My Mac Air sounds like fan turned on

My computer suddenly started to sound like a fan was on. It got quite loud and was warm.
I am using an external monitor and was on WebEx. I had a PowerPoint loaded, and it was when I was viewing the PowerPoint that this started to happen. I shut off the video from WebEx, and quickly grabbed a flashdrive to back up!
All seems well now.
I've used PP when webconferencing and have never had this happen before.

If you only hear it in a quiet room, that is normal.
noisy fan reasons:
A: you notice it more in a quiet room (the typical case) which is normal, all is AOK
B: fuzz and dust has caked onto the blades causing the fan hub to get off balance and make a buzzing sound.
C: fan rotor is going bad and making a whirring or buzz noise (rare).
D: Fan is spinning up due to excess heat from gaming, heavy graphics (typical, all is OK)
A and D are normal
B and C are not.

Power Cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.

I have had my MBP for about a month now. I've never had a problem with any of my macs before so I doubt this is a problem. At least I hope not.
Today I turned on it on and booted up in XP, before I even got to the OS selection screen there was a noise that sounded like a fan going from a slow rpm to a dramatically high rpm. It's the "whir" noise. My MBP is not running hot at all. I have a coolpad running underneath it so I turned that off and it still makes the noise so it's the MBP for sure. It runs fine I just wanted to make sure everything was ok.
Also, I was hooking up an external hdd today through usb and I believe that I had the wrong power adapter and I got an alert (again in XP) that said the usb port is having too much power. (I can't remember the exact message) So I unplugged it and both of the usb ports on the left hand side were dead the right one works fine. So I restarted and now the port closest to the user works but the one closest to the screen does not. I tried using a small flash drive and still no response. Any suggestions there?
Note: On the dead port when i plug in my optical mouse i get a very quick red flash from the mouse like there isn't enough power to drive it.

I noticed last night that it was getting softer if I wasn't using the computer but when I would move the mouse and start using applications (any applications) it would get louder.
I have had my computer on for a couple of night nows just putting it to sleep at night. Last night I shut it down completely and I booted it up this morning and no sounds. So i'm not sure, maybe for a simpler explanation it just needed "a good nights rest."

Mac Mini sound continually turning down

My mac mini sound is continually turning down. When I hit the sound up button, the sound goes up for a millisecond and then goes back down. It is really annoying because the sound up icon is in the middle of my screen. This problem has been occurring on and off for a week now.

Ok I found out how to fix it. I deleted my audio cache and it hasn't done it again.

Software that makes textedit sound like typewriter

i am looking for a software that will make my MBP keyboard sound like a typewriter when I write text.
I have found several programs that will do that, but it will do that on everything I type on my computer, emails,
forms, etc. I only want to write text and have the keyboard sound like a typewriter.
Anyone know of a program like that? I also found OmmWriter but I don't care for the music and other sounds.

my Macbook air mid 2012 suddenly turn off after a strange sound (like the sound òf a fuse has blown or something like that) and I also feel a burnt smell too while i am watching a film on the internet and did not charge the laptop at this moment. The sound was from the left of it, and now just a dark screen , even I tried charging it (still has green light at the charge tool). I bought it on 13st April 2013, not often use.
I love apple and i am so sad that a new product which i seldom use could be break so easily and outstanding. It's so late in my country now but i am too disappoint about the trouble so i am writing with hope of supporting from Apple and the community.

I have tried with a wired USB keyboard and mouse using a single screen. Powered up with option pressed. No change.
Reset SMC no change

Run the Apple hardware test to see what it tells you. Run the extended test when prompted, which can take awhile.

I've had this whirring noise on the fan for a couple of weeks, I've vacumed it as best I can without opening my imac up but the noise didnt stop (like a whirring clicking noise with the fan, like it was stuck on something). I've booked it in to be looked at in the Apple store on Monday (soonest appointment avaliable), but I've just switched it on and the fan clicked a couple of times and then went quiet? Am I safe to use my mac? WIll it overheat? I'm scared to use it because the fan doesnt sound like its running at all now ? I've got 5 photo sessions and a wedding to edit and I may cry! Pps I'm a bit rubbish with tecnical things so sorry if this is something obvious!

Do 2-3 SMC resets and see if this takes care of the problem. If it does not then book an appointment with your local Apple Store to have it looked at by a Genius.

My pro book since loading microsoft office mac is now overheating and it sounds like a fan is going on. Is this normal???

My office IT rep downloaded microsoft office for mac on my macbook pro. I needed the excel file to be able to save on my office's portal. Since yesterday, not only does the battery drain within an hour or so.....but IT"S VERY VERY HOT. & it makes a hissing sound-like a fan is going on, even when just using safari or my mail program...the keyboard also very hot....in just a few minutes. Is this normal????? Do I need to remove the entire download? or is there something I can do to resolve this....???? Please help me..

Open Activity Monitor found in Utilities, click on the %CPU column header in the main display to sort by that, and see if any of Office's components is hogging the processor. Might be something else. More info: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1473
