My Boot Camp won't work properly on my Macmini
My macmini has bootcamp, but bootcamp says I need 10 GBs of free space, I have20 GBs of free space and it still win't reconize it!
20GB is never going to cut it, that is bare enough free space for just Mac OS to function.
XP use to be able to fit into 10GB - more like 15GB though - but that isn't supported or what you are planning to use as only Windows 7+ is supported. And that takes 32GB+ and more AND still have 20-25% and 20-30GB free available still for OS X.
You need to swap in a larger hard drive for this.

Setup.exe from Boot Camp won't work with Windows Xp Home SP2
Hi,
I just bought the great MacBook Pro. So I work over years in Windows it's absolutliy necessary to migrate my old System to MacBook. I succeeded in cloning my old installation completly to the MacBook and Windows is activated. when I start windows, of course no MacBook drivers are installed, so I have only a minimum of functionality. Now I want to start the BootCamp to install the drivers. But if I start "Setup.exe" it's ending immediately with: There were errors... before Boot camp could be initialized.
I downloaded the newest BootCamp (3.1) and start it, the program crashes!
I can't get it working!!! What have I to do - please help me!
I use Windows XP Home SP2.
Thanks! If you didn't try installing Boot Camp from your OS X disc, try that first.
From what you wrote it sounds like you somehow cloned your old install of windows over to a fresh partition. Depending on how you did this, the problem might lie here.
First, what version of OSX are you running?
If your MacBook Pro is new, it should come with Snow Leopard, which wouldn't explain the problem.
How exactly did you clone windows over?
Depending on how you cloned windows, your easiest solution might be to back up any files and applications you need from windows, remove the current Windows partition, and create a new partition and installation of Windows through Boot Camp on OSX. Normally Boot Camp should install its drivers after a successful installation of Windows. -
Will Boot Camp in leopard work with 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate?
I installed Boot Camp beta in Tiger. Then I installed the 64 bit version of windows Vista Ultimate. Many drivers were not installed such as the keyboard mapping driver. I bought Leopard. Should the version of Boot Camp in Leopard work with the 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate or would I probably encounter the same driver problems? Should I delete the Windows partition before upgrading to Leopard and then install the 32 bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate for all the drivers to work properly?
Please advise what to do.
Thank you very much in advance.Hi,
since the 'new' BootCamp 2.0 also only includes Driver support for the 32-bit Windows versions, you will get a 2nd Encounter.
Is there a specific reason for you to use the 64-bit versions, apart from maybe the 4GB RAM 'issue' ?
Installing the 32-bit version and then the Drivers from the OSX DVD should give you all the drivers needed.
Regards

Boot Camp won't partition, files cannot be moved.
I'm sure this has come up more times than anyone can count. I've searched for answers but still haven't found the solution. Boot Camp won't partition because some files cannot be moved.
I have defragmented my computer, it is all just one partition. I have 150+ GB of free space. I am only trying to partition 5 GB for windows, honestly that is more than i will need. The error of course tells me to back up my computer and reformat it. I have not done this yet because I believe it will be a last resort and will be unlikely to actually solve my problem. I'm sure there is at least 5 GB of continuous free space on my computer that could be partitioned. I am wondering what else i can do?
Also, if it does come down to backing my computer up, is it possible to back it up to another macbook? I don't want to waste money on an external just because Boot Camp is being picky.First, way too many people choose too small, and I though 10GB was the smallest for XP, and often was not enough to allow updates, patches, page, hibernation and temp space, let alone games, apps etc.
The only defrag I can think of that works are iDefrag and Drive Genius 2. But a backup + erase + restore is the best. Otherwise, your free space may still be fragmented or have files that prevent you, as is happening.
5GB for Windows doesn't sound like more than needed, or even enough.
External backup drives are never a waste. Even for just Mac OS. -
hi, i am badly in need of help. i partitioned my mac hd yesterday and now the boot camp is nt working as i was using win 7 on it. i am using macbook pro 13'' 2011. plz help me. anxiously waiting for response... specially from "Christopher murphy"
you can't add or mofidy partition numbers. especially not if and once you have windows installed.
boot from Windows 7 DVD afterwards
but first you have to tell us and Christopher what and how you partitioned your system.

Paragon CampTune
Paragon CampTune is a commercial product that is designed expressly for this task. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/camptune/ It consists of a downloadable ISO that needs to be burned to a disc and booted from in order to resize the partitions costs US$19.95.
Securing Dual-System Configuration
Imaging is still the most affordable and robust way to secure computer data. Unfortunately Mac OS X backs up only HFS+ volumes, leaving Windows with dual-system configurations unsecured. You can permanently lose all of your data unless you have a Windows-compatible backup solution.
Paragon’s CampTune and Paragon’s Drive Copy for Mac can secure the entire dual-system configuration. CampTune creates traditional images of volumes or entire hard disks, Drive Copy can copy them to other disks. In case of an emergency, you can restore the previously created image or copy all your data back to its original state.
GParted Live
GParted Live is similar to CampTune as it is also distributed as a bootable image that needs to be copied to a CD/DVD or USB flash drive. As free and open source software, distributed under the GPL, it will always be available free. Since it has more functions than CampTune, it may be harder for folks who are not as experienced with partitioning hard drives. http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
iPartition
Coriolis Systems' iPartition is a £29.95 ($44.95 US) utility that runs in Mac OS X and allows resizing of all of the relevant partition formats, including HFS+, FAT32, and NTFS. It provides a Mac-oriented user interface that may be easier to manage than some of the free utilities. As it is not capable of resizing the boot disk, it requires a bootable external disk or a boot DVD. (A tool to create a boot DVD is included.)
Paragon Partition Manager
From the makes of CampTune is a commercial tool that is similar in functionality to GParted Live, but has a more polished/friendly user interface than GParted Live. Previously only the US$79.95 Professional version supported all the features required for this, but as of version 11 the US$39.95 Personal version has also been reported to work. http://www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-personal/
Winclone/Disk Utility
Winclone is a free tool for creating and restoring backup images of your Windows partition. One of its key features is that it can restore to a larger partition than the one the image was created from.
NOTE: Winclone has been discontinued, but for now remains available and capable of completing these tasks (including creating and restoring Windows 7 images).
Winclone updated to support Lion Winclone updates and download
Disk Utility can resize HFS+ (Mac OS) partitions, but is currently incapable of resizing NTFS partitions, so you could use it to reduce the size of the HFS+ partition and create a new larger placeholder MS-DOS (FAT) partition
The full process would be:
Backup Windows partition with Winclone.
(if the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one make sure you set the preferences in Winclone to save the image as an uncompressed dmg)
Delete old Windows partition
Resize current Mac Partition
Create new Windows partition as MS-DOS (FAT) in free space after Mac OS partition.
(If the new Windows partition is smaller than the old one an additional step is required: shrink the filesystem on the image by selecting Tools->Shrink Windows (NTFS) Filesystem)
Reboot your computer for the new Windows partition to mount properly (winclone may not restore if you don't reboot)
Restore Winclone partition over new Windows partition
An alternate Winclone based process is described in the External Guides section
Native OS utilities
MR user Kazyua reports that you can use the disk management utilities provided with the current operating systems if you want to do it manually. Windows 7 and OS X both have partition resizing functions built in. In OS X, open Disk Utility and manually shrink the mac HFS+ partition by dragging the lower right corner. Then in windows go to the start menu and type "disk management" into the search box then hit enter. You should get an overview of the drives you have and the individual partitions. Right-clicking on the partition gives an "Extend Volume" option. The Windows NTFS volume should then be extended into the free space you created with Disk Utility. This method has not worked for other users, so try at your own risk.
Resizing under VMWare Fusion
If you are looking to allocate more space to Windows under VMWare please refer to the following thread http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=828182

Boot Camp Won't Let Me Partition
I have been trying to set up a Windows XP partition on my Macbook just to play some games, but Boot Camp won't let me partition my hard drive, saying that some files are unmovable and that I should reformat my entire hard drive. Any ideas how to get around this without losing all of my work?
None that I know of. If you have access to an external hard drive, go ahead with the backup. This way, you have a fallback no matter what happens.
In theory, when a backup is restored, files are laid down in a manner that minimizes fragmentation; so if successful in backing up, reinitializing and restoring the hard disk, you should be able to create the Boot Camp volume.
You could also experiment with creating a smaller Boot Camp volume. What the Assistant is looking for is an unbroken string of free space blocks--something between 5 GB and whatever your chosen partition size might be. Strange as it might sound, depending on your habits as a user, you might not have that unbroken string even when you have something like 100 GB free.
Hopefully, I've pointed you in a good direction here, though you may disagree with the solutions offered. They are simply the only known methods for dealing with this issue.

Boot camp doesn't work after Yosemite update..
Hi Loner T,
Like many people with the yosemite update, my boot camp no longer works.
I cannot find the drive when I'm booting up.
Startup Disk under system preferences only shows the Mac system and does not show any other option.
I've been trying to go through what you've posted to help other people but I've never even worked with terminal application before and everything is very confusing.

IPOD won't work properly if drive C: is available on your computer
The Windows XP driver for the Apple IPOD USB Device has a bug that makes your system very slow or even hang when you try to connect or eject your IPOD if Drive "C:" is available on your machine. Another symptom is that when you connect your ipod, the computer doesn't automatically launch the ITunes app and it is very slow to open manually.
A typical problem is that if your system has had a hard drive replaced and/or the drive "C" is not assigned for some reason, then the IPOD USB Driver will attach itself as drive "C:" and then it won't work properly seemingly because of conflicts with the Windows OS. Other USB devices never grab drive "C:" but this Apple-supplied device driver appears to think it is OK to use drive C: but then it doesn't work properly.
The fix is to make sure some real (physical) drive is always connected to or mapped to drive "C:" so that the IPOD USB driver attaches to a drive from "D:" and up.
Also try reading: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499 for more info.yeah, the ipod normally gets assigned the f, g, or h drive letters. i don't really know though if windows is responsible for assigning the drive letters to usb devices or the ipod driver. to my understanding the ipodservice.exe only makes sure that itunes can comunicate to the ipod through the drive letter that windows assigns to the ipod. windows is the os and therefore responsible for managinig its drive letters.

Keypad won't work properly on 'A'
I need help about my keyboard. i'm using a curve 8520 on 0S5.
My letter 'A' in the keyboard suddenly won't work properly.. Just a soft touch and it would appear automatically... in Uppercase. Because of this, i am having a hard time when typing. i copy paste the lower case 'a' so typing would be easy.
Also, since the 'lock' is also in that key, my phone would always lock automatically and with that... my phone seems to go 'off' and i would have to longpress any key so it would come alive again.
i tried the application clean-up thing in the desktop manager as @BlackberryHelp tweeted me when i asked them about this but still there are no changes.. i also tried putting a tissue in the back of the metal plate thing. i am so worried coz i just got this phone 3 months ago. Please help me about this! Thank you so much.i managed to unlock my phone by keeping power on, remove battery and presto its unlocked. problem is stil letter "a" in keypad is not working can anyone suggest how to fix it instead of going to a technician?

Boot camp won't install anything?
I've had my mini along with others running XP for a few years and have even installed windows 7 rc version as a beta tester and never had a problem till today. I had reinstalled XP after the test version of win 7 expired everything was fine, that was about 4 months ago. today I was trying to install a 30 day windows 7 32 bit version and after I partioned and hit the install button it would shut off come back on and then shut off again with no way to get back up until I held down the mouse to eject the install disk, while doing a manual restart with the power button. I even tried to reinstall XP and had the same result. My question is , does this have anything to do with 64 bit versus 32 bit or is something else wrong? Did the lastest update change something? I was thinking I would reinstall the disk that came with it to get as it first came out and then try to install windows before updating. any ideas would be appreciated ,thanks
It's not a problem; the Boot Camp Assistant is working as it's designed to. If desired, run Windows Vista inside a program such as VirtualBox instead.
