My Macbook Will Not Shut Down due to Itunes not closing.

I updated my iphone5 on itunes a couple weeks ago and made some changes in the settings and then I pressed apply and then it started backing up my iphone, after waiting quite sometime I clicked cancel backup. But it did not really cancel because I have had that message for a couple weeks now and I can not even close itunes or shut down my computer because the error message, " iTunes cannot quit because it is updating the software on the iPhone”. Can someone please help me as Itunes running and doing this all the time has been draining my battery and causing it to run slow?
Thanks

Hold the start button till the Mac does a hard shutdown. ( it may take 15 -30 seconds) Then restart while holding the shift key down to start in safe mode. This can take some time (1 min or so ) so don't let up on the shift key till you see a progress bar at the bottom of the screen. This way the Mac runs some file check routines that may fix your problem

  • T400 Not shutting down due to driver error.

    Hello!
I have recently purchased a refurbished IBM ThinkPad T400 (TYPE: 2767 DM9). The laptop came shipped with Windows XP SP2 Professional 32 Bit; originally in great working condition. However, I had it upgraded to Windows 7 SP1 32Bit Professional (Clean installation) so as to run my applications on Windows 7 platform. My machine works in an overall great condition except the fact that I am not able to install some missing drivers.
I tried looking for driver support at Lenovo but unfortunately, it displays a list of drivers that are not exactly needed by my system - the driver martix at lenovo is somewhat not reflecting exact drivers for my system. When I try and look intot the device manager, there is a unknown device found for which, I even tried windows search for driver update but all in vain.
There is a SIM slot in the battery pack module not sure what it is or what it does. Perhaps there is an LED next to my WiFi LED indicator that is not turning up. I have installed rest all other drivers but somehow, something is missing and not sure what! I even did a system update through system upgrade but that didn't help either.
When I try to shut down my system, it hangs and gets heated where in, I have to manually force the application to close and then only, system would shut down.
    System details:
    IBM ThinkPad T400 Type: 2767 DM9
    OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 32Bit SP1
    RAM: 2GB
    HDD: 160GB
    Video: ATI Radeon
I would be really glad if some one can be of any help in this forum.

There is a definite device conflict/driver missing on the system due to which, system is hanging up during shutdown. Unfortunately, lenovo doesn't support a utility to download the exact device drivers based on the model number - it rather lists a dreadful list of device drivers which aren't even meant for my for system. For instance, the list for my Wireless WAN goes like this...
Lenovo Mobile Broadband Activation (Ericsson F3507g, Qualcomm Gobi1000, Qualcomm Gobi2000) for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
    Qualcomm HS-USB Wireless WAN (UNDP) driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit) , Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) and XP
Qualcomm HS-USB Wireless WAN (UNDP) for Gobi 1000 NV Updater Tool for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Windows 7 Mobile Broadband, Vista (32-bit, 64-bit) and XP
Now, how the hell would I know which is meant for my system? And this happened even after selecting my exact system which is T400 Type 2767 DM9.

  • MacBook Pro keeps shutting down when the screen is closed

Hi, I have a 2011 15inch MacBook Pro and it keeps shutting down rather than sleeping when I shut the screen. It also shuts down when left for short periods of time rather than sleeping. I have updated it yesterday and still the problem happens. I also installed a virus check to see if that was the problem and it didnt find anything it could fix! Any help is much appreciated!!!

Try a SMC reset.  That may correct the situation.

  • Can not sync files due to itunes not being able to find orginal file

I have purchased these songs and video from apple on previous computer and have not had trouble until recently I believe it occured when i went to ver. 9. I have a touch and nano and these files that are on touch will not go to nano. I am afraid i will lose these if something happens to touch. It says it wil not sync with the touch also on 100 songs.

Was the iPod previous synced to another iTunes library/computer?
Have you successfully synced from this iTunes library/computer before?
Do the songs play in iTunes?
Do you have the right boxes checked to sync?
iTunes: Syncing media content to iOS devices and iPod
Do you have any Restrictions (Settings>General>Restrictions) set that would prevent syncing those songs?

  • My computer will randomly shut down.

Hello. I am using a 2006 model macbook pro, running 10.6.8 OS X. My Computer will randomly shut down with no prompt or closing any programs, as if someone held down the power button. When i go to the console application and look under system.log the last message i recieve before my computer shuts down is this:
    Dec  8 22:10:44 kieran-hooks-computer [0x0-0x16016].com.apple.appstore[170]: This isn't a bitmap context. Forcing destination format to ARGB_8 for CGContext.
this message is repeated over 15 times in a few seconds. I know quite a bit about computers so dont be afraid to get technical.
    please help,
                   -Kieran Hook

I know that it only does this when I do something computer intensive. And also the fans run 6000rpm constantly from startup.

MacBook Pro just shut down without notice. It had about 40% of the battery life. It will not turn back on and I noticed when plugged in the little light on the power cord is blinking orange, not a solid green like normal.  Anyone have this issue before?  I've only had this for about 3mos.  I called apple support. They tried one thing then said I have to take to the apple store. Unfortunately I don't have one nearby. So before I travel an hour+ away I thought is give it a shot on here. Thank.

    Hi S,
Did they have you try an SMC Reset: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964?

  • MacBook Pro will not shut down

A principal at my district has a MacBook Pro 15-inch Early 2008 (2.4/2X1GB/200-5400/256VRAM/AG) running OS 10.5.8 that will not shut down. When shut down is chosen, the computer restarts instead of shutting down. It does not matter how shut down is chosen, whether it is from pull down menu, keyboard command, click on shutdown in the login menu, etc. I have tried resetting PRAM, SMC, starting up from a known good system, and run diagnostics applications (which turn up no problems). The only way to get the machine to tunr off is hold the power button down until it shuts off.
The user complains it also gets very hot when he leaves it sitting open in sleep mode. I have not observed that particular symptom. It also tend to run down the battery faster than it should (battery check shows it to have 80+% of it's original capacity.) But Activity Monitor does not show any unusual activity.
Any suggestions what I can try next to figure this thing out?
    Thanks.

On occassion (like tonight) my MacBook Pro will not
shut down - even when I attempt to force quit. Any
    suggestions?
Happens here too, but very rarely. In my case it mostly happens late at night when OS X is supposed to run some internal maintenance jobs, maybe some of them do not allow a shutdown?
Does holding the power button down for approx. 10 seconds work? If yes, then I would not worry about it. If no, there is something seriously odd and I would report it to AppleCare.
    Cheers,
    Uwe

  • MacBook - bluetooth doesn't work and system will not shut down

    Hi all together!
I have a problem with my MacBook with the newest updated Tiger 10.4.11: First the bluetooth went off and after using the hardware test the system sayed "no hardware problems". After this I recreated my system with the original MacOS-CD. It shut down properly but the bluetooth still didn't work (Meanwhile I've bought one of that 10 EURO external mini bluetooth adapter and it works). After updating, it did not shut down again and showed that bad "circle turning string thing". Then it went blue and nothing else happened. Sometimes it shuts down regularly but the most times I have to use the button for 5s. I don't think that's healthy for the computer. It seems that no one of my friends knows why this happens.
    Greetings

Well, I can't guess for how long it has been like this. Don't take responsibility for something that isn't your fault, even if it is your friend's system. I wont. Should it be your fault I hope you tell us what measures you did trying to help.
Say what PSU you got. Model and name and specs. please.
The only case-to-motherboard connections you really need is  Power. Start with getting that right according to motherboard and case manuals. You will probably not be able to see the text printed on motherboard about pin setting. And guessing will be of little help here. If you know what case it is Internet is your friend.

  • New Macbook Pro will not shut down.

    Hi,
So I just got a new Macbook Pro four days ago from the Apple store and I'm already running into a little bit of trouble, that being my macbook will not shut down. Once I open the shut down window, the normal countdown that comes with it usually will not appear and I am incapable of clicking the shut down button. I have not downloaded anything onto my mac besides Microsoft Silverlight, Adobe Flashplayer, and a pdf document of my receipt from the apple store. I have burned some of my music CDs into itunes and browsed the web (nothing fishy; just some shopping, movie streaming from netflix and youtube, and reading articles online published by universities). Should I take the computer to the Apple store or is this something I can fix on my own?
    Thanks so much

If I were you I'd take it back to the Apple store and let someone at the Genius Bar take a look at it. The worst case is you made an extra trip, but at least this way you can exchange it immediately if there's a problem. You only have a 14 day window for this, might as well take advantage of it.
The only other thing I can suggest is to open the Force Quit option from the Apple icon in the upper left corner. See if there are any apps that show Not Responding. If there are any like that, force quit them then try to shut down.

  • MacBook will not Shut Down or Restart

My MacBook will not shut down or restart from the apple menu, nor from any other dialog box that pops up, after an update, for instance. The only way I can turn it off/restart is by using the power button. I have tried archiving and installing OS X, but I am still having this problem. Does anybody know how to fix this?

    Hi Henry,
    Help here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303319
Second, make sure you have all your updates. Click the Apple logo in the Menu then click Software Updates.
Reset PRAM by holding option-command-P-R keys down during startup until you hear the chime at least three or four times.
Resetting the PRAM is a standard procedure for the problem you are experiencing.
Also, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. DU is located here:
Applications/Utilities. Launch DU, select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, then click Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU and reboot.
If you need further assistance, please post back.

  • MacBook Pro 2013 will not shut down without restarting.

I got a macbook pro a month ago and it will not shut down without pressing down on the power button. Using the normal Shut down options only restarts the computer. I have done all the disk utility repairs, installed new mountain lion, reset the PRAM several times, and ran software repair from doing the shutdown hold D. I also checked to see if the PRAM is good, and it is Ok in systems utilities. It will also restart when i have not touched the computer for 10 or so minutes and will go to locked user log in.
I really don't know what else to do. If you need more details let me know. Any advice?
    Thanks

    Thanks!
I tried this and discovered something new. I noticed that if the computer is charging while shutdown, the computer will still restart. However, if the computer is charging and you shutdown, then unplug the charger, it will remain off. It will also resume normal shut down and sleep if you shut down while unplugged, now. An idea why it will still restard while plugged in though? If not i very much appreciate your help so far!

Have you tried holding the power button down for several seconds? I would try the force quit as mentioned earlier first, or go to the Activity Monitor in Applications>Utilities and try force quit there.
