Mx.transitions + movieClipLoader + Crashing Flash IDE
Well I got this code straight from the adobe site and it is
suppose to show how to use the mx.transition class with a movie
clip loader. When I look at the code it seems right but the flash
Ide keeps crashing but before that happens it prompts me that the
code is causeing the player to be unresponsive like ther is a loop
or something that won't end. I don't see any loop and would expect
this code to have been edited on the adobe site if it were
incorrect especially since it is fore mx 2004.

Can't import fl.transitions.tween in Flash Builder 4
Hi,
I'm running Flash Builder 4 that came with my Adobe Master Suite CS5 group of software. I'm new to ActionScript and learning. I'm trying to implement a flip animation that uses the following packages:
fl.transitions.Tween
fl.transitions.TweenEvent
fl.transitions.easing.Strong
but I'm getting compiler errors for each of those lines:
1172: Definition fl.transitions:Tween could not be found.
1172: Definition fl.transitions:TweenEvent could not be found.
1172: Definition fl.transitions.eashing:Strong could not be found.
I found some references other people discussed regarding CS3, but I'm on cs5 (and this machine never had cs3 installed, I started with cs4 and upgraded to cs5).
Do I need to explicitely tell Flash Builder where to find these packages?
Are they not standard to the Flash Builder 4.0 Standard build?
Any suggestions/help you may be able to provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kamala1. fl package comes with Flash IDE. If you need to use them with any other environment/compilers - map to corresponding swc (you will nee to find it)
2. Flash Tween is a pretty badly written engine. I suggest you look into thrid party engines like TweenLite/TweenMax - it is very good and much easier to use. -
Crashing flash 8 on test of movie...
Hey... this is my first significant actionscript
application... and i'm almost done with it, but i've gotten to the
point where it crashes flash 8 when I test it... not just the
player, it crashes the whole application. I'm starting to go
through and check for bugs, but i just thought I'd post what I
added to the actionscript today in the forums and see if anyone
notices a blatent error.
i haven't cleaned up this code yet... there are lots of
comments, but it may not be as elegant as I want it to be yet...
I'm not looking for you to spend too much time helping me make it
work... just look for syntax or method errors - typos or things i
should change about how i'm writing code.
Thanks for looking!Hm, I just tried this code, no crash here. Just loaded the
mcLargeTray image, works fine. So it might not be this part that's
crashing it...
Just an idea: check if the .jpgs aren't progressive. Don't
know if this may crash Flash, but there are problems with
progressive .jpgs.
Some other things I noticed:
You create some empty MCs in children of the root MC, but you
use the nextHighestDepth of the root for them. Inside the children,
there's an own depth count, so it's a bit strange to use root's
depths. Shouldn't be a problem, just thought I tell.
Another, more important mistake is in the positioning code:
the width property of MCs is called _width, not width.
Apart from that, the code looks quite good. I would try to
comment it out and uncomment it bit by bit and test the movie,
maybe you can narrow the problem down to a smaller part this way.
Good luck!

JS ExternalInterface calls crashes Flash player
Hi,
We build a flash application in ActionScrip 3 which provides JS external interface calls. We load another swf on our swf. If we don't enable external swf, any JS calls through external interface works fine. However, if external swf is active, at some points when there is any JS calls through external interface, Flash player plugin crashes which also bring down the whole browser, I see that on IE and FF.
Do you have any idea what may cause external interface call to crash Flash plugin?

AS3 file crashes Flash on save
Hi,
For the past 2 days every new AS3 file I try to create crashes Flash on every attempt at a save AFTER the initial save. All was fine for months for a couple of projects we are working on. I've reset the Flash prefs as Adobe instructs, trashed the copies of the files on this machine, run disk utility and Onyx. Nothing helps. I can't think of anything out of the ordinary that happened this week that would've caused something like this to happen. Also, I've searched since yesterday and this doesn't seem to be an issue with anyone else. My Flash 5 app is fine if I don't use external .as files or put code in the actions box.
Any ideas?You might try searching / posting in the Flash General forum instead of the Actionscript 3 forum.

Flash IDE Components in Flex 3 Design Mode. Can they be visible there?
Hi,
Im exploring Flex to get a grasp on its concepts and am currently looking into building components in the Flash IDE. Though i guess its likely that when you're more familiar with Flex you build your components in Flex, like said Im exploring its concepts and like to know where and how the Flash IDE fits in its workflow.
I made a simple Flex Component in the Flex IDE, which shows up fine when I run the Flex project. But it does not show in Flex Design Mode.
I have exported the component from Flash as an SWC and added the SWC to the Flex library path. The symbol in the Flash IDE extends UIMovieClip. Now I read in 'Using Adobe FlexBuilder 3' (p.67) that the Flex Components panel only lists visible components, according to the documentation 'components that extend UIComponent'.
Note that my question is about being visible on the stage in Design Mode, not in the component panel. As UIMovieClip doesnt inherit from UIComponent (and the UIComponent class doesnt seem to be available in the Flash IDE), is this also the cause that the Flash IDE component is not visible on the Flex stage in Design Mode?
Can someone confirm, or deny this?
Regards,
MarcelHi Latha,
thanks for your feedback. Reading it back though, Im still not sure whether Flex components build in the Flash IDE (using the Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3) can be visible in Flex 3 Design Mode.Maybe you can be a bit more specific and save a lot of Flex beginners a lot of headaches.
I understand that MXML components can be used in Design Mode. I also understand that if your component is AS you have to create a Library and link that to your project to make them visible in Design Mode. I also understand that Flash Builder 4 does "support rendering of UIMovieClip objects which are in library (swc) and added to the project build path"
This actually doesnt answer my question really. Does this mean there is no way to render Flex components build in the Flash IDE (using the Flex Component Kit for Flash CS3) in Flex 3 Design Mode?

AMFPHP hanging in browser but not Flash IDE?
Wrote a service that sends a bytearray to my Flash app that works perfectly fine when I test it in the Flash IDE (CS5), and when I compile the app and run it in a browser directly from my computer.
When I load it on to the server to run in my browser, the same service hangs. Can anyone think what may be causing this?
I tested the service in the service browser and it worked fine there as well.
I'm really hitting a wall on this, any help would be appreciated!What is ncDB? Is it a remote object?
Remote object don't have a connect method. Istead you should set the endpoint, source and destination properties.
If you handle your requests through AS3, you could do the following. I use this code in a singleton class.
in the constructor:
ws.RemoteObject = new RemoteObject();
ws.destination = "amfphp";
ws.source = "nameOfYourService";
ws.endPoint = "linkToYourGateway.php";
ws.addEventListener(FaultEvent.FAULT, this.faultHandler);
In a method named 'call':
public function call(endPoint:String = null, serviceMethod:String, resultFunction:Function = null, ...args):void
if (endPoint != null)
ws.endPoint = endPoint;
if (resultFunction == null)
resultFunction = defaultResult;
if (ws.operations.hasOwnProperty(serviceMethod))
ws[serviceMethod].removeEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, resultFunction);
ws[serviceMethod].removeEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, defaultResult);
ws[serviceMethod].addEventListener(ResultEvent.RESULT, resultFunction);
ws[serviceMethod].arguments = args;
ws[serviceMethod].send();
Does this help?

Hi,
Adobe Flash IDE: Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Flash Professional CS5
I am facing some migration/compatibility issues between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Flash Professional CS5:
I am working on a project that has been completely developed in CS3 earlier. When I am using CS5 (Flash Player 9 / Flash Player 10) to compile the FLA files, it is creating some new issues like some customized radio buttons are getting disappeared while viewing the SWF on a web page etc.
So, I would like to know:
1) Is there any migration/compatibility issue between Adobe Flash CS3 Professional and Adobe Flash Professional CS5?
2) If yes: Is there any patch available from Adobe for it?
3) If no: What could be the causes and the best possible solutions for it?
Any help and support would be highly appreciated. Many thanks in advance!
Thanks & Regards

Change Flash IDE default player in OSX?
Does anyone know if it's possible to change the flash player
that Flash IDE uses? As far as I know, it uses the special
debugging version of the player. For some reason this player runs
much slower than the regular standalone player in OSX.
So I'm trying to figure out if there's a configuration file I
can edit or something to have it launch the standalone player when
using the Flash IDE.
There's a "players" folder Inside the main "Adobe Flash CS3"
folder. I tried swapping out the player in there in the debug
folder but it didn't seem to do anything.
I know there's the nifty flash switcher app that does exactly
what I need, but it's only available on the PC.
Thanks for any help.

Running multiple instances of Flash IDE CS(6)
I have a build machine compiling my fla files by running Flash.exe from command line and supplying a JSFL file as a parameter. I want to run multiple instances of Flash IDE in order to enable concurrent builds on that machine otherwise there's only one thread running on a build machine which is a resource waste.
So, is it possible to run multiple instances of Flash IDE? Maybe there's a kind of command line switch? I have Flash CS6, but there shouldn't be that many differences with CC, isn't it?I dont think you can run multiple instances of flash both in CS6 and CC.

Given a SWF file, how would I know on what Flash IDE has it been compiled?
Hi guys,
I have a series of modules developed overtime and so some of them are AS1, AS2 and AS3. Some where compiled using FlashMX, 8, CS3, etc.
Sometimes it would be very beneficial for me if I could know with what version of the Flash IDE it was compiled and targeting what platform.
Is this possible? Perhaps using some decompiler? Perhaps opening the SWF on a text editor and looking for some string that tells this details?
Thanks for any comment or link you may post.
regards,
Miguel.a decompiler would let you see what version of actionscript was used and what flash player was targeted (among other things).

CS5.5 file crashes Flash on opening
Hi,
I've got an iMac and a MacBook Pro both running 10.6.8 and Flash CS5.5.
I've built some files on the iMac using Flash CS5.5, but when I try and open them on the MB Pro the file crashes Flash on opening. The problem for me right now is the iMac is at my office and I'm offsite using the MB Pro. I tried re-installing Flash CS5.5 but that didn't fix the problem. Is there anything I can do to try and debug or figure out why this is happening. Other files and new files are fine in CS5.5 on the MB Pro, just this specific file that I need to work on :-) is crashing.
I'm pasting the Crash Report in here with the hope that someone from Adobe can understand what's going on and tell me the problem / fix for it. It's looking like I'm going to have to leave the site and go back to my office, which is a pain and looks kind of un-professional in my opinion.

1 libSystThanks! I sent some files.
I'm thinking it's related to a font embedded and used dynamically from the Library. I rebuilt one of the .flas a layer at a time and I'm sure it's the embeded font (in the library). There are 2 test .flas 1 with the embedded font and 1 without.
Oddly enough, 1 of the times I was testing a layer at a time the file opened without crashing and then the other 2 real .flas also opened without crashing, but when I quit Flash and tried to open them a again I got the same crash issue and the files wouldn't open.
I haven't tried yet, but I'm going to see if it crashes using a different font. The font is one of Adobe's and used as branded element in the design so I can't really change it for production use, but it would be worth it to test.
Thanks,
Dave -
Barn doors transition causes crash
Dear Community,
Applied barn doors transition to a project in CS4. Stored that project in 2010.
Opened the project in CS6 CC - and barn doors caused crashes - so I cleaned off the old and applied replacement barn door transitions in CS6 CC.
Once the wipe is applied - its fairly stable - sometime crashes sometimes doesn't.
If I apply a broder colour to the wipe - all ok.
If I then apply a border thickness - crash every time.
System;
Premiere Pro CS6 - 6.0.3 (001 (MC: 264587)) through cloud membership
Updated and current
Win 7 Pro - SP1 - 64 Bit
Source footage SONY EX3 - .mp4 and still image .png's
No error messages - just crash and need to restart PP CS6
Try to apply colour and border to a barn door transition causes the error
This worked before on the smae project when created in CS4

Re: Barn doors transition causes crash
posted Jun 5, 2013 5:15 PM
Since the original report earlier today - I now just have to put the timeline scrubber over the barn doors transition and PP CS6 closes without an error message and without saving. The unfortunate part here is there doesn't seem to be any record or log of the crashes to be able to disseminate whats going wrong.
Barn doors worked in CS4 - and the only change in this project is the re-opening in CS6 CC."
Question; Did I put something in there that was defammatory, rude, obnoxious, incorrect or un-helpful?
If anyone here believes I did, I sincerely apologise for the need of moderators to have intervened... and for causing any offence. -
Does Flash IDE compiler follow symlinks?
I am using Flash CS4 10.0.2 on OS X 10.6.3.
I have a Flash project in a dir:
$ ll
-rw-r--r--@ 1 jfassett jfassett 4.5K 8 Apr 18:04 Navigation.as
-rw-r--r--@ 1 jfassett jfassett 59K 8 Apr 16:44 Navigation.fla
-rw-r--r--@ 1 jfassett jfassett 547B 8 Apr 18:05 Navigation.swf
lrwxr-xr-x 1 jfassett jfassett 29B 8 Apr 18:05 com -> /project/kiln/as3lib/src/com/
-rw-r--r--@ 1 jfassett jfassett 563B 8 Apr 17:55 data.xml
You can see I have the directory com as a symlink to another location on my hd. If I try and import files from the com directory into Navigation.as the Flash IDE cannot find them saying:
1172: Definition com.zoogeny.resource:ResourceService could not be found.
It works using mxmlc:
$ mxmlc Navigation.as
Loading configuration file /Applications/Adobe Flash Builder Beta 2/sdks/3.4.1/frameworks/flex-config.xml
/Users/jfassett/Documents/_work/freelance/fdsdevelopments/Navigation.swf (4434 bytes)
Should the Flash IDE also be following the symlinks?Suppose not.
