My macbook pro's fan gets loud, extremely hot, and super slow on tumblr

Everytime I get on tumblr, my macbook gets very hot, slows down, and the fan gets loud. Its only on this website and it's only a recent thing. I have been using this website for almost a year and have never ever had an issue before. Is it the website or my computer? Please asist me. It's getting quite old.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
In short, no. This is not something that is done. You do not say what Mac you have but indicate OS 10.6.8 so I suspect an older machine. Dirt and dust can accumulate around the fans and exhaust ports and can lead to increase temperature.
Apple genius bar would be able to help you over the counter if it is a continued concern.
You can try a simple SMC reset to see if improves your situation.

  • MacBook Pro overheating, fan is loud

I have a MacBook Pro 13", purchased August 2012. It has been overheating. The fan has becoming very loud and it keeps restarting. Also, this pop up keeps appearing, but disappears just as fast as it appears. It doesn't give me enough time to read what it says or copy the screen. Only thing I can tell is that there is a yellow triangle with "!".
This is a copy of my activity monitor.

In addition to a SMC reset, install iStat Menus:
    http://bjango.com/mac/istatmenus/
Open Activity Monitor and set it to ALL PROCESSES and set %CPU to display values from high to low.
    Perform an Apple Hardware test:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1509
You may need to start it with the OPTION and D keys.
When your MBP gets hot, post images of iStat and Activity Monitor for inspection.  If the hardware test picks up any problems, please indicate as such.
    Ciao.

  • Why is my macbook pro's fan so loud all of a sudden since update 10.9.5?

So usually with my nice macbook pro retina 15 inch, I can play 4k videos with no problem and the fan has always been quiet. Now ever since I downloaded the new update, my fan is so loud! Any ideas? And yes I have enough ram and space left for proper use. Update 10.9.5 *****!

Both watching videos and running Chrome will heat up your machine. As your machine heats up, the fans will run faster to help could down the machine. I've not heard of 10.9.5 making the fans run faster or the temperatures climb, so I have to say that what you're experiencing is PROBABLY normal.
Use the trial version of iStat Menus 5 to monitor your temps and fan speeds. If the machine seems abnormally hot, take it to an Apple Store or an AASP and have the techs look it over.
    Good luck,

  • New MacBook Pro 13" Fans spinning loud and fast all the time?

I was curious if anyone else that just ordered the brand new 13" MacBook Pro which I got one and a half days ago has their internal fans spinning constantly? MIne are going really fast now for over an hour and all I have open is Safari, iChat and Skype. I'm curious if this is similar to the update Apple released for my early 2008 model 15" MacBook Pro a couple weeks ago for the fans due to them spinning at a high speed. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

I just did some more searching on Google and found this article to be helpful and the fans seem to have slowed down to normal operation and the Finder is only using 7% CPU now.
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20041209181913938
I only relaunched Finder and it seems to be running the fans a lot slower not sure if I will have to follow the rest of those steps if relaunching Finder doesn't fix it permanently. Let me know what everyone else thinks.

  • Macbook Pro Retina Late 2013 Runs extremely Hot

Hello, I have an Macbook Pro 13inch Retina, Late 2013. it gets extremely hot after 30 minutes of usage, I don't know why, please help me out. I've tried running Apple Hardware Diagnostic but it couldn't find any problems.

Runaway applications can shorten battery runtime, affect performance, and increase heat and fan activity

  • My MacBook Pro with retina display got extremely hot while closed an in a carrying case

I have a new Macbook Pro with Retina display.  I left my house at approxomately 6 p.m and I took my macbook pro with me.  I put it in a protective Incase sleeve which I put in my messenger bag.  When I got to my final destination about 1 hour and 40 mintutes later when I went to retrieve my macbok the entire messenger bag was hot.  When I went to get the macbook out of the sleeve the actual computer was so hot I could barely touch it.  I could even smell the computer (you know that new comptuter smell) standing a few feet away from it in a cafe that his good ventilation.  When I left my house the battery was at 100% charge.  When I discovered the computer in this state I had to hold down the power button to get it to start.  When i logged in the battery was at 47%.  I discovered that I left iphoto, chrome and microsoft word open.  Should I be concerned?  The machine was so hot that I can not imagine that if this turns into a reoccuring issue that it won't damage the computer.  I wonder what would of happened had I not discovered it.

When it gets to a certain temperatue it would have gone into thermal shutdown, from your scenario it looks like your machine failed to enter sleep mode or power nap due to some applications that was holding it up.
as this machine was inside a sleeve and still running the machine couldn't dissipate the heat and ramped up the fans to attempt to cool itself hence the battery drain.

  • Macbook Pro 13" 2.53 GHz extremely hot

I just bought a Macbook Pro 13" 2.53 GHz and have been running it for about a month, maybe 3-4 hours a night, if that. This machine gets hot as ** when it's plugged in. I mean HOT. I just installed Snow Leopard yesterday and I was curious about the heat after the install. I installed Fan Control and I noticed that the left fan was running at 1998rpm and the right fan was spinning at -1 rpm. Is this an incompatibility issue with Snow Leopard? Anybody else see this? Very bizarre because I think I can hear both fans running. Maybe it's just the sound reflecting from one fan to the other side making it seem like both are spinning. I don't know. Any similar issues out there?

You know....I just saw that in a teardown video. Unreal. I feel like a complete ******* right now. Thanks a bunch, man. I appreciate it.

    Jintymcginty61,
there’s not enough information yet to answer your question. Which version of OS X is installed on your MacBook Pro?

  • One of my MacBook Pro's fans is running at full speed

Out of the blue today, my 2011 MacBook Pro started fans went mental when I awoke if from it's sleep. They started running at full speed, far louder than I've ever heard them before. I searched through other discussions and it suggested I try an SMC reset. I performed one of these with no success.
I then opened smcFanControl and noticed that my leftside fan was running at 7000rpm+ and the rightside fan was running at normal speed 2000rpm. It randomly spools on and off high speed and I cannot find any fixes or similar problems online. Can anyone suggest a fix for this or should I be taking it to a repairer?
FYI my logic board was only replaced in April under warranty so could it be faulty?

    Hi andyBall_uk
SMC fan control measures temp also. Currently running at 47*C as you can see in the screenshot below. I tried overriding the fan speeds...works for the right fan but not the left one so it appears only the left fan has the fault.
The weird thing is, when you press your finger down anywhere on the left speaker next to the built-in keyboard, the fan slows back down to normal speed, but when you let go it speeds back up again. I might open it up in the morning to see if any of the connections are loose, because it seems weird that this happens with a small amount of pressure applied to the body. Also of you tilt the macbook it sometimes slows back down to normal speed (but sometimes stays at high speed). I will let you know how I go. Thanks for your suggestion/s

  • Having Macbook Pro sleep/fan Issues

SUMMARY: Macbook Pro eventually loses ability to sleep properly, will begin to constantly wake with fans at full speed and then quickly go back to sleep, back and forth every 30 seconds while the lid is closed. Restarting fixes the issue but it always comes back after a day or two. Help?
I only occasionally shut down my Macbook Pro - usually I just close the lid and let it sleep when I'm away. But I've noticed that, after a while from my last shutdown/startup, it has trouble staying in sleep mode when the lid is closed. Initially it will sleep and the light will begin to fade in and out like normal, but after about a minute the light will come back on and the fans will suddenly boost to full speed, then quiets down and the unit sleeps again. This cycle repeats every 30 seconds or so, so I'll come home to find my MBP hot and quickly fading in and out of sleep mode. When I open the lid, the screen comes on immediately, then fades to black. I have to hit a key or something to get it to wake up properly.
Any idea what's happening here? I have a feeling it might be software-related.

    Try these first:
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
If neither hels then reinstall OS X:
Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    Do the following:
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.

  • Macbook Pro Late 2008 gets real hot when viewing Flash Content.  Does anyone have a solution?

Macbook Pro Late 2008 gets hot, fans kick on at 6200 rpm, and CPU usage of about 65% when viewing Flash Content.  I've been to the Adobe Forum, but saw no solution for this.  Already unchecked Hardware Acceleration.  I had motherboard replaced just a week ago, so that's not the issue.  I hope someone can help.

Yes it was happening before the logicboard was replaced.  I'm up to date with Flash and Software Updates too.  Macbook can handle everything but Flash content.  So I assume its related to some kind of incompatability.  Not sure though.  I have come across others who have the same issue.
Ok, dumb question on my part, but did any of those others find a solution? If not, what have they, and you, tried? If you don't mind, posting a link to content which causes this might be helpful (I don't watch a lot of Flash-based video, but I've never had an issue like that on my early 2008/less able MBP . . .).

  • MacBook Pro Retina Fan Issues

    Hi,
I bought a macBook Pro Retina just under a month ago, and have been experiencing some issues with the fan speeds.
I can be just browsing the web or checking emails or playing music through iTunes, and the fans will spin up to full speed for a minute or so, and then return to normal.
I have reset the SMC, the PRAM and repaired the Disk and Disk Permissions, with no luck, I've also tried a full format and reinstall with no luck either.
I have seen that others have been experiencing similar issues, and wanted to get some advice on where I can go from here.
Attached below is a Screen Grab of my temps and fan speeds. The fans were at normal speed for a few minutes, then went up to a high speed, back down and then back up again, and kept repeating.
    Thanks in advance,
    James.

    Hi all,
I got a call from apple yesterday to say that the screws for my machine were in, and that they had got a response from engineering about the fans, they said that the fan speeds were normal and there was nothing to worry about.
I don't think that this is the case, as I have never owned any other computer that has done this under normal operation.
It also worries me that while some of you have got their machines replaced, others have been told there is nothing to worry about.
When you pay upwards of £1800 you dont expect to be finding these problems, and if you do, a replacement should be provided without question.
If anyone else has a different outcome after taking their machine in to the apple store, let us all know on this thread.
    Thanks,
    James.
