My experience upgrading to SL

Let me share my experience upgrading to LEO
Before installing :
- I run Time Machine to backup all
- I read some posts, and also compatibility list (www.snowleopard.wikidot.com)
(It seems that there is a lot of posts about HP products)
- I upgraded my apps to last versions availables, through Apple update (System, iApps), I even upgraded my 10.5.6 to 10.5.8
- I did a cleaning with Onyx (repair permissions, etc,...)
- At install : Option Rosetta on
After update to Leo
- I was forced to re-install my Epson C86 driver (through Apple prefs : easy)
- Aperçu was not able to drive my Canon scanner (1240U : 10 years old...)
But the Canon soft runs OK (Canoscan Toolbox)
- VERY Annoying for me : my PowerMate (Griffin Techs) doesn't run anymore, and there's no update..
About softwares :
- iApps and Finder : perfect (iMovie HD6 : crashed at 1st launch, but never after...). Are really faster, specially Mail : retrieves mails instantly,
- all OK : Office 2004, Photoshop CS, Filemaker 8.5, VLC (for MKV codecs), even old apps, are OK
- QTX don't run MKV files (but VLC does)
- Crash : aMSN only (so I will use MSN or Mercury)
- Parallels 4 runing XP : REAAAALLY FAAASTER, it's amazing !!!
- Boot Camp runing XP : SAME : the Mac is still the best PC !!!!
- Virtualbox runing XP : (yes I have 3 boot WinXP partitions, don't blame on me :)) : runs slower, and even really slower. but I'm not on the last version (2.0.6)
- Gimp under X11 : 1st launch : VEEEEERY SLOW (I Thought it was freezed !)
but after : launch speed is OK and even fast !!!
- an advise : don't launch Cocktail : Crashs are reported on some posts
My conclusion is very positive : very smooth update. No big issues.

Yes, was a good news, but my old 1240U is not recognized by Preview.
Preview is supposed to drive a lot of scans directly, including Canon lide series.
But anyway, Canoscan runs, so...

  • What has been your experience upgrading from Mac OS X 10.6.0 to 10.7 or 10.8?  I read real horror stories about Maverick.

What has been your experience upgrading from Mac OS X 10.6.8 ti 10.7 or 10.8?

my story was indeed a horror story
Mavericks is not an upgrade of previous OSes, but rather a port of iOS
If you want your computer to function like an iPad, go for it.
Snow Leopard on the other hand is a full-featured and stable OS - the best of them in my opinion.
Mavericks makes it easier to port Pages and Numbers documents back and forth between your computer and your iPad - but this portability comes at the price of many, many lost features in both programs.  Over 100 lost features in Pages.  Don't know how many for Numbers, but because of lost functionality you risk losing data (if you used Footers and Headers, Page View, etc.).
It is possible to use the older version of iWork under Mavericks, but it is a real pain as Mavericks keeps trying to default you to the newer versions.  Even accidentally opening with the newer version and not saving changes can cause the file identifier to be altered making it no longer open under the older version (I did find a way to force open)  Deleting the newer versions from your system results in Mavericks nagging you on a daily basis to reinstall them.  There is no option to say No, only the option to postpone for one day.
the OS itself is much less customizable, I found it much harder to use with older eyesight because I couldn't highlight my scroll bars, or change the colour of certain files in a list, etc.  Anywhere I went to Preferences I was struck by how few of them there were - less than half as many as Snow Leopard, in some cases less than 25%.  Again, I had used those missing Preferences.
Mavericks also takes away many of the abilities of iTunes to sync with your iPad or iPhone and forces you to use iCloud to do much of the synching.  If you don't want to use iCloud, or if you have confidentiality issues that prevent you from using it - you are out of luck.
In the end I found Mavericks unusable.  The process of reverting back to Snow Leopard required 5 hours with 2 different geniuses at the Apple Store, 2 deep wipes of my computer and fresh install of Snow Leopard.    And some loss of settings and data.
If you choose to go for it, then make a bootable backup first.  Some sources suggest making 2 backups.
There are people who are happy with Mavericks, but I am not one of them.
Since I had my misadventure they have made some improvements to Mavericks, but not nearly enough of them to tempt me back.  For example, you cannot set your old Pages and Numbers documents to 'always open' with the older version of the software ... or rather you can set them to, but Mavericks will immediately revert it back to the new version.

  • Recounting My Successful Experience Upgrading My Solid State Hard Drive

I just successfully upgraded my solid state hard drive from
60 gigabytes to 256 ; the machine is a Lenovo T400s - while the upgrade is
still fairly fresh, I thought I’d share my experience – maybe someone else will
benefit – most of what I’m about to relay was provided by Zoltanthegypsy and
GMAC-R60 – I thank them again for their advice - but I will try to add some
additional thoughts based on my experience – for the most part I was able to
use the tools provided by Lenovo – my original hard drive had 3 partitions, S
    (system), C ( windows + my programs & data), & Q ( Lenovo stuff like
backup and restore, the factory copy, etc.) :
Create a “factory state” copy of the machine to
DVD or CD soon after purchase – I say soon after purchase because it appears that
a minimum amount of hard disk space is required – my 60 gig was almost full and
I got a message that there wasn’t enough space – I can still make the copy but
I’ll have to move some things off temporarily – this step isn’t really related
to the upgrade but it is a good idea –  Start/Lenovo ThinkVantage Tools and you’ll see
the option – and as Zoltanthegypsy has pointed out you will most likely not be
able to do this from the new hard drive after the restore operation covered
below – I haven’t proven this out but I do know that my Q space on the new
drive is smaller than before – something was lost and it’s most likely the
factory state – and so keep the old hard drive long enough to make that factory
state copy to DVD or CD.
The next step was a full backup to a Lenovo
external hard drive – it came with one partition - the external that I got from
Lenovo has a small keypad and is password enabled – this fact will come into
play further on – as GMAC-R60 noted a pop-up will appear giving the option to
create rescue media – you want to select this option so that the external will be
    bootable.
When the backup is complete you want to swap hard
drives making sure to first unplug & remove the battery .
There may be other ways to do this next step but
here’s what I did – I powered on the machine and let it go through what
appeared to be a BIOS routine – note that my external was attached to the
laptop but it wasn’t activated by keying in the password – after the BIOS
routine was finished I activated the external by typing in the password and then
did a Control/Alt/Delete – the machine restarted and booted from the external –
with hindsight I probably could have connected & activated the external
before powering on but the instructions that came with the external suggested
something different which didn’t work for me .
I was now able to go into rescue and recovery
and do a complete restore to the new drive – but to my surprise the extra space
that I bought with the new drive ended up all in the Q partition – and Windows
Disk Management didn’t enable me to reallocate the space to C.
And so I purchased Disk Director 11 Home by
Acronis – a $50.00 investment in a tool that I’ll probably never use again but
I’m now able to use an $800 solid state drive rather than trying to recoup some
money via Ebay -– within minutes I was able to reclaim the space and I now have
enough C space to last the lifetime of the laptop – especially since all
pictures go on a stick & my demographic isn’t into video games .
One useful piece of information that I got from
a user on the Acronis forum was that all of the Lenovo tools like rescue and
recovery, etc. are available for download from the Lenovo website – and so if worse
came to worse I could have deleted that Q partition, stretched C using Windows
Disk Management , and then downloaded the Lenovo tools into C.
One thing I’d like to learn to do would be to
perform all the steps outlined above but without using the Lenovo tools – using
Windows 7 tools instead but not having a Windows CD , i.e. how do you boot

    It went something like this:
    (On the stock drive)
Plugged in a blank USB HDD, and a blank USB flash drive.
    - HDD formatted in NTFS, flash drive in FAT16.
    Ran the recovery media creator.
    - Created bootable media on flash drive, and put the recovery image on the HDD.
Once done, shutdown, removed the battery, swapped the drive for a 500GB Scorpio Black (freshly NTFS quick-formatted). USB HDD and flash drive were still attached.
Booted, and used F12 to select the flash drive for booting.
It booted into the Windows Recovery Environment and I chose the Lenovo restore factory image option at the bottom of the list.
From there on out, I just clicked through the wizard, and it restored.
Upon finishing, I unplugged all of the external media, and had it restart. It then booted into OOBE as expected.

  • Positive experiences upgrading to (Sandforce) SSD?

I plan on upgrading my Macbook 5.1 (mid-2009 Core 2 Duo 2.13 with 2GB of RAM) with some extra RAM and an SSD. One of the drives I'm looking at is the 180GB Intel 330. However, after googling the drive it seems like everyone is experiencing sudden freezes (the dreaded beach ball of death). At first I thought that this problem was related to Sandforce-based drives only, but after doing some more reading it looks like drives based on other controllers (Samsung, Crucial) are experiencing the same problems.
I realise that user experiences published on forums tend to be rather negative in stead of positive. So I guess that that's why I'm starting this thread to find out if there are users out there with a similar setup that can reduce my hesitancy to upgrade by sharing their experiences.
    Anyone?

Visit OWC for SSDs. If they sell them, then they work in Macs.
I have used a mix of OWC branded SSDs and OCZ Vertex 3 models in several Macs without any problems.

  • Horrible experience upgrading AMD Radeon drivers

    I have a 1-month old HP p7-1418 running Win8.
IE10 has never worked well on this system. (I don't use IE as my browser but am required to test things in IE for work.) For example, some pages only load as blank pages, like wordpress.org. No fiddling in IE10 fixes the problem.
In the MS TechNet support forum, it was recommended that I upgrade my GPU drivers. My original drivers were (dated July 4, 2012):
    AMD Radeon HD 7450
AMD Radeon HD 7450D + 7450 Dual Graphics
I made the HUGE mistake of running Windows Update to update the drivers. (I thought I was doing the right thing!) WU tried to install drivers dated Sept 19, 2012 and the result was that I had no display.
I could not roll back the drivers (button greyed out) and system restore also did not roll them back.
My next mistake was downloading drivers from the AMD site. (Again, I thought I was doing the right thing!):
    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonaiw_vista64.aspx
The install failed with the error, "failed to load detection engine." (I manually removed drivers and AMD/ATI software beforehand, and with the software uninstall I was also greeted by that same error.)
I managed to manually remove the Sept drivers and restore the drivers from July. However, the driver names are now slightly different:
    AMD Radeon HD 7540
    AMD Radeon HD 7540D
In an AMD forum, it was suggested that this is a "uncommon and strange config" and that I should "expect trouble again." Indeed a Google search for "AMD Radeon HD 7450D + 7450 Dual Graphics" generates ONE result. Yikes.
The end result is that I *think* I'm back to where I started, including the remaining issues with IE10.
I noticed that the HP site has a different recommended driver for my system, not the version on the AMD site, but this one: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=cp-113963-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...
    Does that seem correct?
I'm extremely uneasy about upgrading the AMD drivers since it cost me 7 hours of work yesterday to get my display back after that fiasco.
Any ideas about whether or not a driver update would actually fix the IE10 problems on this computer? Any reassurances from HP that running this driver update would actually work and not bork my system again? Do I have more headaches to look forward to thanks to this "uncommon and strange config"?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi:
My understanding is that the video card in your model is specifically made for HP, and only the HP drivers from your PC's support and driver page will work on that card.
If HP provides no updates there, you are unfortunately stuck with the status quo.
Others have had this problem on other consumer and business models with that card.
Currently, there is a graphics card update on your PC's support and driver page dated January 3, 2013.
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=cp-113963-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en...=
That would be the only driver you can try.  Whether or not it fixes the issue you are experiencing, I cannot say.
The notes state it fixes a blue screen error.

  • My experience with memory upgrades (NB305 & NB505)

I just wanted to share my experience upgrading my NB305 and NB505 Toshiba netbooks from 1GB to 2GB RAM.  I ordered the memory from Crucial Technology on 1/1/12 and received it today (1/6/12).  The memory module for the NB505 (DDR3) cost $15, and for the NB305 cost $25, with free shipping.
I'm not a techie by any means, but swapping out memory is pretty straightforward.  There's only one screw holding on the cover for memory access on the NB305.  For the NB505, two screws.  Loosen the screws and gently pry the covers up.  A little resistance is normal because there are small tabs also holding the covers in place.  The memory modules are held by small clips that can be moved with your fingernail, and the memory come out easily.  The new memory is also easily inserted.  It's not totally idiot-proof (is anything?), but it's pretty close.
After putting memory access covers back on, I booted up both machines.  The only glitch I had was that I had not powered down the NB505 altogether but had it in hibernation state, so it could not restore and just had a blank screen.  All I had to do was to hold down the power button until all lights went off, and then I was able to power up normally.  Both the NB305 and the NB505 powered up without any more problems.
I don't have any benchmarks or anything like that, but I noticed the difference in performance on both machines right away.  Both netbooks are running Windows 7 Starter edition, so those users who are warning that you cannot upgrade memory with Windows 7 Starter edition are totally wrong.  Performance is a lot snappier, and I wish that I had upgraded the NB305 two years ago when I first bought it.  This little upgrade is well worth the money.
MY ONLY WARNING:  NB505 users should make sure they get the right kind of memory.  Some memory is DDR2, and some memory is DDR3.  Look on the serial number label on the back of your computer, and if there is a D3 in the upper right hand corner, you need to get the DDR3 memory.  Otherwise, get the DDR2 memory.

gablueskies thank you for the info , i think even i need to upgrade my netbook.
I own a NB505-N508BL , it doesnt have a D3 written on its corner of the serial label, it has XF , i assume i should buy the DDR2 memory for the upgrade right ?

  • Upgrade to BI 7.0 with non-ALPHA converted values in 0MATERIAL

We are upgrading from BW 3.1C to NW2004s / BI 7.0.
While performing our pre-upgrade checks using RSRV, we found 93,000 of 1.7 million material records which have not been ALPHA converted. This may be a legacy from an earlier 2.0 to 3.1C upgrade where the ALPHA conversion was skipped because the ALPHA conversion would a take "too long"
Our client currently has 500InfoProviders and 500 Aggregates in a 20 terabyte database.
All of SAP's documention for BW upgrades insists upon ALPHA conversion prior to upgrade.
    1. Has anyone experience upgrading without ALPHA conversion? I would like to have a chat with you.
    2.  Does anyone  have an easy techinque for detminining if these values are used in InfoProviders? These values are invisible through "Maintain Master Data" This would helps us determine if ignoring or deleting the values is a viable option.
    Thank you for your help,
    John Hawk

    Hi,
As per the standared upgarde guide ALPHA convertion check is not necessary for Upgrade from BW 3.1 to BI7.0.
Note 447341 specifies as shown bellow:
Upgrade from BW >= 3.0B to BW >= 3.1 Content.
In this case, the consistency of the data should be already be ensured by a previous upgrade. As a precaution, a check is carried out in the upgrade PREPARE.
Do not, therefore, implement the solution described under Section 2.1 in this case. In particular, it is not necessary to export a transport created from the BOM RSMD_ALPHA and would in any case result in errors (unknown syntax "R3TR" "TABL" "RSMDCONTCONVEXIT" or "Object R3TR TABL RSMDCONTCONVEXIT requires a catalog entry") because some of the objects no longer exist.
Check weather the error messages that you get is of type(R3TR" "TABL" "RSMDCONTCONVEXIT" or "Object R3TR TABL RSMDCONTCONVEXIT ). then you can ignore thouse error messages.
    Refer to 447341.
    Regards,
    Srinivas.

  • DVD-R Upgrade

Hi folks I have a G3 B&W (Rev. A) and I have a question about upgrading my drive. First in the world of dvds I have found that a dvd-r drive just doesn't cut it anymore. Does anyone out there have experience upgrading to a dvd/cd RW drive in the B&W? I know that apple had a superdrive that would fit the job but is there any other brand drives that are reliable with OS9? The reason being its hard to find an affordable drive to do the job, everyone wants the price they were new in 2001 for a superdrive. And one more thing, I think the cap on HD size is 250 GB for this machine can anyone confirm?
    Message was edited by: hiteckredneck129

In the past, I would have suggested buying a Pioneer DVD±RW drive, as Pioneer drives have proven to be the most compatible with Macs. I have a couple of them installed in a pair of my B&W G3s and they have functioned without any problems. In the past year, I have to qualify that recommendation to exclude a Pioneer DVD±RW drive featuring LabelFlash technology, because they are re-branded Asus drives. I returned (2) retail-boxed Pioneer burners, after discovering that the drives were outsourced. If you read the feedback posted about these burners here, the consensus of opinion is that the "Pioneer" quality has gone down the drain. The individuals buying these lesser-quality "Pioneer" drives don't realize that they're Pioneer in name only. This is the same Pioneer drive that the Mac-centric retailer "Other World Computing" also sells. It could be that the days of Pioneer-manufactured optical drives are gone, except for the higher-end Blu-ray drives. If you can find an old/new stock Pioneer DVD±RW drive without LabelFlash from a retailer, I'd say buy it in a heartbeat. Others have had good luck with NEC, while I've had good luck with a few Toshiba DVD-ROM/CD-RW drives that I bought a few years back, one of which is in a B&W G3. Today, many manufacturers have dropped combo-drives from their product line, because the DVD burners have dropped so much in price. You can always check eBay for a used burner, but longevity could be hit or miss.

  • Oralce 9i AS upgrade to Oracle 10g AS

We want to upgrade our oracle 9i AS to Oracle 10g AS, We want to know the steps to upgrade. Can any one share his / her experience.
Do we need to install the oracle 10g AS and have to deploy the forms and reports again, or we can upgrade existing oracle 9i AS to 10g AS.
    regards

In my personal experiences upgrading usually means headache. A form that runs like a charm on 9i R2 doesn't always run that nicely on 10g. Also upgrading components to a new major release is not that simple of a process. You should have your development department check everything thoroughly.
Which components are you using? If it is just forms & reports, I would do a clean install and start compiling forms again. Users from OID (if used) can be migrated using ldif files (ldapsearch is your friend). If you do not use OID / SSO, you might consider moving to the forms&reports edition (which doesn't use an infrastructure).
If you are using portal, I have no clue (never did an upgrade to a new major release for portal).

  • Upgrading CF 5.0 to MX 7 on Linux

    Hi all,
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience upgrading
CF 5.0 to MX 7 on a Linux server. I am thinking about upgrading a
Linux server running CF 5.0 and Red Hat 7.2 to run MX 7. There are
a couple hundred websites on this server and was wondering if there
are any issues going from such an old version to a newer version of
    CF.
Any advice on what to expect or stories about previous
experiences with this type of upgrade would be greatly
    appreciated.

    Hi,
If you are upgrading  to  SRM 7.0 then is SAP recommends to use only SRDM MDM .
Requisite Catalog compatiblity with SRM 7.0 is limited.Browser issue will be there.
    check this link
Bugseye catalog does not return a shopping cart occasionally
In SRM 7.0 , SAP Enterprise portal is  mandatory  it works on JAVA pack and the SRM UI is webdynpro.
Better raise an OSS message with SAP and ask them whether they will support  SRM 7.0 with Requisite Catalog.
After Requiste catalog --SAP CCM version is released and now SRM  MDM is there from SRM 7.0 onwards.

  • Tip for upgrading from MBP to iMac with Leopard & Parallels Boot Camp

Here are some pointers based on my recent experience upgrading from a MacBook Pro to an iMac, under Leopard and with Parallels using a Boot Camp partition for Windows.
First, you do not need to create a Windows partition on your new computer. You will use Boot Camp Assistant to do that - it can dynamically resize your existing Mac OS X partition without destroying it. (I initially used Disk Utility to create a Windows partition but it wasn't recognised properly by Parallels and also the Mac wouldn't boot from it).
A great way to simplify getting your old installation across is to make a Time Machine backup onto an external drive. Yes, you could also use start up your old Mac in Target mode (hold down T key when you start it), then start the new Mac and copy your settings over. But in my case, the new iMac (a refurb) came with Tiger installed on it while my old Mac had already been upgraded to Leopard.
I started the new Mac using a Leopard install CD (holding down the C key while starting). Then I chose to restore from a Time Machine backup instead of installing from CD, and soon had a functioning Leopard installation on the new Mac. Well, almost.
Next I used Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition on the new drive. The old Mac's partition was only 10 GB in size, but I made the new one 31.9 GB in size (so I could stay under the Windows limit of 32 GB for FAT partitions). I then quit without installing Windows.
On the old Mac, I used an external drive formatted as FAT and used Disk Utility to 'restore' my Windows partition to the external drive. Next I plugged that drive into the new Mac, and restored the external Windows partition to the new Mac's Windows partition. So far, so good. However, Parallels would not start this installation of Windows, and the new Mac would not boot into it (holding down the Option key at start-up did not show me a Windows drive).
I tried doing a repair of the Windows installation using a Windows install disk but that did not work. What did work was the following: I booted from the Window install CD, then started a new installation. I asked Windows to format the Windows partition on the new Mac, then powered off the new Mac as soon as Windows started copying files. Next, I rebooted the new Mac into Mac OS X, started Disk Utility, and again did a restore of the Windows partition on the external drive to the Windows partition on the new Mac.
The final step was to reboot the new Mac into Windows directly so that I could load drivers from the Leopard install CD. [I haven't done that yet, so I'm not sure it's necessary].
    Hope this helps!

Sounds solid to me. If the Glyph was connected on a firewire port that is. This would free up the bandwith that way but actually it is hardly an issue with the Duet considering the limited inputs. But using the Glyph as a backup for your projects is good wise idea anyway.

  • Error -19 upgrading to 1.1.4 (including resolution)

Upgrading an iPod Touch is always an adventure. My first attempt resulted in an unknown -19 error code. Repeated attempts to install resulted in the same error.
I resolved the problem by a complete restart of my PC, then unplugging all USB devices, then plugging the iPT into a USB port directly from the motherboard (at the rear of the PC). Once iTunes fired up I tried the 1.1.4 install again with -- breathing a sigh of relief -- successful results.
With the imminent release of the SDK I hope future iPT apps will not require all fingers and toes crossed in order to install them!

I just had a very frightening experience upgrading my touch to 1.1.4. After the update it told me my ipod was damaged and it needed to be restored. I use my PC to update the ipod. After 4 or so tries it was doing the same thing and I was getting nowhere.
I had to plug it in to my mac in order to resurrect it. It also only worked on the second try on the mac. Mac's seem to have a strange ability to resurrect dead iPods that PC's don't - this also happened on my nano.
After that the January software update was gone. I tried to sync with the PC again, and it went back in to the restore screen again.
Back to the Mac, restore again, then back to the PC and it synced. But still no January software update. Eventually it recognized my ipod and restored it from a backup. This took about 4 hours of my time.
Apple, you are letting your quality slip.

  • 700Mhz|G3| Should I Upgrade

    Gang,
I am thinking about upgrading my wife's iBook. Can anyone tell me their experience upgrading a 700Mhz G3 from 10.2 to 10.3.
Any problems I should be aware of?
    Did it really improve anything?
    TIA,
    James

What is the size of the hard drive and how much space remains available on it?
Personally, my eMac came with 10.2.4, and I couldn't bear to use it. I keep it in OS 9.
When I started helping out here, my 500 MHz iBook was in OS 9. Most people here were running OS X, so I tried the 500's 10.0.4 and found it really awful. I upgraded it to 10.1.5, but saw that it was barely workable. I did not think the little 9.36 hard drive on the 500 MHz was up to Panther, so I bought an 800 MHz iBook on eBay that had already been upgraded to Panther. The original system CD's and the full version Panther CD's were included in the purchase (or I wouldn't have bid on it). Now, Panther is a version of OS X that I really do find usable. However, each new version of the OS seems to take more and more memory and more and more hard drive space. Panther (and Tiger) take around 5 GB of free hard drive space (AFTER installation) to run smoothly. If your wife's hard drive is on its way to being full, an upgrade of the OS may not be wise. This would be the major stumbling block to an OS upgrade, I believe.
How much RAM does she have installed? If the RAM isn't maxed out at 640 MB and if she's used to Jaguar, I'd recommend upgrading the RAM with a 512 MB module over the Panther upgrade. You'll see a speed bump, there.
Maybe you should consider this, too. You are talking about upgrading a computer that is 4 years old (or close to it). New iBooks are a really good buy right now, in my opinion. $999 gets you an iBook with a Combo drive, 40 GB hard drive, 512 MB of RAM (and some online vendors are doubling it for an installation fee), double the processor speed (by the time you facotr in the G4 over the G3), Tiger, built-in AirPort Extreme, Bluetooth, and a one-year warranty with the option to buy AppleCare (not to mention all the new applications that come with it). If you're thinking about upgrading, that may be the best way to go. You can pay $100 for a RAM module, $100 for Panther, and you're a fifth of the way to a new iBook.
If you can afford it, I believe that's the way to go. It would be a shame to put money into an older iBook and then have something major go wrong with it. Just my two cents.

  • Problems upgrading to CS2

    Hello,
I own an old version of photoshop (Photoshop 3.0) and I am trying to upgrade to CS2, but of course I cannot do that with the current CS2 installer. I tried calling customer service, but they appear to be closed for the weekend. Does anybody have any experience upgrading from a very old version, or know anything about how it works? Thanks for your time!

I would post this on the "Adobe Photoshop" forum. You are on the "Adobe Photoshop SDK" forum. (Developers with API questions)
Or you could try technical support. Does your system meet the minimum requirements for CS2?
