My iphone 4 become carrier locked after 4.3 update i now update to 4.3.5 but still the same, is this possible??

I've recently discovered the same problem with my old 3Gs. Having purchased a 4s I gave my old 3Gs to a friend who's been having trouble with the dreaded 'Incompatible SIM' message.
It was bought unlocked direct from an Apple store when the 3Gs was released, as I was still in-contract on my original iPhone 3 and so I just swapped the sim over and when my contract was up switched to a cheaper sim-only deal.
As far as I can tell it's become locked through one of the subsequent software updates (including developer betas) but I've no way of knowing that for sure.
It's massively frustrating now as Callum has the phone but can't use it as he's not with O2 and they say to unlock it, it will need an O2 sim installed and may take up to 2 weeks to unlock. Well I no longer have a regular O2 SIM as I switched to a micro sim for my 4S and can't be without that so it looks like I'll have to buy a PAYG sim which I'll never use except to get it unlocked which i think is rather unfair as I bought in unlocked in the first place!

The phone was hacked to unlock it. It relocked when you updated. ONLY the carrier it is locked to can authorize unlocking it. If you are not/never were an AT&T customer and you do not have an original store receipt from either an AT&T or Apple store in the U.S. for a no commitment AT&T iPhone, they will NOT unlock it.
Buy a new phone.

This sounds more like a hardware issue.
Have you checked that the dock connector port is not dirty?

Restore iPad to Factory Default; do not restore from backup. It may be the cause of the problem.
Settings>General>Reset>Erase all content and settings

One needs to press the home and sleep / wake keys together for the phone to reset
The other thing I could recommend
Let the battery run out and the phone completely "die"
It may take a day or two with it not being used
Then plug it in to charge and see if there is any change in behavior
If you cannot get this to work - you may need to bring it to an Apple store

You can only purchase apps and other media for the county's sore in which yu are located. You account, included payment method, also must be associated with that country.
Sam applies for updating apps. Note that not all apps are available in all country so y will not be able to update an app if you are in another country and that app is not available in that country or your account is not associated with that country.

In iOS 7.1, the setting has changed locations and is in the same grouping with General, Wallpapers, etc. Also, if you have not set a passcode, you cannot see or set Touch ID. If you restored the phone as new and it still does not provide you the option to set a passcode, and then Touch ID, then it is possible there is a hardware error. Since you purchased the device in Hong Kong, as described before, you can only get a friend/relative to take it to Apple, or you will have to do it yourself. Unfortunately that is what can happen when you need warranty work and have purchased a device outside of the country that you live in.

I am having the same issues--just got off phone with customer service rep--was told that my phone is in recoveyr mode and that I would have to restore it, however, the only things that would be restored would be from my last backup which was in November 2013! I was also told that apple users should not update as soon as the update is available (so why are they sending it to us if they're not sure that there will be any problems!!!). I can't restore now since I am in work--will do it when I go home tonight. In the meantime, I am without a working iphone for the day! This is horrible--I see I'm not the only one who has experienced this!
