My new computer is "offline" to Aperture

I bought a new laptop to replace a previous one. I used Migration Manager. All the photo files and the Aperture Library are where they previously were. I renamed the HD on the new computer to match that of the old. I am the same user name and password.
But Aperture is constantly telling me that my HD (of the exact same name) is offline and I cannot do anything with the photos that I click on. Please help.
I "rebuilt the library" which was something I learned here. Still the same.

I had the same problem after migrating my library to a new laptop. The steps below are a little techy but worked for me.
Solution was:
1. Choose one of your offline photos and manually reconnect it using File --> Manage Referenced Files. Make a note of it's file name.
2. Using TextWrangler and the instructions here http://www.bagelturf.com/files/97660a1a1ba5b7f45c1d43b34dbce327-812.html find the diskUuid of your old hard drive and the diskUuid of your new hard drive. (The photo you manually changed in step 1has the new diskUuid.)
3. Do a search and replace swapping the old for the new.
4. Re-open Aperture while holding down option and command.
5. Choose rebuild Library when prompted.
6. Wait.
7. Rejoice in recovered library without having to manually reconnect tens of thousands of images...

  • Copy images to new computer, but keep settings in Aperture - How?

My subject pretty much sums it up. I have two computers running aperture. I want to copy my images & adjustments made in Aperture, to the new computer while keeping the adjustments & ratings, etc.
    Here's the goal:
    1. Download images to my computer for backup.
    2. Copy images to External Hard Drive for Computer #2.
    3. Let assistant edit/rate photos on Computer #2.
    4. When done, copy adjustments/ratings/photos to Computer #1.
    How do I do this?
    Thanks,
    Josh
PS. I tried just copying the referenced files to Computer #2, but it didn't keep the settings.

In that case, if you have 2 machines, here's what I'd recommend:
On the machine you're using for remote shoots, use a managed library (keep the shots in Aperture). On the weekly basis, export the projects from the wedding(s) you shoot in their entirety. Import them to the other machine, and at that point convert to a referenced library.
I don't do weddings but I shoot landscape and this is how I handle managing my shots between the MacBook Pro I travel with, and the Quad G5 I use in the office.

  • Advice for moving to, and updating Aperture on, new computer?

I am moving to a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display, from a 6-year-old MacBook Pro. I'm looking for tips to make the transition smoother.
I will be upgrading to the newest version of Aperture. I currently have Aperture 3.4.5. Everything is all on my laptop. The Aperture file is 938 MB, and is SLOW! It's barely usable as it is.
I will be using TimeCapsule to transfer files. My current OS is 10.7.5.
Should I update Aperture before I move it? Should I move it, and then update it? Should I (somehow!) "disconnect" the files from the program and then reconnect them after they are transferred?
I'd like to make this transition as painless as possible!
Thanks for any advice you can give me.

    1. You can't update Aperture past 3.4.5 from 10.8.5 or earlier. You need to move it and then perform the update.
    2. See #1.
    3. No. Just keep a backup of them.
    4. If you got Aperture from a DVD and the new computer's running Yosemite, you'll probably need to contact Apple to perform the update.

  • Aperture vaults - setting up new computer with vault

    Hi there.
I have a MacBook with a large aperture vault on a separate hard drive. I have now bought a new iMac. Can I use the vault from my Macbook to set up all my photos on my new machine, thereby saving me hours of work. HELP
    Di from Devon

Yes, you can restore Aperture to another Mac from a Vault. Just do not expect it to be quick.
    -Allen Wicks
    From the manual:
    Restoring Your Aperture System
If you buy a new computer or use another system at a different location and want
access to the Aperture library, you can install Aperture and then transfer the library
from your vault (on your backup disk) to the other computer. If you experience
equipment failure or other unexpected events, such as fire or weather-related damage
to your equipment, you can easily restore the entire library to your new computer from
    a backup disk.
To restore the entire library from an external backup disk:
1 Connect the hard disk drive that contains the most up-to-date vault to your computer
    and open Aperture.
2 Choose File > Vault > Restore Library.
    The Restore Library dialog appears.
3 Choose Select Source Vault from the Source Vault pop-up menu.
4 Navigate to the vault from which you want to restore, then click Select.
5 Choose Select Destination from the Library Destination pop-up menu.
6 Navigate to the location where you want to place the library, then click Select.
7 Click Restore, then click Restore again.

  • Help..need an Aperture 2 serial number to access my library on new computer

I just bought a new computer and have migrated my files but cannot access my Aperture application or library because it is asking for my original Aperture serial number. I have my Aperture 3 upgrade serial number but it wants the original Aperture 2 serial number which I didn't save. I called the Apple store and they said any Aperture 2 serial number will work. does anyone have an Aperture 2 serial number which I could use? I would so appreciate it. I'm in despair/disbelief over this.

    Welcome to the Aperture forum
Hmmmm I tend to think carolya that no-one will be prepared to surrender their Aperture 2 serial number somehow....
If you have Aperture 2 already, as you say you have.... then the original serial number is on the back of the cardboard box that it came in....

  • Install Aperture on new computer

I converted my Trial copy of Aperture to a full license on an old computer and now want to transfer that to a new one. As far as I can tell, there are no "trial" copies in downlads and the upgrade downloads don't work unless it's already installed on the computer. I beleive I downloaded Aperture 2 Trial, but it's no longer available.
How can I move to my new computer?

Try if this download link for the trial version still works: if yes, you can unlock it with your serial number from the boxed version:

  • Aperture reinstallation on new computer

How does one download Aperture (already purchased online for old computer, i.e. no installation disc available) onto a new computer?

    What version?
I think (not certain) you can just download the trial, then pop in the serial number (or registration code, or whatever phrasing Apple uses) -- Apple - Aperture - Download a 30-day trial of Aperture 3

  • Deactivating Aperture for installation in a new computer

I'm getting a new computer and don't want to loose my Aperture. Is there a way to deactivate in the old computer and then reinstall in the new one?

When you set up your new computer, you will be given the option to automatically migrate your files to it. This will move all of your documents, photos, applications etc. to the new machine, and when it finishes you should be able to just start up Aperture and all of your photos will be there.

  • How do I update Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 and Adobe Premiere Elements 9 on a new computer?

I have previously used both Adobe Photoshop elements 9 and Adobe Premiere elements 9 on my old computer with Windows XP operating system without problems. Now I have a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit operating system.  I have installed both programs but when I try to update them I get a message saying "The update server is not responding.  The server might be offline temporarily or the internet or firewall setting may be incorrect.  Please try again later." I have tried numerous times with the same result.  I have tried uninstalling both programs and re-installing but still get the same message.  What do I have to do to be able to update these programs so I can get on and use them? The information with the programs says they both work on both Windows XP and 7.

  • Moved to a new computer running windows 7. what happened to the bookmark sidebar? how do I get it back? How do I move my bookmarks from old computer to new computer?

new computer, loaded Firefox 4. What happened to bookmark sidebar? How do I get it back? How do I move my bookmarks from old computer to new computer?
old computer is offline, so if I have to make a copy of something hopefully it can be done offline.
Don't really understand why windows 7 renders Firefox so different that XP. Will change, but really like the old feel.

  • Transferring Photos to a New Computer

I just bought a new computer and I want to transfer photos from my old computer. There are many projects and albums from my aperture library I want to transfer over, however not all of them, so I don't want to transfer the whole library. What is the best way to do this?
    Thanks!

You can export a part of your Aperture library a s a new library and then use that library on your new computer.
It wil help to avoid permission problems to be using exacly the same user name on both macs. Have you set up your macs to use the same account names?
How can you transfer files between your machines? Do both your macs have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports? Then connect them with a FireWire or Thunderbolt cable and boot your new computer in Target Mode - this way your old Mac will see the new Mac as an external disk. See: OS X Lion: Transfer files between two computers using target disk mode
Or simply connect an external disk or thumbsdrive to your old mac (formatted MacOS X Extended Journaled and with the "Ignore Ownership on this Volume" flag enabled). Then export a partial library to that disk. I would not use the network, to avoid transmission errors., unless your library is small.
To export only the projects and albums that you want to transfer:
To be sure not to transfer any potential library corruption, repair the permisions and repair the database before you proceed, see: Repairing and Rebuilding Your Aperture Library: Aperture 3 User Manual
Select all projects and albums at the same time in the library Inspector panel. You may want to create a folder and collect all items there that you want to export; then select this folder.
Now use the command "File > Export> Library" to export the folder with images as a new Aperture library to the external drive or directly to the new computer, if you used Target Disk Mode.
If your libary is managed and all original files are included, you are done, but otherwise, you will need to copy the original files as well. Then open the copied library in Aperture - still on your old mac, and select all referenced images. Use the command "File > Consolidate images" and chose to copy (not move) the referenced files into the Aperture library.
Now test the copied library, if it is working well, and if it is on an external drive, dismount/eject  the drive and connect it to your new mac. Copy the library from the external drive to your new mac by dragging it in the Fider.
On your new mac launch Aperture with the ⎇⌘-key held down, while double-clicking the new Aperture library and select "Repair Permissions" from the First Aid panel, to make you the owner of all items in the library.
Post back, if there are any problems with this procedure. Good luck.

  • New computer, itunes 7 trouble, music saved on dvd--how to get it to work?

I bought a new computer. On the prior computer had itunes 6. The music was saved on a data DVD, and it is also still on the ipod. New computer, installed itunes 7 and the same problems others had-- freezing and locking. Have yet to be able to put music on new computer.
Much time spent. Uninstalled itunes 7 and reinstalled 6. Still with freezing. Uninstalled 6 and quick time and prior to that delelted ith .itl file. reinstalled 6. Was able to load a music cd into the library,as a trial, and it loaded. HOwever, when I tried the data dvd to reinstall the library, froze again. Currently have unistalled itunes, QT, and cant find andy ipooder update. I have a new itunes folder with itunes music library, itunes library.itl and and itunes music file in it. Within this file was the trial music (and therefore is a back up).
    1) any ideas on what to do to get itunes 6 running (and right). No itunes 7 for me until all the other problems figured out.
    2) if no answer to 1), is there a way to comtact tech suport at apple to get help. I cant even find that.
    Thanks
Im running windows xp an a gateway with computer associates security.

Sounds like a part of a plan. However:
1.Should itunes work so I can use by CD/DVD
drive--and how should I set up my itunes 6 so that it
    does work.
    2. Along the same line, since I dont have any music
on my computer yet that I need to save or protect,
and considering all the hassles I (and everyone) has
had so far, any suggestions on what steps to take?
    Thanks
Dale I'm not sure I understand your questions. I'll respond with what I think you may be asking.
It should not make any difference if iTunes is installed and working in order to transfer files from your DVD to your hard drive.
First create a new folder on your main drive and give it a name. Then put your DVD in your drive. In My Computer right click on the drive your DVD is in and chose Open or Explore. You should now see all the files that are on your DVD. At the top of this window select Edit and in the drop down menu click Select. All the files will highlight. Select Edit again and click Copy this time.
Now go to the folder you created on your main drive. Right click on it and select Paste. All the files from your DVD should now transfer into the new folder you created. Depending on how many they are it may take a bit.
I don't know what format these files are in as you never made any mention of that. If they were iTunes protected format you won't be able to use them without iTunes. If they are MP3 you should be able to play them using any player that is installed on your system that plays MP3 format.
If these files were your entire iTunes Library before let me know.
Sorry it took so long to reply. I was in the mist of a reformat and was offline for a bit.
    Hope that helps.
