My Macbook Pro screen is completely smashed up! What can/should I do?

I dropped my Macbook Pro and the screen is completely smashed up. Glass not shattered but display is white with some colour markings - completely unuseable. Some denting to metal case. What is my next step? I have Apple Care and I'm within my one year warranty, but this damage is clearly inflicted by a third party, not the result of a manufacturing error. What should I do? I'm terrified: any idea of price/who can repair/how long it will take to repair will be hugely appreciated.

Take it to Apple and see what they say. If you're in the US, they can ship it to the Apple depot for repair, which is less expensive than an in-store repair. We had a system sent to the Apple depot for repair, and as I recall the repair took 3 or 4 days, from drop off at the store to being returned to the store.

  • My macbook pro screen flickers and crashes computer - what is the problem

All of a sudden my macbook pro computer screen started flickering.  Once this happens the computer freezes and it needs manual reboothing.  Sometimes it comes back, buy it requires several reboothing attempts to get it going.  What could be the problem, and how to fix it.

The proper diagnosis and fix will found at an Apple store genius bar. It is a GPU, display or display connection issue.

  • My MacBook Pro has become unbearably slow. What can I do to get it back to its normal (peak) performance?

When I originally purchased my MacBook Pro a few years ago, it was blazing fast. Since then the reaction time of the CPU has gotten progressively worse to the point where the laptop is virtually unusable. Windows are laggy and slow to load. Apps will become unresponsive for apparently no reason. Nothing seems to make it better. I cannot pick out a specific time or event that may have acted as a catalyst for this loss in performance. Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thanks,

Hello, I'm having a problem with my mac's speed as well, though I don't think it is memory that's causing it.
It's brand new, late 2011 , has had os x lion from the get go. currently have version 10.7.2
    Free space 474.69 GB
    free RAM 1.65 GB
It takes about 10 mintues from turning on to get to my desktop screen, and the little pinwheel comes up constantly when trying to open an app.  typing lags for 5-6 seconds when i type one letter, and the internet alternates from moderate speed to showing lots of pinwheel spinning.  It also takes 3-5 minutes to turn off when before it used to be seconds.  When it falls 'asleep', it often doesn't wake up, at least not for a few minutes.
I tried safe boot, but i didn't see any difference in speed when i restarted.
I tried resetting the PRAM, no difference
    I then tried command R for the disk utility, and i believe i clicked on repair permissions for the hard drive (the one that said macintosh Hd);
it ended up displaying "open error messages"- that mentioned AirPort Utility and various font names. Despite saying the the repair had less than a minute, it stayed on this screen for a good 30-40 min until i was fed up and shut it down
I really don't know what else could have done this; the only other thing i downloaded was realplayer sp, but I got rid of it all and everything i downloaded with it. I don't have any huge programs like photoshop either. I don't have any other users created aside from just me.
    please help.

  • Macbook pro trackpad won't click.  What can I do?

About 3 months ago, my trackpad on my Macbook Pro 2009 lost the ability to click.  I could not physically press it down.  Then about 1 month ago, it was being very funky and acting erratic, so I took it into the apple store and they told me I needed  to replace the trackpad.  Rather than paying the $100 for them to do it, I ordered the parts online and replaced it myself.  The trackpad is no longer erratic and works great that way, but I am still unable to click.  I adjusted the small screw under the trackpad to make it very loose, but it still will not push down.  Any suggestions or tips on what I can do to trouble shoot or solve this problem?

    Tried resetting PRAM and SMC?
    Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
System Preferences > Trackpad > Tap to click
Uncheck and recheck the box beside.
    Battery works fine?
    Best.

When i insert my normal Samsung SD card (32Gb) it initiate with no problem... i have some pics on this card that i don't wanna loose, what can i do to fix it?

Check and see if it's under warranty.
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If it is, take it to the Apple store, they'll run diagnostics and replace the battery if necessary.
If it's not under warranty and/or passes diagnostics, you may have software issue that's draining your battery, which could be solved by finding and removing the software. But I'd start with the warranty.

  • I have some problems with my battery of macbook pro 13", the mac doesnt work, what can i do to solve this?

My mac does not work, i have problems with the battery, what can i do to solve this, can it run without battery?

Desktop Systems use large capacitors in their power supplies to smooth out fluctuations in the supplied power, to avoid having power fluctuations damage the computer.
NoteBook computers use the battery to do this job. It is not a good idea to run it without a battery in place, because this allows fluctuations in supplied power to go directly into the computer without buffering. This may cause damage.
Apple has lowered prices on many battery replacements to around the US$150 range. The quality of third-party batteries varies widely, but they must generally be cheaper than that (or no one would buy them).

  • My itouch screen is completely smashed.by mistake it falls on the floor my question is dat at what cost apple repair this..?

My itouch screen is completely smashed. At what price apple repair dis

If Apple determines that an iPod is not repairable, for example, if it has failed due catastrophic damage or the iPod has been disassembled into multiple pieces, then Out-of-Warranty Service is not available and the iPod will be returned. Please see Apple's Repair Terms And Conditions for further details.
    Otherwise,
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs. They do not fix yours.

  • I keep on getting this error when i try to copy files to my 2T Time Capsule, Please help im running out of space on my MacBook Pro.... The operation can't be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

I keep on getting this error when i try to copy files to my 2T Time Capsule, Please help im running out of space on my MacBook Pro....
The operation can’t be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)

I would get an external drive today and copy all your stuff off the TC.. forget trying to load more onto it. There is a good chance after 3years (A 2TB should be only about 2years tops), the disk or the TC itself is on the way out. Do it immediately. If TM is also failing to backup you need to recognise symtoms of impending doom.
Unfortunately the error messages are archane and it is hard to discover their meaning.
You also cannot verify a network drive.. you can verify the TM sparsebundle though so do that.
    A5. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
Reboot the whole network from off.. certainly if you run later OS it can simply lose the drive..
If you still fail to be able to copy to the TC.. then get that external and copy off it. Tell us if you can do that.

  • Translucent impromptu possible "hacker" message interrupts current session, locks MacBook Pro screen and demands that I restart by holding down the power button of my LapTop to turn it off first. Any thought? Could this be another way to mess with us?

I was listening to a YouTube video on the history of X15 rocket airplanes. All of sudden, out of the blue a translucent back message drops top down, stops the video, locks up my MacBook Pro screen and demands that I restart my lapTop by first holding down my power switch, then turn the lapTop back on. This has never happened to me before. The message was in black & white, and in about 6 languages: English, French, Spanish, Dutch, Japanese, Chinese. Does any one recognize what this might be?
The Computer turned back on just fine as if nothing had Now I am freeking out that they could be reading my key strokes or something. Could they have used this tactic to install malicious software on my computer by first taking away my ability to do anything about it being that I am not a software engineer? Can any one think of anything simillar? I reported this as a bug to APPLE the regular way, then cleared my Safari cookies, then run software update which returned nothing new as in " your software is up to date at this time."
    Can any one please help?

    Hi stedman1,
Thank you so much. This seems to make sense to me now. I was freaking out a bit that some hacker could be messing with my MacBook Pro. I will be monitoring this issue from now on as it has never happened before.

  • Cleaning MacBook Pro screens

Does anyone know if it is safe to use Kensington's Screen Guardian to clean a MacBook Pro screen? The product contains: Water, 2-Butoxyethanol and Ethanol. Also can this cleaner be used on an iMac and a iPod Touch screens. Thanks for your help.

Apple recommends against using any cleaner with alcohol or ammonia to clean any LCD screen. Those chemicals may damage the screen coating. The best way to clean a laptop screen is to use a microfiber wipe (such as those sold to clean eyeglasses) or a damp ( not wet) soft lint-free cloth. For more information, see:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3226
Butyl cellusolve, a component of Screen Guardian (according to their material safety data sheet), is neurotoxic among other toxicities, by the way, so I'd avoid it even if it weren't risky on LCDs.
    Regards.

  • Comparing MacBook Pro screen with Intel iMac

I'm wondering if anyone here that has a MacBook Pro has had a chance to compare its quality to another mac's screen. I've been working on trying to colour-calibrate my MacBook Pro using SuperCal, and I've noticed that the colour on the MacBook Pro is nowhere near as nice as on the intel iMac.
Obviously expecting a laptop screen to look as good as the larger iMacs is a bit much, but I was still very surprised at the difference in quality.
    Anyone else noticed this?

The MacBook Pro screen is not as bright or vibrant as any plug-in type LCD I've compared it to.
However, it is much nicer than any of my previous laptops (including an Aluminum Powerbook G4). It is significantly brighter, with somewhat better color.
It would be nice if the laptop had a better backlight that could turn on when plugged in, but that's probably up there with my wish for a 2nd processor that would turn on during plug-in as well...
    Cheers,
    Josh

  • Macbook pro screen dims after waking from sleep?

Does anyone know why my macbook pro screen dims when waking from sleep or waking from my screen saver? I can't get it to stop doing this. Thanks.

It sounds like I have the same thing happening. It's more like the colors are washed out, like there is less contrast. I have a hot corner set up for my screen saver. Once I activate the screen saver for a second and then deactivate it, the Macbook screen goes back to normal. I have a 30" Samsung 305T monitor set up as a second (main) screen for when I'm working at home, which is most of the time. I haven't had it unplugged from the Macbook since this started, so I don't know if it happens by itself. I do know that the Samsung looks fine when waking up from the screen saver at the same time.
I tried to find others with this problem in this forum, but got tired of looking through all the other posts that had nothing to do with this problem.
    Can anyone help us?
