My Mac-Pro can no longer see my local network after install

My older Mac-Pro hard drive died & I had to install Snow Leopard again from scratch. For some reason, now I can't see any of the Windows PC on my network. I CAN see the Internet (I'm on the Mac-Pro writing this) & I can see my old Mac with Tiger, but I can't seen any of the Windows XP or 7 systems. I know, they XXXX but, I still need to see them so I can taunt them & make fun of them etc...
Here's the troubleshooting part of the show:
I CAN ping them by name from Terminal & from the Network Utility.
I can NOT see them when I go to Finder > Go > Connect to Server & enter their names.
I've rebooted 4 or 5 times & installed the latest updates.
I could really use some help on this, I have about 20 computers on my network & I used to be able to see them all.

For anyone who may have this problem in the future, I thought I would post a reply myself on how I solved this problem.
The problem turned out to be my router. In the middle of the night I had an idea, so I rebooted my router & switches & now ALL the computers (even the Windoze ones) show up!

  • Imac and Macbook pro can no longer see one another

I'm not sure why, but all since I upgraded to Yosemite, I can no longer see my iMac on my Macbook Pro and vice versa. I could always see the computer that I needed to connect to in finder, or I could connect with my iCloud password. As of today, I can no longer access my iMac from my Macbook Pro and that's a problem. If someone could provide directions (dumbed down version) explaining how to connect the computers from scratch, I would greatly appreciate it. I am fine with setting it up again but I can't recall how I did it.  Thanks so  much. I did upgrade both my iMac and MacBook pro to Yosemite over the weekend.

  • Can no longer see any wireless networks

    Hello,
I've had my macbook for just under a year now and have never had a problem seeing/connecting to any wireless networks in the past. However, over the past few days I have had issues connecting to my router. It keeps kicking me off every 15 or 20 minutes and when I try to reconnect it often gives me a timeout error. I have reset the router countless times and have even reset it to factory settings and triple checked that the firmware is up-to-date. I felt it was a router issue until this morning; it kicked me off so I reset my router and turned my airport off&on but now I cannot even see the network nor the other 10 (or so) networks that are typically viable. Since I cannot even see the wireless networks across the block anymore I seems like this has to be a computer issue (or at least the computer has to be involved to some degree).
I've tried to make an appointment at the genius bar but they are booked solid, as in they don't have any available appointments available at any time, even days in the future. Has anyone seen this problem before? Is my wireless card is on the fritz? Does anyone know of any potential software issues that could cause this?
    Thanks in advance.

You can skip the Genius Bar and just call AppleCare directly.
    However, a couple of suggestions:
    • create a new location in your Network preferences; does the problem persist?
    • create a new user and log in to that account; does the problem persist?
This one's more extreme: Do an Archive and Install, which will completely reinstall the system but preserve user accounts and data:

If these don't help, then it may well be hardware.
    Good luck!

  • Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2 Update - can no longer see PCs on network (e.g. ping/offer remote assistance)

Hello - I just did the Adobe Acrobat 9.3.2 update in two different offices and the strangest thing happened while finishing 4 computers today.
I did the restart after installing the last update - 9.3.2 - and I can not connect to the computers again.
The workstations are Windows XP Pro SP3..on a SBS2003 network.  The computers restart and the users can log back into the network and have no problems accessing network resources, Internet, etc.  The only problem is that I can not ping the workstations from the server...I can not connect to the workstations from the server either.  It's very strange how this has happened to the last 4 workstations today - when I had no problems with the other workstations yesterday.
I had the users restart the workstations several times - no luck - even shutdown/restart - no luck.
I am not in the offices to troubleshoot further in person....but I can have somebody be my "hands" onsite if need be.
Has anyone come across this before and know how to fix it - fingers crossed!!
    Thanks!
    Tammy

  • RS Configuration Manager can no longer find 2008 R2 instance after installing 2012 instance side-by-side

    Hi all,
I had a (default) SQL Server 2008 R2 RS instance running just fine until I installed a SQL Server 2012 instance side by side.
Now, the original reporting service service still runs, as in the Windows service is still running and I can access the web based Report Manager, but I can no longer access it via the Reporting Services Configuration Manager (2008). I keep getting the message
"No report servers were found" when trying to connect.
The 2012 version of Reporting Services Configuration Manager is able to find the new 2012 instance though.
I've found an article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960374/en-us) that handles this, but I don't have a dedicated server available to test this on, so I'd like some more info first, if possible.
The article handles SQL Server 2008 vs SQL Server 2005, so not sure if it applies to my case (in other articles I read that the WMI namespaces have changed between 2005 and 2008, but nothing is said about 2012).
It says to update the ReportingService.mof file by replacing RS_[instance_name] by [instance_name], but the .mof file that handles the 2012 instance also contains the RS_[instance_name] text and seems to run just fine
Any other suggestions or extra details about the above would be greatly appreciated!

  • I can no longer boot up in osx after installing windows 7 with bootcamp

After installing windows 7 with boot camp I am no longer able to access my osx side, I do not receive an option when holding alt when turning on my MacBook

What options do you get? If you don't get any options then you may not be pressing and holding the option key long enough or you are pressing it too early or too late.

  • MacBook Pro can no longer see the hard drive

    I've got a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo, 15-inch.
Okay, so I was chasing the nazis out of North Africa in Call of Duty 2 when the game froze. Command-Option-Escape was unresponsive, so I held down the power button to shut the whole thing down. When I brought it back up, I got the flashing folder icon.
After yelling a few words I shan't repeat here, I booted off the installation DVD, then started up Disk Utility to try to repair the disk. However, Disk Utility only sees the DVD; it doesn't see the hard drive at all. Neither does Startup Disk or System Profiler. (The hard drive would be under the ATA section in System Profiler's menu, right? It only shows the DVD drive.) If I try to go ahead with the OS X installation, at the "Select a Destination" screen, where the list of disks should be is disturbingly blank. So according to every method I've tried so far, it's as if my hard drive has been entirely disconnected.
This was my Christmas present, and I was hoping to get at least two years out of it, not two weeks. Anyone have any idea how to get this beautiful machine back on its feet again? I'm familiar with Unix and not afraid of using the command line, but I'm not sure what to try there.

  • Can no longer see ANY wifi networks

I have a 4.5 year-old PowerBook (titanium) 550... it seems my airport card is simply no longer working. No matter where I am, even when I know there is a network there and I have the password to access that network, my airport card cannot seem to see any networks. This includes networks that I control and know the settings have not changed.
This started about a month ago; for a few days I couldn't see any networks. Then, suddenly, I was able to, and connect without a problem, for about a week. Now, however, it seems the problem has returned and is permanent.
Any ideas? Could the internal antennas be messed up? Or do the airport cards sometimes just go bust?
    thanks.

I have the EXACTLY same problem.
My Apple TV (3rd generation) does not attemp to find any wifi networks since two day ago.  Sometimes it does find and connnects to my home wifi network, but it loses connection in  a couple of minutes at the longest.  When I plug in an ethernet cable, the apple TV works just fine.  But when I disconnect it, same thing happens all over again.  I have tested several modifications and now I am sure this is not an issue  of the router or the network settings.
If anybody has a solution, please be kind to let me know.  I can't even get my apple TV replaced since I'm overseas.

  • Installed XP, can no longer see MB on network

I installed boot camp on my new macbook and everything went very smoothly with that. I have internet access in both OSX and WIndows XP.
The problem is that I use my iMac and ChronoSync to sync up the two computers and to do so I have to connect them with one another via my wireless network. Before I installed XP on the MacBook both computers showed up as visible to each other automatically when they were both active, now they can't see each other for some reason. I still have the MB set to share files and nothing has changed on the iMac.
What could be causing this and how can I fix it? The only thing I can think of is if somehow there is a setting in XP that needs to be changed to allow sharing, but that doesn't make sense because I'm booted in OSX. Any ideas?

    Hi,
this issue could be what your seeing. Please check to see if you have 2 Creative Cloud folders.
ANNOUNCEMENT:"Creative Cloud Files (unknown)” folder created with 1.9.1.474 update

by David Baxter (April 3, 2015)EditAnnouncement "Creative Cloud Files (unknown)” folder created with 1.9.1.474 updateExpireDelete
With the recent update of the Creative Cloud Desktop app (1.9.1.474) we unfortunately introduced a bug which causes the creation of a new Creative Cloud Files folder, and re-sync of all content. This will only occur the first time the sync application runs  after the update. This has caused understandable pain and confusion, for which we truly apologise.
We have taken steps to ensure we increase our focus on quality in this area to prevent a recurrence.
Once sync has completed, you will have a “Creative Cloud Files (unknown)” folder. This is because the sync application moves your Creative Cloud Files folder to this location prior to the fresh sync. You should be free to delete this folder if you have no pending edits waiting to be sync’d to the cloud.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact us at [email protected]
Again, let me say we are sorry for any inconvenience caused

  • Can no longer see email message content after upgrading to ios 6

Since upgrading to iOS 6, my email loads (from three different email accounts), but when I click on an individual message the content of the message doesn't show, only the Subject line.  If I click "reply" the content of the message appears.  Anyone else having this issue?

Same issue here. Tried "Reset Network Settings", reboot, Airplane mode on/off, and turned off 3G.
also noticed when I dial someone from iPhone4 it defaults to speaker phone. I did check voice control and Shazam to make sure it wasnt the microphone malfunctioning and both those apps work fine.

  • Mac Pro can't find hard drive with Snow Leopard installed on

    Hello there,
I have a three harddrive setup.
Harddrive 1 is in bay 1 and has two partitions.
    1: For system and apps
    2: For Documents and stuff
Hard drive 2+3 are in Bay 2+3 and are combined to a RAID 0 drive.
Some time ago I installed Leopard and the brand new an formatted hard drive.
It happened that it always took 2 start ups to run Leopard because always on the first time it didn t find the system on hard drive one. Pushing the 'D' button often helped.
Of course that was nothing to work with, although I at least could get some work done, once I loaded Leopard successfully.
So I tried Disk Utility, fsck without success.
I also tried the way of using fdisk to mark the partion as active, which only resulted in now not being able to boot at all.
Booting from DVD I also tried choosing my Leopard install on my hard drive as boot device (it has always shown up here) but still without success.
I am afraid things are quite messed up, since there were a few things happening at one time, which I am not overly happy about now. (Installing new RAM, installing SNOW LEOPARD on the new harddrive 1 in bay one, having still the RAID with LEOPARD on in bays 2+3).
I am already certain to do a fresh and complete reinstall of the system, I have my backup, but still there is some iTunes music and a few documents I haven't backed up yet, which I'd rather would not like to lose...
    Put it short:
What could I do to get my system running at least once?
    Thanks a lot,
    max.

After some research I found out about the nice TargetDiskMode which I used to save all my important data with my MacBook.

Ready to perform a complete and fresh install now!

  • Can no longer backup to a sparsebundle after installing 10.6.3

I have a problem with the new Mac OS X update that was brought out just a couple days ago (10.6.3).
I have my back-ups for my 2 Mac OS X machines stored on a Drobo. I have used a piece of software called "Time Tamer" that, using a sparsebundle, limits the amount a machine can use for Time Machine back-ups. The sparsebundles are named "(machinename)_(MACaddress).sparsebundle". Everytime I would go to make a back-up on this machine, Time Machine ignores the sparsebundle and goes straight to the drobo, making a NEW FULL back-up. My 10.5 machine back-ups to its sparsebundle just fine. Disk space on the drobo is at a premium and I don't have the money to expand it, as it also is used for data storage.
Time Tamer was originally made for 10.5 but worked on 10.6.1 and 10.6.2 till the recent update 10.6.3. Something in Time Machine clearly broke this important functionality.
Is anyone else having a problem with this? and how can I resolve it?

What do you mean by mountpoint exactly?
I have Time Machine pointed to the drobo, and pre 10.6.3, it always went straight to the sparsebundle (it always said "making backup disk available" ).
The Drobo has lots of files at its root directory, where the sparsebundle is located, and It has NEVER had any problem getting to it until applying this update. It's a multipurpose drive, not just for back-ups.

  • Laptop connect, Map Pro can't even see the AEBS... what gives?

I'm having no problems connecting to the AEBS network with my Macbook Pro, but my Mac Pro can't even see it. However, my Mac Pro works perfectly with my flatmate's Netgear wireless. Soooo.... what am I doing wrong? I've tried hard resets, unplugging, etc. and my Mac Pro simply can't find the AEBS at all, while working just fine with a Netgear wifi, but my Macbook Pro has no issues...
Thanks in advance for any advice...

yeah thanks... it sometimes does see the airport but it keeps disappearing then reappearing. Very spotty connection, whereas it was working great for a couple weeks two weeks ago. It's really weird.

  • I've updated to the most recent version of iTunes and I can no longer see any of my old music on my mac.  All the music is still available on my ipad.  How can i download the music on my mac?

I've updated to the most recent version of iTunes and I can no longer see any of my old music on my mac.  All the music is still available on my ipad.  How can i download the music on my mac?

First, are you positive it is really not there?  Have you looked in your iTunes folder in your Music folder, and in the media folders there? Do you see your media files?
If your media are gone it is a lot easier to restore from a proper computer backup.  Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only purchases from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software.  See this document by turingtest2: Recovering your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device - https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991
