My Ipod cant read from my comp..!! HELP!!!

here my problem with my ipod mini,
after i tried all the solutions offered here in the discussion and from apple including the formatting, reinstall the ipod updater and itunes. Then, my ipod mini can copy songs through itunes, but whenever i unplugged and plug in the second time to transfer songs, i found out that my laptop cant read from the ipod and itunes cant recognize my ipod. The funny thing is that when i plug into another computer my ipod is readable and songs can be transfered to the ipod.
what can i do to solve this problem? is this my comps problem or wat? i'm using a laptop with window XP as OS. I tried updated my window also.
HELP!!!!

Yes, this is most likely a problem with your computer (or the connection of your computer to your iPod). Your iPod may not be formatted correctly to this computer.
The thing to do now would be to format your iPod through the iPod Updater (called "restoring"). But, since Windows can't read your iPod yet, first try these things.
Have you tried manually putting your iPod into disk mode, then connecting it to your computer again? See the details in this link:
How to put your iPod into disk mode
Have you seen this article?:
iPod doesn't appear in "My Computer" or in iTunes
What does your iPod say when you connect it to your computer? Typically, it will be either "Charging" or "Do Not Disconnect" "OK to disconnect" or the normal main menu screen.
So, now check and see if your iPod appears in "My Computer" or in iTunes now. If so, then let's try a restore on your iPod (if you do not have the iPod Updater, download it here):
Plug in your iPod (after putting it into disk mode).
Close iTunes if it is currently running.
Go to: "START -> All Programs -> iPod -> iPod Updater".
After the iPod Updater recognizes your iPod, click on the "Restore" button in that window.
This process will take about 5 minutes. Restoring will delete all the content off your iPod, but will not affect your iTuens library.
For more details on restoring, see this link:
Restoring your iPod to factory settings
Are you getting any other error messages, like on your iPod, or in the iPod Updater: "Can't mount iPod" for example? If so, list them here.
If you need any more explanation, I'd be glad to try to help you again. I hope this helps!

Using Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder that contains your catalog it's probably located in Pictures\Lightroom. In that folder you will find another folder with the extension .lrdata. You need to delete that folder and its contents, then start Lightroom again. And new previews folder will be created automatically, and you should be able to start using Lightroom normally.

• Cant read from or write to disk...

I am having a problem with my Click-wheel iPod which has worked flawlessly for the 2+ years I have had it. For me, this problem just started happening with the release of iTunes 7.02 which seems to correlate. When syncing with iTunes, it will copy anywhere from 15-150 songs at one time before giving the message [Exclamation point] "Attempting to copy to the disk {ipod name} failed. The disk could not be read from or written to." Nothing other than the iTunes version has changed with my desktop (same USB port, same hardware, same cable, etc.)
Since I found no issues on the apple forum about this I searched elsewhere and found the following link:
http://elyliu.com/blog3/2006/05/01/the-ipod-cannot-be-updated/
Clearly there are a LOT of frustrated iPod owners out there having the same issue. What is Apple doing about this? How is this going to be resolved? I am hopeful that the company is not going to simply pretend it doesn't exist as was asserted by some of the posters in this forum. Please help...
For clarification I am using iTunes 7.02 running on OSX 10.4.8 and the iPod has been restored using the most up-to-date firmware.

Jeff,
Thanks but I have already either tried the items in this article or determined they are not issues. I have a video iPod and an iPod shuffle that both successfully sync with iTunes. Given that, I am guessing that I have no issues with iTunes, PC Disk corruption, PC hardware and/or cabeling, or bad music files.
Also, since the click-wheel seems to copy songs with no issue up to a point, I also don't believe there are physical connector issues with it. It appears to be some type of buffer issue that gets overloaded or some type of data field that causes the problem. If it happens on a given song, I can go right back and sync again and it will copy the song it bombed out on last time and another 15-150 songs before doing it again. It is likely an application or driver issue as it is happening to both PC and Mac users.
I also think Apple needs to take a serious look at the article you sent and ask themselves, "Who really wants to go through all of this to listen to their music?". For a company that is "all about the user experience" they seem to be conveniently turning a blind eye to the pain they inflict on iPod owners. If the product truly is this unstable then maybe a re-engineering is in line...

• Cant read from source file

I´ve been using Compressor 4 for a long time, but thought I would give AME a try to see if there is any difference in quality. I added about 70 ProRes clips to the render que, each is between 4 and 30 seconds. These are clips with a lot of animation and effects, but they have already been exported to 1920 x 1200 ProRes files. I have 6 different presets: DXV and PhotoJPEG codec with three different resolutions each. When I start the que I get an error message saying that source file cant be read. Please check if it

• Read from Text File - Help Bug?

Hi - I am currently working on LV8 and I think that there is some misunderstanding potential in the help file. To be more exact in the help to the "Read From Text File" VI.
The description for "count":
" ... If count is <0, the function reads the entire file. The
default is –1, which indicates to read a single line if you placed a checkmark
next to the Read Lines shortcut menu item and to read the
entire file if you removed the checkmark next to the item. "
If count is lower than zero, the function reads the entire file. That sounds clear to me.
The default is -1, which indicates to read a single line if you placed a checkmark next to the "Read Lines" shortcut menu item. Now what? Does it read a single line or the whole file?
.. and to read the entire file if you removed the checkmark next to the item. I thought it reads the whole file if I use -1 ?
the VI itself behaves as I'd expect it to:
* If I place a checkmark next to Read Lines and put -1, I get an array containing the lines
* If I remove the checkmark, I get only a single string item.
Now where is the error? Is the VI not working properly or only the description a little bit ... strange ?

?hein??
?what?
Both you guys lost me..
And I drink coffee without sugar (being sweet enough, already)
Here is what I get from Context Help on the Read From Text File:
Read from Text File
Reads a specified number of characters or lines from a byte stream file. By default, this function reads all characters from the text file. Wire an integer value to count to specify how many individual characters you want to read starting with the first character. Right-click the function and place a checkmark next to the Read Lines option in the shortcut menu to read individual lines from the text file. When you select the Read Lines option in the shortcut menu, wire an integer value to the count input to specify how many individual lines you want to read from the file starting with the first line. Enter a value of -1 in count to read all characters and lines from the text file.
Humm.
New feature (again).. If you select checkmark the Read Lines option, it will not send the text to a sting indicator, as shown in the attached image. If selected, then it's expecting to write lines to an array of strings... WHY??? I don't know.. I'll ask..
Strange... LV8 is full of mysteries...

The read from spread sheet Vi has two data outputs : the top right retrieves the whole file as a 2D array, if you leave the "number of rows" input on the left unwired.

• Read from spreadsheet function help

Hi
I have 2 csv files, each with like say 10 rows of numbers in column 1 only. So its a 10x1 matrix. I want to plot them using the read from spreadsheet functions (I created two Read from SS icons, each read in numbers from the two csv files.. have transpose to always true... index set to -1 to read whole file). But the output of that returns a 2d array. And I have trouble moving forward from that point. I tried to change the output array dimension from 2 to 1. Then link up the two 1d arrays to a bundle, then to xy graph. That didnt work. Can someone give me a hint on how to move forward from that?
And is there a big difference between the xy graphs and the waveform graphs?
Thanks a lot in advance.
Jerry

If you have transpose set to true, then you should just use the first row output of the Read From Spreadsheet. This is a 1D array. If you still want to use the 2D array output, then use an index array function and get row 0. You'll get a 1D array. If you don't want to set transpose to true, then use an index array and get column 0. The attachment shows the three different ways. They all produce the same graph.
The difference between a waveform graph and an XY graph is that the waveform graph displays evenly sampled data and the XY graph can display unevenly sampled data. When you create data for a waveform graph, you provide a y array, a t0, and a dt. With an XY graph, you provide a y array and an X array that may or may not contain unevenly spaced points.

• Hashtable containsKey() problem when String key is read from a file - HELP

I'll try to be brief:
I open a .txt file of Unicode encoding (not ANSI) in order to fetch some info.
After I manipulate each line with splits etc I use a String as a key to a Hashtable.
The problem is that later inside my code, I try to check wether this key (and hence its corresponded value) exists and I get a false value from the containsKey() method.
and here's the code (I have embedded some comments //-type that address to this thread):
FileInputStream fis = new FileInputStream(initFilename);
InputStreamReader isr = new InputStreamReader(fis, "UTF-16");
BufferedReader br = new BufferedReader(isr);
lineText = loadSubiPhraseFilter(br);
//In the loadSubiPhraseFilter method
//parsing an input like this:
//δόξα τώ Θεώ,1:1,2:2
//Yeah, I know, its all greek to you ;)
//Thus we first split the line with ','
//we split the first token with ' ' and each one of the N words,
//serves as an index in a N-dimension hashtable
//This is achieved implicitly by adding another hashtable as a value to a String key etc...
//When all words are added, the hashtable which contains the last word is used
//to put another hashtable whose only key is the String "Index"
//which points to the rest of the data. The thing is, I never get that far...
//I dont get to even get a positive containsKey() when giving an inserted key at a later time
//here's the loading procedure
while((lineText = br.readLine()) != null && (lineText.charAt(0) != '#'))
String [] info = lineText.split("[,]");
/*Load subi indeces in a vector*/
Integer [][] subiIndex = new Integer [info.length-1][2];// = new Vector<Integer>();
for(int i = 1; i < info.length; i += 1)
//load subiIndex here...
/*Then fetch phrase to be modified and load its 'n' words in an n-dimesion hash which will utterly point to the subi indeces*/
/*Starting from the last word, we put the index vector*/
String [] word = info[0].split("[ ']+");
Hashtable<String, Object> nextWord = new Hashtable<String, Object>();
nextWord.put("Index", subiIndex);
/*Then we create a chain of hash dimensions corresponding to phrase words*/
for(int i = word.length-1; i >= 0; i -=1)
Hashtable<String, Object> prevWord = new Hashtable<String, Object>();
//Yeah, I even tried the .trim() method...
prevWord.put(word.trim(), nextWord);
nextWord = prevWord;
System.out.print(word[i] + "<-");
/*We update the hash head and also add the first word with its first letter capitalized as key pointing to the same next key in hash dimension chain*/
subiPhraseFilter = nextWord;
subiPhraseFilter.put((capitalMap.get(word[0].charAt(0))+word[0].substring(1)).trim(), subiPhraseFilter.get(word[0]));
//The following debbuging print outs work just fine. Its only just later when I cant get a containsKey()...
System.out.println("|| "+subiPhraseFilter);
System.out.println("subiPhraseFilter.containsKey("+word[0]+"): "+subiPhraseFilter.containsKey(word[0]));
//Then the following code is executed
Integer [][] subiPhraseIndeces(String word1, String word2, String word3)
String [] tmp = {word1, word2, word3};
Hashtable<String, Object> dimension = subiPhraseFilter;
//The following debbuging print out does NOT return true
//even when I explicitly give a String key which I know it is inserted
System.out.println("subiPhraseFilter.containsKey(" + tmp[0] + "): " + subiPhraseFilter.containsKey("ενλόγω".trim()));
for(int i = 0; (i < tmp.length) && (tmp[i] != null) && dimension.containsKey(tmp[i]); i += 1)
//This is NEVER executed...
System.out.println(i + ": dimension.containsKey(" + tmp[i].trim() + ")");
dimension = (Hashtable<String, Object>)dimension.get(tmp[i].trim());
return (Integer [][])dimension.get("Index");
Whats most irritating is that this also happens arbitrarily in another place of my code where I load again info by using each line as a key to another Hashtable and, the containsKey() method returns true to all but one (!) line-words, even if I change its position in the file. I won't put the latter code here because its just very simple. (in case I wasnt clear I read a section of a file that looks like
wordA
wordB
wordC
wordN
each wordX is put as a key to a Boolean value and yet, containsKey(wordA) returns false even if i change the input file to
wordB
wordA
wordC
wordN
isn't that just peculiar?
A significant note in this problem is that I do not read english characters, rather than greek (hence the unicode filetype) which I put as keys to the hashtable; later I try to get corresponded values by fetching text (which I also manipulate) from a JTextfield, as key, and I'm afraid that maybe something is happening there.
However the code sample I added above didnt work even when I added an english word in the file and explicitly asked wether it is contained as a key...
Maybe I am doing something I really can't see right now...
Help would be appreciated BalusC: "I would also not be surprised if that file is after all actually just UTF-8"
No, it's not cause I explictly saved the .txt file as Unicode in wordpad and NOT as UTF-8. By the way notepad has ANSI as its default save-type.
However I converted my input files to UTF-8 and read them using the "UTF-8" String flag in the constructor of the reader I was using. All the same.
EDIT: Not to metion, the UTF-8 file needed an empty line at the beggining or my parsing would skip the first line, messing everything up!
Just for the sake of it I will show the output of my program (redirected to a file cause cmd.exe does not support greek letters, or I didnt find a way to make it so):
(This is the output when I load from the UTF-8 file the word "ενλόγω" in my has as a key (pointing to a Boolean i think - it doesnt really matter). What I print is the key of each dimension of the hash -here there's only one dimension- and then I print the hash reference, i.e like a toString() representation. The result shows that the Hashtable contains at key "ενλόγω" a value which is another Hashtable which contains the key "Index" pointing to something you shouldnt care. The hash head also contains the key "Ενλόγω", which is actually the same as before only to have its first letter capitalized, which in turn points to a hash with one key etc...)
ενλόγω<-|| {ενλόγω={Index=[[Ljava.lang.Integer;@360be0}, Ενλόγω={Index=[[Ljava.lang.Integer;@360be0}}
subiPhraseFilter.containsKey(ενλόγω): true
(And later on I get a string from a JTextField I tokenize it and here's what I get when I reach the same word:)
(Don't mind "Checking: ..." its 'cause I check a window of three words in order to reach up to a 3-dimension hash key. Yet I dont even get the first key!)
Current token: 'ενλόγω'
Checking: ενλόγω, null, null
subiPhraseFilter.containsKey(ενλόγω): false
Now isn't that making one crazy?
Any other ideas?
Thnak you in advance!
P.S. In case that I haven't done something really stupid which is ommitted here and yet can't be tracked, I think the problem must be somewhere between the encoding of JTextField and the encoding I read...
P.S.2 Excuse me for saying hash instead of Hashtable sometimes in the above text

• IPod not reading in computer (please help!)

Basically, both my work and my home computers stopped being able to read the iPod. However, I know it is not a problem with the computers since on the iPod itself, nothing appears under the "artists" menu anymore. Instead, everything, including music and video simply appears in the "videos" directory.
This sounds like a data corruption issue.
Anyway, this happened a month ago, and after consulting everything I could, including this forum, it seemed the only solution was to restore my iPod and loose all of its information.
Well, tonight it just happened again, and once again I had to wipe my memory clean.
Please, please tell me what I can do about this?=. Should I take it in to get serviced? (It's only 3 months old.) I just fear the same thing might happen again regardless.
An iPod with a one-month memory-life is pretty much worthless to me.
Thank you very much for your help!

Thanks for the response.
Well, it seems like the file-structer on the iPod itself keeps getting corrupt. On the iPod, suddenly everything other than one band disappears from the "artists" folder. However, everything appears under the "playlists" folder.
Also, interestingly enough, all my music playlists also appear under the video playlists. Oh and the one band remaining in the correct artists folder also has the playlist for that band in the "movies" folder
I'm a software engineer, even if there's a way to manually change the info files on the iPod, I am more than willing to give it a shot.
Also, I should note that today everything was fine on the way back from work; it only corrupted itself when plugging into the computer (and not even downloading anything!)
And obviously with everything corrupted iTunes cannot read it thus I cannot add anything. The only solution I have found so far is to restore (until it happens again.)
Thanks again for the response!

I tried checking them and unchecking them but they would not sync to my ipod. never had this problem before. help

This Apple knowledge-base article may help address that issue.
Strange iPod behaviour.
The current software version for the iPod 5th gen is 1.2.

• My ipod 30GB reads---Accessorize test :( PLAESE HELP!!!!!!

PLEASE HELP ME! My ipodGB reads "accessorize test". below that it says "please plug FW, LCD ID:1, FWPWR:0" what do i do? i can not use it, or plug it into my computer...but the backlight stays on. i have tried to reset it many times. i also do not want to be charged to fix it . plaese help me, im lost without my ipod!

Interesting, the link you were given has a similar test within it but to get to it you have to reset and then when the apple logo appears hold down the centre and the rev buttons. When you do that the apple logo reverses and you get a list of tests as shown in the link you were given. I'm guessing you haven't done that?
I haven't ever seen a diagnostic test come up on screen without going into diagnostic mode but perhaps there is some simple test built in just to test accessories.
Usually with the other tests you just do whatever is asked and you get a pass or fail. You can usually exit by doing a reset where necessary or sometimes by pushing the menu button but you've probably tried that.
The other option is to do what it asks and see if you can exit by going through them.
"Please plug FW" means plug in a firewire cable, connected to something probably, so if you have one, plug it in.
LCD ID:1 simply means your screen is connected.
FWPWR:0 means that your ipod is not drawing power via a firewire connection.
If you plug in your firewire cable it should change to a 0.
It is possible that will be the end of it or alternatively you will get another screen asking you to plug in your usb cable and possibly your head phones and a remote.
Hopefully the remote test will be optional because you may not have one!
In these kind of tests a 0 means no or not present and a 1 means yes or working ok or connected.
Having written all this, probably the quickest way to find out how to stop it is to call Apple!
If you get a test for the click wheel you will need to scroll it around and around several times until it says pass or possibly in both directions.
You may get a "key test" which means just push all the buttons.
Good luck and interested to hear what happens.
John

The String should be like this:
String[0][0] = 12
String[0][1] = 321
String[1][0] = 13
String[1][1] = 321321
here is my class

int nreg = 12;
int i=0;
int j=0;
int quebra = '\n';
int ent=0;
BufferedReader reader;
String[][] saida = new String[12][2];
char[] cod = new char[5];
char[] cod1 = new char[5];
try     {
FileReader file = new FileReader("test.txt");
reader = new BufferedReader(file);
while (i<nreg) {
while(ent != ' ') {
ent = reader.read();
cod[j] = (char) ent;
j++;
saida[0]=String.valueOf(cod) ;
while (ent != quebra) {
ent = reader.read();
cod1[j] = (char) ent;
j++;
saida[i][1]=String.valueOf(cod1) ;
i++;
catch (IOException ioe)     {
System.out.println ("I/O Exception occurred!");
return saida;
Im getting problem with while and dont know how to deal to make my program runs fine.
My static void method is in another class

import java.io.*;
public class exe2{
public static void main(String args[]){
String[][] saida = new String[12][2];
try {
Reader teste = new Reader();
saida = teste.readfromFile();
catch(Exception e){
System.out.print(e.toString());
for (int i=0;i<12;i++)
System.out.println(saida[0]);
Any help is really apreciated

I have modified this class, but i still have problems
import java.io.*;
public class Reader{
public Reader (){
public String[][] readfromFile ()     {
int nreg = 12;
int i=0;
int j=0;
int quebra = '\n';
int ent=0;
BufferedReader reader;
String[][] saida = new String[12][2];
char[] cod = new char[10];
char[] cod1 = new char[15];
try     {
FileReader file = new FileReader("test.txt");
reader = new BufferedReader(file);
while (i<nreg) {
j=0;
while(ent != ' ') {
ent = reader.read();
cod[j] = (char) ent;
j++;
saida[0]=String.valueOf(cod) ;
j=0;
while (ent != quebra) {
ent = reader.read();
cod1[j] = (char) ent;
j++;
saida[i][1]=String.valueOf(cod1) ;
i++;
catch (IOException ioe)     {
System.out.println ("I/O Exception occurred!");
return saida;
I see that there is a problem with cod1 because when i run this class
import java.awt.*;
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.io.*;
public class exe2{
public static void main(String args[]){
String[][] saida = new String[12][2];
try {
Reader teste = new Reader();
saida = teste.readfromFile();
catch(Exception e){
System.out.print(e.toString());
for (int i=0;i<12;i++)
System.out.println(saida[0]);
I hava an arrayoutofbound exception 15 and displays null null null ....
any hint?
