My Adobe Reader 10 Keeps Closing

As you may see on the title, my adobe reader 10, the newest verison that i finally updated a few days ago kept crashing.
I needed to read a pdf file, but then everytime i open it, it just closes automatically on me after one second, even before the contents can come out.
Please dont tell me that the newest adobe have a bug.
Does anyone experience the same problem that i am facing? Because i have to use this PDF file tomorrow, and i cant bare to not be able to read it.
SO PLEASE. SOMEONE THAT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AND SOLVED IT, HELP ME! D:
i remember when i still had my verison 9, it was perfectly fine. So i really dont know what is going on.

hello dandyone, the root of the problem here is that firefox is expecting adobe reader 11 as latest version - however adobe doesn't make the current version available for windows vista users.

  • Adobe Reader XI keeps prompting to update to version 11.0.3

Adobe Reader XI keeps prompting to update to version 11.0.3 even though the installed version is already 11.0.3.
How can I stop this unnecessary update prompting occurring?

Thanks for the response Stacy and Bill.
The link to disable updates is giving a 404 error and if I go to the Knowledgebase link and search for “disable automatic updates | acrobat, reader” I just get links to forum threads.
I have attached a snip of my Check for updates preference. I don’t want to go for the no notification option and I don’t trust the auto download options given that I keep getting so many notifications that the same update is available as the version I have: I fear that would simply continuously download the same update over and over.
I’ll try the link you gave me again later to see if I can reach that page.
    Thanks again,
    Mike

  • Adobe Reader X keeps crashing

    Hi Guys/Ladies
I have Adobe X running on all my machines. But this morning a lot of user are experiencing the problem I have. It keeps crashing and then i have to open it again. I have re-installed it but still. I open a document if I select print it crashes.
All the machines are Windows 7 Pro.
Please can someone help. Bit frustrating
    Thanks
    Claude

    Three things to try...
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • Adobe reader DC keeps installing over 11

Use Reader 11 and lately every time I return to my computer, Reader DC is now the default reader. I did not want to change from 11 so I remove DC and reinstall 11. the next day I return to my computer and DC is back !!
I do not like DC, do not want to use DC, I want 11 to be my default. Is there a reason DC keeps installing over 11??? Can I stop this somehow? I do NOT want to use DC, I do not like its interface nor any of its "improved" features, I just want to stay with 11 and be left the h*ll alone by DC.
Can anyone shed some light on this??
I have to go now, have to again remove DC and reinstall 11

Thank you, it is all good except the third step. I do NOT want DC on my system, I only want version 11 and no further since my other software does not play well with DC including my Chrome browser. I did follow the steps you mentioned and still DC managed to install itself over 11 so I had no luck keeping it from returning. Even if you tell it not tu update it does whatever it wants anyway. My current solution, which is a bad option but I have no choice, is to install a different brand of viewer. I prefer to have Adobe Reader 11 but it only lasts for a day before DC comes in and takes over. I am not sure even the removal tool from Adobe can remove it. I have scanned my system for viruses with 3 different packages and found none. There is something about Dc still stuck there and it will not go away. I may have to go manually into my registry and delete every single Adobe key and sub-key there, that will take a while.

  • Adobe Reader XI keeps crashing

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but the same thing happens; open a pdf doc it appears but then a dialog box comes up 'This program has stopped working' only option is to close the program.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
Any clue on how it can be fixed?
Could it possibly be that I downloaded it using Google Chrome?

    Some things to try...
    Update to Reader 11.0.5
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

  • My installation of Adobe Reader XI keep crashing on my MacBook Pro

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro running Lion 10.7.5 & Adobe Reader XI
95% of the time when I run Adobe reader it crashes.  Every now and again i works fine.
I've tried this with all external devices disconnected.  I've also re-fitted the origina 4GB that came with the machine & of course restarted the machine several times.  So far as I can tell  have no other issues with thr laptop or any of the applications installed
Has anyone else got this problem or can help me with it?
    Thanks

There are a lot of spammers who send fake update notifications to get you to install malware along with Adobe Reader (or instead). Perhaps, just perhaps, you got one of those.
If the notification was in email it was certainly a scam.

  • Windows 8.1 trying to download Adobe Reader but keep getting error 1406. Help!

  • Adobe Reader 9 keeps asking for admin name and password

I just installed Reader 9. Every time I open the app it asks for an admin username and password. I can click "cancel" instead of entering the name and password and the program continues to open, but this is very annoying. To clarify: I am not referring to password protected documents. The Reader 9 app itself is throwing up this dialogue each time I launch it.

Aha! Montana... I hope you catch this. I just had Adobe Reader do the same thing... I realized it was just an udpater so I ran Spotlight to see where the critter was on my drive. Check out Applications/Utilities/Adobe. It should be lurking in there. Just delete it. Then if you want, you can update your Adobe Reader from their site at your leisure.

    susannefromqld,
try downloading the offline Adobe Reader installer, and see if that will install successfully when run locally.

  • Adobe Reader crashes when closing

    Hi all
Been having some problems with adobe reader recently- not critical, just annoying. It runs fine, but then when I close it, windows tells me its crashed. Has anyone else heard of this? Might it be a sign something is corrupt somewhere?
I'm running version 10.1.0 on Vista if that helps.
    Thanks very much
    Jonny

When the system asks you to send a crash report to Microsoft, please do.
It will be forwarded to us so we can take a look. I am not sure if we have gotten enough reports of this kind so far.
If a crash happens after viewing a specific pdf file, let us have it so we can investigate directly, if there are no copyright or privacy issues.
Attach the file here or file a bug report at https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&promoid=EWQQL
The bug report form doesn't let you attach a file. Include your e-mail address or URL where we can get the file.
    Thanks

  • Adobe Reader 8 keeps crashing

    Hi All,
I've recently downloaded Adobe 8.1.2 having previously happily used version 7.0.9. I am experiencing some problems though! If I attempt to open a .pdf file from either an existing folder or to download a new file, then the file appears (apparently?) normally, but 12 seconds later the file is lost and Safari shuts down or the file requested from one of my folders closes.
I've tried deleting the previous version (7.0.9), but this has not altered the problem; worst of all, I no longer have any Adobe software to view my .pdf files!
Any help gladly received. Thank you.

I have actually had this issue for months, across the last 2-3 minor releases of Reader 8. On my PowerBook G4, the app crashes after about 12 seconds, regardless of context or current activity. Launching it by itself results in the same crash, after the same amount of time.
Clearly there's some background process that's causing this. Problem is, I don't see any reports to any CrashReporter or other system logs.
@ali brown, you don't need to confirm whether the user downloaded the correct installer for the platform -- the Intel-only installer won't run on a PowerPC machine. I suspect the reverse is true as well.
This thread on macosx.com suggests there's a font that could be causing this problem:
    http://preview.tinyurl.com/5nbqzd
I've validated all my fonts in Font Book with no warnings or errors. I've also uninstalled Reader, deleted all Reader-related caches and preferences, and re-installed, with the exact same results.
Has anyone seen this behavior before? Any clue why this might be happening?
    TIA.

Can you check, whether patch KB2624667 is installed on your machine or not ? If “yes”, then uninstall that patch. Uninstall Reader. Restart your server and install Reader again using the steps mentioned in Enterprise Guide.
Make sure to update the Reader version to latest version available.

please comment with any suggestions... thanks jeannette

to clarify, I have read the suggested "fixes" and I suspect this has to do with updated version, should I just try and try to download older version. I have talked to librarian (I used pub med and google scholar regularly for my academic med job) and she felt it was not a digital media licensure upgrade issue. If I erase adobe altogether the file reads as a simple pdf. Please help as I like adobe's feature and would like to continue to use it, thanks! jeannette
