My adventure with 7.0.2

Well, got it all installed fine, although it hung while importing the library. Force quit it, restarted it, fine, entire library there, and it started doing this process of going through every song in my library it called "scanning songs for nonstop play" or something like that. Cool implementation, you could stop it temporarily by clicking on the kill button to the right in the window. (It uses the same window as the graphic eq moving bar indicator.)
And when you quit normally and restarted, it would try picking up where it left off. And there is the problem...
IT HANGS ON MONO FILES. Either .mp3 or .aif, I have both in my library. And I have a feeling on other files too. And once it hangs, you have to force quit. Which starts the process all over from the beginning, or when you last quit normally.
BUT IF you happen to stop it, as I did, right before a problematic file, the next time you start it up, instant crash, it goes right to that file and chokes. I even tried removing what I thought was a problem file from my library, but apparently either it wasn't the right file or it was intent on choking on all the mono files I had in that particular group of files.
I can only imagine what havoc this process can wreak on those with iPods...
So, thanks to the great posts here, back to 6.0.5. Only I had to go through the process twice, because apparently it didn't overwrite 7.0.2, when I restarted from the dock again I got 7.02. So once again, yanked 7.0.2 to the desktop (destined for the trash) and out of the dock and went through the well-documented process in many other posts here, and everything is back to 6.0.5.
It's too bad, it looked nice, loved the new Visualizer, but hey, was completely useless as a music player or CD burner once it crashed on that initial scanning process.
One good thing... it's no longer clicking once in between songs... maybe I was on an earlier version than 6.0.5.
So Apple, I gave it my best shot. Back to the drawing board for you guys.

From the iTunes dropdown menu select 'Provide iTunes Feedback' if you want them to see your adventure. These are user to user forums and no way to be sure that Apple is reading your post.

  • How to debug Java adventure with jdb

    Hi,
I'm learning J2ee and I'd like to use and debug
Java adventure. I tried to find some information but found nothing.
What I tried to debug , is to start the j2ee server by adding the following options into the bin/asadmin.bat file:
    -Xdebug -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,suspend=n
This it doesn't work because the j2ee server is started with the javaw.exe virtual machine. So I'm stuck here.
My first question: 1- what visual debugger is great to debug J2ee apps ??
I'd like to known what are the steps to:
2- how to start the j2ee server in order to attach the jdb or a visual
    debugger ?
3- when starting the j2ee server, what do i have to do in order to step
into the code source of Java adventure and follow function calls ?
4- how do I have to start the jdb to attach to the J2ee server ?
5- Any useful tip to debug J2ee apps ! :-)
    Thanks in advance !

    Hi,Hello
I'm learning J2ee and I'd like to use and debug
Java adventure. I tried to find some information but
    found nothing.
What I tried to debug , is to start the j2ee server by
adding the following options into the bin/asadmin.bat
    file:
    -Xdebug
    ug
    -Xrunjdwp:transport=dt_socket,address=8000,server=y,sus
    end=nThat looks OK.
This it doesn't work because the j2ee server is
started with the javaw.exe virtual machine. So I'm
stuck here.javaw.exe implies you are on a win32 machine. The default
debugging transport on win32 is shared memory... but you specify
a socket connection on the debugee command line above. This
means you need to specify sockets on the debugger side as well.
    For example:
    jdb -connect com.sun.jdi.SocketAttach:hostname=localhost,port=8000
Note the port number (8000) matches the value you specified
    when starting the debugee.
    >
My first question: 1- what visual debugger is great
to debug J2ee apps ??For a list of debugging tools, check this web page:
    http://java.sun.com/products/jpda/using.html
Many of these products work well in a J2EE environment.
Most of them are either free, or come with an introductory
    "try before you buy" offer.
I'd like to known what are the steps to:
2- how to start the j2ee server in order to attach
    the jdb or a visual
debugger ?You are on the right track with the flags/options you
    mentioned.
3- when starting the j2ee server, what do i have to
    do in order to step
into the code source of Java adventure and follow
low function calls ?The code you want to examine needs to be compiled
with the "-g" flag added to the javac command line.
When -g is specified, javac will save information
in the .class files that is used later during debugging.
4- how do I have to start the jdb to attach to the
    J2ee server ?See above...
For more coverage on this topic, refer to:
    JPDA Connection and Invocation Details

5- Any useful tip to debug J2ee apps ! :-)That is a bit outside the scope of this forum... sorry.
Any useful tips will depend on what J2EE app server you
are using. Most of the well-known servers come with
a debugging guide. For example, take a look at:
Debugging J2EE Applications in the SunOne Application Server
    documentation:

  • Using a Solarmonkey Adventurer with MacBook Air (2010)

Can anyone tell me if you can buy a power attachment for the Macbook Air that has a USB connection at the other end?
I have just bought a Solarmonkey Adventurer from Powertraveller.com, this is a solar powered charger that has multiple adapters to charge all sorts of gadgets, ie: ipod, iphone, ipad, GPS, camera's etc etc .... I doesn't come with an adapter for the MacBook Air but it would need the standard end piece the connects to the computer but with a USB at the other end.
    Can anyone help?
    Cheers
    Sally

The end connection of your power device would tend to indicate that it's output is around 5 volts, which is far below the voltage requirement for the Air. As well, the devices you mention are far less demanding of wattage as well.
Simple answer... No, there is no USB to MagSafe connector, adapter, or cable available, nor would it likely work anyway, because of the aforementioned voltage/wattage issue.

  • Now what? My adventures with a macbook pro

So my issues with my macbook have been an adventure to say the least---that actually includes being robbed, having it stolen and returned to me!
You can see my initial post here which has screenshots and detailed description of the problem: https://discussions.apple.com/message/15490750#15490750
Quick recap is that my Macbook Pro was running very slow specifically when using Photoshop, Aperture and Lightroom.  Also getting weird trippy screens when I open new tabs in Safari and slow restart time, starting of apps and it would fall asleep and not wake up (as seen in this video:
Here is video of this issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=APyTGYauhEQ  )
I had brought the macbook into the Apple store 3 times.
1st time:  ran full diagnostic and found nothing so they did an OS Restore saying that when I synced my old computer with the new computer it could have transferred over something buggy.
2nd time: Ran an advanced disk utility to verify and repair permissions and disk
3rd time: They did clean Wipe with fresh OS install- this was maybe a month or so ago...these screenshots and video were taken this week. Also this time that I brought it in they discovered that my OS was not the most current version even though I personally had run software update and the apple Genius ran the software update and it was saying my software was up to date when it obviously was not.
I only got one response here who basically confirmed my thought that I got a lemon of a computer and to keep bringing it in so I brought it in for a 4th time.  I met with the "genius" and I dont think I even completed my first sentence and he goes "it needs a new graphics card".  All he had seen was my screenshot of the wonky screen and he was 100% convinced this was the issue.  I was a little confused to say the least that he made this decision in 30 seconds when it was my 4th trip to the apple store with it and not once was this mentioned at all in my previous trips.
So they shipped it off and called me 3 days later to say it was ready.  I picked it up, left the store was walking through the mall and was robbed by some guy who grabbed my macbook from me and ran off.  Nice right?  I chased him, saw his car, described it to police and with sure luck when they called the description over the scanner 10 minutes later another cop managed to pull the guy over, my macbook in the back seat.  So I get it back that night (after many hours at the police station)- when I turned it on I did discover that it was wiped clean.  I was unsure if Apple did this or the robbers.  I assume Apple did but when I called to ask them they said for liability reasons they could not tell me bc of the robbery.  Not sure it really matters either way.
Well its less than a week later and again Im seeing this (just took this screenshot today)
UGH! So now what....so far I havent been doing enough photo editing to tell if the other issues still exist BUT either way I l know the above is not normal and Ive seen it at least 5 times since picking the computer up.  After being robbed Im even afraid to go back to the apple store with my laptop.

I haven't read your post in detail, but looking at the image you posted, I'd say it looks like a hardware problem.  If this machine is fairly new and you've been dealing with problems with it since day one, it's probably time to have a discussion with Apple about replacing the machine.

  • WIP: My adventures with 2011 MacBook Pro and Windows 8.1 including seconday HDD

So I've just lost about 3 days of my life trying to install Windows 8.1 (my preferred) operating system on a Late 2011 MacBook Pro.
I feel that I've learnt a lot and hopefully can share my experiences to speed a few of you along the process. This is my own experience please let me know if anything I have documented is not true and I will revise for completeness
What my initial goal was to have a dual HD set up with an SSD running both Mac OSX and Windows 8.1 (via Bootcamp) with a 2ndry HD in places of the optical (DVD) drive for shared storage.
I have tried all/some of the following:
Win 8.1 ISO from the MS site: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media
USB created using Rufus for Bios and EFI boot
DVD created using Windows 8.1 (can't remember how)
Yosemite USB created using: Create a bootable installer for OS X Mavericks or Yosemite - Apple Support
There are 2 main options when installing Windows:
    Bios
    EFI
Both have different pros and cons, which Im going to try and document here:
    Bios
Full driver support via Bootcamp download
Slower (mainly boot time, not by much though)
Not quite as "native" as some may prefer
    Limited number of partitions??
    EFI
    Fast
    Native
Does not support video driver properly (no dual screen)
Audio does not work (says Failed to start device)
Here are some random facts I know
Windows DVD will only boot from optical drive when connected internally. If plugged in via external USB it stops at black screen with flashing cursor and doesnt progress
Using 5HT-2a's method on Redit (see below) and the EFI install, I get the Cx0000005 cannot find source media error and cannot install
Hacking the Bootcamp tool to create a Windows 8 ISO with all the drivers works (see link below) but when using it in EFI it crashes repeatedly during install so you never can complete the process (I think this is due to the video drivers) and therefore can't run Bootcamp assistant thus get proper trackpad support
Using lion10's method (below) for tweaking a standard Mac partitioned HD I was able to get past the cannot install Windows error ("windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk is of the GPT partition style") and install Windows using EFI
    Best guides/links I have found:
lion10's method:The ultimate way to install Windows 8.x in (U)EFI mode on Apple systems
    5HT-2a's method: http://www.reddit.com/r/mac/comments/2fy3be/by_popular_demand_my_better_than_boo tcamp_guide/
    skipsizemore's method: Can't install Windows 8 x64 on late 2013 MBP with1TB SSD
Bootcamp drivers 2 versions depending on Mac:
Older Macs: Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5621
Newer Macs (most 2013+): Boot Camp Support Software 5.1.5640
Bootcamp Assistant Hack for USB creation on older Macs: http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1680652There is an additional parameter required if you are using Yosemite during code signing (-deep I think, but cant remember)

What I ended up doing (so far)
I'm not 100% sure of the state of my disk when I got to where I ended up but I had previous completed the GDisk and DISKPART methods from 5HT-2a and lion10's methods. I was using a 128gb SSD
I then decided to start from the top (as I had previous installed Win 8.1 on the original HD using DVD)
So I ran the Yosemite installer (via USB) and used the partition tab in Disk Utility to repartition the disk into 2 partitions, 1 for OSX and 1 (ExFat/NTFS) for Windows
I then booted in Bios (Windows, not EFI) using the Windows 8.1 DVD using the DVD plugged in internally (wouldnt work using USB enclosure)
Installed Windows to the partition I created (probably the 4th one)
After Windows installed, ran the Bootcamp set up program
Reran Yosemite installer and installed Yosemite
Swapped out the optical drive for a larger HD (7200rpm) and formatted it with HFS+

  • My adventures with BT- time to change company

I've seen a few horror stories in the forums and felt like sharing mine. It is a long read, but the plot twists towards the end make it worth the time.
It all started when I decided to go with BT in my new flat because the previous tenants had BT so I guessed that it would be the fastest to activate compared to other companies. I know it's not the fastest (or best, in any way) but I needed to get online ASAP for work-related reasons. I placed my order over the phone and the woman said she would call me on the 20th of November (my activation date) to set up payments and make my line saver payment as well. She never did.
My hub arrived on the 20th of November. 2 days later after having no internet I called support. After spending an hour on the phone they established that my line is fine. But I don't have internet, so it's not fine for me. They said they have to send over a technician, problem being that I work 9-6 (I presume this is not such a rare case in the UK, so maybe BT could have thought about this?) and the technician can only arrive within a 5-hour timeframe, between 8-6. Having no intention of taking half a day off since I'm in  my probation period at work, I said that is not an option. I called again on the 2nd of December just to check if anything had happened that would let me connect. After running the same tests the person on the phone confirmed that I had to get a technician appointment. I did so, asking for the 1-6pm slot on December the 4th. I also asked that the person comes as late as possible and that they call in advance, which I was told is standard procedure anyway (I work close to home so I could come over on time, if they called 15minutes before arrival).
Furthermore I left work as early as possible and was at home by 4:30. No call came, just a text saying that my internet should be fixed now. I called at 5:45, intending to first raise a complain and then to cancel my contract. As soon as I was transferred over to the contract department I was told that the technician had come by and didnt  find me there. She also said that they never call as this is not standard procedure, and that I would have to pay the full 307 pounds of my contract since the technician has to approve before I cancel. That doesn't make sense to me since I am not getting the service I ordered, so I will not pay it. Furthermore, I haven't actually signed any contract.
Just as things were getting tense she told me that apparently I had just missed a call from the technical department at 17:53 (the time now was 17:58) so she would check with them what it was about. I was on hold for 5 minutes, then passed on to the technical department (3rd person I talk to during the call). The technical support person said that no appointment had been set with a technician, and then passed me on to a level 2 technical support person- I took this as leveling up and proudly proceeded. The chap on level 2 re-run tests and actually found something wrong with my line!!! Furthermore, when I asked about the 17:53 call, he put me on hold for 5. He then came back and informed me that the call was from the technician who had called to say he is on his way. 7 minutes before the end of his shift, the gallant technician decided that actually he had not visited my flat, that calling is standard procedure, and that he would come. What is more, my phone never registered a missed call (unfortunately my mobile provider is an unreliable company, unlike BT).
Well that gave me a 20% blood pressure increase so I yelled at him to pass me back to account cancellation. After the standard 5 minutes on hold I was back to canceling my order with the 5th person of the evening. She again said that I would have to pay the full value of the contract plus cancellation charges. Now I'm no economics genius, but giving money for no service isn't my idea of a good deal. So I said that if they want, they can come after me and try to get it. She tried to make me shut up without success, and also said that even if I switch company I would have the same issue with the technician times - a blatant lie since I know Virgin Media users who have  a dedicated person come up to 9pm, whenever the customer is available. The Virgin Media technician is called Colin and my friend can just call him directly to set up a visit.
At some point during the heated debate the contract cancellation woman said she would ask the technical team about something. I was on hold for the usual 5, and then suddenly I was talking to person number 6, another member of technical support. When I demanded to be put back to the person I was talking to, I was put on hold again. After -you guessed it- 5 minutes, person number 6 said that she sent an email to person number 5 and that person number 5 would call me asap. That was 24 hours ago, and I haven't had a call.
Funny part is, I wanted BT cause I needed to have my line activated ASAP. Jokes are on me.
I guess that there is no discussion left to make here, and Virgin will now be my next stop. Good luck with getting "your" money back BT.
For those who read to the end- congratulations and thank you for staying with me. Have a cookie.

    Oliver.

  • Some Adventures With Keywords

I like many features of the Keyword system supplied with Aperture very much. But there are a few things which have been a little frustrating.
    * The way the autocompletion feature works in the "Add Keyword" field in the Control Bar makes it too easy to misenter a keyword. You type your keyword, hit "Enter", and--oops--you've entered something you didn't mean to enter.
    * Keywords entered in the HUD sometimes capitalize themselves when you don't want this. I haven't been able to determine why this happens, but I can't really understand why I would ever want the program to capitalize a word I didn't capitalize myself. Sometimes this is really frustrating--if I already have a keyword in the HUD, like "lake", and try to enter a phrase like "Kabetogama Lake" in the Control Bar field, Aperture simply won't let me make the "l" in lake uppercase no matter what I try.
    * When you apply a keyword via the Control Bar field, if it doesn't exist in the Keyword HUD Aperture automatically it. Many times I do not want this, and there ought to be a preference to allow turning this off.
    * The "keyword checkbox" interface of the Search HUD does not scale very well. As long as the pictures selected only contain a dozen or two unique keywords, this is fine, but when there are many all of the checkboxes and keywords overwhelm the HUD. Also, the HUD for some reason cannot be made wide enough to show long keywords after each checkbox, no matter how wide the screen on which it is displayed is.
    * In my library, the search HUD shows multiple checkbox items with the identical keyword. Interestingly, selecting one or the other provides different results from the search. However, entering the phrase in the "Quick Search" field does return the correct picture subset. Perhaps rebuilding the library would help with this problem.
    * I thought that the point of the hierarchical structure of the Keywords HUD would make it automatic to enter mutiple keywords which were related. For example, if I have a keyword of "tree" with a subcategory of "oak" I thought you would automatically get "tree" when you applied "oak" to a picture or pictures. Unless I'm missing something there is no way to do this. May a modifier key held down while dragging a keyword to a picture could add the parent keyword(s) as well.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?

Here is another issue with keywords.
Why is a search using a single keyword so slow? On my PowerBook, a search of a relatively small library--1500 images--takes in the neighborhood of 17-20 seconds. How can it take this long? A similar search of my full library (about 7000 images) using Portfolio 7 is virtually instantaneous. The graphics card surely can't be blamed for this one. This is, after all, the company which highlights their Spotlight technology...
Two other nits. First, it's not clear when the search is complete. There's no progress bar or other indication of completion, so sometimes when you do a search, a group of pictures appear and you think it's done, but suddenly more images appear. Then you wait a while until you feel certain it must be done.
Secondly, when a search is finished and the subset of images which were found is displayed, there's no indication that it's not the entire project or libarary, particularly when the Search HUD is dismissed. For example, it just says "104 images displayed", rather than "104 of 1500 images displayed" or something like that. It ought to be very obvious that you are not viewing the entire container of images.

  • Time to be a bit more adventurous with my Menus...

....but i'm not sure how to achieve what i have in mind.
I want create a dvd which has approx 12 submenus, each of which will hold upward of 10 movie files. I want to use text as the button for each submenu and each selection within the submenu.
I want to position the text in 3d space, so that when a submenu is selected the screen "flys through" the various menus to the correct selection.
I can do the 3d in After Effects as a movie- or series of movies to take into account which ever submenu is chosen, but i am lost in understanding how to translate those movies into working buttons within DVDSP.
The manual doesn't help me - i found it more confusing than anything!
Can anyone recommend any online tutorials that might push me in the right direction?
    thanks

I think you simply want to fly through the button on the way to the selected movie. You can do that easily by setting your transition movie as the target for the button, and set the end jump of the transition track to go to the actual movie.
I wonder though if you're going to exceed some number of tracks? 12 submenus with 10 movie files each sounds like 240 tracks if you include the transitions. I made one DVD that had 112 interviews, each of which started with a transition from the main menu. For that I made one track that contained all of the transitions, and set the target of the button to the marker for the right transition. An marker at the end of the transition was set to jump to the right marker in another track, that contained perhaps 20 of the interviews. The next marker in the large track was set to end jump back to the menu.
You might need to use two track to do the 120 transitions, as you can only have 100 markers in a track I think. The 120 movies could be placed into two or more tracks, and the transition chapter in the transitions movie would be set to end jump into the correct movies track, at the correct marker.

  • Adventure with Emacs

Is there any Emacs user to give me some hints about this program. I wish to use it for Web development, and i reed that i need Nxhtml mode. I can't find this package in ofical repos nor in AUR?

gabriel9 wrote:Emacs is great, it can do so much with so little resources. And it's fast when you learn shortcuts.
There is a little thing that bothering me:
When i run shell in Emacs it don't work nice: there is no completions for second word, sudo pacma and when i press <TAB> x2 it says: "No completions of pacma."
Again, not a direct answer to your question, but there are a few terminal emulators for emacs. See this Emacs Wiki page for a complete list:
    http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/CategoryShell
And for something completely different, you can always try eshell.
Now that I think of it, I'm not sure I get completions on the second word (e.g., sudo pacm...) when I use bash in urxvt. I'll have to look into that.

  • A few simple problems with dreamweaver 8

    Hello,
Please watch these 20 second clips so you can see my problem.
    First video (quite fuzzy, sorry):
    http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=qsp10x&s=5
I want it so it goes down 1 line instead of 2 lines at a
    time..
    Second video:
    http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=8wgt93&s=5
I want to put something in that massive area next to the
buttons table area, but it keeps going underneath..

    Hello,
I don't think I've seen screenshot video showing a question
    before. Clever.
    1. Use CSS to set the margins for the <p> tags.
    p {margin: 0px;}
    or
    p {margin: 0.2em 0em}
    Adjust as needed.
    2. That's how HTML works. Elements follow the normal flow and
    block level
elements, like a table, usually begin on a new "line."
You could make the table with your navigation in it a 2
    column table.
Insert the navigation in the first column.
Insert a new table in the second column.
Then, the new table will sit to the right of the navigation.
You could also use divs and CSS to float them next to each
    other.
Your best bet is to set DW aside for a little while and learn
    HTML and CSS.
DW will be far easier to use if you understand how HTML
    works.
Then you'll understand why things happen like they do, what
    is possible and
    how to do it.
If you don't, DW will be a very frustrating adventure with a
    hard learning
    curve.
    A good place to start:

  • After re-install, strange things are happening with my emails

I had a crash during an optimization adventure with TechTool Pro when I was running 10.4.10. Since I had problems with this version (another issue), I did an archive and install for 10.4.8, with a subsequent upgrade to 10.4.9, and stopped there. So when I moved the mailboxes from the previous system folders to the active ones, my emails "disappeared". The mailbox windows are completely empty. In one mailbox, I "lost" nearly 2000 messages that I needed to archive. On my iMac, I have about 60% of those emails saved and backed up.
I put quotes around "lost" and "disappeared" because I can open the files with TextEdit. They're complete and intact. But I can't open them up within Mail.
I rebuilt the mailboxes, with no success.
So what can I do to get Mail to recognize these invisible email files? Can anyone suggest a way to get Mail to recognize these files?

Rather than tinkering with the contents of ~/Library/Mail/, you should have either restored the whole ~/Library/Mail folder as if it was a monolithic entity, or import the mailboxes by means of File > Import Mailboxes.
That said, if Mail doesn’t recognize the messages in those mailboxes even after rebuilding them, chances are that importing them by normal means wouldn’t have worked either. In that case, you may try using emlx to mbox Converter or Emailchemy to convert the *.emlx files to standard mbox format, then import that in Mail as Other.

  • Lenovo N500 keyboard/ numbers instead of letters/with new keyboard installed/Resolved!!

I thought I would share my recent adventure with a 3000 N500 I have. The laptop was special ordered with Xp Pro on it. I uninstalled and installed Ubuntu, worked great. At some point my wife spilled some soda onto the page up and down keys, resutling in those keys not working. Recently I purchased her another latop and decided to reinstall Windows Xp Pro on the N500 for use with some camera software I have.
I decided to go ahead and order another keyboard from Amazon, for 21 bucks. I wiped the drive and used an OEM Xp Pro to reinstall windows. I was having some issues with sound and modem drivers and decided to go ahead and install SP3 on it to help out with the high def install of drivers. That worked great, but when I recieved the new keyboard Tuesday and install it, I noticed that some dual number letter keys were inputting numbers. I googled and was brought here where a number of posters stated several programs might be the cause. I searched and these programs WERE'NT installed on this, due to a clean install of OEM windows. This took me back to suare one, why. I'm very proficiant in PC's having built many custom machines and assisted others in repair. I decided to test the keyboard by using an flash drive with Linux on it. The keyboard worked like a champ, so that narrowed the issue to windows pr software inside it.
Booting back to windows I started thinking that possibly an update inside SP3. I removed SP3 and rebooted and the keyboard worked great, no errors. Sooo at this point, I installed SP2 to get more up to date on the system. Keyboard still works great at this point, but now the modem and the audio are complaining about driver packs. That was resoved with the install of the high def pack from Microsoft without installing SP3.
I'm posting this to let everyone know, there may be a possibility of an update in SP3 that may be causing keyboard errors. I haven't taken the time to narrow which update, since mine is now working fine, but be aware this conflict may exist.  This SP3 issue may be something that Lenovo needs to explore to head off issues as SP3 is forced onto users to get the high def update for audio.
The short story is, if you removed IDvault or GuardID and are still have issues, you might try removing SP3 thru add/remove programs. Reboot and see if the key board starts to funtion properly.
    >>BE AWARE!!<< removing SP3 may remove needed drivers causing devices to stop working. So good luck, hope this helps others.

I just did a clean install of WinXP SP2 on a 3000 N100 from the original restore CD. Everything appeared fine after installing SP3.
I went on to install several system drivers and support applications.
Then as soon as I installed the Lenovo Hotkey driver, I noticed some of the letter keys return digits , e.g. "R" > "6".
I tried uninstalling it using add/remove programs, but that didn't help.
An external USB keyboard works OK.
How can I back out of this problem?

  • Keyboard issue with cursor jumping to point on the page when typing

When I type on my notebook keyboard (HP Pavilion dv6-6167cl) it frequently jumps somewhere else in the area where I previously typed causing me to stop and correct what it did and move back to where I intended to type.  I have the latest driver for my Synaptics Touchpad driver already.  Any idea why this happens.  This is my second laptop, different manufacturers where I've had this same problem so I'm beginning to think it's a common issue with notebooks.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

    tdunnusa,
It may be inherent to the way in which you use the devices (keyboard and Touch/ClickPad).  Maybe not ... the drivers are not perfect.  We can all attest to adventures with Clickpad mystery entries..
Depending on the level of touch sensitivity (located under Pointing)
AND the level in the PalmCheck-Enhanced ACM setting, things can get a bit weird;  even touching the surface lightly can set the mouse cursor off course.
    Consider / try the following:
In your Synaptics Settings > Properties,
    Open the Pointing section,
Click on Sensitivity (to highlight) >> click on Spikey blue wheel (Sensitivity settings) >
Set the sensitivity level way over to the right side (Less sensitive)
    Apply
    Next:
Click to Open PalmCheck-Enhanced ACM  >> click on Spikey blue wheel (settings)
Slide the PalmCheck over to the RIGHT to Max
    Apply
Youcan adjust the Advanced filter zone - that is, control where  you can use the TouchPad for certain gestures and how long it takes for the zone to activate.   This can help for particular kinds of gestures, though it won't help for accidentally contact like brushing the surface with the palm of your hand.
These settings, when set to maximum, are likely too extreme - they may give you an idea whether the issue is related to how you are using the TouchPad.
    Kind Regards,
    Dragon-Fur

  • I hate my imac - what do i do now?

every day is a new and frustrating adventure with my imac. i've only had it 8 months and every day it's nothing but problems.
    1) ichat suddenly stopped working one day (after working just fine 5 or 6 times.
    2) it no longer recognizes my external hard drive (i've tried it on other imacs and they recognize it just fine)
    3) iTunes is a beast to use. it often takes as long as 45-60 seconds to click and listen to a new song.
    4) i can only do one thing at a time or risk the spinning wheel of death.
    5) performance is terrible. applications often don't quit and won't force quit, either. i have to unplug it from the wall constantly.
    6) it's the SLOWEST computer i've ever used -- hands down. it takes about 3 minutes to load iphoto and i don't have that many pictures in it.
    7) every time it goes to sleep it looses the wireless internet connection (and i have to go unplug the router and plug it in again -- as many as five times a night)
    8) sometimes it won't restart or shut down--it just freezes on the blue screen. i have to unplug it.
    9) sometimes iTunes won't burn a disc. i just get a 'checking media' message in the itunes window. i have to shut down iTunes and start over.
    10) discs get stuck in the drive CONSTANTLY. i have had 7 or 8 discs get seriously stuck. once i had to take to the place i bought it from. the other times i had to shut it down and hold the mouse down over ten times before it ejected.
this is only the beginning. i'm furious because i spent a lot of money on this machine and it's HORRIBLE. i'm having serious buyers regret. has anyone else had so many problems? if so, what did you do? what does anyone suggest i do? i've absolutely reached the breaking point and i'm ready to throw it out the windows. i shouldn't have to hassle with it every single day--not for the money i paid for it.

    Have you tried:
    - Repairing permissions?
    - Trashing your iChat preference file (or that of any other app which consistently refuses to launch or crashes)? (home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iChat.plist)
Are you saying you turn your computer off by unplugging it from the wall? That's an extremely damaging way to deal with problems, and it may well cause you a lot more problems. There are ways to power an unresponsive computer down that don't involve manhandling it. You can usually hold the power button down for about 10 seconds to force-shut down the computer if you absolutely have to - does this work for you?

How much RAM do you have? You don't mention it in your profile.
    7) every time it goes to sleep it looses the wireless
internet connection (and i have to go unplug the
router and plug it in again -- as many as five times
    a night)
Yes, it will disconnect from the network when it sleeps - so don't let it sleep. Set the monitor to sleep, but the computer to never sleep (Energy Saver preferences in System Preferences). You shouldn't have to reset the router, though. What kind of router do you have?
    10) discs get stuck in the drive CONSTANTLY. i have

This does sound like a physical problem. If the computer is still under warranty, this is definitely an issue that Apple should resolve.
Give the other remedies a try, and if you're low on RAM, add more, and let us know if it helps.
