My Drive D: is locked into an attribute of Read-Only

Hello,
For some reason, as of recent, my Drive D: has become a Read-Only drive. I have only one physical drive so this is an extension as originally purchased in my 1.5 yr. old ASUS notebook, then running WIN8. I had upgraded to WIN8.1 and then about several months
ago, again upgraded to WIN8.1 PRO to allow the encryption of this machine for required work purposes. I installed Bitlocker as required. Although Bitlocker was apparently successful, it did not fully encrypt the machine. After a call to ASUS, I find this machine
is one of those that the manufacture just felt not to include that capability! So currently none of the drives are checked to include encryption and had been working fine until about a week ago when I tried to move some files to Drive D:.
I have done the following:
1. Ran CHKDSK, no problems
2. Ran DISKPART with the Attrib commands which were successful to remove read only, but in realty didn't change the condition.
3. Verified ALL permission on this drive were provided even in the Advanced option, no issues.
4. Ran professional Drive Management software which was unable to modify the drive due to the read-only status.
I was unsuccessful to find any tool or process in which to check the overall status of Bitlocker or to completely remove it. I have no need for it since it can't perform, and therefore continues to be my personal machine. I mention Bitlocker in case this has
a bearing. This has been working and performing well since that time until last week.

Hi,
Please try the following method to modify the D drive read only flag for test.
1. Run DiskPart
2. List and select the disk(LIST DISK followed by SELECT DISK <disk #>)
3. If the disk is offline, bring it online by running ONLINE DISK
4. View the attributes by running DETAIL DISK
The command DETAIL DISK may give an output similar to the following
DISKPART> detail disk
<SAN Device>
Disk ID: ########
Type : <type>
Bus : #
Target : #
LUN ID : #
Read-only : Yes
Boot Disk : No
Pagefile Disk : No
Hibernation File Disk : No
Crashdump Disk : No
5. To clear the read only flag, run ATTRIBUTE DISK CLEAR READONLY
6. Exit DiskPart
You should now be able to write to the disk.

  • How to set a extended attribute as read-only in runtime

    Hi Team,
    I would like to set a extended attribute as read-only in runtime based in a condition.
    I tried with "Criterion" in a extended model definition, but if the condition is false the content field disappear.
    Best regards

    Hi Bruno,
    About the first part of your problem : User with permission and user without permission.
    To meet your needs I would have defined a Group named "WithPermission" and associated this group to a Member (user) "A"
    While other users would not have been associated with this group.
    When an user login I would have checked what groups that are associated with. If the group "WithPermission" was found I would have allowed the current login user to write "My Example". If the current login user was not associated to group name "WithPermission". The user would not have been able to edit the field.
    I did a search in the metamodel object and I found nothing Method. Following my reading it seems that it is not possible. Read below.
    In Sybase Guide "Customizing and Extending PowerDesigner" - CHAPTER 7: Scripting PowerDesigner you can read the following :
    Manipulating the Repository By Script
    PowerDesigner lets you access the Repository feature via scripting using the RepositoryConnection as BaseObject global property.
    It allows you to retrieve the current repository connection, which is the object that manages the connection to the repository server and provides access to documents and objects stored under the repository.
    The RepositoryConnection is equivalent to the root node in the Repository browser.
    You can access the repository documents, but you cannot access the repository administration objects, like users, groups, configurations, branches, and list of locks. In addition, only the last version of a repository document is accessible using scripting.
    As described by Dirk I think the only thing you can do is to make a check on a specific username. Unfortunately it will be "hard coded" in your program. Or If you can by vb script access the repository tables. You could resolve your problem by checking Group permission associated to each users logged in..

  • NULL values are inserted into interface table for read only columns

    Hi, I developed a custom Integrator where some of the columns has to be displayed as read only in the layout. I am using SQL content to populate the data. When I upload the data NULL values are inserted into table interface? Is there any work around for this?
    Thanks

    Doesn't WebADI drive you insane at times?
    I must say, when it's all working it looks great and it is very user friendly (end-user that is, NOT for developers!) but before you get to that stage… please please Oracle invest some time making Web ADI a bit more logical an coherent, get the obvious bugs out, please let us not have to update BNE tables anymore to get things done.
    Anyway, I sorted this one out by setting the Width to zero (0) in the Layout. HTH.

  • How to lock a form (all fields read only) using a button (JavaScript)

    Hi guys,
    I have a form with several input fields, check boxes. Using a button in the form, I would like to lock it using a JavaScript. Locking means in my case that all input fields, checkboxes, etc. are read only (cannot be changed anymore).
    I already use the following approach:
    data.form.MyInputField.access = "readOnly";
    The problem is, that this approach is not comforable from maintenance perspective. I would like a more generic or more simple way.
    Generic:
    loop over all fields and set them to "read only"
    Simple:
    xfa.form.lock; // but this does not work
    Do you have any ideas how to solve this requirement in another way as I currently do?
    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Now I used the following script:
    // set the whole form as container
    var objContainer = data.Report;
    // call the method to set all fields to read only (recursion)
    disableAllFields(objContainer);
    function disableAllFields(objContainer) {
         for (var i=0; i < objContainer.nodes.length; i++) {
              switch (objContainer.nodes.item(i).className) {
                   case "field" :
                   case "exclGroup" :
                        objContainer.nodes.item(i).access = "readOnly";
                        break;
                   case "subform" :
                        disableAllFields(objContainer.nodes.item(i));
                        break;
                   default:
    It works but is there another possibilitiy such like
    form.lock;
    Thanks,

  • Hard Drive Not Mounting After Being Magically Changed to Read Only

    I was using a firewire connected, verbatim 1tb drive as a time machine. Everything had been working fine, but I walked away from my laptop for the morning and came back this afternoon to find my hard drive changed to read only. Time machine wouldn't back up to the hard drive; so, I rebooted.
    Since then, I haven't been able to get the hard drive to mount. It won't show up in Drive Utility or on the desktop. I have rebooted the hard drive, unplugged it, turned it on and off.
    What should I do? How do I fix this? It has my backups and my music. I'm no amused.

    I've had exactly the same trouble this morning.
    I'm using a MacBook Pro with my Time Machine on a portable Hard Drive. When doing my regular back up the computer froze. I force restarted the computer and the TM drive came up as 'Read Only'.
    So, I rebooted again and the drive is not mounting at all. I can see it connected through System Profiler, however the drive isn't showing up in Disk Utility.
    Does anyone have any ideas? Coz I don't seem to be the only one with this issue.

  • VFAT drive keeps turning into read only

    I notice that I one of my mounted VFAT drives, after online for a while, is becoming read only. Why would this happen? To resolve it, I have to umount and then mount it. After a while, I have to do it again. Here's the relevant line in my fstab:
    /dev/hdb1 /mnt/back vfat auto,umask=000,uid=1000,gid=100 0 0
    My user id and gid are the ones you see above. Here's an ls -l output of that partition:
    drwxrwxrwx 37 ralvy users 32768 2006-02-07 19:03 back
    No writes or deletes can be done on that drive right now.
    A few seconds later, after umount/mount of /mnt/back ...
    All is fine again. Why?
    I'm running Arch current/extra up to date.

    Found this for that day:

    Feb 7 11:43:17 tux fat_free_clusters: deleting FAT entry beyond EOF
    Feb 7 11:43:17 tux File system has been set read-only
    So I just did
    fsck -t vfat -a /mnt/back

  • Creating row in a recursive view having read-only attribute

    Hi All,
    I am using Oracle JDeveloper 11g Release 2.
    I have a view AppMenusVO with the participation of following entities:
    1. AppMenusEO *(Updateable)* with columns like MenuId, MenuName, MenuIcon, MenuParentId, MenuTaskflowId
    2. AppTaskflowsEO *(Reference)* with columns as TaskflowId, TaskflowName, and TaskflowURL
    3. AppMenusEO as ParentMenus *(Reference)* with columns as ParentMenuId, ParentMenuName
    Next I created a One..Many view link where source and destination entity is the AppMenusVO based on relation (MenuId=MenuParentId). The name of the view accessor is MenuChildren.
    This view is used to create af:treeTable component on the adf page. In order to create new row I am following the blog entry at http://jobinesh.blogspot.com/2010/05/crud-operations-on-tree-table.html.
    I created a business method in the application module with the following specification:
        public void createMenuChildren(RowIterator ri, Key selectedNodeKey) {
            if (ri != null && selectedNodeKey != null) {
                Row[] found = ri.findByKey(selectedNodeKey, 1);
                if (found != null && found.length == 1) {
                    System.out.println("Node found for : " + selectedNodeKey + " Parent Id : " +
                                       found[0].getAttribute("MenuParentId"));
                    Row foundRow = found[0];
                    RowSet childRows = (RowSet)foundRow.getAttribute("MenuChildren");
                    while (childRows.hasNext()) {
                        Row r = childRows.next();
                        System.out.println(r.getAttribute("MenuName"));
                    Row childrow = childRows.createRow();
                    childrow.setAttribute("MenuParentId", foundRow.getAttribute("MenuParentId"));
                    childRows.insertRow(childrow);
                } else {
                    System.out.println("Node not Found for " + selectedNodeKey);
        }When I invoke this method from the adf page it is giving the exception An attemp is made to validate an already invalid region site.
    The Jdeveloper console is also throwing the exception oracle.jbo.ReadOnlyAttrException: JBO-27008: Attribute ParentMenuName in view object AppMenusVO_MenuChildren_ParentMenusVL_AppMenusVO cannot be set.
    I searched Google and OTN but unable to resolve the error.
    The solution I have tried are:
    The default activity on the BTF is marked and is pointing to a valid view.
    Set the activation property of region to immediate ... etc.
    BUT the issue persists.
    Any help to create row programmatically in recursive view where some of the attributes are read-only?
    Thanks in advance
    Best Regards
    Bilal

    Hi Frank,
    Thanks for the response.
    The updateable property of ParentMenuName attribute is Never and is being disabled so I am unable to change its value. Moreover, never in my code I am changing value of this field. What I am doing is trying to create a new row and then insert it into rowset. I don't know how to proceed further.
    One more thing is that I have an LOV on another column MenuParentId which returns value in this field as well. It might be the reason? ...
    Any help will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Hard drive is read only now

    My brother hooked my external hard drive to his computer and now that I plugged it back into mine, it is read only. How can I change it back? I need to access all of my info.

    Without know what he did to screw up your drive we would only be guessing.
    If you would post a screen shoot of the information pane for the drive that might give a clue as to what he did to you.

  • Seagate Drive as Read Only

    Hi I was using my External Seagate 3 TB Hard Drive on a Mac Mini that I just Borrowed from a friend and I just bought my Mac Pro now when I use this Hard Drive in the Mac Pro seems to be Read Only but if I conect it back into th Mac Mini appears as Write and Read, how can I change that????

    maybe the mini has NTFS driver from someone like Paragon and the Seagate drive and any NTFS volume would be read-only normally unless you use 3rd party driver.
    Paragon updated their NTFS to v. 11 to support Mavericks and better support 10.6.8 and up.

  • My external hard drive is in Read Only mode...

    My external hard drive, which I have used before, is in "Read Only Mode."
    I have put files on this drive and taken files off of it before, so it isn't an NTFS issue.
    I am still able to write with a different Mac.
    FYI, this is a Late-2011 Macbook Air.

    You are about to format your storage device. Be sure to copy and take the back up before formatting. Just select the physical disc you want to reformat in the tree on the left-hand side of Disk Utility. You can select a new file system format from the drop down below, and also name the new volume to be created. Showing the info of the newly formatted drive, you can see the disc is now set to read and write.

  • FireWire External Drive - Read Only Filesystem

    I have a strange issue that I have not been able to resolve.  I have an external hard drive connected to my iMac that has a read only file system.  I have used it for years without issue.  It switched to read only just recently.
    Here are the details:
    27-inch, Mid 2011 iMac
    Processor  2.7 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory  12 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.8.4 (12E55)
    The drive in question:
    Mount Point :          /Volumes/DATA
    Capacity : 2 TB (2,000,054,960,128 Bytes)
    Format : Mac OS Extended
    Available : 450.83 GB (450,826,641,408 Bytes)
    Owners Enabled : No
    Used : 1.55 TB (1,549,228,318,720 Bytes)
    Number of Folders : 15,989
    Number of Files : 84,118
    As you can see, everything is set to Read & Write.  However when I try to remove a file, I get:
    $ rm -f test.file
    rm: test.file: Read-only file system
    If I try to write a file I get:
    $ touch test.file
    touch: test.file: Read-only file system
    I have run the First Aid utilities and everything checks out OK:
    The volume DATA appears to be OK.
    Rebooting does not fix the issue either.  After searching here and the interwebs, I haven't found a solution.  Only references to FAT/NTFS formatted drives.
    Is there anything else I can do that I missed?

    Thank you Linc & MrJavaDeveloper!
    I'm not throwing these suggestions out the window, but they would also be exhiiting some other symptoms too.  With indexing issues, it shouldn't impact the inode or anything dealing with the filesystem.
    The good thing is that the data is all still good and is readable.
    First Aid is still the name of the tab in Disk Utility :-)
    Regardless, I got impatient and I didn't have a spare drive to copy the data off of it so that I can rebuild this drive.  So I nuked it and recreated the partition.  Now I have to wait a couple of weeks for my restore from CrashPlan to finish :-P.

  • How to attach an external USB drive read-only

    I would like to hook up an external USB hard drive and would like to do so in such a manner as to ensure that absolutely nothing is modified on the drive at all. Is there some way I can specify this before I connect the drive or while I plug it in? (e.g. hold down the shift key or something like that.) I have found all sorts of posts from folks who wanted to know how to turn off read-only mode, but haven't had much luck finding out how to turn it on.
    I noticed recently when I plugged in a USB stick that it sat and blinked for some time. I'm guessing that OS X was busy indexing the drive. I'm not sure if the index was written back to the USB stick, or cached somewhere locally. If it was written back to the USB stick, I would like to prevent this from happening when I plug in a real drive.
    Thanks for any tips you can give me.
    --wpd

    If the drive is formatted NTFS, it will automatically mount read-only. If it is formatted HFS+ or FAT, I don't know of any way to external drives to mount read-only without installing OS X Server for $500.

  • Lifecycle issue with table binding + read-only attributes: ADF BUG

    Hello all,
    I have found what I believe to be an easily reproducible bug in ADF that reproduces in 10.1.3.x, but not in 11g (at least not in drop 6). The best way to describe the bug would be to walk through a simple set of steps to reproduce the bug:
    1). Create a new application (ADF BC + ADF Faces).
    2). In the model project, create a new Entity Object from the Employee table in the default HR schema. Allow JDev to create an updatable view object and an AM as well.
    3). Put a validation rule on the first name attribute of the EO (can be anything, really - I made mine so that the first name cannot be "foo").
    4). Test everything using the BC tester if you like.
    5). In the UI project, create a new JSPX page.
    6). Drag the updatable VO on to your page as an updatable af:table.
    7). Put an af:commandButton on the page. Bind its Action or ActionListener to a method in a new backing bean. Put some simple code (I used System.out.println) in the backing bean method.
    8). Run the jspx page.
    9). Put some invalid data in (e.g. "foo" in the first name field) and click the af:commandButton. Verify that you get an error message and that the Action/ActionListener method DOES NOT fire. So far, so good.
    10). Now, to demonstrate the problem. First, look at the page definition for the jspx file. Identify the first attribute that is mentioned (in my case, it was the employee id).
    11). Go to the updatable view object and make the attribute from #10 read-only or updatable when new only.
    12. Now, repeat step 9 - you should see the error message AND also see that the Action/ActionListener method was executed. You will also see in the messages window that ADF attempted to set the value of the read-only attribute, and thus got a ReadOnlyAttrException.
    This issue only happens if the first attribute mentioned in the table binding is read-only. A workaround would simply be to re-order the attributes in the table binding of the pagedef so that the first attribute isn't read-only.
    Don't ask how I figured this out ;)
    Best,
    John

    Hi Frank,
    Yes, I simply scripted it out this way to contrast the behaviour if the first attribute was read-only vs not read-only. I found the issue on a page in our app that was simply drag-and-drop the VO from the data control on the page.
    It's quite annoying, because our particular use case that hit this error is a "save" button on the page. If the commit operation doesn't return any errors (and it doesn't in this use case!), we add a JSF message saying "save successful" - then the attribute errors are further added later in the page lifecycle, so we get 3 messages: "Save successful" and "Fix this error" and "Tried to set read-only attribute" - quite confusing to the end-user when the only message they should see is "fix this error."
    At any rate, the fix is to simply re-order the attributes in the page definition - that doesn't affect the UI at all, other than to fix this issue.

  • Locking a subset of Wiki pages as read-only: Is this possible?

    I have a workspace setup where all participants have workspace-member role privilege which allows them to update content - and in particular - wiki pages. This is a business requirement for this particular site purpose.
    However - I would like to lock down one (or more) wiki pages within the pages on this workspace - as read-only.
    Is it possible to have some pages within a workspace locked as read-only to named users - while the other wiki pages are available for update to workspace participants? If so - how?
    Thank you

    Hi,
    No, we cannot selectively lock down Wiki pages as read only unfortunately as we don't have access controls at the individual page level.
    However, what may be doable is for you to flag the page as non-changeable and to set up an RSS feed to the Wiki page and if anyone changes it you can go in an look at who did it and more importantly you can roll it back to the previous version as the change logs will be kept and can be backed out if required. There is an entry here: http://weblog.oraclecorp.com/weblog/team/Beehive that shows how to set up specific RSS feeds.
    Not ideal but a possible way of catching any unauthorized change and correcting it + giving you the culprit :-)

  • Alternate drives in Jar file Class-Path attribute

    Hello, all. I am working on a project that I would like to package into a single jar file for simple execution. At my place of work classes from EJB are stored on a different drive from where I am doing the development. I am having trouble accessing those classes from the Jars I am creating. When I try the following manifest:
    Main-Class: MyPackage.MyClass
    Class-Path: U:\someFolder
    the application will not start, saying that MyPackage.MyClass cannot be found. This is despite MyPackage.MyClass being properly packaged into the Jar file, as verified by a jar t operation. When I leave off the drive letter in the Class-Path attribute:
    Main-Class: MyPackage.MyClass
    Class-Path: someFolder
    the application starts and executes properly right up until a class from someFolder is needed, at which point exceptions begin to be thrown.
    Any ideas will be much appreciated!
    John Todd

    I was eventually able to find the answer to my own question: Jars do not accept absolute paths at all, only relative paths. Thus, the alternate drive approach will not work. Fortunately I was able to find an alternate solution.
