My I-Tunes songs are gone......disappeared

I have downloaded many songs and podcasts to my ipod. I have purchased from the I Tunes store. The other day I went to I-Tunes to synch my ipod and I have no songs, no albums nothing....My I-Tunes file is Blank............there must be an easy answer....right? HELP

Perchance you may still have the music files on your PC -- but not seen in iTunes or the PC.
Do a thorough search of your PC for your Music Files using the tips below:
First - Make sure that you enable your Windows Explorer to view 'Hidden' files:
1) Open Windows Explorer
2) Select 'My Computer'
3) On the main Windows Explorer menu: Tools=>Folder Options=>'View' tab
4) In 'Advanced Setting' --> Files and Folders --> Hidden files and folders:
4a) Select 'Show hidden files and folders’
5) Click 'Apply to All Folders'
6) Click 'OK'
Then check using Windows Explorer in 'My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music\...' for folders containing your music (or wherever you keep your music folders).
Also check in your Recycle Bin to see if you accidentally deleted it. If so, ‘Restore’ it back to it’s original spot.
Then try running a search using Windows Explorer (or similar) for files with the extensions of: m4a, m4p, MP3, OR with the partial names of the songs you are missing.
Do all the above before you decide that your music files have been completely erased from your hard drive.
IF you can locate the music files/folders, we can get iTunes to recognize it. Try one of these:
If you have a backup iTunes database file available....
1a. --- Close iTunes. If you have a backup (or previous version) of the ‘iTunes Library.itl’ database file, then place a copy of that file in the ‘...\My Music\iTunes’ folder (or wherever the current, incomplete file resides).
1b. --- Open iTunes
If you have a full version of the iTunes Music Library.xml file available....
2a. --- Within iTunes: File=>Import and browse to the location of the XML file
2b. --- Select the file and allow iTunes to Import the music information
If no backup ITL or XML files exists….
3a. --- In iTunes choose: Edit=>Preferences=>Advanced tab. Select 'Change' and browse to the music folder in your PC drive (if it isn’t already). Click OK to save that setting.
Then....
3b. --- In iTunes choose: File=>’Add Folder to Library’ & browse to the music folder in your PC drive. Click OK.
Without the ITL file, re-‘Adding’ the music files to the Library will lose you the Ratings, Play Counts, Date Added and Last Played attributes, as well as your Playlists. No real way to recover them if you haven’t made prior backups. Something to consider for the future.
IF your music files are truly gone, and you have some or all of your music files on your iPod, these links will give you several methods of recovering whatever songs remain on your iPod; some free, some third-party software, some more comprehensive for restoring Playlists, Ratings, Play Counts, etc. Read them and their associated links before deciding on a strategy that works for you. There are many various third-party software programs that will offer a more robust process, or an easier GUI. Do a Google search for them if the links below leave you wanting.
Don King Resurrected: Deleted files from hard drive (free user steps – music recovery only)
MacMuse: Computer Crashed (free user steps – music recovery only)
Copying music from iPod to computer (a primer on various methods and software)
Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC (resource for 3rd party software)
iPodRip Software (Free trial: Mac & Windows)
PodUtil Software (Mac & Windows)
YamiPod Software (Free: Mac & Windows)
PodPlus Software (Windows)
TuneJack Software (Windows)
Senuti (Mac OS X v10.3 or higher Recovery Utility)
XPlay (Windows software For Music Recovery &/or Cross-Platform Functionality)
XPlay Photo Browser (For recovering Photos)
Extremely Simple & Free Method: (just to recover the song files – may not work on a Mac)
1 - Open iTunes
2 - Edit=>Preferences=>’Advanced/General’ tab
2a --- Select ‘Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library’: checked
2b --- Select ‘Keep iTunes Music folder organized’: checked
2c --- Click OK to store changes
3 - Attach your iPod to the PC and hold down the ‘Shift+Ctrl’ keys until the iPod is fully recognized (this will defeat the auto-sync process)
4 - If you get a dialog box to link the Library, decline this option
5 - Within iTunes: Edit=>Preferences=>’iPod’ tab: switch iPod to ‘Manually manage songs & playlists’ – click ‘OK’
6 – Eject iPod
7 – Close iTunes, then reopen iTunes and attach the iPod (it’s in manual sync now)
8 – File=>Add Folder
9 - Browse to and open ‘My Computer’ (click on the ‘+’) and select the iPod (or the lower ‘\iPod_Control’ sub-folder)
10 - Click OK
The music files should start to transfer back into iTunes with its correct information
This will take some time depending on your PC’s speed and the amount of songs on the iPod
No Playlists, or Ratings, Last Played, & Play Count attributes will be transferred from the iPod to iTunes using this method.
If you have problems with seeing the iPod within 'My Computer', try again switching your update method to 'manual', detach the iPod, then reconnect the iPod to the PC.
AFTER recovering your Library, strongly consider developing a thorough backup strategy for just this type of situation.
You need at least two full sets of your music, not including what is on the iPod:
a) One full set on the PC within iTunes (on internal HD or ExHD)
b) One full set on an separate external backup medium (CD/DVD/ExHD/other)
c) One (full or partial) set on the iPod
Music files on just the iPod and only one other medium is not considered having any backup.
If you cannot store your complete music files on the computer’s internal HD, then create and maintain at least two external sets (any multiple combinations of ExHDs, DVDs, CDs).
Backup both the music files and the Library database file (iTunes Library.itl). What are the iTunes Library files?
Here is a post on developing a thorough backup strategy:

  • Downloaded iTunes 7 and alot of my songs are gone????

I downloaded iTunes 7 and half my songs are gone. Also how do I get iTunes to find the music I have saved on my computer without doing it one by one??? Please help as I am really frustrated and wanting to return my ipod =(

Edit > Preferences > Store check Music under Automatic Downloads.
Open the iTunes Store from left hand column, then select Purchasedfrom the column on the right, click the Not In My Library button and select the tunes you want to download again.
That said, you seem to be under a misapprehension as to how iTunes works, or at least how it has worked in the past. It has, until recently, been up to you take care of your purchases once they have been downloaded. You had a one-time download which you were reminded to back up. With the recent change to this policy you can at least download your store purchases again, but having a personal backup of your iTunes store purchases, stuff purchased elsewhere and files ripped from your CDs will still be preferable to gathering all the stuff together again in the event of a disaster.
For a backup strategy see this User Tip.

  • TS1474 i updated my ipod touch and now all of my songs are gone. How do i get them back?

i just updated my ipod and now all of my songs are gone. how do i get them back?

You can get iTunes purchases back by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
For other items you need to get them from whee yuo got them the first time.
The iPod backup that iTunes makes does not include synced mediai like apps and music. If those ore not in the iTunes library on the computer on which you performed the update they are lost.

  • All songs are gone.  Can I get them back?

Hey everyone! O.K. My step-daughter was here for the summer, She got a nano for her b-day and I put all of my songs on her iPod nano. Then she went back to her Mom's and she pluged it into her friends computer(which had iTunes but no songs). A ballon poped up that asked if she wanted to update to new library and she ticked yes. So now, of course, all of her songs are gone. Does anyone know if we can get them back without using my computer(She's 4 hours away)? Please Help!

If those songs originally on the iPod were overwritten with new songs, it's probably a lost cause.

  • All of my songs are GONE after i updated my Nano to 1.2!!!!

    Hey renie1515,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
When you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. This article describes how to manage these associations.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4627
Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days.
Note: Removing a device from your Apple ID does not override the 90-day timer. You must wait 90 days from the day the device was first associated with your Apple ID before it can be associated with another Apple ID.
    Have a nice day,
    Mario

  • All my Garage Band songs are gone in the app after I uploaded to iCloud.

All my Garage Band songs are gone in the app after I uploaded to iCloud. Where can I retrieve the songs? iCloud doesn't show any Garage Band folder backup. Help please!!!

Is your GarageBand version up to date? If not, upgrade to the latest version. also, you coud try to reset GarageBand to the factory settings. That brought my iCloud projects back.
Open the "Settings" app on your iPad and scroll down to the applications. Open the GarageBand settings and set "Reset GarageBand" to on.
BTW: If there are network problems it sometimes may take a very long time, before the song is downloaded from the cloud again. That is why I never upload the original to iCloud - I duplicate the song and share only a copy to iCloud. Once I am sure the upload has been successful and the cloud version is working I delete the original.

  • All my songs are gone!! Help please.

So I'm on vacation kind of for a month and I brought my iPod with me and the CD that has the iTunes software thing on it so I couldd install it on the computer here so I could download more songs or whatever. But after I installed iTunes, my iPod was totally refeshed and all my songs are gone. I'm pretty sure I could get my songs back from my own computer at home, but I wont be back for more than a month. Is there any way I can get my old playlist back without having to buy them all again?

If you linked your Shuffle to an iTunes with only a few or completely different songs it will have erased your original iPod song list. You will need to connect to your original PC to get them back. iPod Shuffle: FAQ

  • ITunes songs are gone/uploading question

Today I turned on my computer and all of a sudden all of the songs on iTunes are gone...
my question is, if I connect my iPod to the computer will all my songs disappear?and can I upload new music on my iPod without any songs being erased from my iPod?
    thanks to whoever can help

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
If iPod is set to automatically update, then a message like this will appear...
If you click Yes, all of your songs will be deleted off of the iPod. If you click No, they will not.
You can use something like YamiPod (as previously mentioned) to get the music off of your iPod.
But before you do any of that, make sure all of your music isn't still on your computer. Go to My Documents-->My Music-->iTunes-->iTunes Music. Do you see music files/artist folders with music in them there?
Try searching your computer for a song file. Did you find any?

  • My computer crashed, my songs are gone, what can i do?

My computer crashed and all of the songs that i got with the free bottlecaps off of pepsi's promotion are gone. Is there any way that i can get them back? It says i purchased them in the purchase history. (not actually purchased, but got). Is there any way at all to contact them, or where I can go to get them back?
      Windows XP

You seem to have five choices:
1 - Recover them from your backup files
2 - Recover them from your iPod
3 - Ask the iTMS for a second download of those 'free' songs (doubtful)
4 - Pay for someone to recover the files from your crashed HD (expensive)
5 - Purchase the iTMS songs
I assume you do not have any backups. Do you have an iPod with the songs on them? If you do, post back and recovery instructions can be provided.
If not, then a well constructed email plea to the iTMS explaining your situation and promising that you have learned the value of backups and will do so from now on, may get you a second chance at a download.
Barring any of the first four above, it may be option '5'. Or '6': Just give up on the songs....
