My hard drive takes to much space

Hello,
I have a 250g SSD installed in my Mac, and of that is 134gb of other files, I don't know where the come from and what they are how can I find this out. I know that a part of this is my OS, but that is 40gb or so.

Thanks for your help. I did just that and was able to get a much better view with OmniDiskSweeper. I was shocked to find that my MobileSync files were 125 GB of about 270 being used! Guess I shouldn't be surprised with 4 iPhones and 4 iPads syncing to the same iMac at one time or another -- just kind of surprised Apple/iTunes doesn't make it any clearer that this can turn into a big problem if you don't initially create the appropriate backup settings for your devices. TM backup takes too much space

I restored the boot disk (Macintosh HD) from TM's last backup.
The first new backup takes too much space on your external drive!
Is it true?

I must have three times to recover the system partition.
I'm not sure that the drive for 1 year of operation is out of order. During the day the computer works fine, but every morning after wake up,
when disc is cold ,
and after 2 - 3 minutes go to freezing all apps. It seems that does not see the HDD.
After a forced shutdown and restart the system sometimes can boot normally and without error in the file system, but often does not load.
After several attempts to boot the system it is still loaded, but disk utility shows :

Yes. Keep in mind that you need to back up all data, including the data on an external drive. So if you're going to use the external drive to store original data, as opposed to backups, then you really need another one to back up the first one. You also need to back up the data on your internal drive, of course. This isn't optional. You must do it, or you'll lose everything sooner or later. All disk drives fail eventually, often with no warning.

All external hard drives work with Macs. Some might come pre-formatted for use with Macs, but it only takes a few minutes to do that yourself.

The fastest method is straight copy and paste..
Plug a suitable hard disk into your computer.. format it Mac OS extended journaled (if not already).
Select the folders/files you want to move.. copy and paste them to the external drive..
Double check that the files are copied because the next step will delete the files forever.. there is no trash on the TC.
Delete the files on the TC.
You can also do a full archive of the TC disk to a USB plugged into it by USB.. it must be formatted Mac OS Extended Journaled. It must be big enough to hold all data on the TC disk.. best idea is to buy the same size or bigger.. so if you use 2TB TC buy a 2TB or bigger external drive.
In airport utility select archive.
That will copy everything on the TC disk to the USB drive.. you could then Erase the disk of the TC.. this is super fast if you choose quick erase.. just a few minutes. But the archive will take many hours.. say for 2TB about 12-24hours.. and you cannot use the disk in the TC during that time.

You cannot. From a legal standpoint, the license agreement for OS X mandates that you run OS X only on Apple hardware. HP is not (yet) owned by Apple.
From a technical standpoint, your HP laptop doesn't use EFI, but rather an early predecessor called a BIOS. Apple is the only vendor of consumer computer hardware that uses EFI; other vendors reserve EFI for use in servers.
Secondly, Apple's operating systems support a rather limited number of configurations of video hardware and mainboard chipsets directly since they need only support those systems that they manufacture. You cannot use Windows software or drivers on OS X, so prior to installation, you would need to write your own hardware drivers for your laptop, create an OS X drive image on a Mac, and then modify that image with your drivers before putting it in the HP.
It will be simpler (and legal), to simply purchase a used Mac. Apple's online store has refurbished MacBook Airs starting at $850 and Mac Minis for $700. If you go to e-bay or craigslist, you'll find used Macs for considerably less.

Yes.
Copy your music iTunes Library folder to the external drive and change the Advanced settings in iTunes to point to this new location.
Once you're happy with these changes you can delete the same Library from your User account to free up space on the internal drive.

There is no benefit to the multi-media feature on the first drive you mentioned. If you are going to look at differences between certain drives, I'd look at the differences in reliability first.

Our iTunes guru Terence Devlin advises the following:
1. Quit iTunes
2. Drag the iTunes folder from your internal hd - located in ~/Music folder - to your external hd. DO NOT delete the original one from your internal hd... yet!
3. When the transfer is complete, press and hold the Option(alt) key and fire up iTunes.
4. A "Choose iTunes Library" window will come up. Click on the "Choose Library" button.
5. Navigate to where the iTunes folder is located in the external hd.
6. Within the iTunes folder, select the iTunes Library file and click Choose...
That's it. iTunes will now display all your playlists, songs, movies, podcasts etc. At this point, should you wish, you can delete the iTunes folder from the internal hd to free up space.

It's an Intel iMac the last G5s were built in 2005.
How to identify iMac models
1. Go to: Apple > System Preferences > Startup Disk and check to besure the that OS X 10.6 on the Macintosh HD is set as the Startup Disk.
2. Start up from you Snow Leopard Upgrade DVD, navagate to Utilities > Disk Utility and Repair the Macintosh HD.
