If they haven't already wiped it and started over, and you activated Find my iPhone on your iPad, you might be able to track it. If you did not activate Find my iPhone, you will not be able to track it. Apple will not help you. But, you should immediately go and change your Apple ID password, and any other passwords you use for accounts like Twitter, Facebood, Mail, Apps you make purchases with, like the Starbucks Mobile App, etc.

I have the original box with the serial number on it, but it is no longer protected under the AppleCare plan. Without having already set up the FindMyiPod feature there is nothng you can do to locate the iPod. Apple can't help either. Thereis no way to prevent someone from restoring your iPod to factory defaults/new iPod and using. Report it to the police and change the passwards for all accounts used on the iPod. it.

My laptop was stolen and i have a new one, is there any way to move all the picture folders to the new computer and not lose them? They stole my external harddrive too so unfortunately if i lose these, i have no way to get them back?
What randers4 said. HOWEVER, if the photos were taken with a higher resolution camera than the iPhone what you recover will not be as high a resolution as the originals.

I did not know about iCloud until after my iPad2 was stolen but I know the serial number so is there any hope the thief can be tracked when he or she logs in to the Apple store etc? thanks
iOS devices cannnot be tracked or located with just the serial number. Unless you shared your Apple ID and password with anyone, then your account cannot be accessed at the iTunes Store.

The serial number alone is not useful for Find My iPhone / iPod. It is useful to establish ownership, should you recover the iPod.
You would have had to enable "Find My iPod" in Settings > General. -

No. Even if you found the serial number, it wouldn't help; there is no capability to remotely track or disable an iPod other than the iPod touch.

If any passwords are associated with credit cards, contact the CC company and get your card replaced (with a new number). If any passwords are associated with your bank or any savings institution, contact them also and discuss approprate action with them.
The "Find my..." function is pretty much useless if the device is in the hands of a thief. All that is necessary is for the thief to connect to any computer with iTunes and "Restore as new."
The only real protection you have is with the personal information on the device rather than the physical device itself. Something as small as an iPod should have a strong 8-digit (or longer) password AND be configured for automatic wipe in the event of ten consecutive incorrect password entries. -

Thanks for your response to my question, I see your point and will do that, however, I have another folder that was created before I had a Mac, which has all sorts of lovely titles and labels and some of those pictures I brought over to my ibook when I first started. So there are some duplicates in my iphoto library that I already have backed up in that other folder. I guess I shouldn't really obsess about those. I guess I am just nervous about deleting all my prior iphoto library, but I should have faith that it will all be there in my pictures library. Just trying to clean up the virtual mess.
I'll hold my breath and take the plunge.
