer able to open the Multitrack Option.  All of my .ses files will open on the left, but I am unable to get into the Mulitrack to view or edit them.  Also when I try to load a session, it does not pull it underneath the supported media. (.ses files).  When I try to open up the .ses files alone, it opens AA2, I then get a shutting down..to continue working where you left off, please restart Audition.  I click yes, and I get the Runtime R6025 pure virtual call.  So fustrated! I have not done anything different to my computer.  If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated!

Ok. I will do that and tonight and hopefully it will work. Thanks for responding!

  • Adobe Audition CS6 and Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire multitrack problem

I have the Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire mixer and am using Adobe Audition CS6 for my recording program.
I'm trying to connect 4 microphones via XLR and have them run in individual channels in Audition but I can't get more than 2 to show up on the program even though I have 3 plugged in right now. On top of that, I have to run input 1 and input 2 as mono channels instead of stereo channels to get it to work at all.
I'm looking to do a Podcast with my set up, is there a better program to use to record and edit? Or am I missing a driver for Audition or the Multi Mix?
    Thanks!

Well, first the easy bit.  Microphones ARE mono devices so using mono channels is absolutely correct.
Beyond that, you mention drivers.  There are no special drivers for Audition but it is worth going to http://www.alesis.com/multimix8firewire to see if there are any driver updates for your mixer.
You don't mention what Operating System you're using but whichever it is, you should go to the Audio Setup page for Windows (i.e. not in Audition) and make sure it's detecting all the channels from the Alesis properly.  You may have to set the Alesis as your default audio device for this.
On the Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware Setup menu in Audition, make sure you have the proper device type selected--I'd guess ASIO for a start.  Make sure your Alesis is selected as the default hardware.
On the Edit/Preferences/Audio Channel Mapping menu, make sure you can see all the channels from your Alesis.
Finally, on the Multitrack screen, set the Input for each track to be the appropriate channel from the Alesis.  If you're going to do this regularly, I recommend you get everything set up then save it as a Session template.
And I can't think of anything better than Audition for what you want to do...that's why it's used in thousands of radio stations around the world!

  • Popping sounds in the multitrack in Adobe Audition CC

I've been using Adobe Audition CC for a week now and have been having some problems with it.  Sometimes there would be random pop sounds during the multi-track.  The random pop sounds would sometimes come at certain sections of the multitrack, but I wouldn't hear them later.  I would play the individual audio files and sometimes they weren't there.  Does anyone know what could be wrong?  Do I have to change some settings?  I ran Adobe Audition 3 a few weeks ago on my Windows 8.1 system and never had any problems with popping sounds .  With CC I get pops for some reason.  I have a custom made computer that is supposed to have high performance.  Is there anything I should change in bios mode?  The multitrack that I'm using is around 40 minutes, and is on 11 tracks.  I don't know if that has anything to do with that.
The computer I have is a custom made computer desktop that I custom made for working with music.  It's an i7 and the most powerful computer I have ever owned.  I have serious doubt that it's my computer.  My computer is new and runs fast.  As I said before, I'm running Windows 8.1 and it didn't have any problems with popping sounds when running on Adobe Audition 3 previously.  I think it probably has something to do with bugs in the program itself.  Has anyone experienced these problems?  If so, did you fix them?  Or does Adobe plan to fix them?  I have contacted Adobe once through email and sent a complaint through Adobe Audition's support system and heard from nobody.  So far, Adobe Audition has not sent me any patches or anything.  Adobe Audition CC is insanely expensive. I'm paying around $220 or $240 a year for a program that already has serious flaws.

    Hi there,
(My first post! I signed up/logged in specifically to ask about this problem, which I am also having.)
I am using an old Mackie mixer -> MBox 2 -> iMac. I have used this same basic setup for last few years, and this problem is sudden and new.
It sound like digital clipping/distortion, but is clearly not happening during the peaks of waveform. The input to Mbox is clear thru headphone monitor, I can't hear anything - but when played back, intermittent and audible pops/hits are happening.
My suspicion is that it is from the USB to the Mac; there are three USB inputs on the iMac and since the Mbox is powered via USB, I think the noise is being introduced there. I tried two outta the three ports (guess I should try the third - why did I stop there? Oh right - coffee!) So far I seem to have best luck when no other programs are running, restart the computer before every session, but otherwise I am just crossing my fingers!
I'll check back on this thread, as I need this ghost OUT of my machine! ~ Jim

  • What do I need to multitrack? I have Adobe Audition 1.5

What do I need to multitrack. I can't seem to get any answer other than through a USB. I had a bad experience with USB (M-Auidio fast track) and I don't have firewire. I am using a Dell inspiron 1200 with an Auidigy 2 ZS (notebook) and Adobe Audition. From what I understand This soundcard has a S/PDIF in? It shows up on my play control as one of the options. Do I need a specific interface or mixer or can I use any mixer? Right now I am using my mixer as well as others (when recording live performances) and I am using the tape/record-out to go from the mixer into my optical in. It requires a cable with the white and red to a standard 1/8 inch jack. What do I have to do in order to multitrack. There has to be something other than USB or firewire. Please help me with this questions. I can't seem to get answers anywhere.

What are you going to do there? How many and which type inputs do you need?
    A2 ZS Notebook has as
    Audio Inputs
Multipurpose input, used for analog line-level input, mono microphone input, or optical SPDIF, for 3.50 mm (1/8-inch) connectors and a Speaker docking cable connector
So, you can record two analog mono signals or one mono microphone or through one S/PDIF at once.
There are, as CardBus/PCMCIA devices, two Creative/E-MU models available; 1616 and 1616M, which both do have some more I/Os vs. A2 ZS Notebook but, those device are not cheap ones as SB line cards normally are.
I recommend FireWire device. There are cheap but good ones like Hercules FW 16/12 (16 inputs/12 outputs) under 300US$ (retail price ~800US$), and cheapest one might be a device from Behringer; FCA-202 which street price is under 100US$.
E-MU launches a nice USB device 0404 soon (if not yet out) which seem to have quite good technical specs and even ~low price --> ~200US$.

  • Adobe Audition CS6 (5.0.1) update patch released

UPDATE:  A new 5.0.1 update build has been made available as of July 20, 2012, due to an issue discovered in the Dynamics Processing effect.  If you previously updated Adobe Audition CS6, please visit the links below and install the new update.  This update is not available via Adobe Update Manager and must be downloaded via the website.
Today we released an update to address several bugs in Audition CS6. Many were minor workflow issues, but a few could cause Audition to crash under certain circumstances.
Download the patch installer directly from:
    Windows: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5419
    Mac: http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5418
bugs fixed in Adobe Audition CS6 5.0.1 update:
APE files with metadata inserted by other editors cause Audition to crash (Windows)
If previous session directory no longer exists, Audition leaves the Folder Location field empty
Multitrack fades no longer respect the fade type preference.  (Worked in CS5.5)
Audition may crash when users choose to create unique copies of selected MT regions
Playback stutters when creating a unique copy of a clip while right-click dragging
Channel Mix settings not honored on export when not exposed in dialog
EUCON Soft Key set contains keys that do nothing
Session Tempo broken on systems using commas instead of decimal points
Bounce to New Track > Selected Track bounces AFTER passing through track output
If a favorite was recorded on subset of channels, the favorite will fail if those channels are disabled
Sending a stereo bus side-chained to a mono track may crash the application
UAD-2 plug-ins missing from Windows Effects menu
Audition may crash on launch when CoolType encounters certain installed fonts (Mac)

I'm really happy to see this update out, but I haven't been able to install it on my Mac yet.
The Updates item in the help menu is greyed out for me. When I try running the installer from the direct download it says 'Updates have been suppressed by your administrator.'
I can't imagine that I would have disabled updates.
    Any advice?

  • Adobe Audition Will Not Save, Export

    Hello,
I finished a project in Audition last night and went to export it. When I checked on the export process after a few minutes, it was stuck at 0%. I wanted to restart the program to see if that would fix the issue, so I attempted to save the multitrack session, but it still froze at 0%. I noticed that there were 4 files processing according to the status bar at the bottom of the program. I tried to end the processes, which were saving metadata for recorded files. Only one of the files stopped saving, and the other three are stuck at 66% no matter what I do. I woke up this morning to check the progress and all files are still at 66% with the remaining time increasing rather than decreasing.
I'm assuming the issue is that Audition can only process so many files at once, so it won't save or export while the other files are processing. Regardless, I need to find a way to save my project before force quitting the program. I would greatly appreciate any suggested solutions.
I am on Windows 8, using Adobe Audition CC 2014.1 Build 7.1.0.119. Here is a screenshot of what happens when I try to save:
Here is one of the files frozen while saving metadata:

Maybe check to see if there are other (non Audition) processes happening in the background and also maybe check the available disk size of both the drive where the audio is and the drive where your temp files are

  • Adobe Audition line-in Recording Problems

    Hello,
I've just started using windows 7, used to and still do use on other computers windows xp.
I installed adobe audition 1.5 on the computer with windows 7.
In xp you had to select line in, in the recording control to allow you to record if something was playing in the background.
    see images: .
I can't seem to enable this function in 7, so i can't sample anything playing in the back ground.
Has anyone had this problem, do you know how to sort this out, please help.
    kind regards
    Dan W

You can probably do what you want. But you probably need to adjust settings within Adobe Audition.
First, since this is a new PC, it's really important to get all your hardware drivers and Windows 7 itself totally up-to-date.  Keep going back to Windows Update until Win 7 says it has installed all the downloads it can find for your new PC. Win 7 is pretty good about updating itself as needed.  Just let it do its thing. And then be sure that when you go to a website like youtube.com and play a video, you can hear sound over the PC speakers.
You probably already know how to tell whether stream recording will work in Audition, but just to be clear, if you're playing a video at youtube.com for example, and you can hear the sounds over the PC speaker and you have Audition in Record mode, you should be seeing the sound level bars at the bottom of the display dancing in time with the sounds you hear.  If they're not dancing, stream recording will not work.
To fix this, in AA1.5, go to Options>Device Properties.  Hit the "Wave In" tab (at the top)--not "Wave Out".  Near the top left of the window that pops when you click "Wave In" will be a window with a small arrow to the right of it.  Click on that small arrow.  It will show you a list of devices Audition thinks might be used to record sounds within Audition.  But if stream recording isn't working, Audition may be picking the wrong device to use.
Here's how to try a different device in Audition which may get stream recording working.  Follow the directions carefully here.  It's easy to skip a step and then it won't work. Unfortunately, setting devices in AA1.5 is unnecessarily unintuitive, IMO. Click the Change button to the right of the device window with the little arrow on "Wave In" tab.   On Recording Devices tab at the top, select a device in the window on the left (Unused Record Devices).  I can't tell you for sure which one will work with your PC, as this depends to an extent on your sound hardware which will be different from mine.  But two good ones to try first are Monitor and Line In. Click the device you want to try so it's highlighted, and then click the Use button.  It will move over to the box on the right (Multitrack Device Preference Order).  Click the Move Up button on the bottom there until the device you're trying next is raised up to "1st". Then click "OK" (not "X" or "Cancel") to close this window.  The display will then show the previous window and the device you elevated to 1st position should now appear in the device window there.  To the right of the Change button is a small check box labeled "Use this device in Edit View."  Be sure this box is checked and then click OK (not "X" or "Cancel") to close this window.  In WinXP, it used to help at this point to close and reopen Audition though I'm not sure it helps with Win 7; but you don't need to reboot the PC.
Now try playing that video in youtube again.  Can Audition stream record it?  If not, go back as before to Recording Devices and try a different device until you've tried each one of them in 1st position, being very careful that you are clicking OK to exit the two windows there and that "Use this device in Edit View" is checked each and every time you try a different device.
If the bars dance during Record mode, but you hear nothing in Audition when you play back the file, stream recording is now working but you may need to go back to Device Properties as above and this time pick a different device in "Wave Out" tab so Audition playback is correctly passed to your PC speakers.
Once you get it working, I strongly recommend making notes somewhere that you'll be able to find again if you have to reinstall everything, because as I say, this stuff is not intutive, and unless you have notes on the correct settings and how to get them on your PC, you'll find yourself out at sea again if you have to reinstall.

  • "Bring to Front" hidden clips & deleting files after it's closed in Adobe Audition.

Hi everyone.  I need some help with Adobe Audition CS5.5 usage.  I have two concerns:
    1)  Back in Audition 3.0, there is this feature called "bring to front."  I use this feature mainly for recording over and over and over until I find a the perfect one or can go back to previous recordings that I did if I think I liked an older one better.  This feature seems to be gone in Audition CS5.5.  What work around do you suggest for being able to record until perfection but still being able to have all the old recordings?  Right now, the only thing that seems to work is record it, delete it from the Multitrack session, but the keep the file and reinsert it at a later time to play it back.  That is very time consuming if I have 20 versions of the exact same segment of a song.  What method do you use?  Cause I know most people don't get their singing/recording the way they like it the first time; there is more than likely going to be a Take 2.
    2)  Once delete a file from the Files pane on the left hand side, I usually go straight to the destination folder and delete it from there.  that way, I only have files that I want but the ones I definitely don't like are deleted.  With this new Audition CS5.5, once I delete it form the Files pane, the file is still associated with Audition and I can't delete it until I close Audition.  Is the away to make Audition release the file association after it has been closed?
Any help/suggesttions/tips would be VERY much appreciated.
    Thank you.  ^^

What I do when tracking say vocals is to set up a track record a take (could be a whole song or part thereof) if its good I'll usually drag that down to the next track, mute it and do another.
I may also record a section or whatever and find that its no good so I delete it straight away and record another take (ctrl Z, ctrl space) .
It may be that I like part of the take so I'll keep it, drag it down, mute the track and record another - I may do that 2 or 3 times.
As long as I have either the perfect take (sure), or enough parts to make a perfect take then I move on.
I only ever use the 'punch in' when I need to get a particular 'piece' otherwise its just easier to record the 'punch in' on one track while the talent listens to his other take and I mute the other take at the appropriate time - can be a little fiddly but when time is of the essence and you need to look like you know what you are doing, without having the talent standing around - you get the picture........
When I finally save the session I will 'close all unused media'.
Now as to 'unused takes' and being the 8th dwarf (lazy) I'll run http://www.mediasweeper.com.au to clean them - I'd usually do that once the project is blessed, boxed & buried.

  • Adobe Audition 3.0 (R6025 error on Windows 7)

I'm an Adobe Audition 3.0 user (on Windows 7). Yesterday the multitrack portion of my Audition program completely stopped working. I started getting the "to continue working where you left off, restart Audition" (R6025 errors). I went into the Documents and Settings folder and renamed the 3.0 folder in hopes that action would remove any corrupted files. That didn't work. I then reinstalled the disk in repair mode. Still didn't work. Finally I did the nuclear option of uninstalling Audition and reinstalling. That still won't let me access the multitrack function. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I strongly suggest - in fact this is probably the only thing you can do at this point - that you have a look at the FAQ here, and do exactly what it says.

  • Edit in Adobe Audition

    Hi!
In Premiere Pro CC, when I select Edit in Adobe Audition>Sequence for a multitrack file all the stereo tracks become mono tracks in Audition's Multitrack Tab.  They end up labelled: Audio 1_1 Audio 1_2 Audio 2_1 Audio 2_2.
    What's the reason for this?
How do I get the transfer of the stereo audio files to keep intact the fact that it's a stereo file?
    Kind Regards

The audio file is directly in the project window. If I select the audio file, which is a wave, I go to Edit->Edit Original and Adobe Audition CC opens just fine; my audio files are associated with Adobe Audition CC. However, the menu item right below, Edit in Adobe Audition is greyed out.
In Windows directly, by double clicking on the file, Adobe Audition CC opens the file without issue.
I also tested the same scenario in Adobe Premiere CC and the exact same issue is occurring there. In Adobe Premiere CC, it was the only thing in the project. I tried different wave files and they all had the same issue. In After Effects CC it is the same thing.
Do I need to reinstall Adobe Audition CC so the dynamic link recognizes the application is installed?

  • Adobe Audition CS6 and Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire choppy playback

I recorded a whole podcast using both Adobe Audition CS6 and Alesis Multimix 8 Firewire, and I originally played it back it was fine.  Now after a week I play it back in Adobe Audition and the dialogue is choppy and repeating itself constantly every second.   When I export it in a multitrack mixdown as a WAV file it still does the same choppy repeating thing.  Has anyone else run into this problem who has a fix?
    Thanks!

I don't use any Alesis products but have heard rumours in another forum that they're having some driver issues.
Maybe as an experiment you could export to a wave file and try playing that through your internal sound card rather than the Multimix.  If playback is clean when not involving the Multimix that may suggest the problem lies in the Alesis gear.  If the skipping is still there then something is likely going on within Audition.
