My phone does not recogise it's carrier (Telecom NZ) after 10 days out of the country.  What can I do about this?

Hi,
I've just returned to NZ after a 10 day holiday.  I switched my iPhone (4S) on whilst overseas to check time, etc.  Now that I am back on home ground it won't recognise my NZ 'home' carrier (Telecom NZ).  Can you please tell me how to fix this?
Thank you - bex.h
