My device was auto-updated to the latest firmware (has been doing so since I purchased about 2 years ago) and I now have the issue of the capacity of the device not displaying on the dashboard and also my cloud access dropped and I cant connect from external networks....
Why release firmware that is going to cause issues.... I had this capacity issues before and the previous firmware seem to fix this problem but now its back... well done WD!
Hi doylecolmdoyle,
We have passed this along to support.

  • About to buy the EA4500 dont want to upgrade to cloud firmware

Hi , im about to buy a Linksys EA4500 router. Ive been reading that there is a forced update. And i would have to use the cloud. If i brought the EA4500 and connected it to my pc but did not connect it to my modem for internet access. And then went to the web interface. Is there an option to disable automatic updates Ie manual upgrade and untick upgrade automatically on the firmware option that comes out of the boxed EA4500?
    Thx in advance
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Hi! If you want to disable the automatic update, all you have to do is to access the advanced settings page by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of a browser. It will try to guide you with the setup process, but you can skip it (you will see a link to skip the setup). If it asks for for the local access login, use 'admin'. Click the connectivity tab on the left. Once the window will open, you will see a checked box for 'Automatic' under firmware update. Uncheck the box and click Apply. BTW, even if the router has the cloud firmware, you can always choose to access it locally and not via cloud.

  • Has the cloud firmware upgrade being fixed yet?

I am looking to buy a new router (E3200 or greater)
All the reviews are complaining about that specific firmware upgrade that users` have been forced to with the cloud thing.
    Is this still in place/happening?

This issue was clarified in this site: http://blogs.cisco.com/home/update-answering-our-customers-questions-about-cisco-connect-cloud-2/. These are the items tackled in that blog: Linksys customers are not required to sign-up for the Cisco Connect Cloud service and they are able to opt-out of signing up for an account, Customers can set-up and manage their Linksys router without signing up for a Cisco Connect Cloud account, Cisco will not arbitrarily disconnect customers from the Cisco Connect Cloud service based on how they are using the Internet, Cisco Linksys routers are not used to collect information about Internet usage, Cisco only retains information that is necessary to sign up for and support the Cisco Connect Cloud service , Cisco will not push software updates to customers’ Linksys routers when the auto-update setting is turned off.

  • Security breach in new EA4500 Cloud firmware

I was able to access local router settings without the password. Where should I privately send the details of the attack, as it would be dangerous to make it public at this moment?

I'm responding to this on behalf of CIsco.   You can email the information to the Product Security Incident Repsonse Team (PSIRT)  at [email protected]
If you have encryption capability, you can encrypt the mail to the public key for [email protected]
Here is Cisco's procedure for reporting security vulnerabilities that you can verify before sending in the report.

    Hello,
Just bought this router and update the firmware. 2 points.
Not being able to connect a USB printer for MAC OSX is a show stopper. I will return it and take another brand if a solution is not provided shortly.
So far I am not impressed by the speed. No improvement in range over Belkin 300N
    Regards.
What specific version of Mac? Is that the Lion? Are you setting up virtual USB printer using the latest version of Cisco Connect?

Here is my experience with this firmware release thus far:
     - Internet connectivity was broken after the FW installation.  I had to do a factory reset in order to restore internet connectivity.
     - Multiple times I keep getting the "Router is not connected" popup window, even though I am hardwired to the router.  This has to be the most frustrating bug of all - when hardwired there is no way I couldn't be connected to the router.
Given that first issue above, it makes me so very glad I've disabled automatic firmware upgrades.  If it had done this update while I was sleeping, I would have been even more frustrated than I already am at this router.
Since I'm still w/in my return period for this router, I do plan on doing some more shopping for its replacement.  A router should not require as much "work" as this one has.
When you got the error "router is not connected" did you check if the leds were okay or on at the back panel of the router? My experience so far with installing or upgrading the firmware is to reset the device first before doing so. That is the work around I have always tried and works for me all the time. Have you tried by the way the Smart Wi-fi software for this router?

    - Added control to the browser-based GUI, so that a user can manually enable/disable Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
    - Resolved interoperability issue with ISP DHCP server that mandates client identifier option (option 61).

    Post your feedback here. Thanks.

I'm not sure which firmware this bug was introduced, but my current router (e1200) is running on firmware 2.0.02. My problem is slow download speeds on my wireless N devices when WMM is enabled. When WMM is enabled, I'm getting download speeds of .5 MBPS. When I disable WMM, my download speeds jump to 20mbps. I have noticed this issue on the following wireless devices.
iPhone 4s running latest Apple OS
Acer a500 tablet running latest version of ice cream sandwich.
Asus (pce-n10) wireless-N network adapter running on windows 7 (64bit)
My upload speeds are not effected just download speeds.

  • How to enable SSID broadcast? (E4200 Cloud f/w)

I got E4200 v.2 with the latest cloud firmware. On the previous (non-cloud) firmware there was an option to enable or disable SSID broadcast, and I disable it. Now I want to enable it back, but can not find this option in Cisco Connect Cloud.
So there is a question: how to enable SSID broadcast on the E4200 v.2 with Cisco Connect Cloud firmware?
    wbr, bg

In your case, you need to reset the router to factory defaults, at which point the SSID will be set to broadcast and it cannot be disabled. To know more about why there is no option to disable the SSID broadcast anymore on the Cloud firmware, click here.

  • EA4500 just installed - getting "Important Update" notice. Cloud??

I just now installed a new EA4500 Router. It installed itself automatically without a problem, by running the setup CD. No devices other than my hard wired computer and modem are connected yet.
When I went into Start > Cisco Connect to look around and check it's version, etc., I immediately got a "There's an important update for your router" notice.  My concern is not wanting to install The Cloud at this time (although I wouldn't rule it out later). There has not been a trace of it so far.
I currently have  Firmware Version:  2.0.36.126507  and  Software Version:  1.4.12100.0.
Does anyone know what this Important Update may be? Is it the "dreaded" Cloud?  I'd rather avoid the whole rolling back to pre-Cloud issue for now, if possible.
This is my first router and I just want to keep things as simple and basic as possible at least temporarily.
    Thank you.

2 reasons why I prefer the cloud.
    1.  I tried configuring the USB with 2.0.37 and just drew an absolute blank on how to do it.  I've configured NAS drives before and it was a piece of cake.  It appears they have changed some things in the USB "shares and permissions" section for the cloud firmware.  It makes sense now.  It took me 5 minutes to configure my USB drive with the cloud firmware.
    2.  I have a dynamic public ip address.  And I don't have a dyndns or tzo (ddns) account.  If I'm out of town and need to access my hard drive that is attached to the router, all I have to do is use the free app on my iphone to find out what my public ip address is.   And I just use an FTP app on the iphone to access the drive from anywhere.
Other than that, there's not much difference that I've personally noticed.

  • Needed: EA3500 Original Firmware

If someone has the original firmware for the EA3500 I would appreciate a copy. I need to downgrade my router after Cisco sabotaged it with their Cloud Connect. This will be the firmware you have right out of the box. Be sure you go into the Admin. section and Save a Copy before you ever connect to the Internet. Also Uncheck the Auto Updates box or you will be fed the Cloud Connect (and its amazing Terms Of Service). Thank you for any help

Was checking for more info about this concern and I stumbled upon this, looks like Cisco is addressing this concern:

  • No opt-out for cloud? I am incensed.

I bought a Cicsco/Linksys EA4500 router a few weeks ago based on good reviews on Amazon.  I see now that the package probably said something about the cloud but if I saw it I'm sure I assumed it was some feature for which I would not sign up.
At no time was I advised that the cloud would be mandatory with no opt-out once it rolled out.  This morning I see that I am being prompted to either sign a new EULA or roll back to firmware that Cisco will probably not support.  This is completely unacceptable. The Cisco cloud may be really cool and awesome but the fact remains that the product I bought has been disabled by Cisco and it appears I have no way to make it functional without agreeing to new terms.
I would not be upset at all if the cloud sign up page had a "Not now" checkbox so that I could sign up at my leisure. I have no interest in sharing data with Cisco and even less interest in making my routers accessible from anywhere outside of my local LAN.
If I still have the packaging for it I'm returning it today.

jawhitti, before you return your router, read what has happened since Cisco forced the cloud firmware (Cloud) on all of us unexpectedly. We share the same feelings as you and have been trying since Wednesday to get the original firmware, we call it the Classic firmware, posted. Finally on Friday Cisco publically posted the Classic firmware. Many of us have upgraded from the Cloud firmware to the Classic firmware and now our routers behave as we bargained for when we made the purchase.
However there remains one last piece to make everybody whole and that is an update to our Classic firmware that contains the fixes that were in the Cloud firmware. I personally think Cisco didn't foresee the firestorm of protest from its Cloud program. Again, if you read the posts you will see how many angry users and companies' IT people are responding. I am hopeful Cisco will make the right decision at the beginning of next week and provide the Classic firmware with the fixes. I feel Cisco knows that their Cloud strategy may have not been fully thought through and will proceed in a far more user-friendly way.

  • Firmware upgrade on EA3500 - should I do it?

After bad experience with CCC I have downgraded firmware on EA3500 and noticed that it is seems to be older then it used to be when the router arrived to me:
    Firmware version: 1.0.30.126544
I have marked a auto update feature and when hiting to check for updates, it says that it is up to date. Is it? If not, should I do the update? Please advise.

It is the latest Non Cisco Cloud firmware according to the website. No need to update.

  • Happy with My Cloud but dead end product?

I'm mostly happy with the 4t my cloud that I've had for less than a year. Its reliable. I bought it to not only be a media server but get me out of using dropbox, onedrive etc. The problem is that its advertised as such( a cloud replacement) but Wd implementation of these features is lacking. Ive had to make do with cumbersome workarounds.Recently I was emailed a survey from Wd about experiences with the my cloud and what features I like or feel are missing. It sure got my hopes up that some new features would be coming soon. Now however I see all these updates going on with the Mirror and other devices from Wd including Plex and even a dropbox app, but nothing for the basic mycloud! Did I buy a dead end product that wd has no hope of updating?

Yes you did. Most products, when purchased, are ultimately dead end products. Manufacturers (or software companies) may fix certain errors with their products but they rarely add new features to that product. If you were expecting the product to do something that it doesn't, or you need some feature it doesn't support out of the box, then you purchased the wrong product. The Mirror is a completely separate device designed to meet a (slightly) different market need than the WD My Cloud. There very well could be reasons, like due to the processor used on the WD My Cloud or other hardware limitations, why they have not bother to add "features" like Plex or Dropbox to the WD My Cloud Firmware. Or its possible they'd rather not take sales away from another WD product that does support Plex or Dropbox. The WD My Cloud is a relatively low cost product designed to do one or two specific tasks (NAS and DLNA) and it generally accomplishes those tasks. As evidenced by the posts in this forum there are addional features one can add by hacking their WD My Cloud. And other companies such as Silicondust (HDHomeRun) apparently will have modules that can be added to the WD My Cloud to add new features. Plex or Dropbox could choose to add their functionality to the base WD My Cloud devices but apparently have chosen not to. If one takes note of the Plex NAS Compatibility document they'd see that while certain more advanced WD My Cloud devices (like the Mirror) are supported all of them either do not support video transcoding or one or two models (because of the processor used) might support only 720p video transcoding. The ability to transcode video is a major feature of Plex. WIthout it, the software looses much of its usefullnes (at least for me). It, again for me, becomes just another glorified UI interface for a media server with some nice features. There are a whole host of features I'd love to see WD fix or add to the WD My Cloud UI and the various WD apps (Smartware, WD Photo, WD My Cloud Desktop, etc) to enhance the usability of the WD My Cloud and give the end user much more control over the shared folders and Twonky media server. For example, the simple fact that there is no sublevel "share" folder control through the UI is mind boggling to down right stupid. But the fact remains that for a basic low cost NAS and DLNA media server, the WD My Cloud probably works just fine for most people.

  • Why does everybody hate Cisco Cloud Connect so much ??

Just upgraded from e4200v1 to the ea4500. I may be a minority but I actually find the new cloud firmware a refreshing change and I installed it by choice. The original firmware was just feeling a litte dated after years of owning linksys routers.  I'll agree it is a little slow but I am sure that will be addressed. As for those saying it has been streamlined,  I was able to find almost all important settings that often actually need configuring in a few minutes. As for it being full of bugs, If you want to see buggy firmware buy an asus router, I just returned one it was so bad.
While I can't figure out why one would really need to remotely access their router the ability to fire up the guest network or monitor devices on my router from my phone is really cool. I'm anxious to see what Cisco/Linksys have in mind for upcoming releases, it opens the door for so many possibilities.

I am looking at the box of my EA4500 and there is nothing on it about CCC.  That was added after the fact.  In fact most EA4500s out there now were pre-CCC.  You clearly don't have an EA4500 in your hands, there's nothing on the box talking about CCC.  Cisco Connect software is not the same thing as Cisco Cloud Connect, right?  Because that's what's mentioned on the box.
Try finding a 4200v2 for sale then try finding a 4500, price is nearly the same( only $10 difference) , the devices have very similar specs if not identical.  So, you would save a whole $10 for last years model?  Not the best plan for me.
As far as complaining about a cloud implementation for a local device?  Really?  You think this is a good idea?  You think that this works "well"?  I've asked before and I'll ask you since you want to go after me for voicing my opinion on a thread that's asking people what's wrong with the software...  Would you put your home thermostat control "in the cloud" so that you could control it remotely and remove any local control option?  That would be silly wouldn't it?  If your access to the control ever gets interrupted for any reason, you can no longer control your device.  This is what happens here.
As for software support...  Cisco already isn't supporting their software.  You cannot use any of their installation or update software if you are using Mac OS X Mountain Lion.  At this time the OS has been available for a month and a half and Cisco doesn't appear to be doing anything to provide support for an OS that is guaranteed support according to the system requirements on the box.
