Music in itunes and on iPhone are different
I've just recently done the newest download for the iPhone 4, and now all of my music is different. The update changed my music on my phone but not in my library. So how do I fix it? For instance, something like a song from Spring Awakening, the library will read
Song: Mama Who Bore Me
Artist: SPRING AWAKENING
Album: Lea Michele
the iPhone will read
Song: Mama Who Bore Me
Artist:Duncan Shiek
Album: Lea Michele
The library is the right one, and it thinks the iPhone is saying the right thing, but when you go in and look, it's not. How to I get them to match???
If I delete the music, rename the artist and resync, it doesn't matter, the exact same thing happens.
What am I missing?!?!?!! It's driving me crazy!!!
Stupid Update!!!!
I’ve read reports from many other iTunes users who are having the same issue I am. Please read on...
When listening to songs that I purchased from iTunes (as opposed to those I imported from CD), several, but not all, of them stop playing prematurely several seconds (or even minutes) before the end of the tune. Playback jumps immediately to the beginning of the next tune.
I noticed this, I believe, shortly after moving my iTunes library to a new iMac (3.1 GHz Intel Core i5, 12 GB memory) running iTunes 10.5.3 (3) on Mac OS 10.7.3. Everything was fine before the move.
Of the 283 purchased songs in my iTunes library, about 100 of them exhibit this behavior. The song playback times at which this happens range from 2:14 to 5:19.
What is interesting, is that tunes from the same album all end at the same playback time! For example, I purchased the whole album “River - The Joni Letters” (Herbie Hancock’s album covering a number of Joni Mitchell tunes). Every song from that album now stops playing at 3:39. The same happens with other tunes that happen to be from the same album, too. I have no idea why this would be the case, but it certainly seems significant.
Another interesting finding, is that if I copy one of tunes exhibiting this issue to the desktop and play it from there, the song plays all the way through to the end without a problem. This would, I think, rule out a corrupt file and tend to point to iTunes itself as the source of the problem.
The problem certainly is annoying, and it would be great if we could find some resolution and get back to enjoying our music without the mind-jarring bump that too often now happens without warning.
Sincerely,
Michael Loomis

I have new iphone and all data were restored but my music! How can I add my music from Itunes and new iphone?
Connect the old phone to your computer, right click on it in iTunes, and choose Transfer Purchases. That should put all of your music in iTunes except any tracks that were not purchased from iTunes. If you have any such you will have to retrieve them from the original source, or see: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3141.
Apple also has this tip for copying data from an old phone to a new one. -
My iPhone 5 will not sync with itunes. Icon does no appear in left hand column. Both iTunes and the iPhone are running the most up to date updates. Please help.
Is your iPhone connected to your computer using the lightning cable or are you doing WiFi sync?
Sometimes the iPhone doesn't show up in the side bar if you're using WiFi syncing, if its not working, then be connected to your WiFi on your phone and on your computer (Same network) let me know how it's going, if it doesn't work still. Turn your phone off and on again and put in your pass code then try to sync it (keep your phone unlocked and not in sleep mode) tel me if it appears in the side bar. -
Deleted Music in iTunes and now iPhone and iPad do not match up.
I recently I did a purge of all old music in my iTunes library to also make space on my iPhone and iPad. My iPad has numerous songs which I have kept not being able to play. It is grey'ed out and have the circle with a stop button next to it. On my iPhone however the case is different. I still have all the songs which I wanted gone still on the phone. What do I do to fix this issue because it is becoming very very annoying as I can barely listen to anything on my iPad and the iPhone is running out of space. I do not want to have to do a total device restore because I will lose some information. I have also tried un-syncing the music from the devices and re-sync them but it has not helped.
Please, show this:

everytime i sync my iphone to my macbook pro it says on the phone that theres 6.17gb of audio but in itunes under music it says i have 5.67gb of music. i was wondering what the difference was. i tried adding the podcasts to the music but it still doesnt add up right
Not sure, but I believe that album artwork is stored with the audio on the iPhone, but not counted in the total in iTunes.

I have an iPhone 6 with 64 GB of memory. I have iTunes Match turned on my account and on the phone. Suddenly, the Music app is only displaying music purchased directly from iTunes and no playlists are displayed. This occurred after updating iTunes Match on my PC; when new music did not appear, I turned off iTunes Match off/on the PC then did the same on iPhone 6. It looks like iTunes Match is trying to do a full download to the phone but it never completes. Ideas?

I tried to sync music from iTunes to my iPhone and when I click on "on this phone" the songs are there, but they are greyed out and have a circle in front of them. I can not click on those songs, delete or anything and when I eject the phone they are not on the phone. I tried to re-add the songs and it says it can't add songs because they've already been added. So HOW can I get the songs to actually ADD to my phone to where I can listen to them? It's like they're stuck in Sync limbo or something! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am having the same problem. I have just tried this. Unplug iphone > open itunes > delete all music from itunes library > close itunes > re-open itunes > add music from original folder > plug in iphone > select songs > press sync > unplug iphone using eject button onscreen > checked phone .... still nothing in music folder on phone. On itunes the "On this iphone" tab the songs remain there but greyed out.

I purchased music on itunes on my iphone and the songs won't show up in my music library on the phone. They are on my computer itunes library but it won't let me transfer the purchases back to my phone (which I have never had to do before). Never had this problem before this week when purchasing music on my iphone.
My Itunes library on my laptop is slightly different from my Iphone library so I don't want to erase and sync the entire library. In iTunes, try signing out of your Apple ID & then back in: click on iTunes Store on the left sidebar of iTunes, click on your Apple ID on the top right, sign out, sign back in. Then try to sync your purchased music to your phone again.

My wife and my iphones are both on the same apple id. If I create a new apple id for her, can we still share our music?
Yes. If you are using two different instances of iTunes on your computers, make sure the music is on both copies of iTunes.
The person with the new Apple ID will not "own" the music, as it is owned by the one with the former ID. But the way to deal with this is for the new ID person to do Store > Authorize This Computer from iTunes' menu, then have the person with the ID that purchased the music enter his/her Apple ID and password. -
it's been a while that Im unable to copy music from itunes to my iphone. I updated my device to the latest version of IOS 5.1.1 and made sure no jailbreak is installed but still not working. please assist.
Assuming you are not manually managing your music, verify the following:
You are using the latest version of iTunes
On the summary tab of your iTunes sync settings you have checked "Sync only checked songs and videos"
In your music library you have checked all the songs you want to sync to your phone
There are no exclamation points next to any of the songs you want to sync to your phone
You have authorized your computer for all Apple IDs for purchased music you want to sync to your phone (in Store>Authorize this computer)
You have checked "Sync Music" on the Music tab of your iTunes sync settings
When everything looks correct, sync your phone. -
Error message (-51) keeps coming up when I try to send music from iTunes to my iPhone and then the music won't come over. How can I fix this message?
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

I have all my music in iTunes and have "Music Match" turned on. Apparently, I also have music on my iPhone 5. I need to free up space on my iPhone. If I delete the music on my iPhone, will it still be available to me on my phone via the cloud?
The same is true for photo's. I have too many photo's on my phone taking up space. Now I realize I can remove a lot of the photo's via sync options, but ...This can happen if iTunes gets confused about what is and isn't on the device. These steps should resolve.
Backup the device.
Restore as a new device.
Restore the backup made earlier.
