My Skype Timezone is WRONG!!!!!!!!! (angry)

Ok, so... ... I know there's been a lot of timezone posts, but most of them were windows and I couldn't be bothered to trawl. Sorry if this is a duplicate.
FYI, I'm running Ubuntu Trusty (14.04) LTS.
My craptop timezone is always right. It's set by GPS+Internet so I never have to set it manually. So it's not that. I think I either put GMT+1 when I signed up (should just be GMT/GMT+0), or it could be that daylight saving isn't on/off whatever. The time when I was chatting with somebody in Samos, Greece was 20:14 (craptop time). They are on GMT+2. So they should be 22:14 right? Well their time was showing as only 21:14. So that would make my time 19:14. It's an hour out somehow.

Have the same problem, time displayed is 1 hour off, sounds trivial but whenever i check my friends' status i get kind of mind twitch when i see that wrong time.....annoying it can't be fixed!

Default timezone is wrong!

On one computer in our development shop, java's notion of time is one hour behind. It seems that Java gets the wrong default timezone for that machine, and I can't for the life of me figure out why.
All machines are running java 1.4.2_03 on WinXP SP1 with all latest updates as of 5/25/04. In the Windows Date/Time control panel on all machines, timezone is set to "(GMT-0:800) Pacific Time (US & Canada); Tijuana" and the "Automatically Adjust for Daylight Savings Time" box is checked. It is May May 26, so daylight savings time is in effect. The Windows clock in the lower right corner reads the same time on all machines.
Running the code:

Tried setting timezone to Tokyo (which does not observer daylight savings time), then back to Pacific. Problem still present. Tried setting to Mountian time zine (which does observer daylight saving) and back - problem still present.
One interesting thing: on the "bad" machine, java always shows the timezone in the generic GMT +/- offset format. On a good machine, java is able to translate into the "America/Los_Angeles" format. Just to check, I explicly set the timezone on the bad machine (with TimeZone.setDefault(TimeZone.getTimeZone("America/Los_Angeles")); and then the bad machine does display the correct time and timezone.
So, somehow it is not able to use what it gets back from Windows to correctly look up the "America/Los_Angeles" style timezone, so it falls back to the GMT+-offset format.
I verified that the java installations are identical on all machines (I zipped up the one on the bad machine, and did a file-by-file byte compare to one on a good machine).

Skype to go wrong number

Whenever I dial a skype-to-go number the call is never made and skype says that I have the wrong number. How do I fix this?

you are only supposed to call SkypeToGo numbers from landlines or mobile phones, never using Skype

I can't buy Angry Birds Space on my Lumia 610, alt...

I don't know whose policy is this, but we can't use Skype anymore on 610, Angry Birds Space doesn't let me buy it, due to low ram memory, although i have install it and play it without any problems and Smartglass can't be installed at all. Thank you Microsoft and Nokia for showing us how much you care for low-ended smartphone users.

Nokia only makes the hardware. Perhaps you should direct your queries to Microsoft, Rovio and the developers of Smartglass.

[SOLVED] yaourt skype issues

Hi all,
When I issued "pacman -Syu" it also upgraded skype from 2.0 to 2.1 beta. Sadly, skype doesn't work anymore.
Therefore I tried downgrading the package. I searched for the package and found it: http://arm.kh.nu/community/os/i686/skyp … pkg.tar.gz.
I then did:
yaourt skype-2.0.0.72-2.pkg.tar.gz
It installed without a problem, but when I input "skype" in my terminal, it gives me:
bash: /usr/bin/skype: No such file or directory
However, ls -al /usr/bin/skype gave me:
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13859316 2008-06-22 14:31 /usr/bin/skype
What's wrong here?

Running 32 bit executable on 64bit is not just as simple. 32bit compiled binary will not work on x86_64 system without 32bit libs.

Timezone information messages

We are on PI 7.31 (SP9) dual stack and when I look at logviewer, I see the following information messages at regular intervals
SAPTimeZone Log Info: Action: CreateSAPTimeZone. Reason: Timezone xxxx not found
SAPTimeZone Log Info: Action: getTimeZoneABAPOrJava. Reason: Timezone xxxx
SAPTimeZone Log Info: Action: getTimeZoneABAPOrJava. Reason: Timezone xxxx mapped to CST
There are hundreds of such messages every few minutes.. I know that the following note 1604058 made this an information message.
1) I am trying to figure out if we need to take any action on such information messages? Does this message mean that timezones are not being maintained?
2) If this information message has no functional meaning, how do I ensure that it does not fill my logviewer? I noticed that Log configurator is set to 'Error' for Tracing Location com.sap.i18n.SAPTimeZoneInfo.

Nokia 3120 classic (message received time is wrong...

Hi.. got some problems with my nokia 3120 classic. I bought my fone 2 wks ago and decide to upgrade my fone to new firmware version which is 7.16, after the fone was updated i noticed that whenever i received txt messages, the received time is wrong.. it is i think 8 hrs late.. I'm txting my friends and when they reply, the received time display is wrong. Is this a bug for the new version? It's not synchronizing in my phone clock. Of course my phone clock is ok.. Message sent time is ok but the received time is wrong. Any suggestions? Pls help..

ok.. i've figured out already the problem. it's not on the software update but it is due to the GMT. i noticed that even your dates and time are correct, you must set your correct timezone from what country you were. if the auto update time and date is on, i think it varies on the timezone u set on ur fone so if your timezone is wrong, the message receive time is wrong too. well i already solved this.

Can't login to Skype

Hello support team, for over 6 months each time I want to login to skype is says wrong password. I update the microsoft password, and can login without a problem, THEN I try to login to skype using the microsoft loging that is working...and it says again Invalid Credentials!!!
your system is not synicning or updating. too much trouble... deficient service. I am forced to choose other calling services that work better.

I'm having the same problem: 3 different computers/tablets won't allow me to log into Skype, using my Microsoft account. This tablet I'm using currently only allows me to use the Skype app and thus to sign in with my Microsoft Account (that I had to create specifically to use the Skype app in the past: what a way to force customers to use Microsoft). I'm truly frustrated by now. I don't feel like attempting hours every night to get onto Skype. I did everything that has been indicated in the several posts in which customers complain about exactly the same thing: that they can't log into Skype using their Microsoft Account (minor glitch Skype/Microsoft? Time to fix it perhaps?) I restored my internet explorer settings; I deleted temporary files; I tried changing my password: all to no avail. Just, why did Microsoft have put their hands on Skype when it functioned just fine before they did. For once I don't want to spend days trying to use one of their services (and trying to use my Skype credit, plus numbers that I paid for). I had Microsoft accounts years ago into which miraculously I could not sign in anymore one day - and could not for years and customers service did nada, and back then I swore to myself to not use their service anymore. Now here I'm again. (Don't mind I'm posting from a Microsoft RX Tablet. It was a present from someone, and I felt discouraged and had my doubts the moment I got it, but didn't want to show that given the fact it was a present. My experience with it has been problematic however: the adaptor broke in 2(!) days, the $100 keyboard in one week, and I can't download anything but Microsoft apps. The latter means that I have to use the Skype app already present at the tablet since Microsoft doesn't allow me to use/download the regular Skype version onto their tablet, and the Skype app only allows me to sign in using a Microsoft account, however, at the same time it won't allow me to sign in using my Microsoft as mentioned. What a complete mess.)

I don't have sound on Skpe on my HP Pavillion

When I use my Skype to chat with my grandkids I don't have any sound. I have sound on all other programs. Any suggestions?

Ladyrich, welcome to the forum.
If you are using the latest version of Skype (5.3.0.120), you should go into Tools / Options / Audio settings. Check to assure that the correct Microphone and Speakers are selected. I had the same problem when I first started using Skype. The wrong microphone was selected.

Subscription period

Hi all,
It has been brought to my notice that the subscription in skype starts from the moment you purchase the subscription and for the next 30 days starting from that moment onwards. I found it quite ridiculous as I lost several minutes of talktime thinking that it is for a period of 30 days from the day you purchase. It is not mentioned anywhere that it is inclusive of the time of purchase and skype has not informed its subscribers of this valuable information. If the subscription was inclusive of the time of purchase then they should mention that its for 30x24x60=43200 minutes rather than 30 days because as a normal and sensible person I believe that all my monthly bills/subscription is for 30 days, but skype believes otherwise. Such a subscription structure distorts our views on normal subscription for any essential service. If I subscribe my cable TV for a month, it wouldn't go blank at the end of 30 days from the moment I subscribed it or my phone wouldn't die upon me after exactly 30 days from the moment I paid the previous month's bill. But skype did!! Its quite funny when you look at it as skype is not wrong but they are not right as well. As a commercial organisation they are trying to provide the best service to millions of customers but somewhere down the line they are not being responsible enough to inform their valued customers that this is the deal and also being non-sensical about this subscription period and the time frame. I believe that I need a refund of the minutes that I've lost as I wasn't aware of this information and it wasn't put any where when I bought the subscription. The consumers should be made aware of this because if someone buys a subscription at 12.30am someday, they shouldn't assume that they have it for 30 days, but rather, its only till 12.30am after 30 days.

Unexpected loss of connectivity, shutdowns

My Flame is running 2.0.0.0-prerelease, the official OTA version. I use it with only one SIM card in the primary slot (3G).
The problem is unreliable connectivity: 1. Sometimes connection to the SIM is lost, and then I have to reenter the PIN. 2. Sometimes the phone turns off in my pocket. 3. When I turn it back on, then time is off.
Are these problems most likely in hardware or in software? If software related, what can I do?
A hardware issue could be expensive because the phone was delivered from China. In addition to S&H there was a 34 EUR fee on import.
Concerning time: I don't let it be set automatically because then the timezone is wrong, but that's another problem.

Be careful with the adapter - I've broken pins in the SIM connector on a Geeksphone Peak before. I'm not sure if this could happen to other phones as well, but I would recommend being very careful. =)

I suspect that the other issues you mention may also be software related. I would suggest flashing your device to either Base Image v188 or v180.

yes they just **bleep** stoped working with skype 5. and 3.8 versions. they just closed those servers > what **bleep** why did u disabled 3.8 version. how about skypeME option ? how about old computers that doesnt able to install 6.x versions ?

Skype sends SMS message to a wrong contact

This is a weird one. When I select one of my relatives which is save as my Skype mobile phone contact and I send her an SMS, the message is not being delivered to her but rather to a different cell phone No which belongs to her husband who is also one of my Skype phone contacts. I checked their numbers as saved under their profiles and they are both correct. They are both on the same cell phone network, but have very different numbers and they are even not together on the same family plan or similar. So I'm having real problem comprehending why this is happening. When I send her an SMS message using my phone, it goes normally to her phone. But when I do it via Skype it goes to a wrong recipient but he sees my correct phone number displayed one his phone after receiving the message. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this?

Nevermind...I actually dug deeper and found the same thread. I tried to delete this one but couldn't find a way to do it.

My device is a Blackberry Z30. Skype and Viber just to work fine. I had to travel abroad and turn off data services while traveling outside of the US but the applications worked just fine with Wi-Fi. Suddenly they stopped working to make calls. I can still send text messages, but when I try to do a voice or video call (in the case of skype), it only says "failed call" and when I try to call using Viber I get an error message that says the I can not use the application until I complete my GMS call which is ridiculous because I'm not using the phone other than trying to place my call through Viber. The interesting thing is that when I go the permission page in my security settings everything indicates that its on but is gray out and I do not have access to change any setting. The same in both applications. The rest of the applications are accessible to change settings. I already uninstalled skype and reinstalled it and still the same problem. I'm ready to back up everything and wipe out the device to original settings.
