My messages take up 5.2 gb of storage! When i delete all of my conversations, my phone freezes, i restart and they are ALL back.

How can i just delete all of my messages for good without my phone freezing and bringing them back?

How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If this does not work, use iTunes to set it back to factory settings, which would also install the latest software:
