  • My iPad mini is stuck in recovery mode; it won't turn off?

All I have is the apple logo and a progress bar that doesn't move. iTunes doesn't recognise it when plugged in, either. I was trying to erase all contents and settings to set it up as a new iPad. I've tried a hard reset, and it comes back up with the same screen. Will letting the power drain be of any use?
    Any help appreciated.

I was rather hoping someone might have some advice on here other than a trip to the Apple Store.....;-)

If you do as I said you will get a pdf file,
You need to read this, it will be easier to work on a Mac when you know how a Mac works.

  • My iphone 5 is stuck on recovery mode and itunes is not detecting my phone when pluged in

My iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode and the phone is not being detected by itunes when the lead is pluged in, this all started when i was trying to update the phone to latest software any ideas????

Placing your device into recovery (DFU-Device Firmware Upgrade) mode:
Follow these steps to place your iOS device into recovery mode. If your iOS device is already in recovery mode, you can proceed immediately to step 6.
       1. Disconnect the USB cable from the iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, but leave the
other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
       2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds
until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
                  * If you cannot turn off the device using the slider, press and hold the
Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When the device turns off,
release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons.
      3. While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the
device. The device should turn on. Note: If you see the battery charge warning,
let the device charge for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has some
charge, and then start with step 2 again.
      4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen.
When this screen appears you can release the Home button:
      5. If necessary, open iTunes. You should see the following "recovery mode" alert:
      6. Use iTunes to restore the device.
If you don't see the "Connect to iTunes" screen, try these steps again. If you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen but the device does not appear in iTunes, see this article and its related links.
    Additional Information:
Note: When using recovery mode, you can only restore the device. All user content on the device will be erased, but if you had previously synced with iTunes on this computer, you can restore from a previous backup. See this article for more information.

  • My iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode after battery change?

my iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode after battery change, I decided to change my faulty iphone 5 battery as i was out of warrenty, I managed to chance the battery with no problems (I Think), when i put the phone back together and tried to power on with the power button, nothing happened.!  i connected to itunes and it powered on, displaying the connect to itunes screen (recovery mode) all was going well, the phone was restoring, the image of the phone restoring and loading up was displayed on the screen, when it finished it restarted but to show the connect to itunes screen again, it is stuck in the recovery loop. i tried the steps with holding the power and home button etc, none worked.! now when i try to restore, it extracts software but then, ' the iphone could not be restored, an unknown error occured (3194)' comes up, any ideas out there???? and Happy Christmas to Everyone ,

    Hello Andyoneill9,
It sounds like you are trying to restore your phone but keep getting an errror message 3194. I want to recommend the troubleshooting steps from this article named:
Error 3194 or "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts4451
    Resolution
Important: If you see one of these messages and need help updating or restoring your iOS device, Install the latest version of iTunes and try to update or restore again. After that, follow these steps if you need more help.
    Check your "hosts" file
After you've updated iTunes to the latest version, you can check the hosts file to be sure your computer can contact the update server. Use the numbered steps below if you’re on a Mac.
If you’re using a Windows computer, follow steps in this Microsoft support article, noting that resetting the hosts file will affect software services that rely on hosts file redirects. If you're using Windows on a business computer, consult your IT department to be sure applications will still work correctly after resetting the hosts file.
In the Finder, choose Applications > Utilities.
    Open Terminal.
Enter this command and then press Return:
    sudo nano /private/etc/hosts
Enter the password you use to sign in to your computer and press Return. You won't see text appear in the Terminal window when you enter the password. Make sure you use a nonblank administrator password.
Terminal will display the hosts file. Navigate using the arrow keys and look for an entry containing “gs.apple.com”.
Add the # symbol and a space ("# ") to the beginning of the gs.apple.com entry.
Press Control-O to save the file. Then, press Enter when prompted for the filename and Control-X to exit the editor.
    Restart your computer.
Try to update or restore your iOS device again.
This is the first troublehsooting step to try, so there are additional things to try if needed you need them.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    Sterling

  • My iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode

My iphone 5 is stuck in recovery mode.
Last week i took my iphone 5 to the genius bar as it kept powering off randomly. The technician recovered my phone and instructed me to do so if the problem happens again. The technician informed me that if the problem conitued to occur, I would have to swap my phone for a new one under the 1 year warranty. Of course, on my first day of traveling on a two week work trip, my phone began powering off randomly. Upon plugging into the USB on my laptop, itunes recommended the recovery. I began the process and now my itunes reads, "waiting for iphone" after downloading updated software & extracting it. The screen on the iphone displays the apple logo and an empty status bar. This has been this way for 8 hours.
There is no genius bar near my work trip. I have 12 days remaining here with no phone. What can i do?
    -Teddy

I was able to execute this process, but it still did not complete. Itunes finally went a couple of steps farther in the resotre process. It went from "extracting software" through its different phases and stopped at "verifying iphone restore with apple". It acts as if it completed the verify and then before going to the next step, it just pops up a prompt saying, " This iphone cannot be restored (error 9)".
I have repeatedly received error code 2009 until i executed this process. Seems like this was an improvement though.
    Thank you and anything else???

    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
Try a different Dock Connector or Lightning Connector to USB cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. An incorrectly set default packet size can cause this error. Contact the software manufacturer that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows:How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
I hope this information helps ....
    Happy Holidays!

  • My iphone 3gs is stuck in recovery mode. i have tried to restore using itunes but it ends with a message saying there was an error and couldnt be restored

hi  desperately need help. my iphone 3gs is stuck in recovery mode... when i try and do the restore via itunes it goes through the motions but when it gets to the end it tells me there was an error and it couldnt be restored...  originally it was an ex contract phone that i had opened to orange from vodafone.. it was fine until i tried to do the ios 6 update

There is a way to get it recovered from the so called DFU mode. Try to restart the phone while holding the home and power button at the same time. Then try to connect it to iTunes and do the same again. If you try that again till it works you should be able to use your iPhone as before.

Any idea why I can't purchase stuff off either iTunes or AppStore? I am getting a message saying unknown error has occurred immediately I enter my password.

    Brett,
Well done getting the wireless network secured.
You have to precede the (hex) password with a '$' in Mac OS, to tell the Internet Connect dialog box that you are keying a hex password (rather than ASCII). This is because the Mac has detected that the network is WEP protected, and leaves it to you to decide how you want to key the password.
As an alternative, in Internet Connect (or from the AirPort icon menu), you can elect to join an "Other" network. If you select your network again, it'll come up with "WEP Password" as the option of Wireless Security. You can change this to "WEP 40/128-bit hex" and then not have to precede your password with the '$'.
Alternatively, you could tell us the make and model of your wireless router and we can tell you how to set, and use an ASCII password. From your 10-character hex password, we can see that you're using 40/64-bit WEP. Non-Apple routers can be a bit fussy when using ASCII passwords with 40-bit WEP (don't worry, this is also true for Windows PC's using 40-bit WEP too), but we can talk you through it.
As a final alternative, as you have such a whizzy Mac, as long as your wireless router supports it, you could use WPA security, and never have to worry about ASCII / hex / '$', etc. Older Macs (particularly original AirPort cards - not AirPort Extreme - and OS9) were limited to 40-bit WEP.
