My iCloud is defaulting to an old Hotmail address that I no longer use, my apple ID is currently functioning fine with a gmail account. I'm not able to change my iCloud email on my phone or on desktop... Any advice?

You would have to change your Apple ID back to your old hotmail address (https://appleid.apple.com ) in order to turn off "Find My iPhone" and change the iCloud ID. After you changed it back and verified your old hotmail address you should be able turn off "Find My iPhone" and to temporarily delete your iCloud account from your devices. After that you can change your Apple ID back to your gmail address again. After it is verfied, you could add back your iCloud account by using your gmail address.

How to reset your Apple ID security questions.
Go to appleid.apple.com, click on the blue button that says 'Manage Your Apple ID'.

This post was about having updated the primary email address on an iTunes account via a computer - if you do that you might need to log out of the account on an iPad by tapping on the id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in with the updated version of the account for that email address change to be recognised on your iPad. If you don't log out and back in then an iPad (or iPhone or iPod Touch) might continue to show the old version of the iTunes account id.

You will need to visit appleid.apple.com to manage your Apple ID. From there, you can log in with your existing credentials and then change your registered email addresses.
This is also where you can update your physical address, phone number, security questions, etc.

If you are signed into your current iCloud ID you shouldn't be prompted for the old ID unless there is another service still signed into it. Check the ID in iMessage (Settings>Messages>Send & Receive), FaceTime (Settings>FaceTime), Game Center (Settings>Game Center), the iTunes store (Settings>iTunes & App Store), etc. to make sure you aren't still signed in with the old ID. If you are, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with the new ID.

When I go to ICal it asks for the username and password which I no longer have. The calendar is still on my phone (even though the email account is on my phone but doesn't work) Is there a way to copy my calendar to a different email address on my iphone? I have now set the default email account for the calendar to a current email address but I still can't figure out how to merge my iphone calendars, copy the iphone calendar to iCal, or save my iphone calendar to my mac. Also, I read in ITunes to check "sync to ICal" but my ITunes under my iphone and info just says "Sync Calendars" which doesn't transfer it to iCal when I sync my phone.
