My ipod touch doesn't show as a device in itunes sidebar

My touch downloaded my playlist from my PC windows xp just fine the first time.  Now when I plug into the PC it has a triple ding like it recognizes that it is plugged in, but doesn't show  up in itunes sidebar.  However, my touch has no problem  being recognized when syncing with my Mac. All of my other devices, nano, ipad also have no problem syncing with my PC, or showing up in itunes sidebar. I have cleared the touch and reset all settings.  Any suggestions now as to how to get the touch to appear or be recognized? (It also dings when plugged in to PC, but it is a different sound than what the nano and ipad make when being plugged in.

  • My Ipod Touch Won't Show as a device in iTunes

    Hope you can help,
I'm running all the latest software (ie 10.5.6) on my iMac 2.GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
When I connect my iPod Touch, iPhoto automatically opens and the device is shown but my iTunes remains un-opened. When I manually open it and re-try to connect the ipod still no joy! But my iPod WILL charge whilst connected.
This has only just started happening!!
    I've tried:
    • re-installing the latest itunes
    • re-setting my ipod
    • re-starting and re-connecting
    • using different USB ports
Can anyone shed any light to my situation?
    Thanks

    Thanks but already tried this.
If you haven't already try restarting your iMac.
If the iPod does not show up in iTunes after reinstalling the Apple Mobile Device Service, the issue could be related to the USB connection.
Make sure the iPod touch is directly connected to the back of the iMac, using the cable that came with it. Also disconnect any other USB devices, other than the keyboard and mouse. This article: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1286 more tips for troubleshooting USB connections.

  • After hard drive replacement iPod Touch doesn't show up in Devices menu

I know this is an often-encountered problem, but I am tired of searching... I had to replace the hard drive on my MacBook after 14 months of service (that's another topic of discussion), I want to now sync my info on the iPod Touch with my computer, especially Address Book and iCal, but it doesn't show up in the Devices list. I have tried holding the Shift + Control keys on opening iTunes to no avail. What can I do?

Sorry, this is stupid, but I just reinstalled iTunes and it worked! Don't ask me why. I deleted the iTunes app that the guy at the store had installed, downloaded a new app and reinstalled it and it worked. Even while installing it my iPod Touch beeped and as soon as iTunes was installed it showed up in Devices. I synced the iPod with iTunes, making sure to fusion the data rather than replace the iPod data with the Mac Library. It took awhile because I have almost 3000 entries in my Contacts, but the Address Book was filled up along with iCal, so I am up and running again. Whew! I must add that I had updated the existing iTunes to the latest version, but that had not worked, so you have to completely reinstall. Now, on with the discussion of how a hard drive in a 1 year old MacBook could break and lose all its data...

  • IPod Touch doesn't show up in iTunes

So I've been reading the support site and this forum for 2 days and I know this is a common problem, but I've tried everything.
    Environment:
    PC w/ Visa SP1 (Intel 975XBX Motherboard)
32GB iPod Touch (new with 1.1.4 software)
After many itunes reinstalls using all the hints about complete removal and iPod resets I always end up in the same place:
    iPod shows up under MyComputer
Driver gets installed by Vista and reported as good.
Under device manager iPod shows up under external devices.
Under device manager there is NO entry for Apple Mobile Device under the USB port section.
After a call to Apple tech support, they said it is a PC problem with the USB mass storage driver. I got new versions of BIOS and driver inf files from the Intel website for my motherboard but still get the same results.
Any hints ? Apple has pointed the finger at the PC and is no longer any help.

I have the same problem as well, my new laptop doesn't recognize my ipod touch either(16gb) though i plugged my brother's ipod shuffle on an my laptop picked it up. The only difference between my old comp (that picked up my itouch) and my laptop is that the laptop has vista and my pc has xp. The only thing i could think of doing would be redownloading the driver for my itouch to my laptop but i couln't find anything to that nature.

  • IPod touch doesn't show up on iTunes

ey everyone I'm having some trouble I'm currently running windows vista and when I plug my touch into my computer it doesn't show up on iTunes? Anyone got any idea how I can fix this? I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes but it didn't work , any help would be greatly appreciated!

Ok people after messing up three days with my jailbroken ipod touch cauze my itunes didn't recognize it i figured out that the problem is first windows recognized it as a imaging device o as a camera, i found in the device manager was listed mi apple ipod under portable devices and there was the problem it has to be listed under universal serial bus controllers named as a apple ipod so this is what i did but first make sure u have correctly installed itunes and the apple mobile device support:
1 open the device manager or windows button + r is run and then type devmgmt.msc
2 look for the portable devices and find the apple ipod or wherever that is listed on your pc.
3 once u find the apple ipod do a right click on it and click on uptade driver software
4 take the manualy opcion or browse on my computer and then look for this folder on your computer C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers
there should be the driver that itunes recognize and your windows wont recognize your ipod as a camera again but i repeat u have to make sure u have installed the apple mobile device support u can get it by extracting the itunes+quicktime package using winrar. so click on update or next what ever on the update process and next time itunes will open your ipod for sincying thanks to forums ilounge.com
u dont need to switch usb ports is anyone has questions about ipod touch in general or itunes please email me at [email protected] or [email protected]
there is a comunity for free sftware wich i'm on it and is for helping people i had the same problems and with itunes and the rolling back installation of the apple mobile device support so i hope u solve your problems

  • IPod touch doesn't show up as a device?

The screen on my iPod touch cracked so I want to upload the photos I have onto my computer so they aren't lost forever. When I plug it into my computer it charges and it works on iTunes etc but it isn't listed as a device and autoplay doesn't work. iTunes is basically the only thing that recognizes it. How do I fix this without like restoring the iPod or whatever like these photos are really important and I want them to be saved onto my computer

    - If the iPod does not have a passcode then connect to another computer and see if you can get the photos from the camera roll.
    - If the iPod has a screen-lock passcode, try backing up to iTunes and then restore from that backup. The n try importing the photos. Next try on another computer
    - If you used PhotoStream then try getting them from your PhotoStream. See that topic of:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
