The answer to that is because your phone and your Mac are signed into different accounts. Sign the phone in using the same credentials as the Mac.

As of this evening, I cannot reach PhotoStream from iPhoto or Aperture on either of my Macs, laptop or desktop. I get a message popup telling me to review my settings, which I have and they're fine. However, my iPad and iPhone can still see PhotoStream and its images. Any ideas? Thanks.
Thanks randers4, I followed your link. It's good to know there is a problem at their end!
But unfortunately though it now says on the systemstatus report that they've fixed it, I still can't see PhotoStream from my Macs. I've checked all my settings again and restarted, but no joy.
I'll leave it a few more hours and see if it comes back before I raise it with Apple. -

I had iCloud photo libraey turned on on both my iPad and iPhone. As said by the feature, photos and videos were being transferred automatically from each device to each other. I have a 64GB iPad Air 2 and my iPhone 5 only has 16GB of storage so I am lacking much more space on my iPhone than my iPad. I was wondering if there was a way to transfer photos only from my iPhone to my iPad but not from my iPad to my iPhone. Would turning off iCloud Photo library on my iPad do the trick? Thanks hope someone can help me out.
iCloud Photo Library keeps all of your photos in the Cloud which you then can selectively download. So, unless you download the iPad photos, they are not going to be taking up any room on your iPhone:

The guides all say when using the iCloud photos are shared across all devices. Why can't I see my photos from my iPhone on my iPad when it settings on both devices the iCloud for photos is on?
When you enable Photo Stream on your devices, only new photos you take or import to those devices will be automatically added to your Photo Stream. Existing photos won't.

just came home from a trip that i used my iphone 4s to take pictures. when i came home, the photos hadn't gotten onto my ipad. I had photo stream turned off in iCloud so I turned it on. I have connected both iPad and iPhone are connected to wifi. I had turned several things off on my iPhone during this trip because it was an international trip and I didn't want to get any extra charges. I'm not sure what I turned off because I'm not too swift with electronics. I think everything is back to where it should be now but not positive. Photo Stream only syncs photos that are taken after Photo Stream is enabled. If it was off during your trip, those photos will not be in Photo Stream.

Only some of the photos I have taken on my iPhone appear in the photo stream on my iPad even thou they were taken at the same time. Why is this and how can I import the other photos from my iPhone to my iPad?
If older photos are missing it may be because photo stream photos are only held in iCloud for 30 days. After that they are removed from iCloud but will remain (up to 1000 photos) on your device until deleted. Also, only photos taken after enabling photo stream are added to your photo stream, and only when the camera is closed, your device is connected to wifi and you have at least 20% battery life remaining.
To transfer the missing photos you can either create a shared photo stream containing them and invite yourself to it (see http://help.apple.com/icloud/#mmc0cd7e99), import the photos to your computer and sync them to your iPad, or use an app like PhotoSync to transfer them to your iPad over wifi. -

I think you can solve your problems by removing your AppleID email address from BOTH the Messages setting on your iPhone and the iMessages settings on your Mac.
On iPhone:
Settings > Messages > iMessage > Dissabled
Settings > Messages > Send & Receive > touch the "(i)" < touch "Remove This Email"
On Mac:
Open "Messages" application
Click "Messages menu > Preferences
Click "Accounts"
Select your AppleID account
Under the "You can be reached for messages at" settings, uncheck your AppleID email address and your phone number
Then uncheck the "Enable this account" setting
And lastly, ask all of your friends with iPhones to delete all iMessage conversations (blue bubbles) in their entirety.
To test, send a friend a new text using their phone number (not their email address) and watch the color of the bubble. If it's green then you are using SMS. -

You can't use iCloud like that. It isn't a general file storage service; it's designed to sync data across your devices.
Some options are to sync all your music or other media off your device, then sync it back on after you update. Another is to import your photos to your computer (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083), then sync them back to your phone after you update by putting them in a folder, then selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.
